How Technology Can Be Controlled Vehicles On The Roads
Autonomous technology has been slowly rising up in the market, beginning with automatic stop
brakes to parking assists. The one thing technology researchers are trying to advance on is full–on,
automatic driving with no manual backing. Although this technology is not on the market yet, it will
be in the near future. Google specifically has started their own self–driving project six years ago,
introducing their own line of autonomous vehicles they call Google Blobs. The main reason self–
driving vehicles are in such a high demand to be made available for the public is because they are
claimed to be a much safer alternative to human driving. More than thirty thousand people die each
year in vehicle accidents and ninety percent of all car ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why do we value human error over machine error? It may be because we are able to form emotional
connections with our drivers; you cannot connect with a computer the same way you connect with a
human. Usually, the passengers of a car will already know the driver in some form. The only way
people can trust self–driving cars is if they learn to do so (consumer reports). Google's self–driving
project began six years ago and since then have driven 1.7 million miles with the self–driving
vehicles, and will occasionally be driven by their safety drivers. With over twenty of their vehicles
on the road, out of the eleven minor accidents that the vehicles have been involved in, none were
caused by the self–driving car. "Even when our software and sensors can detect a sticky situation
and take action earlier and faster than an alert human driver, sometimes we will not be able to
overcome the realities of speed and distance; sometimes we will get hit just waiting for a light to
change. And that is important context for communities with self–driving cars on their streets;
although we wish we could avoid all accidents, some will be unavoidable." Accidents will still occur
when autonomous and manual drivers share the road. It is only a matter of time before autonomous
vehicles are the only thing on the road, and till then will accidents be a rare cause. Since self–driving
vehicles were created to exist in

The Day Of Canada With My Brother
Today is the day. I am going to Canada with my brother, Justin. We have packed for two weeks
worth of things, and we are very excited to go.
"Justin!" I called out.
"We are going to be late!" I exclaimed.
"Just a minute, I am finishing up on packing!" He exclaimed. I walked downstairs to go see if there
was anything I could help with. I walked into Justin's room and found him playing his Xbox.
"I thought you said you were packing..." I said suspiciously.
"I was..." He started to explain. "Let 's just go now!" I said. I pulled his arm, got his stuff, and then
started to head out to the car.
"Mom! Are you ready to drop us off?" I asked. "Yes! Are you sure you want to go to Canada all by
yourself? It will be you, and your thirteen–year–old twin brother. And of course, you will be staying
with some of your friends." My mom said.
"We will be fine." Justin said.
It was two hours later. Justin and I were just sitting at the airport with the airport lady that was
looking after us. Then they called our flight. We got on the plane. Ten minutes later and we were in
the sky. Everything was so small from above. Then, I heard a loud clanging sound. "Are you okay?"
Justin asked.
"I'm fine... but what is that loud sound?" I asked.
"I think he will know the answer. I thought. He wants to be a pilot when he grows up." I thought. "I
think that is the sound of the airplane breaking down." He said. After a couple seconds of him
thinking that over, he said,
"Oh no... THE PLANE IS

The Day Of The Summer Tennis Team
It was the day that I tried out for the summer tennis team. I was so excited because my mom would
be coming to tryouts. It is going to be clear skies from now on. "Maybe this can be something that
my mother and I can bond over. Maybe she will see that I am important like my baby brother,
Quinn. I hope she is not mad at me from the times I talked back to her," I whispered in a very quiet
tone. The small bleachers were speckled with people like chocolate chips on a cookie. Then, tryouts
started. My mom had dropped me off and drove around a block to change my brother's diaper.
Then the coach shouted my name, "Ally, you're up." My heart did a mini flip as the words echoed
through my ears.
"But my mom is not here," I squeaked, in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I just wanted to feel important, why was this so hard. I didn 't want to be mad at my mom, and my
mom to pay attention to me. This same thing always happens in books. The only child gets a sibling
and they don't feel important. I thought if she saw me at tryouts, and saw how good I was at tennis,
that she would care about me more. That did not work. I thought some more about it. Not long after,
my dad showed up to drive me home.
"Let's go home," my dad told me with no explanation and I came with him, no question asked. Split

I was standing there, in my new bathing suite and I was coming in the house from a nice long swim.
I was waiting by the back door on stone tile to go through the garage, through the front door. My
mother's words went over and over in my head, like a beating drum. "Wait until I come back to walk
across the garage floor." The grass shook in the breeze, not able to walk forward away like I seemed
to be. My mom had not come back and I was pacing the ground. Little drops of water hit the ground
from my swim suit like rain dripping on sidewalks. Then it hit me at full power. My mom was
probably catering to my little brother again. I know he was only three months old but, I am
important too, right. I stopped myself because I was doubting that I was important. I knew then what
I need to do. I needed to put all my pride into me and cross the floor, but was stopping

Personal Narrative : My Life And Life
Boom! Boom! Boom! It was the fourth of July as I sit in my back yard looking at the fireworks, my
brothers and sister all outside with me were having fun. It had me thinking about my life and
thinking why I couldn't be happy and why my parents couldn't just be there for me when I needed
them the most...things were about to get very bad and hard for me. I can just feel my life is about to
go through a downfall and I just wonder will I be able to get through it. To being with, the first time
is when I was only 14 years old I had gone to my friend's house to hangout. He calls a few other
people since his parents were out. We decide to have a party my friends dad had a liquor cabinet
were we grabbed a couple bottles for everyone. I decided to take a couple shots and after a couple
minutes I felt a major headache. He goes to his room and comes back and hands me 2 tiny white
pills and says take them, so I did. Not even 2 minutes go by and I get a hit of extreme dizziness and
I get very drowsy. He told me he gave me Xanax's; I end up fallen asleep and not wakening up until
3 in the morning. I check my phone to see if anyone called, and I see I have 10 missed calls from my
mom. I check and see that she left a voice messages and see a couple of text messages as well. I hear
the voice messages first and I get chills down my spine with the first few messages of threats and
yelling and the last couple was of her crying and begging for me to be alive and okay. I get my shoes

Man on Wire Essay examples
September 11, 2012
Philippe Petit: Sane Wire Walker What do you think when you imagine a man walking on a wire
higher than 10 stories high? A French wire walker named Philippe Petit walked over many
structures from Notre Dame to Sydney, Australia, to New York. Through the things he has done,
people may think he is crazy. However, Petit and I think that there is nothing crazy about what he
has done. I believe the people/society thinks he is crazy. They see this man up hundreds of feet
walking across a wire over famous architectures. Notre Dame, he walked over the cathedral between
the two bell towers. Sydney, Australia, he walked the wire across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and
slowed traffic as people watched the magnificent show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You don't learn things like this over night, it hard work and dedication. The people even had him
evaluated to see if he was a lunatic, but simply found that all his agnostics proved he was sane. Like
Steve Irwin, do you think he is crazy? Steve Irwin wrestles alligators, crocodiles, snakes, and other
wild animals. He prepared for his kind of work, schooling, learning how to read animals, what they
tend to do when aggravated. Yes, he went after dangerous animals but he knew what he was doing,
just like Petit. It was a dangerous thing to be doing, but he was prepared to do so. So no, Philippe
Petit isn't crazy, just well managed, well trained, and well prepared for what he has done. Petit
passed an evaluation to test if there was something wrong with him. Also, because what he does is
dangerous doesn't mean he isn't right in the head. Just look at Steve Irwin and think twice before
judging. He brought entertainment to the people, inspiration that anything is possible. Petit is just
another human being that chased a dream, and accomplished his goal.

The Man Sat On The Bus
And that was it. Looking into the mirror the question was there. Was I a man? How could I be? I
never had a dad to teach me those categorically masculine things. I never went hunting. I never
worked on a car. I never really enjoyed sports. By no definition of the standard of manhood did I
measure, and I didn't have a father there to explain to me why I wasn't.
Flashes of punching the mirror, shattering the image there, were common. What better way to lash
out at something than to lash out at yourself. But what good would it do? It'd upset your mom,
bother your dad, and hurt your hand to boot. And it would break a promise.
The young man sat on the bus, reading a book in order to block out those around him. Some were

All the work at school was menial and dull, worksheets after worksheets of mindless rinse and
repeat lessons. Read the chapter, answer the questions, see you tomorrow. Maybe in English they'd
have something a little more challenging, but not by much. Even learning a foreign language could
be distilled to worksheets and textbooks.
The idea appealed to him and his mother knew it. She knew it from her own childhood. She had
skipped school often and she could see the signs. Slipping grades, a daily battle with every step from
waking up to doing any work. He was lashing out at her, his sister, and anyone who seemed to take a
wrong step in front of him.
So they made a deal. A promise to go to school, to do the work, and to try to have better days to
make life easier and a new video game system would be the reward.
Better days though? When kids shoved you into lockers, picked on you for your hair or clothes, no
matter how many times you wore something different, picked on you because you liked video
games and cartoons. How could a young man fathom that in two decades it would be the opposite,
that kids would get picked on for not playing video games and that his favorite cartoons would
become Hollywood summer blockbusters that everyone talked about like they knew about them
back in those halls.

Child Vehicular Heat Stroke Deaths
According to the article "Child Vehicular Stroke Fact Sheet" from KidsAndCars.org, "The average
number of U.S. child vehicular heat stroke deaths is 37 per year." That is one death of a child every
nine days. Although, some individuals may or may not have unintentionally left their children in the
car. A majority of parents that left their child in the vehicle unknowingly did it. However, there is a
small percentage of parents that knowingly left their child unattended in the vehicle. In some cases,
the child even entered the vehicle on their own without the parent or caregiver noticing in time.
Statistics of child vehicular heat stroke deaths reveal that 54.25% of parents unknowingly left their
child in the vehicle, 11.58% knowingly left their child in the vehicle, and 33.58% of the children
entered the vehicle by themselves without parents or caregivers noticing in a reasonable amount of
time (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke). Some individuals, usually non–parents, believe that it is
completely absurd to forget a child is in the vehicle. However, the most dangerous mistake a parent
or caregiver can make is to think leaving a child alone in a vehicle could never happen to them or
their family (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke). A heat stroke can be extremely lethal to young children if
it is not recognized and treated in time. What is a Heat Stroke? A heat stroke is when an individual's
body temperature ascends too high and tries to perform the task of cooling off. The body's way

An Analysis Of Kate Greene 's ' The Night '
It was 4:00 p.m. I was outside in front of my house talking to my best friend , Kate Greene. Before
she left, Kate yelled "Izz I'm still sorry about Euro(the dog I had before Lulu)" and left. At this point
I didn't know what to do, but, it wasn't her fault, she didn't know that anything I heard related to
Euro made me feel as though I should cry. Also the fact that she called me "izz" and not "izzy"
(short for my full name Elizabeth Adams), the way she usually does, caught me a bit off guard. This
caused me to feel that a long walk with my new dog Lulu would help me to relax. Later in the
evening I left my house with Lulu attached to the leash that belonged once to Euro, now without his
bright green collar that went missing along with him. It was getting dark. A small amount of time
passed before, the only light I had was the one shining from my phone. We walked for a while and
the wind started picking up and swept by every second. My phone had no battery left, causing it to
turn off and I could barely see. At first I didn't really assume anything good nor bad would happen,
it was dark outside and It just got a bit windy. Those were my thoughts, yes, that Is until I noticed it.
The bright green light shined from a distance and my first reaction was to run. I dropped Lulu's
leash and ran towards the light. It was the next day when I woke up lying in the middle of nowhere.
Several questions ran through my head all at once that I had no answer to. "What time is it?", "how

Someone's Forgotten Memories
Forgotten Memories
It was Abdelhamid Elhelw's birthday. He woke up on this humid August morning, surprised by a
bird song echoing in the garden outside. The swelling sun was his eyes.
"It's my birthday!" he remembered as if this was something someone could forget. "Seventy–nine
today," he pondered, wondering where the time had gone. He painfully climbed off his old shabby
mattress and stood by his bed–room window in white–blue striped pajamas. Abdelhamid just stared
at the garden, thinking that there were so many things that had to be done. He looked around and
thought to himself, "later maybe, much, much later." These days everything just seemed a little too
difficult. Glancing at his beautiful rose garden and watching how the roses had woken up along with
the start of the new day, he contemplated again, "It's my birthday today." The neighbor's dog was
barking loudly and under the little shattered birdhouse, there was tiny little field mouse just nibbling
on some of yesterday's toast. The heat was unbearable, even though the sun had barely showed her
rays as she was waking up in the early morning, but that was how the month of August had always
been, sticky, hot and humid.
Abdelhamid El Helw, seventy–nine years old, was sitting in his kitchen. In silence, alone and lonely.
The house seemed huge and hollow and the roof laid heavily on the walls. Abdelhamid's wrinkled
and thick–veined hands brushed off some bread crumbs off the kitchen table. He waited and listen to

My Challenging Week
It has been customary for me to begin these entries with words of how interesting it has been, and
unfortunately, nothing has changed. I have had a very challenging and interesting week. It started off
with trivial car issues. My car broke down and I have been renting a car since last Saturday. Sunday
the Men's Choir at the Church celebrated their 18th Anniversary. I was asked by one of the members
if I could stay until the program. I had already planned to go home, take a nap, and then return, but
when he asked I felt compelled to stay. I stayed at the Church form 9:00 – 7:00 pm. They had over
12 guest choirs to come and each choir sang two selections. I thought I would take advantage of this
opportunity to mingle with the people and Mrs. Walls was one of the first I encountered. As she sat
down next to me I could tell immediately by her star glasses and wrap on her head that she was
flamboyant outwardly as well as inwardly. I told her I liked her glasses and how unique they were
and she responded, "I know, if anyone else wore these they would look stupid. They only look good
on me." I smiled trying to contain my laughter. She then went on to talk and throughout the course
of the conversation, I heard many words of anger, frustration, and hurt projected towards the
members of the church. I looked at this as the perfect opportunity inject myself as preacher/teacher.

My scuffed up converse kicked up the clay–like dust settling on the ground. The tiny pink stars on

rundown train tracks that cut across town. They acted like tightrope and us the acrobats. It was

"Well, I'm working up in Beaverton and the commute is a pain in the ass to do everyday. We have
nothing tying us here anymore. I think we could both use a fresh start." His eyes were serious, I
knew he meant every word he was saying. I sat in silence for a moment and took a deep breath. This
was my home, did I really want to leave it? Despite hating the place it still meant a lot to me. I found
comfort in it's small town ways. The familiarity of it made me feel safe. I could navigate up and
down the streets blindfolded I bet. But I knew in my heart that it was time to go. I looked up at my
dad and he was watching me. "What are you thinking about?" "I think it might be a good idea." The
words came out of my mouth before I had much of an idea of what I was going to

Personality Profile : Lamont Thomas

Personality Profile
Lamont Thomas: The Running Man Lamont Thomas had only been running for a couple of weeks
when people started calling him "The Running Man". He runs every day logging 84 miles a week,
which is a lot, but when considering dedicated daily runners this is nothing exceptional. When he
runs, Lamont attracts a lot of attention. His friends joke this because "He's running so fast it looks
like he stole something." But it isn't Lamont's speed that sets him apart from the other runners
around town. Rather it's his truly inspirational spirit, positive attitude for life, and taking on any
challenges it might throw at you.

When he was ten, he had metal rods put in his legs and spent the next year and a half in a body cast.
Eventually Lamont could go back to school but relied on a walker and as if being constrained to a
walker wasn't bad enough, he faced adversity in the form of being bullied by his fellow classmates.
"They called me names like 'legs' or 'cripple'. All these names got me so mad that I said something
to them and it must have offended them really bad to the point they took my walker and pushed me
down the stairs."
It was at this time Lamont decided it was time for the walker to go, but the doctors didn't agree with
him.
"The doctors I went to told me I would never walk again and I would have the brain mentality of a
third grader for the rest of my life. They told me all this stuff that isn't true."
It was in this moment Lamont had made up his mind.
He said "I didn't care what the doctors had to say anymore. These legs weren't going to get any

and pout and be upset. Sitting in your room curled in a little ball and be that person the doctors said
you were going to be or you can be so much greater, to the point where what they have to say
doesn't matter. It doesn't even collide with what you want or what you're becoming. Instead of me
becoming this mad angry upset person doing nothing about it, show them." In recounting his
childhood Lamont's motivational pull in life

There she was. The girl I had fallen in love with two years ago. She was covered in blue and purple
bruise, she had dried blood in her long wavy brown hair. Her right ankle was at a wired angle and
looked painfully swollen. This was my entire fault, if only I had kept myself away from her she
wouldn't be in this awful state she is in today. Did something bad happen to her while I left her to
walk? Was I to blame? "What is going on with her? Is she going to be okay?" I nervously ask the

Why Is Exercise A Exercise Program?
You can hardly turn on the TV, radio, or computer without hearing or reading a report about the
many benefits of exercise. Research has shown that moving our bodies makes them healthier and
wards off diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer's. Yet with all of the scientific
data as proof, why is it still so hard to commit to an exercise program?
Many of us have the best of intentions. We buy workout clothes and sneakers, join the local gym,
and even get ourselves up early to take a spinning class or two. But then, after a few weeks, we once
again lose our motivation, break our resolutions, and fall back into our old habits.
We need only look to our early ancestors to understand why modern man may have an aversion to
exercise. Early man moved in order to stay alive. We had to wander sometimes for miles just to find
food, and run like the wind to escape becoming food to something big and ferocious. Everyday life
was a full–on workout filled with aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Back then, food was a precious
resource and we conserved our energy as much as possible to save it for real threats and
emergencies.
Our current lives are vastly different. We can get food 24 hours a day and, unless we happen to get
very unlucky during a camping trip, are rarely chased by bears or other wild animals. Our hardwired
instincts tell us there's not much reason to expend any energy – AKA – workout like a fiend.
But walking is something our ancestors did, and did a lot of.

United States Armed Forces Are Only For The Rough And Tough
The United States Armed Forces are only for the rough and tough. I learned about the military
through commercials on television, my family members who veterans, and recruiters walking are
thought my neighborhood and at school when I was a child. "Join the most powerful military in the
world," said a military poster I had seen walking home from work one day and the "Be All That You
Can Be" Army commercials played while I was watching television. I believed that if I was rough
and tough enough to join the military then I could do anything I put my mind to. It became a
challenge and I decided to take on the challenge.
I recall the very day I decided to join the military. As I sat in keyboard class, the teacher turn on the
television. The news was on with a live broadcast of the Twin towers located in New York. Smoke
was coming from one of the towers. Seeing this major event happen caused everyone in my class to
talk. Some of my classmates started screaming and crying when the plane hit the other tower. School
was released early because of the amount of students who had relatives that worked in the twin
towers. Seeing all of my classmates and the other kids at my school crying caused something inside
me to want to make a difference and fight for my country. Without doing any research of my own
about the different branches of the military, I chose to join the Army. On the way home, I went to the
nearest recruiting office and that became the beginning of my military career.

Bailey And Bailey Never Called Me

why. He also decided to enroll at one of the four high schools in town. I asked him to enroll at mine.
I found out more and more stuff about Ray: He was seventeen. He has two brothers, both older than
him, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I never slept with him. I was never in his bed again. Ray was
over at my house a couple times, to watch movies or just to hang out. Things were good. Until a

parking lot, with him leaning up against his car, and me in front of him. We were just talking, and
maybe kissing every now and then. Then I heard a car drive by. I didn't care about it, because cars
were going in and out of the parking lot. I didn't even notice his smell. It had been so strong, the first
night I met him, but now it was... masked. I had been so close to Ray, all I could smell was him. Ray
was hugging me when I heard my name. "Rachel?" I turned around. It was Bailey. "Bailey?" I said.
"Yeah." he said. "Who's this?" Before Ray could say anything I said, "This is Ray." "Who are you?"
Ray asked Bailey. "Wait. Are you the guy who hurt Rachel?" "Hurt Rachel? I didn't do anything to

which I watched because of Adam Kempenaar's continuous praise, but I don't love it enough to
merit that second viewing. On the contrary, the first time I watched it was at 11 p.m. and I had been
up since 4:30 that morning. So my mental faculties weren't at their peak, and I began to doze off
even though I liked the documentary. So I watched it again the next day, at a better time and with
more sleep, to help me clarify why I think this is a very good but not great film.
"Man on Wire," James Marsh's 2008 documentary, chronicles the story of Philippe Petit, an
eccentric French tightrope walker who dreamed of performing on a wire between the Twin Towers.

The walk is gratifying and somewhat beautiful and moving, but you don't quite know why. Maybe
it's because it's fun to see Petit, in photographs, finally realize his dream. Maybe it's the payoff of
seeing the "heist" accomplished. Maybe it's the poignancy of seeing someone with such joy atop
what became a symbol for tragedy and loss on 9/11. Regardless of the reason, you certainly feel a
swell of emotion when you see the images of Petit on the wire.
With all that being said, I do think a few things hold "Man on Wire" back from becoming a truly
great movie. One of those is that the lines between the recreations and archival footage that Marsh
uses is often blurred. That bothered me for some reason, possibly because I'd like to know which
one is the "truth."
I eventually thought, however, that I don't think documentaries can truly show us objective reality,
so that shouldn't matter. I also thought it didn't matter what was real footage and reconstructions
because regardless the talent displayed in these segments actually happened and is impressive.
Despite these conclusions, I still found myself pulled out of the movie when I couldn't deduce if the
images onscreen were archival footage or

Book Report On The Book ' I Crazy '
If you 'd like to connect with an entire community of writers, see the photo accompanying this
column, and, possibly, win a paperback book, you 'll want to read this column on my blog. I have a
neighbour who often drove her three kids to school. I'm too polite to have told her off for this, but
they lived a 10–minute walk from both grade school and high school. What was she thinking? This
kind of attitude – as well as the one that sees city officials failing to put sidewalks on all of their
streets – makes me crazy.
Walking is one of the best things we can do. This advice is particularly true for writers. Why?
Because in order to write, we need to think, first. And thinking at our desks – instead of out in fresh
air, while we're moving our bodies – is almost always a spectacularly bad idea.
When we sit, our brains become leaden. But when we walk, our hearts pump faster and our brains
and other organs get more blood and oxygen. Scientists have shown this helps our memories work
better and improves our attention.
The gentle exercise of walking also leads to new connections between brain cells, holding at bay the
usual decline of brain tissue that comes with age. Even as my hair turns grey, I'm glad to know that I
don't have to listen to contemporary music to keep my brain younger.
Furthermore, walking also has a positive impact on creativity. In 2014, researchers from Stanford
published a set of studies designed to measure the way walking changes creativity. When did

The Beginning Of Fall
In the beginning of fall, which was also the beginning of school, there leaves falling outside in all
different colors with hints of beauty inside them and there I was sleeping in high school, social
studies class in the way way back. As the bell rang I started to feel a person grabbing a book from
under my hand and at a flick of a light I woke up. There it was, across the room with Austin. My
book. I came down from the stairs and asked nicely, ''can I have my book?'' '' Come and get it'' he
replied.
I went over there to try to get it. Now if you ask me, I should have just tackled him because the
teacher wasn 't there. But if I had done that I could get in trouble, if the teacher walked in.
Therefore, I was smart and waited and waited. Little did he know that the change of time passed and
the door started to creak open. The professor came in. He looked at me and then Austin. He saw the
book high in Austin 's hand and knew what my past was of being a victim of bullies. ''Austin, can
you please give Boo the book? Or you will go down to the office.'' the professor said. There I sat
looking at the professor with a stare of a thank you. I then rose up from my seat and walked towards
Austin and he gave the book to me. Because of this, the day flew by like a pin dropping on the
ground and I soon later arrived at my house and while taking out my homework I realized football
practice was at 4:30 pm. I looked at the clock and it was 4. I needed to get that running back spot

Man On Wire, By James Marsh
Man on wire which was set in 1947 directed by James Marsh about a french high wire artist Philippe
Petit who is fascinated by New Yorks trade Centre where he has strung a six metre tight rope
between the twin tires and walked across it without any fear. The documentary is about Petit 's
daring attempt, the aftermath and about his friends and the people who helped him achieve his life
goals. Some consider it "the artistic crime of the century" The director has used many techniques to
captivate audiences making us feel like we are apart of this incredible story. Techniques such as
Interviews and archival footage.
One of the most widely used documentary techniques is interviews. Interviews reflect opinions from
different viewpoints creating an almost 3 dimensional story. Its helps the audience feel more
engaged as it is coming from a person 's point of view who was involved in the events making it feel
more realistic. The audience can be assured that the story is not made up. Interviews give a sense of
realism. Man on wire is a good example of the interview style being used to reflect feelings of the
time Petit was on his way to making his dream come a reality. The emotions at some point were
exaggerating maybe because he is a performer. But this made us as viewers feel apart of the film
being able to sympathize with the characters and storyline. Marsh uses a technique where we see the
subject talking on screen but we do not hear the interviewer talking or asking questions.

When I set out for my walk today, I had several very specific goals in mind. I wanted to walk for
about an hour, cover about 4 miles, and get some inspiration along with fresh air. Based on my
goals, I created a plan. I would drive to a large wooded "reservation" near my home. I plotted the
path I would take. I would start by walking through the woods toward a paved path, do the loop on
that path, and finally circle back along the road to my car.
I parked my car and headed to the path that would take me through the wooded area. It 's right next
to a dog park. There were five people walking with their dogs along the path that I was about to turn
onto. I don 't have a dog and frankly, didn 't want the company. How was it that, before I even
began, my plan wasn 't working out right?
Entrepreneurs and goal setting
The reason I 'm sharing this story is because I see this happening every day to the entrepreneurs I
speak with. Goals are set, plans are made, and then something goes wrong. They don 't

Performers: Circus Skills and High Wire Essay
Circus performers are people of great courage. They have to make a living out of entertaining people
that pay good money to watch them and want to get their money's worth. They have a lot of pressure
from that, as well as peer pressure from their fellow performers. Not only do they have pressure
from that, they have to worry about the very acts being preformed from playing with swords and fire
to hanging from a wire hundreds of feet in the air. If their not focused on what they are doing, they
can be killed in a instant.
One of the popular acts they do is called sword swallowing. This is a very dangerous stunt were they
put a razor sharp sword down their throat like its nothing. This is an ancient skill in which the
performer passes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being trained and taking every precaution, there still a threat of someone getting hurt, from the
performer to someone in the audience.
The all time favorite, most popular, and the one that poses the most danger is the high wire. High
wire is the same as tight wire but at much greater height. Although there is no official height when
tight wire becomes high wire, generally a wire over twenty feet high will be regarded as high wire
act. Traditionally, the difference is in style of performance. Usually they will only use a pole to help
balance them as they walk across, but have been known to also use a bike or unicycle too. The
reason why this is the crowds favorite is because it takes a great deal of skill, fearlessness, and just
the high risk of death it portrays. Many of people have in fact died doing this, and died doing what
they loved to do.
The amount of risk that the circus performers have to deal with on a daily basis is flat out
remarkable. They look a death and danger and smile like its nothing to them. Only a special group
of people to have enough courage, or as some might say "stupidity" to do this line of work and love
it. But the greatest thing of all about them is that they don't care how dangerous something is, if they
think they can do it, they will do what ever it takes to accomplish it. We can all learn from that kind

Perspective Of A Fallen Star
Perspective of a fallen star I stood on my corner, the cold air brushing my exposed legs and
stomach. I swung around a stop sign, my hand holding the cold metal. I then walked back to my
position beside the traffic light. The cars drove by, slowing down slightly but not coming to a full
stop. I smiled at each one as if they were potential clients. A last a car came to a halt beside the
corner and I approached the window, leaning over. As I did this, I looked back at upon my life...
What had gone wrong? What had taken me to this point in my life? I didn't have much time to think
before the man got a closer look at my drug abused face. He didn't even give me time to push off
from the car, he just drove away sending me spinning from the car. After the incident with the man
driving off, it made me reflect further on my life... I thought about when I used to be a star, a
household name for god sake! I loved that time in my life, the fans, the money, the fame, my very
own tv show, it was such a rush. But I had to mess it all up, I had to ruin it. It only took one mistake
and I was out of the TV business. Turns out the big networks don't like drug abusing teenagers for
their shows. Who would have thought... After a few hours of hopeless pacing and flaunting, a
familiar car slowed down beside the sidewalk I was on. A tall man wearing a black hoodie emerged
from the car and wrapped his hand around my throat. As I struggled for breath I looked up to the

supposed to have a girls day out. So, I call her. "Hey are you ready to go to the mall?" I ask trying to
sound like I was up for hours. "Ya I've been waiting for you to call me!" She said. "I'll be there in

Why did it take so long for you to call me? I ran down stairs my mom was at the table with a blanket

Debra. Love you bye." I said happily. "Okay love you too and call me when you 're on your way
home okay." She said tiredly.
"Okay" I said in a rush. Than slammed the door behind me.

look up and she was just walking out. She was wearing a turquoise blouse and black skinny jeans,
clean long straight brunette hair, she is also skinny and tiny like a foot shorter than me.
"Hey girl. You excited to go to the mall?" She said in a high pitched voice.

Yesterday, I was granted the opportunity, as a New York Film, Academy "alumni", to attend a Q&A
given by producer, Jack Rapke, preceded by a screening of his newest film, "The Walk" which is
based on a true story. The movie stars Joseph Gordon–Levitt (whom Rapke called "Joe") who plays
French tightrope walker Phillippe Petit who in 1974, strung a rope connecting the buildings of the
world trade center then tightrope walked across it. The movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis (who
Rapke called "Bob"), starred Joseph Gordon–Levitt, who, much to my surprise, did all of his own
stunts and speaks fluent French. His acting performance paired with the fact that he had to switch
off speaking French and speaking English with a French accent while also balancing tediously on a

Personal Narrative : The Great Parnassus Essay
I bet at least once in everyone's life their parents have told them not to talk to strangers, or not to
trust people you don't know. I followed these rules very well, except for last spring break when I

probably because I was with some of my best friends that I knew for over four years, so I was
comfortable. I went down there with a group of about thirty people and stayed at a resort called the
Great Parnassus. This resort looked like a huge skyscraper with a hollowed out inside, which was
where all the restaurants and amenities were. The back side of the resort was connected to the beach
where one could swim or relax by the ocean. In between the beach and the back of the resort were a
couple of swimming pools, bars, and a buffet. It was an average resort, but what really made it
special was the people. For some unknown reason, we blindly trusted the local Mexicans and some
of the other tourists we met at the resort which ended up doing us more bad than good. Ever since
that trip I haven't been able to trust a stranger in another country. On the first night, we went out to
the karaoke bar where we met the first group of interesting people on our trip. The bar was relatively
small, probably a little smaller than the size of a tennis court with a couple pool tables and dining
tables on one side, a dance floor on the other, and the bar ran along the back wall. We met a couple

The Walking Revolution ( 2013 ) : A Documentary On Walking...
"All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking." This quote is from Friedrich Nietzsche, a
German philosopher who mused on the Apollonian and Dionysian literary concept. These concepts
deliberate the influence logic and emotion have on thought, particularly the conflict between the
two, as well as individuation versus connection to the world. Walking is like a physical
manifestation of the Dionysian concept, as not only does it physically connect one to the natural
world, but also lends itself to creative thinking. While some assume walking is only beneficial to the
physical well–being of a person, others claim it also stimulates creative thoughts and ideas.
The Walking Revolution (2013) is a documentary on walking habits, the health benefits of walking
and how technology has changed the way in which people approach exercise. Several doctors and
researchers in the medical industry participated in the documentary and there opinions on walking
and exercise at large give a clear and succinct idea of the benefits. When looking at the history of
walking Sheila Franklin, a member of the National Condition for Promoting Physical Activity, states
that in the 60s, "ninety percent of students who lived within a mile or less from school got there on
their own power." She then goes on to state that today it has dropped to thirty one percent. This was
most likely to do with Scott Dissel, who is part of the Trust for Public Land, calls the

the title, 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead. 'What the hell was this? I read a few pages and it spoke
about life, how to die, and all this other that made no sense. I was furious Alex would fall for this
junk, but what made me more furious is the CRS tags in the elevator 's walls. Angrily, I took a fat

"Loki" I called, "Come on, time for a walk." That was all it took, when I was only halfway through
the sentence my dog came charging over, almost knocking me down. I laughed. "We'll go outside in
a minute, just hold on." I said as I attempted to put a leash on the excited husky. I'd had a long day at
school, and I was ready to take a break. 'A walk outside would be pretty nice.' I thought.
It was the beginning of winter and there was already a foot of snow outside covering the houses and
cars in the neighborhood. It was lightly snowing outside when Loki and I started our walk. I looked
down at him and could see the excitement in his eyes. 'I guess it wouldn't hurt to let him off leash for
a little while' I thought. Loki ran down the street and back, kicking snow up into the air as he
jumped through the frosty air. I started walking behind Loki, too tired to keep up, as he bounded
through the snow, kicking it up into the air and running through it again as it fell to the ground. As I
watched him play in the snow I couldn't help but smile, 'he's such a little dork'.
I looked away for a moment, admiring the snow in the trees. I whipped around as I heard Loki dash
through the snow heading straight into the woods.
"Loki, come back!" I yelled. Nothing happened. He didn't even slow down; It was as if he couldn't
even hear me. I chased after him as fast as it was possible in the snow. Loki was already out of

Crunch. Heidi looked up, glancing from side to side. Crunch. She had thought she was alone.
Crunch. Her heart beat faster and her hand clenched the heart on her necklace. Crunch. She
quickened her pace as she heard footsteps coming from behind her. Her hand started to cramp up
from holding the necklace so hard. Crunch. Heidi turned slowly. A dark figure stood about ten feet
away from her. She panicked as she heard the footsteps behind her getting quicker. "Who's there?"
she said, still walking.
The figure was silent. Only the sounds of heavy breathing came from its mouth. "What do you
want?" The breathing got louder as the figure moved closer.
Heidi let go of her necklace, and turned her head one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a shaky hand, she went to grab for the necklace but before she reached it, everything went
black.
Her head throbbing with pain, Heidi regained her consciousness, startled. She was in the back of a
van, speeding down a bumpy road. They took a sharp turn and Heidi flew against the side of the car.
She started to cry, and curled up on the floor, wishing this was all a dream.
Heidi was woken up by the van making a sudden jolt, throwing her against the car once again. It
was pitch black and Heidi couldn't see at all. She heard movement and realized she wasn't alone.
"H–Hello?" she said, her voice shaking with fear.
The man grabbed her hand, wrapping it around a plastic bottle. "Drink. It's water." The voice was
deep and slow.
Thirsty and delirious, Heidi unscrewed the cap and downed the contents of the bottle. A weird
feeling in her stomach immediately followed, and her vision started to fade. "Did you just poison
me?" Heidi threw the bottle and grabbed the wall of the van, bracing herself.
"Sleep tight." the man said.
Heidi woke up hours later to a huge slap in the face. Her face stinging, she sat up and saw the man
in front of her.
"Can I help you?" she mumbled.
"We're leaving," the man put a black sack over her head and threw her out of the car. Heidi's knees
buckled from under her. She was still weak from the poison. "Walk!" the man shouted.
Heidi tried hard, putting one foot in front of the other,

Critically Assess Literature Surrounding Vehicle Speed...
3.1 Introduction
This chapter critically assess literature surrounding vehicle speed reduction techniques and shared
spaces. Developing a clear understanding of background literature provides a strong theoretical
foundation, or perspective to conduct an effective investigation with regard to how vehicle speed
and presence are crucial aspects as to whether a shared space is successful or not. Therefore, this
chapter will begin with an overview of the history and development of shared spaces followed by
vehicle speed in shared space, risk homeostasis theory, speed reduction techniques, horizontal traffic
deflections techniques, and entrances and surfaces.
3.2 The History & Development of Shared Spaces
Ben Hamilton–Baille, an architect in the United Kingdom coined the term shared space however,
the original design and concept is accredited to Hans Monderman, a Dutch traffic engineer who
invented the term "Woonerf" in Nertherlands, 1970 (Ben–Joseph, 1995). However, there are many
examples today of shared spaces throughout Australasia, Europe, the UK and the United States.
Historic evidence states that streets has been a place of interaction, movement and activity. When
cars were firstly introduced the road corridors were still a place to walk, move, and play. However,
in the mid twenty century motor vehicles become more popular, where two concepts came to
dominate road design:
The most key role of a road is to accommodate efficient movement and fast journey for vehicles.

How Technology Can Be Controlled Vehicles On The Roads

  • 1. How Technology Can Be Controlled Vehicles On The Roads Autonomous technology has been slowly rising up in the market, beginning with automatic stop brakes to parking assists. The one thing technology researchers are trying to advance on is full–on, automatic driving with no manual backing. Although this technology is not on the market yet, it will be in the near future. Google specifically has started their own self–driving project six years ago, introducing their own line of autonomous vehicles they call Google Blobs. The main reason self– driving vehicles are in such a high demand to be made available for the public is because they are claimed to be a much safer alternative to human driving. More than thirty thousand people die each year in vehicle accidents and ninety percent of all car ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why do we value human error over machine error? It may be because we are able to form emotional connections with our drivers; you cannot connect with a computer the same way you connect with a human. Usually, the passengers of a car will already know the driver in some form. The only way people can trust self–driving cars is if they learn to do so (consumer reports). Google's self–driving project began six years ago and since then have driven 1.7 million miles with the self–driving vehicles, and will occasionally be driven by their safety drivers. With over twenty of their vehicles on the road, out of the eleven minor accidents that the vehicles have been involved in, none were caused by the self–driving car. "Even when our software and sensors can detect a sticky situation and take action earlier and faster than an alert human driver, sometimes we will not be able to overcome the realities of speed and distance; sometimes we will get hit just waiting for a light to change. And that is important context for communities with self–driving cars on their streets; although we wish we could avoid all accidents, some will be unavoidable." Accidents will still occur when autonomous and manual drivers share the road. It is only a matter of time before autonomous vehicles are the only thing on the road, and till then will accidents be a rare cause. Since self–driving vehicles were created to exist in ... I called out. "We are going to be late!" I exclaimed. "Just a minute, I am finishing up on packing!" He exclaimed. I walked downstairs to go see if there was anything I could help with. I walked into Justin's room and found him playing his Xbox. "I thought you said you were packing..." I said suspiciously. "I was..." He started to explain. "Let 's just go now!" I said. I pulled his arm, got his stuff, and then started to head out to the car. "Mom! Are you ready to drop us off?" I asked. "Yes! Are you sure you want to go to Canada all by yourself? It will be you, and your thirteen–year–old twin brother. And of course, you will be staying with some of your friends." My mom said. "We will be fine." Justin said. It was two hours later. Justin and I were just sitting at the airport with the airport lady that was looking after us. Then they called our flight. We got on the plane. Ten minutes later and we were in the sky. Everything was so small from above. Then, I heard a loud clanging sound. "Are you okay?" Justin asked. "I'm fine... but what is that loud sound?" I asked. "I think he will know the answer. I thought. He wants to be a pilot when he grows up." I thought. "I think that is the sound of the airplane breaking down." He said. After a couple seconds of him thinking that over, he said, "Oh no... • 5. The Day Of The Summer Tennis Team It was the day that I tried out for the summer tennis team. I was so excited because my mom would be coming to tryouts. It is going to be clear skies from now on. "Maybe this can be something that my mother and I can bond over. Maybe she will see that I am important like my baby brother, Quinn. I hope she is not mad at me from the times I talked back to her," I whispered in a very quiet tone. The small bleachers were speckled with people like chocolate chips on a cookie. Then, tryouts started. My mom had dropped me off and drove around a block to change my brother's diaper. Then the coach shouted my name, "Ally, you're up." I thought some more about it. Not long after, my dad showed up to drive me home. "Let's go home," my dad told me with no explanation and I came with him, no question asked. Split Chin I was standing there, in my new bathing suite and I was coming in the house from a nice long swim. I was waiting by the back door on stone tile to go through the garage, through the front door. My mother's words went over and over in my head, like a beating drum. "Wait until I come back to walk across the garage floor." The grass shook in the breeze, not able to walk forward away like I seemed to be. My mom had not come back and I was pacing the ground. Little drops of water hit the ground from my swim suit like rain dripping on sidewalks. Then it hit me at full power. My mom was probably catering to my little brother again. I never went hunting. I never worked on a car. I never really enjoyed sports. By no definition of the standard of manhood did I measure, and I didn't have a father there to explain to me why I wasn't. Flashes of punching the mirror, shattering the image there, were common. What better way to lash out at something than to lash out at yourself. But what good would it do? It'd upset your mom, bother your dad, and hurt your hand to boot. And it would break a promise. Child Vehicular Heat Stroke Deaths According to the article "Child Vehicular Stroke Fact Sheet" from KidsAndCars.org, "The average number of U.S. child vehicular heat stroke deaths is 37 per year." That is one death of a child every nine days. Although, some individuals may or may not have unintentionally left their children in the car. A majority of parents that left their child in the vehicle unknowingly did it. However, there is a small percentage of parents that knowingly left their child unattended in the vehicle. In some cases, the child even entered the vehicle on their own without the parent or caregiver noticing in time. Statistics of child vehicular heat stroke deaths reveal that 54.25% of parents unknowingly left their child in the vehicle, 11.58% knowingly left their child in the vehicle, and 33.58% of the children entered the vehicle by themselves without parents or caregivers noticing in a reasonable amount of time (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke). Some individuals, usually non–parents, believe that it is completely absurd to forget a child is in the vehicle. However, the most dangerous mistake a parent or caregiver can make is to think leaving a child alone in a vehicle could never happen to them or their family (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke). A heat stroke can be extremely lethal to young children if it is not recognized and treated in time. What is a Heat Stroke? Before she left, Kate yelled "Izz I'm still sorry about Euro(the dog I had before Lulu)" and left. At this point I didn't know what to do, but, it wasn't her fault, she didn't know that anything I heard related to Euro made me feel as though I should cry. Also the fact that she called me "izz" and not "izzy" (short for my full name Elizabeth Adams), the way she usually does, caught me a bit off guard. This caused me to feel that a long walk with my new dog Lulu would help me to relax. Later in the evening I left my house with Lulu attached to the leash that belonged once to Euro, now without his bright green collar that went missing along with him. It was getting dark. A small amount of time passed before, the only light I had was the one shining from my phone. We walked for a while and the wind started picking up and swept by every second. My phone had no battery left, causing it to turn off and I could barely see. At first I didn't really assume anything good nor bad would happen, it was dark outside and It just got a bit windy. Those were my thoughts, yes, that Is until I noticed it. The bright green light shined from a distance and my first reaction was to run. I dropped Lulu's leash and ran towards the light. It was the next day when I woke up lying in the middle of nowhere. Several questions ran through my head all at once that I had no answer to. "What time is it?", "how ... The swelling sun was his eyes. "It's my birthday!" he remembered as if this was something someone could forget. "Seventy–nine today," he pondered, wondering where the time had gone. He painfully climbed off his old shabby mattress and stood by his bed–room window in white–blue striped pajamas. Abdelhamid just stared at the garden, thinking that there were so many things that had to be done. He looked around and thought to himself, "later maybe, much, much later." These days everything just seemed a little too difficult. Glancing at his beautiful rose garden and watching how the roses had woken up along with the start of the new day, he contemplated again, "It's my birthday today." The neighbor's dog was barking loudly and under the little shattered birdhouse, there was tiny little field mouse just nibbling on some of yesterday's toast. The heat was unbearable, even though the sun had barely showed her rays as she was waking up in the early morning, but that was how the month of August had always been, sticky, hot and humid. Abdelhamid El Helw, seventy–nine years old, was sitting in his kitchen. In silence, alone and lonely. The house seemed huge and hollow and the roof laid heavily on the walls. I have had a very challenging and interesting week. It started off with trivial car issues. My car broke down and I have been renting a car since last Saturday. Sunday the Men's Choir at the Church celebrated their 18th Anniversary. I was asked by one of the members if I could stay until the program. I had already planned to go home, take a nap, and then return, but when he asked I felt compelled to stay. I stayed at the Church form 9:00 – 7:00 pm. They had over 12 guest choirs to come and each choir sang two selections. I thought I would take advantage of this opportunity to mingle with the people and Mrs. Walls was one of the first I encountered. As she sat down next to me I could tell immediately by her star glasses and wrap on her head that she was flamboyant outwardly as well as inwardly. I told her I liked her glasses and how unique they were and she responded, "I know, if anyone else wore these they would look stupid. They only look good on me." I smiled trying to contain my laughter. She then went on to talk and throughout the course of the conversation, I heard many words of anger, frustration, and hurt projected towards the members of the church. I looked at this as the perfect opportunity inject myself as preacher/teacher. Taking from Willimon; you have to "set the message of a gospel of love."(205) extracting from ... • 29. Why Is Exercise A Exercise Program? You can hardly turn on the TV, radio, or computer without hearing or reading a report about the many benefits of exercise. Research has shown that moving our bodies makes them healthier and wards off diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer's. Yet with all of the scientific data as proof, why is it still so hard to commit to an exercise program? Many of us have the best of intentions. We buy workout clothes and sneakers, join the local gym, and even get ourselves up early to take a spinning class or two. But then, after a few weeks, we once again lose our motivation, break our resolutions, and fall back into our old habits. We need only look to our early ancestors to understand why modern man may have an aversion to exercise. Early man moved in order to stay alive. We had to wander sometimes for miles just to find food, and run like the wind to escape becoming food to something big and ferocious. Everyday life was a full–on workout filled with aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Back then, food was a precious resource and we conserved our energy as much as possible to save it for real threats and emergencies. Our current lives are vastly different. We can get food 24 hours a day and, unless we happen to get very unlucky during a camping trip, are rarely chased by bears or other wild animals. Our hardwired instincts tell us there's not much reason to expend any energy – AKA – workout like a fiend. But walking is something our ancestors did, and did a lot of. ... I enjoyed the movie, which I watched because of Adam Kempenaar's continuous praise, but I don't love it enough to merit that second viewing. On the contrary, the first time I watched it was at 11 p.m. and I had been up since 4:30 that morning. So my mental faculties weren't at their peak, and I began to doze off even though I liked the documentary. So I watched it again the next day, at a better time and with more sleep, to help me clarify why I think this is a very good but not great film. "Man on Wire," James Marsh's 2008 documentary, chronicles the story of Philippe Petit, an eccentric French tightrope walker who dreamed of performing on a wire between the Twin Towers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The walk is gratifying and somewhat beautiful and moving, but you don't quite know why. Maybe it's because it's fun to see Petit, in photographs, finally realize his dream. Maybe it's the payoff of seeing the "heist" accomplished. Maybe it's the poignancy of seeing someone with such joy atop what became a symbol for tragedy and loss on 9/11. Regardless of the reason, you certainly feel a swell of emotion when you see the images of Petit on the wire. With all that being said, I do think a few things hold "Man on Wire" back from becoming a truly great movie. One of those is that the lines between the recreations and archival footage that Marsh uses is often blurred. That bothered me for some reason, possibly because I'd like to know which one is the "truth." I eventually thought, however, that I don't think documentaries can truly show us objective reality, so that shouldn't matter. I also thought it didn't matter what was real footage and reconstructions because regardless the talent displayed in these segments actually happened and is impressive. • 39. Book Report On The Book ' I Crazy ' If you 'd like to connect with an entire community of writers, see the photo accompanying this column, and, possibly, win a paperback book, you 'll want to read this column on my blog. I have a neighbour who often drove her three kids to school. I'm too polite to have told her off for this, but they lived a 10–minute walk from both grade school and high school. What was she thinking? This kind of attitude – as well as the one that sees city officials failing to put sidewalks on all of their streets – makes me crazy. Walking is one of the best things we can do. This advice is particularly true for writers. Why? Because in order to write, we need to think, first. And thinking at our desks – instead of out in fresh air, while we're moving our bodies – is almost always a spectacularly bad idea. When we sit, our brains become leaden. But when we walk, our hearts pump faster and our brains and other organs get more blood and oxygen. Scientists have shown this helps our memories work better and improves our attention. The gentle exercise of walking also leads to new connections between brain cells, holding at bay the usual decline of brain tissue that comes with age. Even as my hair turns grey, I'm glad to know that I don't have to listen to contemporary music to keep my brain younger. Furthermore, walking also has a positive impact on creativity. In 2014, researchers from Stanford published a set of studies designed to measure the way walking changes creativity. When did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beginning Of Fall In the beginning of fall, which was also the beginning of school, there leaves falling outside in all different colors with hints of beauty inside them and there I was sleeping in high school, social studies class in the way way back. I came down from the stairs and asked nicely, ''can I have my book?'' '' Come and get it'' he replied. I went over there to try to get it. Now if you ask me, I should have just tackled him because the teacher wasn 't there. But if I had done that I could get in trouble, if the teacher walked in. Man On Wire, By James Marsh Man on wire which was set in 1947 directed by James Marsh about a french high wire artist Philippe Petit who is fascinated by New Yorks trade Centre where he has strung a six metre tight rope between the twin tires and walked across it without any fear. The documentary is about Petit 's daring attempt, the aftermath and about his friends and the people who helped him achieve his life goals. Some consider it "the artistic crime of the century" The director has used many techniques to captivate audiences making us feel like we are apart of this incredible story. Techniques such as Interviews and archival footage. One of the most widely used documentary techniques is interviews. Interviews reflect opinions from different viewpoints creating an almost 3 dimensional story. Its helps the audience feel more engaged as it is coming from a person 's point of view who was involved in the events making it feel more realistic. The audience can be assured that the story is not made up. Interviews give a sense of realism. Man on wire is a good example of the interview style being used to reflect feelings of the time Petit was on his way to making his dream come a reality. The emotions at some point were exaggerating maybe because he is a performer. But this made us as viewers feel apart of the film being able to sympathize with the characters and storyline. Marsh uses a technique where we see the subject talking on screen but we do not hear the interviewer talking or asking questions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wanted to walk for about an hour, cover about 4 miles, and get some inspiration along with fresh air. Based on my goals, I created a plan. I would drive to a large wooded "reservation" near my home. I plotted the path I would take. I would start by walking through the woods toward a paved path, do the loop on that path, and finally circle back along the road to my car. I parked my car and headed to the path that would take me through the wooded area. It 's right next to a dog park. There were five people walking with their dogs along the path that I was about to turn onto. I don 't have a dog and frankly, didn 't want the company. How was it that, before I even began, my plan wasn 't working out right? Entrepreneurs and goal setting The reason I 'm sharing this story is because I see this happening every day to the entrepreneurs I speak with. Goals are set, plans are made, and then something goes wrong. They don 't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Performers: Circus Skills and High Wire Essay Circus performers are people of great courage. They have to make a living out of entertaining people that pay good money to watch them and want to get their money's worth. They have a lot of pressure from that, as well as peer pressure from their fellow performers. Not only do they have pressure from that, they have to worry about the very acts being preformed from playing with swords and fire to hanging from a wire hundreds of feet in the air. If their not focused on what they are doing, they can be killed in a instant. One of the popular acts they do is called sword swallowing. This is a very dangerous stunt were they put a razor sharp sword down their throat like its nothing. This is an ancient skill in which the performer passes a ... The all time favorite, most popular, and the one that poses the most danger is the high wire. High wire is the same as tight wire but at much greater height. Although there is no official height when tight wire becomes high wire, generally a wire over twenty feet high will be regarded as high wire act. Traditionally, the difference is in style of performance. Usually they will only use a pole to help balance them as they walk across, but have been known to also use a bike or unicycle too. The reason why this is the crowds favorite is because it takes a great deal of skill, fearlessness, and just the high risk of death it portrays. Many of people have in fact died doing this, and died doing what they loved to do. The amount of risk that the circus performers have to deal with on a daily basis is flat out remarkable. They look a death and danger and smile like its nothing to them. Only a special group of people to have enough courage, or as some might say "stupidity" to do this line of work and love it. But the greatest thing of all about them is that they don't care how dangerous something is, if they think they can do it, they will do what ever it takes to accomplish it. I then walked back to my position beside the traffic light. The cars drove by, slowing down slightly but not coming to a full stop. I smiled at each one as if they were potential clients. A last a car came to a halt beside the corner and I approached the window, leaning over. As I did this, I looked back at upon my life... What had gone wrong? What had taken me to this point in my life? I didn't have much time to think before the man got a closer look at my drug abused face. He didn't even give me time to push off from the car, he just drove away sending me spinning from the car. After the incident with the man driving off, it made me reflect further on my life... Then I hung up as fast as I could so she didn't have the chance to ask any questions like, Why did it take so long for you to call me? I ran down stairs my mom was at the table with a blanket over her head while drinking a hot cup of coffee. "Bye mom I'll be back later. I'm going to the with Debra. Love you bye." I said happily. "Okay love you too and call me when you 're on your way home okay." She said tiredly. "Okay" I said in a rush. Than slammed the door behind me. Jack Rapke Yesterday, I was granted the opportunity, as a New York Film, Academy "alumni", to attend a Q&A given by producer, Jack Rapke, preceded by a screening of his newest film, "The Walk" which is based on a true story. The movie stars Joseph Gordon–Levitt (whom Rapke called "Joe") who plays French tightrope walker Phillippe Petit who in 1974, strung a rope connecting the buildings of the world trade center then tightrope walked across it. The movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis (who Rapke called "Bob"), starred Joseph Gordon–Levitt, who, much to my surprise, did all of his own stunts and speaks fluent French. His acting performance paired with the fact that he had to switch off speaking French and speaking English with a French accent while also balancing tediously on a tightrope was nothing short of astounding. Even with an all–star cast and crew, the movie flopped at the box office. After the movie and before the Q & A, they set up the lights and the cameras, but not just for the guest speaker. One of the more unusual truths I learned was that talent agents for actors are petrified of their clients. No one wants to break the tough news to one another and agents are no exception. This came as a surprise to because, as an actor, we want desperately to be taken in by an agent, that we fear them and what they will think of us. • 64. Personal Narrative : The Great Parnassus Essay I bet at least once in everyone's life their parents have told them not to talk to strangers, or not to trust people you don't know. I followed these rules very well, except for last spring break when I went to Mexico. For some reason, I was open to meeting anyone and everyone on that resort. It was probably because I was with some of my best friends that I knew for over four years, so I was comfortable. I went down there with a group of about thirty people and stayed at a resort called the Great Parnassus. This resort looked like a huge skyscraper with a hollowed out inside, which was where all the restaurants and amenities were. The back side of the resort was connected to the beach where one could swim or relax by the ocean. In between the beach and the back of the resort were a couple of swimming pools, bars, and a buffet. It was an average resort, but what really made it special was the people. For some unknown reason, we blindly trusted the local Mexicans and some of the other tourists we met at the resort which ended up doing us more bad than good. Ever since that trip I haven't been able to trust a stranger in another country. On the first night, we went out to the karaoke bar where we met the first group of interesting people on our trip. The bar was relatively small, probably a little smaller than the size of a tennis court with a couple pool tables and dining tables on one side, a dance floor on the other, and the bar ran along the back wall. • 68. The Walking Revolution ( 2013 ) : A Documentary On Walking... "All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking." This quote is from Friedrich Nietzsche, a German philosopher who mused on the Apollonian and Dionysian literary concept. These concepts deliberate the influence logic and emotion have on thought, particularly the conflict between the two, as well as individuation versus connection to the world. Walking is like a physical manifestation of the Dionysian concept, as not only does it physically connect one to the natural world, but also lends itself to creative thinking. While some assume walking is only beneficial to the physical well–being of a person, others claim it also stimulates creative thoughts and ideas. The Walking Revolution (2013) is a documentary on walking habits, the health benefits of walking and how technology has changed the way in which people approach exercise. Several doctors and researchers in the medical industry participated in the documentary and there opinions on walking and exercise at large give a clear and succinct idea of the benefits. When looking at the history of walking Sheila Franklin, a member of the National Condition for Promoting Physical Activity, states that in the 60s, "ninety percent of students who lived within a mile or less from school got there on their own power." She then goes on to state that today it has dropped to thirty one percent. Developing a clear understanding of background literature provides a strong theoretical foundation, or perspective to conduct an effective investigation with regard to how vehicle speed and presence are crucial aspects as to whether a shared space is successful or not. Therefore, this chapter will begin with an overview of the history and development of shared spaces followed by vehicle speed in shared space, risk homeostasis theory, speed reduction techniques, horizontal traffic deflections techniques, and entrances and surfaces. 3.2 The History & Development of Shared Spaces Ben Hamilton–Baille, an architect in the United Kingdom coined the term shared space however, the original design and concept is accredited to Hans Monderman, a Dutch traffic engineer who invented the term "Woonerf" in Nertherlands, 1970 (Ben–Joseph, 1995). However, there are many examples today of shared spaces throughout Australasia, Europe, the UK and the United States. Historic evidence states that streets has been a place of interaction, movement and activity. When cars were firstly introduced the road corridors were still a place to walk, move, and play. However, in the mid twenty century motor vehicles become more popular, where two concepts came to dominate road design: The most key role of a road is to accommodate efficient movement and fast journey for vehicles. ...
