In this opening title sequence of a well know cartoon film
‘Toy Story’ It begins with the main character ‘Woody’ lay
in a position that straight away tells the audience he’s a
cartoon character and with him being the first person we
see gives us the idea that he’s the main character. In big
bold lettering is the words ‘Walt Disney Pictures
Presents’, the institution of the film this tells us that this
film will most likely be aimed at children due to the fact
it’s made my Walt Disney and the fact that the main
character is a cartoon.
The next person we see is Andy a young boy who is also a
cartoon, he begins to play with Woody and talk to him
this is how we know Andy is only a young boy. ‘Toy Story’
then shows up in big writing which is the title of the film.
The style of the writing is child like big and bold using
contrasting colours such as blue, red and yellow. The
background of this text is blue sky’s which matches
Andy’s wallpaper in his bedroom. This is the main clue
that the film is about Andy. By the title being Toy Story it
gives us a big clue about what the film is going to be a
about, a story about a young boys toys. So we know the
toys we will be meeting will be childish such as cowboys,
barbies, dogs, spacemen etc. Throughout the sequence
you see other things in Andy’s room which shows he’s
only young such as cardboard boxes with farm animals
on and drawings on his walls.

Visual Effects &
Colour Scheme
The colour scheme is very contrasting as you can see in
our opening sequence the main slide with the title on has
blue, red and yellow writing.
Genre Conventions
As the film goes on you see the genre is family and
adventure. The family because its set for a family
audience but also because Andy and the toys themselves
are a family. The adventure comes from what they end
up doing on every Toy Story film going on an adventure
somewhere.
Narrative
The first words we hear are Woody telling Andy he is ‘his
favourite deputy’. This sums up their relationship which
also adds to Woody being a cowboy so he’s referring to
Andy as his partner.
The music playing throughout the sequence is repeating
you’ve got a friend in me which shows the relationship
between both characters as well.
