3. TK: The understanding of Technology and how it works. Things such as
PLN’s, Web 2.0 sites, and such things as virtual learning environments.
This is crucial to TPACK. Being
knowledgeable about such things as
Virtual Learning Environments gives
teachers the tools to create an
accessible learning environment for all
and can better cater to all kinds of
students.
Also knowing what technology
is out there allows teachers to
be able to select the best option
that applies to there specific
teaching needs. For example
using Google docs for a
collaborative project.
Helps students use different
learning theories such as
collectivism (using search
engines).
4. CK: The understanding of the content that is being taught. For
example knowing the history of Greek art for an art class.
This is the meat and potatoes to the lesson plan of a teacher
(what they know and wish to convey) The goal is to take this
knowledge and transfer it to the students in the best way
possible (through TK and PK)
PK: Knowledge or the understanding of methods of teaching.
Understanding of such theories as Connectivism,
Behaviourisim, Cognitivisim, Collectivism etc.
5. It is important as a teacher to fully develop all three main streams of
knowledge (TK,CK,PK) in order to optimize learning opportunities in
the classroom.
From these three types of knowledge
teachers can begin to overlap
understandings (TCK, TPK,PCK)
6. Education 210 was very crucial to my overall understanding
of TPACK. My technological understanding (TK) was lacking
and this class showed me what was possible and how to
make it possible.
Through Web 2.0 sites and apps explored in this class
I took my already accumulated Pedagogical
Knowledge and Content Knowledge and was able to
apply them to such apps as Sketchup. Now I can take
my understanding of architecture (CK) and how I would
normally teach it (PK) and now adapt it to Sketch up
(TK) to help better a child's learning experience.
I can do this thanks to my understanding of TPACK
7. Put PK,CK,TK together and what do you got? TPACK!
Each one of these types of knowledge create TPACK. This
will influence my teaching in how I decide to provide
information and learning opportunity for my students. I have
now expanded my TK and PK. I now know that there are
different type of learning/teaching theories and have now been
given the technological knowledge on how to cater to each.
Hopefully I will create a technological environment that
is catered to each and every student. I really believe
that its not the student that is limited but rather the
environment. Using TPACK will allow me to fix that.
