this war due to the amount of money borrowed from other countries. This went on until about the
early 1970s, the "American Dream" was going on during this era and it was in perfect timing.

Jazz dancing has a unique history and has been influenced by many other dance styles and
techniques. Like jazz music, its roots can be found in African and slave traditions. It then took
inspiration from the tap, Minstrel shows, vaudeville, swing, and Broadway. Consequently, the styles
associated with jazz dancing change regularly.
When African slaves in the 1800s were traveling to America, they were allowed to dance to sustain
their fitness. Such dances proceeded when they arrived at the plantations on which they worked in
South America. Amid the early 1900s, this contributed to black Americans to lead the jazz
movement. The movement quickly spread to the audience and public, resulting in the development
of dances like the Charleston, Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie and Swing.
Jack Cole was one of the greatest individual influencers of jazz dance, as we know it today. He was
a choreographer and theatre director born in 1911, and is sometimes referred to as "the father of jazz

Latin–American, modern dancing, and ballet (Giordano, Gus 50).One of Jerome's most famous
Broadway musical's was "West Side Story". This particular musical went on and won 10 Academy

Stereotypes
In Max Shulman's, "Love is a Fallacy", the author conveys various stereotypes and reveals prevalent
fallacies in both genders, men and women. Shulman presents an anti–women theme by writing
common deceptions based on women's personality, but also indicates an anti–man presence, as seen
throughout the short story. Shulman states, "The successful lawyers I had observed were, almost
without exception, married to beautiful, gracious, intelligent women. With one omission, Polly fitted
these specifications perfectly" (Shulman 366). The quote seen above exposes the stereotype in
which the "perfect" woman is needed to marry highly rated men, such as the lawyers observed by

The last example shows another stereotype aimed towards women. Shulman states, "My job was
done. She was worthy of m at last. She was a fit wife for me, a proper hostess for my many
mansions, a suitable mother for my well–heeled children" (Shulman 371). The quote relates to the
first example about having the qualified wife for the all–powerful man, but it even goes far enough
into calling the woman in this case, Polly, the proper hostess and suitable mother. It is clear to see
that the role of women were to serve the man and take sole responsibility of everything.
Additionally, Shulman also illustrates some evidence of anti–man throughout the short story. For
instance, when the narrator states, "How could you choose Petey Bellows over me? Look at me –
brilliant student, a tremendous intelligence, a man with an assured future. Look at Petey – a
knothead, a jitterbug, a guy who'll never know where his next meal is coming from" (Shulman 372).
When Polly rejects the protagonist, he then angrily goes on to state why she would choose a man
like Petey over him. The adjectives used to describe Petey are harsh in attempt to defame

Throughout American history and the 1900's, fads have been a hugely successful form of self
expression. From fashion, to recreation, to dumb and sometimes dangerous things that youths do,
fads are a way to distract from the troubles of the world and find something else fun to do. The first,
and best known fads were in the 1920's with flapper style, speakeasies, and flagpole sitting. Flapper
style was rather simple; short, boyish hair, flat chests and long beaded gowns. Due to Prohibition, or
making liquor and alcoholic beverages illegal, speakeasies were popular; underground, secret bars
requiring a password. The long skirts helped women bootleg (or smuggle) the liquor. The term
"bootlegging" comes from tying bottles to one's leg to smuggle it. Another fad was flagpole sitting.

Teenagers and college students all over America participated in telephone booth stuffing, panty
raids, and dance–a–thons. Telephone booth stuffing involved shoving as many people as possible
into a telephone booth, the more the better. This fad reached to South Africa, where the record for
most people in a telephone booth was set: 25 male students fit into a telephone booth at one time.
Panty raids were also invented in the 1950's when people (specifically men) would go into the
opposite sex's room and go through their drawers until finding a pair of underwear, which they

The Influence Of Swing Music In The 1930's
As the rest of the world suffered from the trauma that was bought by the Great Depression in 1930's
America, Jazz was at its all–time high. With the transition into the swing era, Jazz musicians and
Jazz listeners grew and transformed. The music, which now incorporated faster tempos, more band
members with more and different instruments, more solo improvisation and an overall "looser, less
rhythmic feeling", and swing music had become a new craze sought out by not only other jazz
musicians but dancers, and whites and blacks alike. Swing music was brought north during the
Great Migration were most Jazz musicians in New Orleans relocated to the north to escape Jim
Crow laws and racism in the south. These musicians mostly stayed in Harlem and influenced Jazz
music very much during this era. During the swing era, two types of bands arose in New York and

called Motorola and he was in a competition with his rival Joel Engel, who had worked for AT&T.
Whenever Cooper had made the first cellphone call in history, the person he had called was his rival
