Today, nostalgia is defined as a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's
life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for happiness
of a former place or time (nostalgia). There are very different views on nostalgia stemming back in
history to the 17th century to today. For those unfortunate souls that embraced nostalgia from the
17th century to the 19th century, their nostalgia was viewed as a disease in which harsh treatment
should be given; however, today's nostalgia is embraced to its fullest through objects, music, and my
favorite, through pictures and video (Beck). It is quite typical today to look around and see someone
capturing a picture or filming a video of something; all of which primarily are using their mobile
devices to do so. Today, technology has allowed society to capture something at a moment's notice.
If you are anything like me, my phone's memory card fills up pretty quickly as I capture images of
our son, our family outings, our home, or our less than frequent vacations. These images and videos
become an important part of my life, as I want to capture these moments now to savior for a
lifetime. Whereas, some people in today's society believe that people are simply taking a picture or
video of something or some place just to say they have been somewhere or done something. In my
mind, there is no better way to capture the warm, fuzzy feelings of nostalgia than through a

My Travel Experience : My Experience In My Life
In the past sixteen years in my life I have traveled to fifteen states and one other country. I traveled
across the United States to New York, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C, Wisconsin, and
Pennsylvania. The other country I went to was Canada. When I went to these places it was either
over the summer or with school on a trip. These traveling experiences have shaped my childhood
and made me become the person I am today. From all the traveling I've done in my life, I now love
to travel and I'm glad I get to go every month to Michigan to visit my family.
My first and last trip out of the state with my class was to Washington D.C. We went in 8th grade of
2014 and went over fall break for four days. It took us approximately twelve hours to get there on a
charter bus. During the ride there, we left at about 6 pm and drove through the night. Me and my
friends slept on the floor of the back of the bus. We get there the next day at about 6 am and we all
got ready in a public bathroom and had a pretty gross breakfast. I can say for sure it wasn't my
favorite morning. Later as the day goes by we see Lincoln Memorial and where Martin Luther King
Jr. said his "I have a dream.." speech. We also saw the White House as well as a few other
memorials. The next day was the day I had to lay the wreath of the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier"

Part A: Introduction and Statement of Objectives
Wilfrid Laurier University has conducted an archaeological field school at Old Fort Erie in 2012,
2013, and 2015. The work has primarily been conducted by undergraduate students supervised by
Teaching Assistants and Dr. John Triggs. This paper will be focused on the 2015 season, specifically
nnit M, excavated by Joshua Graf. The artifacts recovered from the Unit have been catalogued and
entered into an excel worksheet; pivot tables have also been created. These artifacts will be analyzed
and statements will be made about the assemblage and its relation to the wider site.

The areas of investigation were focused to the west of Douglass battery, chosen based on an 1804
watercolour painting by Edward Walsh (see figure 1). In the painting, three buildings are observed
in the background, which prompted the survey of the suspected area. A grid was set up in the area
with flags being placed at an interval of five meters. These intervals were test pitted down to the
subsoil and the contents screened through mesh. The test pits, which revealed building material,
were used to co–ordinate three different areas that would be excavated. Units were placed within
each of these three spaces, laid in a way to maximize the area that would be covered. Areas one and
three were supervised by teaching assistants Katie Anderson and Duncan Williams, while area two
was under the supervision of Dr. John Trigs. All soil that was removed was screened through wire
mesh and artifacts were placed in plastics bags with the provenience labeled on the front. The season
lasted six weeks, beginning from May 11th, to June 5th 2015. At the end of the season, all units
were backfilled with soil, with plastics sheets being placed in specific units to protect features.

The following section contains an analysis of the artifacts recovered from unit M. All artifacts
catalogued by both myself and my partner, Laura Inthof, were complied into a single spreadsheet.

Two places I would like to live when I grow up would be either in Toronto, the capital of Ontario,
located in southeastern Canada, or Niagara Falls, the most southern point in Ontario, a major tourist
city in Canada. Why? Perhaps my primary reason is that Niagara Falls is my hometown and Toronto
is the longest place I've lived so far–six years. Of course, there are many alternative reasons
likewise. Such as the scenery of the Niagara Falls itself is extremely beautiful, moreover natural,
hence it is number five of the world's top visited tourist attractions respectively. According to "The
World's 50 Most Visited Tourist Attractions" by the Huffington Post, 22.5 million people visit
annually, acquiring maximum tourists from June through August. This fascinating city overlooks the
Horseshoe Falls, otherwise known as the Canadian Falls, which carries nine times more water than
its American counterpart. Here, the alluring crescent shaped cataract is a prodigious fifty four
meters, or one hundred and seventy seven feet high. Going up close to the falls on the boat was just
incredible, although I was only four at the time–I still remember–to think, by what means did nature
make something so befittingly stunning! As we neared the falls, the sound of the limpid, fleet water
rapids joyfully cascading off the cliff like syrup, consequently pounding against the rocks at the
bottom, unmistakably gets louder likewise thundering, until it is deafening. Despite the sound being
obstreperous, it is a fraction of nature's rumbles, making it vibrantly flawless. Accumulating at the
bottom, it foamed into lather, bubbling to the surface, shimmering and sparkling as if bejeweled
with silver, glinting in the aureate light. At that moment the sun came out, its rays catching onto the
watery slide, setting onlookers into a trance. Simultaneously turning it glittery like shreds of silky
silver, magical like a spray of fairy dust. While significantly having the same dreamy and illusory

In her essay, "Seeing", Annie Dillard describes that someone's perception of the world are based on
preconceived judgements and ideas. Traveling is an example that illustrates that there are many
different perceptions of the world, depending on the person. When one travels, their impression will
be affected by expectations of the trip. Often, if someone has an image in their head of how
traveling will be, they aren't open–minded to diversity. An individual's perception of traveling can
be affected by what people find enjoyable, their tolerance of creating intercultural relationships, and
their appreciation for their own life. People's impression of traveling may be affected by their
presumptions of their destination. For example, many people swarm to 'tourist traps' on their trips.
While many of these attractions are interesting and beautiful, they aren't very appealing to visit with
thousands of other tourists. For instance, visiting Niagara Falls is a major tourist attraction. People
may see impressive pictures of the falls and decide they want to go there. Once they arrive, they
realize that there are people everywhere. As a result, it can be hard to get a good view of the falls.

Over the last 6 months I have been interning for Rich Products as a Transportation Intern. A little
history of Rich's is that it was founded in 1945 by Robert E. Rich with Rich's Whipped Icing. The
company is 100% family owned and is the largest privately owned frozen food company in the U.S.
with about $3.7 billion in annual sales. Over the years they have grown and added many
international locations. Interning at a company this large has been a great experience.
I found the internship by searching on websites such as Indeed and saw that they were looking for
candidates that are enrolled in a supply chain major. I right away applied for this seeing as it was in
transportation. I was highly interested in transportation as I was enrolled in a class taught at Niagara
called Transportation Systems. I was able to differentiate myself from other job candidates by
explaining simulations we used in the class along with other transportation knowledge taught in

in the shape of a horseshoe and is split in half on the Canadian border and the American border by
Goat Island. The Horseshoe Fall has nine times more water than the American Falls and makes up
90% of Niagara River. It stands at 167 feet tall and is 2, 700 feet wide in a horseshoe shape. The
American Fall and is located in America and is in the state of New York. This Fall is 110 feet tall

There are many natural places all over the world. One of the places I have been to, and really
enjoyed, is Niagara Falls. This place is absolutely amazing. It has amazing sights and scenes, as well
as other fun tourist attractions. Going on the tour at Niagara Falls taught me a lot about the site. I
love this place because everytime I go there I am sent to this place that I could find, it just takes me
away I went to Niagara Falls when I was about 12. I stepped out of the car and just hearing the
incredible sound of the Falls, I was taken. It was so loud, just a huge roar of all the water going over
the edge. It surprised me because I didn't think it would be that loud. It only got louder and louder as
I got to the rail by the edge of the fall. Seeing the view of the falls took my breath away. Between
the blue of the flowing river water, the white of the rough water falling over the side, and the mist of
the water splattering off the rocks at the bottom of the waterfall, I was taken by its glory. Add on the
view of the city too and it was just an amazing experience for me. When I went on the tour I was
told a lot of facts that I found very interesting. For example, on the American side it is 1060 feet
long and 176 feet tall. It would be about 70 feet, but on account of the rocks at the base it is 176 feet.
Also, the American side has a volume of about 150,000 US Gallons. Being as young as I was, I was
super impressed with these numbers. They told me that they are two hydroelectric plants in the area
that change the volume of water that flows over. The volume depends on the time of year and the
time of day. The heaviest flow is travel season, June, July, August, during the daytime. I found it
incredible that these plants could change the flow of water of something as grand as Niagara Falls.
There are so many other things to do in the Niagara Falls area other than just going to the railing to
see the Falls. You can go on tours, whether it's the daytime tours or the nighttime tours. During the
night tours the Falls are lit with lights that were placed behind the waterfalls. The lights are all
different colors and it is beautiful. During the daytime tours it is just looking at the falls but it is

My dad refused to go on that. So did my sister. As it went through the canyon, it turned into a
whirlpool at one point. It looked like a hurricane being shown by the radar during the weather on the

According to the Niagara Escarpment Commission, "The Niagara Escarpment stretches 725 km
through Southern Ontario's landscape, from Queenston in the Niagara Region up to Tobermory in

prominent and significant feature in Ontario's landscape, but is also recognized on a national level as
one of Canada's premier biosphere reserves, highlighted by UNESCO".
UNESCO biosphere reserves are considered some of the major ecosystems in the world. According
to UNESCO, biosphere reserves are "sites of excellence where new and optimal practices to manage
nature and human activities are tested and demonstrated". However when an individual's actions are
expected to negatively impact the Niagara Escarpment, limitations must be imposed on the
individual in order to preserve the biosphere for the greater good of the world. Humans must respect
and follow the regulations of an UNESCO biosphere reserve in order to maintain it. Before one

Punchbowl Falls
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest of the United States has ignited my passion for hiking and
being in nature. For a greater portion of my life, I have lived next to Multnomah Falls and all the
beautiful hikes that surround it. My absolute favorite hike in the Columbia River Gorge area is
Punchbowl Falls. It is 5 miles and leads to a beautiful waterfall that people can swim in. Conquering
this hike takes almost a full day as it is mostly uphill and once people finally find the waterfall, they
do not ever wish to leave. Most of it is on a cliff's edge, which can be intimidating, but as people
hike higher, they are able to see incredible views of thousands of trees that never end. If that isn't
beautiful enough, the site of the waterfall is breathtaking. My first time going on this hike, I could
hear the water of the waterfall roaring, much like my excitement to capture in its beauty. When I
witnessed the waterfall, I noticed it runs off about a fifty foot cliff and I saw others jumping off it.
After many minutes of standing on the cliff's edge, I finally gained enough courage to jump.

Personal Narrative: Niagara Falls, Ontario
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. A wonderful place, the falls themselves being one of the seven
natural wonders of the world. The roaring water, mist spraying from below, seagulls flying through
the sky; One happy place. That was, until my family took a tour, three–hundred plus feet in the air,
the aero–car being only attached to wires, stretching from boarder to boarder. A day filled with
happiness turning into a day of fear.
A fear of heights plus being three–hundred plus feet in the air with complete strangers, probably

restriction of political and economic freedoms. In the progressive era, the economy grew
enormously. But because America was changing from a rural society to more of an urban scene,

This was the beginning of the uprising of America's economy during the progressive era. Big
business essentially became in control of the economy, and this is where we see those restrictions.
Because big businesses were in control of the economy, greed became an epidemic among

working class. It also created a larger gab between the working class and the business owners in
terms of wealth. However, this did not last long as reform came. These victories helped shape the

A Brief Note On Cataract Elementary School Website
There were several sources used to obtain information provided in this report. The first and main
source used was from the Cataract Elementary School website. This source provided information
concerning the school, and academic affairs. Another source used was my personal experience of
walking around the school, and taking note of pictures, and children's artwork on the walls. Also
from personal experience, the mission and school mottos were obtained from seeing the school
walls, and were included in this report. Another source used was The Niagara Falls School District
handbook, providing a plethora of information regarding school rules, activities, and community
service opportunities for students and families. Two sources were used concerning NYSED data

The Niagara Escarpment is one of the world's natural wonders preserved by the UNESCO World
Biosphere Reserve since 1990. It is a forested landscape made up of rocks ranging several hundred
meters in height and consists with rich biodiversity and a habitat to many types of wildlife. The
ridge extends 725 km in length from Queenston on Niagara River through densely populated areas
like Hamilton, Milton to Tobermory at the tip of Bruce peninsula (CanadianEncyclopedia). The

By the basic definition, something is rare when it either does not occur often or it is not found in
large numbers which adds to its interest and value. The rarity of an object can be argued by different
groups of people. This causes debates about what should be considered rare and to what degree of
rarity an object is. If said object is classified as rare, what should be done with that object or idea
and how, if at all, should it be preserved. In this essay, I am going to question the idea of rarity and
show why rarity should not be used as a way to regulate environments. One view of rarity comes
from the realists; they believe "... an object is unique within a purview: given a certain boundary,
there exists no other object like it. " This idea makes defining something as rare only specific to the
boundary set. So, if something is rare in America it may not be as rare, if rare at all, in Europe. This
could have complications when considering different aspects of nature and how to define those
aspects as rare. For example, to Americans the Niagara Falls is a rare phenomenon and should be
maintained due to their rarity, however in other parts of the world there are falls just as good, if not

"Some things can be done as well as others", the famous line of Sam Patch became a well–known
saying amongst U.S. citizens especially Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democrats (Johnson, 163). Sam
Patch was many things in his lifetime from a famous falls jumper to a destitute mill worker to also
the first American–born boss spinner. He however was viewed different amongst social groups in
America. The common folk and Jeffersonian democrats viewed Patch as a good man and somewhat
of a folk hero, while the middle class and Hamiltonians viewed him as a drunkard and a sign of the

Sam Patch as a simple drunkard and a symbol of the decay and immoralities of American society.
Journalists during his time wrote Sam Patch "like many other great geniuses is a greater friend to the

"respectables" and the wage–earning class was inferior to them, which is evident in the celebration

Throughout the movie, Brian goes through the Identity Foreclosure, Identity Moratorium and
Identity Achievement statues of James Marcia's identity statuses theory. When Brian lives up to his
obedient, "Good Citizen," nerd image, he's in the Identity Foreclosure status since he
unquestioningly adopts his parents' and society's visions, values and roles. He follows rules,
questions rebelliousness and allows others to view him as weak for being a geek. Then, he
transitions into an Identity Moratorium status where he delays his commitment to being the Brain
and explores "alternative ideologies" and sides to himself when he smokes weed and connects to the
troubles and philosophies of the rest of the Breakfast Club (Weiten, 457). Finally, at the end of the
movie, Brian achieves the Identity Achievement status where he grows closer to a sense of identity
and direction after "thinking through alternative possibilities," or hanging out with the rest of the
Breakfast Club (Weiten, 457). After being accepted by others, Brian builds his self–esteem and
values his life despite his failures once and for all.

For instance the lions, monkeys, antelope, lammas,... They were all out of there cages, but you had
to stay in your cars. When some cars were ahead we saw them feeding the monkeys , the monkeys

Another one of my favorite places I have ever visited Is Niagara Falls we went to the both sides of
falls American and Canadian side we loved the Canadian Side more because it was much cleaner
and they took more care into their side in my opinion. We went on a boat ride on the falls it was
beautiful they told us all kinds of facts and history about the Falls which was really interesting.
Another place I have loved visiting was Los Angeles during a delivery trip with my dads
commercial truck which we saw lots of cool stuff during our way down to Los Angeles we saw new
cool stuff out in the west new foods , new culture we tried out this weird food I have never tried
fried squirrel which was amazing food I wish they served in New York it kinda tasted like fried
chicken. While we were out on this trip we saw one of tournaments for my favorite video game

What Lies Beyond Ever since I was a little kid, I had always wanted to travel. I have always wanted
explore and discover the exoctic places the lie in other corners of the earth. Throughout my
childhood I have watched many TV shows of people traveling the world and visiting famous
landmarks I would hope to see one day. One of my favorite explorers, and survivalists is Bear
Grylls, his adventures make me want to get out and explore the world on my own. I would one day
like to be able to travel all around the world, and experience different cultures. I have not had the
chance to leave the United States, but a few years ago I did get the chance to visit the famous
landmark that lies on the border of the United States and Canada. I got to experience the breath

The state was covered in forests and mountains. We stayed with my uncle, who lived on the side of a
mountain, the view was unreal. I could see for miles and miles when I was in a clearing. The
animals there are very different than the common ones we see here. Unlike Kansas, where we see
possums and skunks, Maine has porcupines and moose. While I was in Maine, I got to visit Bar
Harbor. This landmark is one of Maine's most visited locations. It is made up of streets filled with
