2. My task
My task was to create power
point presentation on a
preferred genre included in
the 3 films that I have chosen
which are Bad boys 1,
Swordfish and Kickass.
3. Genre
The preferred genre to my
presentation is action. As all
these films contain action in
them. This is because all the
films include shooting and
violence. An example of this is
a car crash or a gun shootout.
4. Plot similarities
Bad Boys :The plot of this film is to protect a witness while trying to solve a
robbery involving large amounts of drugs.
Swordfish: An Ex hacker is struggling financially to gain custody of his
daughter, knowing this, a mob boss offers a him life changing sum of money
only if he can help him to steal billions of dollars from the US government
using his hacking skills.
Kick-Ass: The story of a teenage comic book enthusiast who one day feels
that not all superheroes need powers and he creates his own costume and
calls himself Kick-Ass, he faces many obstacles on the way including his
cities biggest mob boss.
These three plots are similar because they involve stealing money and
something to do with crime. They are also similar because they both have
drug talks in the some scenes.
5. Shot types similarities
Bay boys Shot types- The shot types that were used Bad boys were extreme
close up, close up, long shot medium shot and panning. In the film they used
Frist person perspective shots to show a first person perspective form the actors.
I thought this was effective because by doing it gives the audience a idea on
what the actor is seeing in the chase.
Swordfish shot types : Lots of extreme close ups , looking space, zooms onto
fingers of hacker
Kick-ass shot types: Some shots zooming into the main characters’ face, shots of
the characters eyes staring at each other like showdown and some shots with
looking space.
All three of these films have similar shot type uses.
• An example of this is in ‘Bad boys’ and ‘Swordfish’, they both use extreme
close up shots when there is emotional facial expression on a characters face
in a scene.
• An example of a scene like this is in ‘Bad Boys’ where Mike Larry arrives at
crime scene and sees one of his lovers dead. At this moment he starts to cry
this where there is a use of an extreme close up shot which is used to
address the characters emotion to the audience. Also in all three films they
is use of panning in all the chase scenes to create tension and excitement.
6. Character similarities
• Bad boys – Mike Larry – Bold ,Brave, Fearless, Serious,
caring ,rude
• Bad boys- Marcus Burnet Bold, Daring, Family man
• Swordfish- Gabriel Shear – Fearless, Smart, Cunning,
Leader, Selfish, Rich
• Kick- ass- Dave lizewski (Kick- ass)-Caring, Smart
,Optimistic, Creative, Never Gives Up.
All of these characters are similar because they are all
involved in crime/police. They are all involved with robbery
or trying to stop it . They are all fearless and wont back
down .
7. Music similarities
• Bad Boys: In the film there is intense music which is only played when
something like a gun shoot out or a car chase is being produced in a scene.
Also in the film there is sad music which is only played if a death scene has
happened or when a character is crying. This is used to share emotion with the
audience .
• Swordfish – Swordfish use dramatic music to put a meaning towards a scene.
For example the chasing scene .
• Kick- ass- Kick –ass use rock music to fit with the fight scenes to make the
scenes look more dramatic .
• All of these films a similar with their use of music because they use intense
music in fight scenes to make them look more interesting for the audience to
watch and also it make the scenes look more effective.
• Here are three soundtracks:
• Bad Boys 1 soundtrack:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdT-e_Z2TN0-
the music is used because it is upbeat and cheerful
• Kick-ass sound track : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFFFwJ_DNFA- this
theme song is used because it is cheery and enjoyable
• Swordfish Sound track:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAwGjGZXwk0-p
this music because it is mysterious and weary
8. Age certification similarities
• Bad Boys- this film is rated a 18 this because of inappropriate
scenes for children , bad language (use of a racist word ),.
Blood ,gore and very violent scenes.
• Swordfish – this film is rated a 15 because inappropriate scenes

All these films are similar with their age rating because they all
include violence , bad language and blood and gore
9. Lighting similarities
Bad boys : The lighting in bad boys is dark and dim this is
because it is a film from 1995, so films were not in a high
quality like now.
Swordfish: The lighting in Swordfish is dark and dim this is
because it is a old film from 2001. The lighting is bright in
scenes that are only in the daytime or in a lit up room
Kick-ass: The lighting in Kick-ass is bright and clear this is
because it was made in 2010. The reason being because this
film is based off a comic book. Hence being the reason why so
many of the scenes are so colourful.
All these films are similar with lighting because they all have
different scenes which are bright and also dark and dim.

14. Shot type examples
Bad Boys 1 Swordfish
This is a shot from one of the
first scenes in Bad Boys 1.This
shot is a close up of Marcus
Burnet having a pointed at
his head. A close up shot is
needed here because the
audience can see his facial
expressions which helps
them have a understanding
of how he is feeling at this
point.
This a shot from swordfish
where Stanley jobson trying
to hack into the
government’s security whilst
having a gun pointed at his
head. This shot is medium
close up because this shot
shows the audience how
Stanley is feeling at this
moment. It also shows how
nervous he is at this point in
the film
Kickass 1
This is a shot from kickass 1
where a school girl is
pointing a gun at some
criminals in her house. This
shot is a medium shot. This
hot is effective because it
shows gun close up and the
girl's facial expressions
which shows the audience
she is scared.
All these shots relate
to each other because
they all involve some
having a gun pointed
at them.
15. Similar shot types
This example is a
close up shot of
Gabriel Shear. This
shot is showing his
facial expressions
at this time in the
film. In this case
this shot makes
him look smug
This example is
very similar to the
other two shot
examples because it
a close up of one
person. In this case
of Marcus Burnett.
This shot is effective
because it shows
how the character is
acting at this point
This example is also very
similar to the other
camera shot example
because it a close up shot
of Dave Lizewsk on roof.
This example also shows
the character facial
expressions in his case
the shot makes him look
bold and brave.

shots types as the
other do.
Kickass 2

17. Why I chose action as my genre
I chose this genre because the target audience
which it is aimed at are my age. Another reason
of why I chose action is because it is an exciting
genre to watch, and action is my favourite genre
to watch.
