2. “Boy, did I feel rotten. I felt so damn
lonesome.”
•What does it mean to be lonely?
•What is the difference between being
alone and lonely?
•Do you feel more lonely when you are
alone or with others?
3. Then I started reading this timetable I had in my pocket.
Just to stop lying. Once I get started, I can go on for
hours if I feel like it. No kidding. Hours.
• When is it okay to lie?
• When was a time that you
lied?
• Why did you lie?
• If you had been in
Holden’s position, would
you have lied to Mrs.
Morrow?
5. Homework for next Wednesday

3. Be a spy:
Like Holden in his hotel room, observe a person or couple (without
them knowing that you are observing them). What do you notice?
Write down all your observations. Create a story about them:
Where are they from? What is their past? What are they thinking
about? What are their jobs? Why are they in this place? Where
are they going next? What are their dreams and plans?
