Holes
Similarities and differences.

A presentation by Shannon
Holes
Louis Sachar

Holes is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats
and he is sent to Camp Green Lake as a
punishment. He has to did a hole everyday.
One day he ran away to find refuge on gods
thumb, and he did. When he got back to
camp, his lawyer was there waiting to take
him home.
Similarities
There are lots of similarities between the
book and the film. The first one is everyone
has the same names and no new characters
were introduced. As well the setting was the
same because it was set in Texas. The story
line was the mainly the same too, the shoes
fell on his head in both the movie and the
book, they drank sploosh and the yellow
spotted lizards didn't bite them.
I think they kept these things the same
because they are important and they are
the main parts of the story. If I was writing
the story or making the film, I would have
kept these things the same too.
Differences
There are even more differences in the book and film,
than similarities. The first difference is in the film
Stanley is skinny, but it says in the book that he is not
and in the film Zero is not black where as in the film
he is mixed race.
I think these let the film down a lot.

Evaluation
Book
I liked how the book used really effective
words because it helped me understand
the story more. But, I disliked how Louis
Sachar the scorpions didn't do any harm
to anyone where as all the other animals
did.
Film
I liked how in the film there was actually
more in the flashbacks than in the book
because it helped me understand the whole
story line. I disliked how the film ruined my
visual images of the characters.
Overall I preferred the book
because I could let my
imagination go.
