2. WHY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT?
• The educational profession is always changing. Daily, new
investigations, and inquiries are taking place, and keeping current
in the teaching field; teachers must engage in ongoing
professional development.
• To coincide with the school district’s short-term goal of using 3D
printers in correlation with science, technology, engineering, arts
and mathematics (STEAM) curriculum 3D printers will be part of
teacher professional development.
• Long term goals: using 3D printers alongside STEAM, project
based learning which will be taught in a blended learning
environment.
3. 3D PRINTERS
• 3D printers are part of the new industrial revolution in all
occupational fields globally.
• It makes a 2-D design into a tangible object, which creates a
hands-on learning model for classrooms through the use of a
computer and design software or drawn objects.
• Taking layer by layer of materials and printing them into a 3D
object. It constructs what was once only imaginable to the
realm of reality, in other words, bringing science fact and
fiction to life.
• A 3D printer allows you to print with various materials that are
found in different environments.
• After all, we are preparing students for the future in the 21st-
century.
4. SOME ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR THE PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT
• Teachers will learn:
• 1. How to print out 3D objects with a 3D printer
• 2. Know how to use the 3D printer without help
• 3. Create lesson plans that include 3D printed objects.
• 4. Learn about TPACK; what it is; what it will be applied for
• 5. Create lesson plans using TPACK.
• 6. Conduct an experiment with Vernier Science tools
• 7. Perform an STEAM-based curriculum lesson
• 8. Share both results via networking.
• 9. Furthermore, teachers will write and videotape a newscast,
• 10. Hold a debate
• 11. Practice a plethora of collaborative strategies.
• 12. Read articles, books
• 13. Hold book talks that will occur during the training.
• 14. Write blogs and reflect on their practices, lessons, questions and comments
while attending professional development meetings.
• 15. Share ideas with group members, peer-to-peer tutoring and mentoring will
occur (this is an option).
