"Tweet" went the ear piercing whistle, as we were doing our passing drills. All of the many players
huddled in around Coach Cline as practice was ending soon. My body was aching all over, my eyes
drooping and my ears half–listening. I almost dozed off as the coach was talking about the next
game and my eyes and ears flickered on when he mentioned who will be starting this next game. All
the boys and girls staring patiently as the coach lifted his papers and started to read out loud, "Alex,
you will play striker next game." I nodded calmly, yet my head was spinning with excitement and
also nervousness. I barely payed attention as coach called out the other starters. Once he was done, I
noticed some of my many good friends smiling. I assumed they also are starting this next ... Show

Then, I turned around to see something else. Phil and Hope were arguing, and loud. Everyone
stopped and listened as they heard the fight, "I think we should be The Lightning!" Phil demanded.
"No, we should be the Spurs!" Hope shouted back and added, "The Lightning is way to original."
Phil felt enraged and shouted angrily, "Well if you don't agree with me then I don't agree with our
friendship!" I saw Hope's eyes turn heartbroken then flashed with anger. She then stormed out and
sat by a tree about 50 yards away with her head buried in her arms. Phil shook his head in awestruck
and then angrily kicked one of our soccer balls across the field. I looked around to all my friends
and they looked devastated. Then I looked to Brooklyn, who did not for one second look sad. She
trudged over to Phil and I followed. She sat down by him and started to try to comfort him. "I just
got angry." Phil sobbed "I did not want to end our friendship." Brooklyn nodded and said, "It's ok,
everyone gets angry sometimes. But when you get angry you need to apologize for it." Phil nodded,
then stood up, wiped off his eyes and strolled over to Hope

3. The Giver Personal Freedoms
In the novel The Giver the people of the community have given up many personal freedoms. Many
of the citizens find it frightening to have these freedoms. As Jonas receives more memories, he starts
to want some personal freedoms. One freedom that this community has given up is the freedom of
expression. The committee has done this to keep control. The committee wants to have total control
and in order to do this they can't have anyone acting or looking different. In the The Giver the
people must wear the same cloths. The cloths are the same, when Jonas discovers colors he thinks
that it would be nice to choose what you wear going to wear that day. The freedom of expression is
one that we are lucky to have. As Jonas is discovering,it

5. Generalized Definition Of Personal Freedom
Personal Freedom
To pinpoint exactly what a generalized definition of personal freedom is and how to ensure it may
almost seem impossible . To me it is the human capability of expressing rational or irrational daily
decisions. Simple and can be very innocent ,but as innocent as it can be it is also subject to some of
the most, ruthless , selfish, heartless decisions. But no matter the choices and decisions one would
make, they will carry a weight of consequences, good or bad. Anarchy with no hierarchy would
without a doubt ensure what is needed to obtain one's personal freedom, along with the freedom to
steer consequences into one's favor.

7. Personal Narrative : Freedom Day
The blinding light of the new day woke me up through the same window as it had for the past three
months. The same room, the same bed and the same house I have been waking up to for so long
waited for me to rise for the day ahead. Everyone around knew what was happening. It had been
long anticipated by everyone in the facility. It is known around here as "Freedom Day". No longer
will I be trapped and helpless or be told what my every action will be (well at least not by anyone
here). I am crossing through those gates, which have contained me for ninety days. I am still in
shock from relief and happiness from what is happening. I am finally going to be able to eat food I

My mom was also sitting quietly as she drove. I there was a silent conversation going on between
us. A conversation that communicated to us that things were going to be rough for a while well I'm
away. It was painful to see the grief on my mother 's face, but we knew it was for the best. That was
the first day I started to feel something again in a long time. Jumping back to the present, I hopped
out of bed and dressed quickly. I cannot wait to get out of here so I 'm starting the day as soon as
possible. As I opened my bedroom door my friends ran over and gave me lots of hugs. It only lasted
a minute though for the house manager once again for the billionth time reminded us to not
physically touch each other. I never liked the staff here, if I'm being honest. They were one of the
many things I will never miss about Sov (this is the nickname we have for the facility). They were
the babysitters of the houses. Barking orders around as if we are mindless drones to obey their
control. I guess you could say I am a rogue drone though. I never take crap from them. If they
thought they were better than us or that they were in charge I would make sure to show I wasn't
taking any of their shit. The clients here I will miss though. The kids here are your family while you

Acquiring Personal Freedom
On a cold January day, a performance broke all barriers. The crowd erupted as the curtains opened
to reveal the silhouette of a rock legend. The music initiated moves that seemed to defy explanation.
Long, sensuous legs captured the audience as they moved with lightning speed while voluptuous red
lips seemed to pour lyrics like a fountain. Some people were in shock about who was performing,
while some mystified by how the artist seemed to control the stage. The singer was creating
questions with every gyration during the unstoppable performance. No one, including me, could
believe what was happening on stage.

Some of them were nervous about the whole idea of putting on a dress. I definitely felt awkward
doing this, but I put on a front that was one of confidence to help them. The reason I appeared to
have it all together was that I knew if I showed any sign of nervousness or fear, everyone else would
see it and feel the same. After a few practices, we felt ready for the real thing.
Thursday morning began like all the others. The sun rose over the cold valley to reveal the fog rising
off the river. As I arrived at school, I felt relieved, mostly because I was finally able to escape the
constant screaming and giggling that blasted out of the little kids at the front of the bus. When I
entered the office, looks of intrigue showered over me as I placed my costume on the floor. The
morning seemed to last an eternity and the butterflies seemed to be getting thicker. To me, lunch was
tasteless and I was not able to stomach much of it since it was only an hour till' I was supposed to
"break a leg." When it was time to get ready, I grabbed my outfit and proceeded to the bathroom.
My sinuses became cauterized as I entered the bathroom to change. My mind was too busy
processing my nervous feelings that I did not notice two other people enter the bathroom until they
began to leave. With my entourage of clothing nearly masking my true gender, I stepped to the

The Last Bastion of Personal Freedom
A person up to date in today's society must acknowledge the importance and the parcticality of the
internet. Just as in other areas of society, personal freedoms are stretched to the very limit on this
modern invention, raising isuues in regards to what type of information the internet should be
allowed to broadcast. Since its inception, the internet has spawned overnight millionaires, served as
the new information medium, and even played host to some heinous crimes. The topic of greatest
concern though, is in how the people legislate the division between what is obscence and what is
allowable. The way that these issues are dealt with will shape the very form in which the internet

"The Internet is a unique forum in at least one regard: while other forms of communication such as
magazines or videos must be physically brought into a hostile jurisdiction, allowing you to choose
whether to do business there, the content of your adult website can be viewed by anyone anywhere
with a computer and Internet access. What this means for adult site webmasters is that it doesn't
matter where you, your pictures, or server are located – you risk prosecution if a prosecutor
anywhere views your adult website or home page and believes that the content is obscene." Perhaps
that in this respect, the internet does deserve legislation is regards to obscenity. For example, is it
fair that a man in Maine, who has followed to the best of his ability, the laws in that state in regards
to obscenity, is prosecuted for displaying what a man in Florida deems as obscene, where the state
laws regarding this issue are much more severe? In this day and age, people rely on the technology
world to provide an instant means of communication, the consequences of which are increasingly
being examined. Numerous people throughout history have been quoted as saying that children are
our most precious resource, and this fact is not any less true today. This country has a duty to protect

13. Personal Statement : ' Freedom Church
For my second analysis, I went to a church in my hometown of Paris, Texas called Freedom Church.
This church is a new non–denominational church that is trying to reach to the "de–churched and
unchurched" as their tag line says. They have only been operational now for less than a year, so they
are still trying to get new people to join their church. For this reason, this past Friday they put on a
huge Easter event for kids and adults that had games, dinner, and a worship service. I saw and
experienced some aspects of what non–denominational believe, and the freedom this church let
people have during worship. There were also many things that happened throughout the service that

Personally, I did not go into this part of the service with a good attitude because of the glow–in–the–
dark theme service. I did not see how this would aid my worship or improve it by any means, but I
still decided to go of course. The pastor was very inviting in the welcome and then showed a
worship video. I liked this video on worship because it helped get my mind in the right mindset that
I needed to be in for worship. Then the worship band came up and began the service very smooth.
There were a lot of lights directed at the band, and as we began worship it reminded me of what the
beginning of a concert would look like. In class we talked about how we do not worship to be a
show, but an acceptance of the invitation God has given us to worship Him. While worship began,
the thought of this conversation popped in my head as the lights started to flash transitioning into the
next song. As worship progressed, we continued singing more and more upbeat songs that were
mostly about the Spirit, and people started to respond more and more emotionally. I was able to
personally worship as freely as I wanted to, but the lights again started to actually distract me from
truly worshipping. It was very moving though to see people responding to the Holy Spirit by
kneeling, praying, and raising hands. The worship leader was also very expressive of his emotions
during the service. This occurrence also made me think

17. The Role of Government and Personal Freedoms Essay
When the leaders of the American Revolution began their journey of independence, they revolted
against the increasingly totalitarian monarchy of King George III. Representatives from across the
colonies met numerous times to discuss the intrusive and burdensome policies implemented by the
British Government, and to unify their efforts to have the government address their grievances. After
numerous overtures were spurned by the British Government, the colonial leadership embarked on a
path of overt defiance against a government which they believed no longer held the right to govern.
In this struggle the founders of the United States answered the important generational question,

While a small of amount of incidental injustice is tolerable in any form of government, it is
important that government should contain an ideological focus on maintaining the maximum
number of negative rights among individuals within the state fairly and equally. Whenever the state
systemically undermines the rights of a large segment of the population, people have the right to
protest against any laws or institutional structures which perpetuates injustice. Although protesting
and disobedience to laws are morally justifiable, the scope in which people are allowed to rebel
against government must be proportional to the injustice committed. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter
from a Birmingham Jail provides a useful framework to explain under what condition a law is
"unjust" and should be disobeyed. In his letter, King Jr. argues that an unjust law is, "any law that
degrades human personality . . . is a code that a numerical or power majority group compels a
minority group to obey but does not make binding on itself . . . [or] a law [that] is just on its face and
unjust in its application" (King Jr.). By utilizing King Jr.'s criteria, people can determine if the
preconditions exist for the consent to be governed. Another important condition that a government
must ensure in order to receive consent to be government is its adherence to the protection of third
party interests to fully protect the rights and freedoms of individuals from

21. Personal Narrative: Operation Enduring Freedom
While this story can't be qualified as a vacation; it was a six–month journey of being a member of
the American military. Living in and interacting, and understanding the culture of a foreign country
is quite a task. Learning how to conduct yourself around the local population assuming they are not

modern times, it's especially important to me because of my love of history and realizing that
Afghanistan was a very modern place prior to war taking hold during the 1970s and beyond. It
saddens me to the loss of history through conflict of such a beautiful country. My unit I was

23. Personal Freedom in Leviathan and Candide Essay
The basis of Leviathan relies upon a theoretical readjustment of the state of social affairs. Candide,
on the other hand, is that state of social affairs. Whereas Hobbes's Leviathan relates that of how the
state of human nature can be changed and adapted to a desirable social order, Voltaire's Candide
shows the difficulty of being within the sorry state of the human experience. But where does the
concept of personal freedom come into play within these two basic premises? And how can a person
compare such highly different interpretations of the spectrum of personal experience?
Hobbes has presented to the reader a geometric and organized map of an ideal governing situation.
Man is a product of nature. But the interpretation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be taken into account that Candide is by no means a scientific geography of human
existence like that of Hobbes's work. It is, rather, a satire of the human experience. The character
Candide is, initially, sickeningly optimistic. He and his educator, Pangloss, observe a strict
adherence to the philosophy of Leibniz. Pangloss, in a oddly cheery mood declares his philosophy:
It is clear, said he, that things cannot be otherwise than they are, for since everything is made to
serve an end, everything necessarily serves the best end... Consequently, those who say everything is
well are uttering mere stupidities; they should say everything is for the best (Voltaire 2).
Here is the basic satirical idealism of the beginning of Candide. Candide and Pangloss look for the
best in all life situations (Pangloss quite comically claims that although the new world brought
syphilis, it brought chocolate as well). Yet, Candide, after being thrown out by the baron, is forced
into a series of events that will slowly change his opinion of life and force him to reexamine the cost
of personal freedom. Being thrown into the midst of horrible events like civil war, Candide comes
face to face with the ugly state of nature, a nature not unlike the uncivilized State of Nature in
Leviathan. There is still that right to survival, and this is

25. The Importance Of Personal Freedoms In The Workplace
As people have become more self aware and active about exercising their personal freedoms, it has
brought about discussions as to how their freedoms can be limited. In the workplace employees have
been in a state of disagreement as to the extent in which their employers can restrict their expression
of opinions. When a person chooses to signs an employer's contract that person is legally bound to
those beliefs and morals that the company withholds. In order to bring peace and settlement to this
topic, legal limits and guidelines must be set and enforced so justice can be established. It is the
employer's responsibility to declare boundaries, communicate them, and enforce discipline when
those boundaries are crossed. If an employer has set values that he or she wants to be displayed in
the company, then boundaries must be established upfront for employees to use as a guideline. In
America "the constitution's right to free speech only applies when the government is trying to
restrict it" (Bussing). Employers legally have the right to restrict expression of thoughts while
employees are at work. An employee of a company is set to represent the views of the employer's
mission statements and core values. It is important for boundaries to be set because "employees who
act contrary to those values in public will reflect poorly on the company and possibly cause loss of
revenue" (Watson 5). People who have agreed to work with a company must be aware of their
actions both on

Upon little sleep, I was successful in passing my exam and completing my essay with very high

29. Napalm Girl: The Strength Of Personal Freedom
Music is the weapon of choice in the year of 1991, where independence is given and our freedoms
are formed. The strength of personal freedom is what allows us to value our independence. We tend
to realize that our strength gives us the ability to create an art form, which captures the stories we
want to be heard or told. These un–told stories are what tell us the best and worst parts of the world
we live in today.
In today's society there are many stories that need to be heard, which leads me to my first example,
is a photo taken by photographer Nick Ut called Napalm Girl. This picture is taken in 1972 during

children around her are crying and walking or running away from the horror. These children are also

33. Personal Freedom And Its Impact On Society
Individuality and excessive personal freedom does not threaten a harmonious, productive society as
a matter of fact it improves society as a whole. If everyone was exactly the same, then there could
not be an advancement in society because there is no exchange in ideas since all ideas are the same.
A difference in ideas is important because it helps us learn from each others mistakes and
achievements and improve upon from them in future generations to come. Personal freedom is
another important aspect because it gives us a chance as a society to explore the world around us. If
we had our freedoms majorly restricted, humans would be unable to comprehend how the world
around them actually works because they would believe whatever the leaders in their society tell
them and the population in that community would follow through on whatever they said without
much critical thinking. Personal freedom is important to a productive society because it would
introduce a more intelligent group of people capable of thinking for themselves, if we have a lot of
individuals who are capable of thinking analytically we could have a more productive society that
can discover new ways to make the Earth a better place for all of its inhabitants. As humans, we are
all born differently whether it be from physical appearance, national origin, gender, ect. This piece
of diversity is important to society because it gives us all a chance to learn from other perspectives

writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to
survive as individuals". Having the ability to write is a privilege that majority of Americans have
and still to this day take this privilege for granted. While an average American may think writing is
an unbearable task, there are prisoners who consider writing as a form of freedom that helps them
escape the harsh realities of prison. According to "Criminal Justice In America" by George F. Cole,
Cole discusses how the incarceration quota is regularly increasing while the reported crime rates are
decreasing. This is due to the amount of crime that is not being documented and that is called the
dark figure of crime.
When talking about prison rates, not many people ask what happens when the inmates get out of
prison or what are the chances of them returning. About 68 percent of inmates return to prison
within a three year span after their release (Neyfakh). What happens to those who do not return to
prison? What motivated them to not want to return? It is simple answer, writing. Studies have shown
that when an inmate is exposed to various writing programs that educate them, they have a higher
chance of improving their way of life and lowering their chances of returning to prison (Maher 86).

Places, where most people are employed, have a conducive atmosphere to live regarding security
and advanced infrastructures. In an economically free nation, people have increased levels of
innovation and creativity since they do not worry that their ideas will be sour due to the harsh
policies that are meant to collect more revenue to the government. The increase in innovative levels
will lead to the nation enjoying the positive impacts of developed and advanced technology.
In the absence of the economic freedom, all other freedoms become any source of conflict between
the government and her citizens. The patterns of economic liberty are diverse touching all the
unique cultures and history of the inhabitants and the geographical location of the individuals. The

America's freedom. Without the Bill of Rights we wouldn't have freedom of religion, freedom of

community built for people so that they have no freedom and no individual thoughts. Everyone is

He cried all night apparently."(pg.206) After examining the Utopia in "The Giver", I do not support
eliminating personal choice and freedom for a Utopia. One reason I believe in freedom and choice is
I believe individuals should choose their own jobs, unlike in "The Giver" where they cannot. If
people chose their own jobs, they are motivated to contribute to society. Some people chose jobs
that others may not because they get some personal benefit from it. Steve Jobs said," Your work is
going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe
is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet,
keep looking. Don't settle." Another reason I believe in personal freedom and choice is I believe in
the family unit and all that family means, unlike in "The Giver" where family is not truly a family.
Jonas desires love, but his family does not understand love. In my family my parents show me love
everyday in every action that they make. My mom and dad always listen about my day and give
advice if I ask for it. They always say,"I love you." In "The Giver", they banned those words. One

63. Personal Freedom In The Indispensable Opposition By Walter...
Walter Lippman writes on his beliefs on the subject of personal freedom in the article "The
Indispensable Opposition". The author draws from his personal knowledge and observations of
natural human interactions in order, to support the basis of his argument. He utilizes repetition of the
word freedom, an abrasive tone, and day to day natural occurrences in order to stimulate the reader
into thinking about freedom overall and how it effects themselves as a common human being.
Lippmann also uses Voltaire's enlightenment ideas to provide a rebuttal to Lippmann's ideas which
he successfully argues in order to make his opinions seem more correct. All of these strategies help
to convince the reader that freedom is taken for granted and selfishly abused when another being
displays an opinion that we don't agree with.
A useful tactic that Lippman uses throughout his article is repetition. The word that he mostly
repeats is the word "freedom". He constantly reminds the audience that there is "freedom of speech,
freedom of opinion, freedom of discussion" "because freedom of discussion improves our own
opinions". He utilizes this specific strategy in order to create a prominent image of freedom within
the reader and draw out the reader's personal feelings on freedom and overarchingly connect the
audience back to the central idea of the article. Lippman establishes his argument immediately,
which makes it seem simple and direct to the reader even though it is actually quite

Around the time I was getting settled into sophomore year at Memorial, I got my driver's license.
The freedom of driving alone was awesome but having my license was beneficial since I had an off–

because I was inexperienced and I was driving a nice truck which was my first car. Eventually, I felt
more relaxed and I started to gain confidence behind the wheel. This false sense of confidence
caused the biggest and definitely the most expensive mistake I have made in my entire life. One
Tuesday in October, I was headed home from school with my older sister and a fellow golf
teammate. We were on the way to our house in order for me to change into golf clothes and pick my
car up so that my sister would not need to drive us to practice. I quickly changed clothes and threw
my clubs in the bed, eager to get to practice on time to save myself from running extra on that
Friday. My teammate and I got into the car and took off down the street towards his house. I came
up on Memorial Drive while having a conversation with Johnny, my teammate. I thought solely
about the conversation and not where I was going and I took a right. Johnny immediately spat, "Oh,

Search for Personal Freedom Song of Solomon
Personal freedom is the ability to ignore societal and familial influences to find the true sense of
self. Individuals are truly liberated when they are physically, mentally, and spiritually free. The
search for personal freedom is exemplified in Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. The main
protagonist, Milkman achieves personal freedom through attainment of knowledge, by confronting
his family, and by overcoming the prejudices of society.
Knowledge is a primary factor in the attainment of personal freedom. This includes not only
scholarly education but also awareness of historical heritage and familial legacy. The fact that

However, he eventually realizes that money will not satisfy what is missing from his life. He
therefore, begins his search for his sense of self. Milkman metamorphosizes after his journey into
his ancestral history which gave him the means to become personally free.
A second element essential for personal freedom is the ability to break familial ties that hinder or
restrain us on our individual journeys. Milkman had the courage to leave his family to discover his
sense of self. Everyone is affected by childhood events, but it is important that these incidents do not
prohibit us from discovering our true selves. David Willbern in "Reading After Freud" states that "
[p]atterns of expectation, satisfaction and frustration in early life provide templates for the gradual
construction and emergence of self" (Willbern 160). Milkman aspires to evolve from their childhood
nightmares to actualize their personal freedom.
Although Milkman lived in the Twentieth–Century and is not physically a slave, he is repressed by
his family. Milkman's parents love him; however, Morrison refers to their love as an "anaconda
love" as they squeeze the life out of Milkman and leave little room for growth and maturity. Ruth
Dead is so possessive of Milkman that she continues to breast–feed him long after he should have
been weaned as "his legs [were] dangling almost to the floor" (Morrison 13). When Freddie caught

There are so many different ways one can write a song. They can put their emotion into it, or they
may, however, be influenced by another person in their life and want to write a song about it. I, for
instance, find it hard to express myself and talk to people, but I have figured out that through writing
songs, I can express myself with no problem. When people come to understand me from songs that I

76. The Importance Of Personal Freedom In John Wyndham's The...
A society with incredibly strict religious beliefs will always put unto its citizens' undue restrictions
on personal freedom, that will in the end, undoubtedly, lead to a stagnant society, enmeshed in
despondency and hopelessness. In John Wyndham's The Chrysalids, those who do not strictly follow
Waknuk's religious beliefs are ostracized from society and have their personal freedoms restricted.
This is expressed in every single aspect of Waknukian society from the conflicts they have with
others, right down to the way they breathe, think, and look. Those restrictions manifest themselves
in many ways, from fines and jail time to exile, sterilization, and even death. Thus, restrictions on
personal freedoms resulting from prescribing to strict religious beliefs, are so pervasive in John
Wyndham's The Chrysalids that the idea can be shown in a multitude of ways including character
development, foreshadowing, and conflict. The character development of Sally, Katherine, and Petra
shows how their freedom to live normal lives has been taken away by the Waknukians in order to
strictly adhere to their religion. Firstly, because of Waknuk's religious beliefs, Katherine and Sally's
characters have developed from that of strong independent young women to broken down and dead
shells. As Wyndham writes, "'...Katherine's been unconscious so long we're wondering if she's –

Contraception: A Personal Choice for Freedom or a Responsibility
In 2015, the public opinion and landscape of family planning and contraceptive choices has changed
dramatically when compared to just fifty years ago. In 1950 the number of un–wanted pregnancies
was extremely high, especially among the poor and teenagers. Then some twenty years later,
America was introduced to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired
Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The very real scare of these fatal sexually transmitted
diseases combined with the increased number of teenage pregnancies has helped force the nation to
re–think its position about what was once such a controversial subject that was for so long
considered private and discussed behind closed doors. Unfortunately however, there are still a large
number of unplanned pregnancies, especially among teenagers and the number of people who
contract sexually transmitted diseases (STD) can still be measured at widespread proportions.
One could suggest from the data available that the cause of this epidemic rests mainly within poor
urban communities, in generations of families where parenthood and sexual activity is much more
commonly accepted at a young age. However, that is simply not true. Overall people today are much
more informed about their sexual health and their responsibility to practice sex safely. Yet there still
appears to be a disconnect between people being informed and moving to action. There are a wide
