The presentation provides an overview of integrating technology applications and game-based learning in teaching and learning. It discusses using digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to join professional learning communities. Examples of apps that can be used for different subjects like Virtual Tee for life sciences, Space 4D for social sciences, and Kahoot for quizzes are presented. The objectives are to help teachers upgrade their skills and use technology tools to produce employable graduates with 21st century skills. Challenges of using technology in schools and recommendations for teachers to improve are also highlighted.
1. Teaching is the mother of all professions focus: on

3. What is teaching as a career?
• “Teaching is a profession of which all other professions dedepend” Linda
Darling-Hammond on Transforming education.
• A Teacher is like potter who delicately shapes and mold the minds into
a vessel that defines perception and ambitions
• The following are some of the questions you need to ask if you want to
join this noble profession:
• Do you love to learn and update yourself
• Do you love to be around children?
• Do you find satisfaction in helping others?
• Do you enjoy gathering and sharing information?
• Do you have a command over written and communication skills?
• Do you have team work skills?
4. Teaching as a profession……
• We can say a teacher is a person with specialized skills and applications of
knowledge which helps students , people or society to unearth their hidden skills
that they will use to face the future with pride.
•

• Integrate technology into your subject area by helping
you to create effective technology-infused lesson
plans that will support your classroom teaching goals.
• To inspire and encourage teachers to upgrade their
skills
• To use different tools and knowledge to produce future
leaders in different careers through teaching.

to bring your lessons to life.
• Help your learners to use technology to achieve and
demonstrate 21st century skills. (Creativity,
collaboration, communication and critical thinking)
• To groom employable and job creators of the future
• Evaluate your progress as a tech- integration-savvy
teacher, using the TPACK and SAMR models.
10. Vision of this institution.. IIE Rosebank College
• “To offer quality Education at affordable prices and employment of all our
graduates”
• What makes graduate employable?
• Pearson wrote report where he presented framework for developing
employability within university campus: Five key areas are highlighted there for
educators to focus on with students:
• Development of skills and knowledge in their discipline
• Development of self
• Development of career awareness
• Gaining the ability to interact with others
• Learning to navigate the world of work
11. The impact of technology in job marketing
• Some ten years ago.. We did not have these careers:
• App developer
• Social Media Manager
• Data scientists
• Web creators
• Web engineers
• Online Authors
• So with constant digital advance we will see more job market technology skills
12. Teaching, mother of all the profession focusing on TLWT
Curriculum integration with the use of technology involves the
infusion of technology as a tool to enhance the learning in a
content area or multidisciplinary setting...
Effective integration of technology is achieved when students are
able to select technology tools to help them obtain information in a
timely manner, analyse and synthesize the information, and
present it professionally to an authentic audience.
www.sahistory.org.za
The technology should become an integral part of how the
classroom functions—as accessible as all other classroom tools.
The focus in each lesson or unit is the curriculum outcome, not the
technology.“

14. Teaching with Technology
Do you use all the
elements in this
model?
You can use the TPACK model
throughout the course and in
your lesson planning to make
sure that you cover all the areas
of integration.
TPACK
To learn more about the TPACK
model, consult your Module 1
resource folder:
15. SAMR Model
Learn more:
The SAMR model is a
conceptual framework for
educators to categorize &
analyse the effectiveness of
technology on students'
learning and uncover ways to
use technology to transform
the learning process in ways
that traditional methods
simply cannot.
16.
17. Skills that learners must acquire in their
learning

INNOVATION IMAGINATION
COMMUNICATION COLLABORATION
19. CRAYON
PHYSICS
Crayon Physics Deluxe is a puzzle
video game.
It features a heavy emphasis on
two-dimensional physics
simulations, including gravity, mass,
kinetic energy and transfer of
momentum.
The game includes a level editor
and enables its players to download
and share custom content via an
online service.
20. To produce products and teaching graduates with
employable and marketable skills……….
• For some years we have seen teaching graduates idling with their
teaching degrees
• After the introduction of technology tools through TPACK and
applications in teaching and learning, incorporating UNSDGs, 21st
century skills and SAMR model , we gradually seeing teachers with
skills being well marketed because they acquired different skills
during their studies:
• Online book writing : authors
• Web designers
• Software engineers
• Progammers etc……
21. Generational gap: We don’t see
things in the same way

40. 21st Century Skills (4Cs)
When you create learning experiences for your learners, make sure that you
incorporate the 4Cs into your lesson planning. Link them to your SAMR model. Decide
how you can best use technology to substitute old ways of doing things. Push your
learners to use technology to communicate their understanding, collaborate with
others to share and test their understanding in a critical way, and create a visual or
audio resource to demonstrate their creativity in solving problems.
41. Way forward
To start to use technology tools in our classes
Cellphone is a major tool to be used in class too
drive teaching and learning
To have overhead projectors and teacher laptops
to enhance teaching and learning
To form groups in what’s app to continue with
teaching and learning even otsidethe classroom
To use social media platforms to curate
information, to share and inspire other young
teachers
To upskill or upgrade our selves in techonology
skills
42.
43.
44. Challenges
• Technophobic educators
• Rigid school code of conducts
• The high rate of crime in schools
• Teachers not willing to upskill
• Elderly teachers, more especially
primary school teachers
• Schools without internet connections
48. Recommendations
For teachers to upgrade
To run school based workshops to teachers
To join in social media platforms to learn, share and collaborate with other
teachers
To attend online webinars where they train educators on how to use
technology tools to drive and enhance teaching and learning
To prioritize teaching aids that speak to 4IR era
To amend school code of conduct that prohibit the use of cellphones in
schools
To draw code of conduct that goes in line with the use of technology tools
in class.
To move with time
“Its undeniable that behind every successful men and women there is a
great teacher”
To remain the great pillars of the society
50. Regroup yourselves Brain storm
innovative ideas
Plan how to
drive those ideas
Remember that each and every teacher has a
piece of puzzle in his/her hand
Your reflection time back at school
51. Words of wisdom
“If you want to kill
birds, shoot where
they are going. You
shoot where they are,
you are likely to miss
them” Unknown
“The moment we
become comfortable
with challenges in our
communities, we lose
humanity:’ Phuti
Ragophala
52. Man in the mirror
I'm gonna make a change
For once in my life
It's gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right...
As I, turn up the collar on my
Favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin' my mind
I see the kids in the street
With not enough to eat
Who am I, to be blind?
Pretending not to see their needs
A summer's disregard
A broken bottle top
And a one man's soul
They follow each other on
The wind ya' know
53. 'Cause they got nowhere to go
That's why I want you to know
I'm staring this Man In The Mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have
Been any clearer
If you wanna make the world
A better place
Take a look at yourself, and
Then make a change
(Na na na, na na na, na na, na nah)
