more than 1,600
languages and dialects.
Among these 22
languages are included in
the eighth schedule of
Indian constitution.

used for official purpose
by the government.

People of India have
different kind of food
habits, dressing style,
dance form and
customs.
8. How did diversity emerge?
India has seen foreigners from various parts of the
world coming and settling down in India.
They brought with them their own customs and
practices.
Which combined with the prevalent traditions and
created a composite culture.
Example , the Mughals came from Central Asia
and established their kingdom in India.
They brought with them Persian language, which
merged with Hindi to give rise to a new language-
Urdu.
