• Windows 1.0 was announced in november 1983,under
the name windows,but it was released on november
20,1985.
• Windows 1.0 is not a complete operating system, rather
it extends MS DOS .The shell of windows 1.0 is a
program as the MS DOS executive.
• Components include in windows 1.0 are calculator,
cardfile, calender , viewer, clock, notepad , reversi
terminal and write .
• Windows 1.0 does not allow overlapping windows .
Windows 2.0 & 2.03
Windows 2.0 was released in December 1987 , and was more
popular than its predecessor . Its features several improvements
to the user interface and memory management .windows 2.03
changed the os from tiled windows to overlapping windows .
• Windows 2.0 was released in two different versions windows/286
and windows/386 uses the virtual 8086 mode of the intel 30386
to multidesk several dos programs and the memory model to
emulate expanded memory .
• In 1988,windows became world’s largest pc software company
based on sales .
Windows 3.0,3.1 &3.2
• Windows 3.0 , released in 1990,improved the
design ,mostly because of memory and loadable
virtual device drivers (VxDs) that allow windows to
share arbitrary devices between multitasked DOS
applications can run in protected mode ,which give
them access to several megabytes of memory
without the obligation to participate in the
software virtual memory scheme.
Windows 3.0,3.1 &3.2
• Windows 3.0 also featured improvements to the user
interface.
• Windows 3.0 is the first microsoft windows version to
achieve broad commercial success ,selling 2 million
copies in 6 months.
• Windows 3.1 made generally available on march 1st
,1992,featured a facelift.
• Windows 3.2 released in 1994,ia an updated versions of
the Chinese version of windows , the update was limited
to this language version.
WINDOWS 9x
Windows 9x is a generic term referring to a series
produced from 1995 to 2000.which are based on
windows 95 kernal and its underlying foundation of
MS DOS . Both of which were updated in
subsequent versions .This include all versions of
windows 95,windows 98,windows ME .
WINDOWS 9x
• After windows 3.11 , microsoft
begin to develop a new
consumer oriented version of the operating system
code named CHICAGO was designed to have
support for 32bit preemptive multitasking like OS/2
and windows NT.
• Microsoft adoptedWindows 95 as the product
name for CHICAGO when it was released on august
1995
•
.Windows 9x
• it was relesed on 25th JUNE 1998 .
It included new hardware drivers and better
supports for the FAT32 . File system which allows
supports for disk partitions larger than 2GB
maximum accepted by wiondows 95.0 .
• In 1999 second version of windows 98.0 was
released ,on interim release whose natable fetures
were the addition of internet connection sharing
and improved wdm audio and modem support.
Windows 9x ME
• In September 2000, Microsoft
introducedWindows ME (Millennium Edition),
which upgradedWindows 98 with enhanced
multimedia and Internet features.
• It also introduced first version of system restore
and the first version of movie maker .
• This edition was criticized by users for its instability
and unreliability. Due to frequent freezes and
crashes , It was known as “worlds 4th wrost tech
product of all time “ and “mistake edition “.

WINDOWS NT
• Windows NT is a family of operating
systems produced by Microsoft, the first version of
which was released in July 1993. It is a processor-
independent, multiprocessing, multi-
user operating system.
• "NT" was formerly expanded to "NewTechnology"
but no longer carries any specific meaning. Starting
with Windows 2000,"NT" was removed from the
product name and is only included in the product
version string

Player, Windows Movie Maker, and enhanced digital photo capabilities.
• With a fresh visual design,Windows XP Professional includes features for business and
advanced home computing, including remote desktop support, an encrypting file
system, and system restore and advanced networking features. Key enhancements for
mobile users include wireless 802.1x networking support,Windows Messenger, and
Remote Assistance.
WINDOWS VISTA
• WindowsVista is released in 2006 with the strongest security system
yet. User Account Control helps prevent potentially harmful software
from making changes to your computer.
• WindowsVista also features enhancements toWindows Media Player as
more and more people come to see their PCs as central locations for
digital media. Here you can watch television, view and send
photographs, and edit videos.
WINDOWS 7
• Windows 7 is released for the wireless world of the
late 2000s. Laptops are outselling desktops, and
it's become common to connect to public wireless
hotspots in coffee shops and private networks in
the home.
• It also marks the debut ofWindowsTouch, which
lets touchscreen users browse the web, flip
through photos, and open files and folders.
WINDOWS 8&8.1
Windows 8 is a reimagined operating system, from the
chipset to the user experience, and introduces a totally
new interface that works smoothly for both touch and
mouse and keyboard.

andWindows 10works to make that collaboration seamless and delightful.
• This is the first time that aWindows upgrade is offered free to customers. Only
one month after launching, 75 million devices are runningWindows 10. Microsoft
hopes to see Windows 10 installed on one billion devices by 2018.
• The operating system delivers an upgradedWindows interface, focusing on the
iconic Start menu and building an intuitive experience from
there. Windows 10 introduces a new Microsoft voice that's more conversational
and approachable than before.
