Evolution Of Nba
When people think of basketball, they think of elite male players such as Michael Jordan, Lebron
James, Kobe Bryant, and Stephen Curry. Those people rarely think of talented female players such
as Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Elena Delle Donne, and Brittney Griner. Since the Women's
National Basketball Association (WNBA) first opened in 1996, the interest in professional sports for
women has increased. The creation of the WNBA has opened up a world of opportunities for
women who want to pursue their dream of playing professional basketball in the US. The WNBA
has overcome impossible odds to become successful, and has empowered women to strive and turn
their dreams into a reality. Former Commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA),
David Stern built the foundation for the WNBA. Stern's belief in creating a strong women's league
connected to the NBA, has made a tremendous difference in the sports world. The WNBA has
enabled women to continue living their dream of playing high–level, competitive basketball in the
United States. Upon opening, the WNBA sparked lots of excitement in 1996. Initially, the ... Show

This law prohibits gender discrimination in any education program or activity. Title IX has helped
women pursue their sports passions and make it into professional leagues all around the world.
Female participation in sports has exploded, but sports media has failed to show this drastic
increase. "With Title IX, the opportunity for girls in sports is such a blessing," says retired Track and
Field athlete, Jackie Joyner–Kersee. "I can never imagine the women who came before me, who
didn't have the same opportunities that I had." In schools there used to be huge educational
discrepancies between the genders. The opportunity to play sports has proven to have many benefits
for young women, including a lower teen pregnancy rate, increase in self esteem, and an increase in

Chris Herren was a professional Basketball player in the United States, and he played in several
leagues overseas. Chris Herren grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts. He attended Durfee High

college basketball teams in the nation. He ended up choosing Boston College because it was close to

During his high school career, no one wanted to believed that Chris had an addiction so no one
talked about it. Once Chris entered Boston College more expensive drugs were introduced to him.
Boston College was were he had his first line of cocaine. He then got addicted and he would have to
snort cocaine before his games and even practices. Drugs started to become a big part of his life.
When he eventually got drafted to the NBA by the Denver Nuggets, heroin and pills were
introduced to him. Chris would skip his warm ups because he would be waiting for his drug dealer
to deliver his drugs to him so he could take them before the game. After being released from the
NBA, he got offered a lot of money to play overseas. Playing overseas Chris's addiction became
much worse. Most nights Chris wouldn't be returning home to his wife and kids. Chris's wife was
scared for their kids and her own safety. Chris then returned back to the United States and was done
with playing basketball. Drugs became such a big part of Chris's life that he couldn't play basketball

Basketball Persuasive Research Paper
Basketball is my favorite sport over any other sport, and I'll let you know why. You can move with
elegance, style, and become a real unique player with moves you originated. Furthermore, there are
so many positions you can seek or try out for and if the position you really crave isn't open, coaches
will let you fight for your right to claim that certain spot. You have a opportunity to play with and
contest against other players in your caliber and to become a star. It's a great chance to partake in
stress relief. Finally, basketball has a lot to offer you, promising the spotlight if you work for it,
practices are hard but beneficial, and will set your future priorities straight if you're serious.
For instance, have you ever seen Dwyane Wade

Basketball Is More Than Just A Sport

Senior Project Basketball is more than just a sport Dwayne Wade was born January 17, 1982 in
Chicago, Illinois. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most
people don't know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA.
When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother.
Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is
where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a
star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play
for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn't play he still
practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the
NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All–star and
still is an all–star today. People who play basketball are affected in many positive ways by it.
African–Americans that come from low–income families and dangerous neighborhoods often play
basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to a better life and a cheaper
education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any other race. In 2008 African
Americans received twenty three percent of all athletic

History Of Phil Jackson
"NBA analysts give me some diagnostics on how 3pt oriented teams are faring this
playoffs...seriously, how's it goink?" Phil Jackson tweeted in May of 2015.
Many men came before Jackson in trying to resurrect a franchise in one of the largest markets in the
country. Each failed miserably. That was our context heading in.
Having all the information and historical data available at our fingertips, everyone knew there was
almost no way Jackson's marriage to the New York Knicks could have ended in anything other than
disaster. And still, a vast portion of us ignored that.
Jackson aged, poorly, and James Dolan had a history of doing less with more. It was a combination

If Michael Jordan is that crying meme fella, Phil Jackson is that old man on a bus who couldn't keep
pace with today's NBA landscape.
This is how the generation after the post–Jordan generation will remember him. They have no fond
memories to call back to. Jackson's once notorious and applauded approach of getting to his players
via the media are – through their eyes – viewed as an elderly fellow not being man enough to
confront his talent in person.
It isn't all bad news.
As much as people are in–the–moment prejudice, they are as quickly to move on to the next
trending topic. Phil Jackson getting fired from the Knicks is the it topic today, but the moment
another public figure does something notable, a basketball loving nation will move on.
It gives Jackson a chance, indirectly, to be saved from himself. A fleeting, even if incredibly long
chance that a few decades from now he won't be remembered more for his bumbling front–office
career, but for the man who led Michael Jordan and the Bulls to six titles and the guy who corralled
the brutal Kobe–Shaq relationship to a handful more.
Jackson's story won't solely be told by media or fans. We like to believe the public has that much
influence, yet it is largely those with the biggest platforms who will have their voice heard loudest.
It will be players who will help in crafting his lasting memory on the sport. With many NBA stars

Martin Bryant Is Responsible For The Port Arthur Massacre
Martin Bryant
Martin John Bryant is an Australian mass murderer responsible for the Port Arthur Massacre in
1996. The Port Arthur Massacre was the third deadliest shooting by a lone gunman resulting in 35
deaths and 19 injuries. Bryant is currently serving 35 life sentences and 1035 years without parole in
Risdon Prison in Hobart, Tasmania.
Martin Bryant was the firstborn to Maurice and Carleen Bryant on the 17th of May, 1967 in
Tasmania. As a child, Bryant was described as "annoying" and "different", his anger being
unmanageable. It was said that he had once pulled the snorkel from another boy whilst diving and
cut down trees on a neighbour's property. Bryant was known as a troublemaker and was frequently
bullied in school. In 1977, Bryant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Legal And Non Legal Response To The Port Arthur Massacre
The port Arthur massacre happened in Tasmania in the year 1996. Martin Bryant was a 28 year old
man who was responsible, killing a total of 35 people and injuring 23 others. Martin Bryant pleaded
guilty to several counts of murder and received 35 life sentences without any possibility of parole.
In result of this event many legal and none legal responses arose surrounding the issue of gun laws
and safety. The newly elected Howard government introduced new gun laws in result of the port
Arthur massacre to ensure the safety of Australian citizens and to prevent anything like that ever
occurring again. The legal and non legal responses that occurred in regards to the port Arthur

port Arthur massacre created to reduce the risk of gun related deaths and murders in Australia. This
program resulted in the government buying back more than 660,000 guns from Australians. This
legal response was effective in the way that it greatly reduced private owners from being a harm to
themselves and others. The program also resulted in a 50% decrease in gun related deaths. Although
this program costed the Australian government around $500,000,000 dollars to offer and pay
compensation to every private gun owner where. This scheme was successful in using a fair method
of getting rid of guns within Australia but was unnecessary as the government could have

Symbols In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies
In the past three years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been an unstoppable force in the Eastern
Conference of the NBA. Led by arguably the best player ever, LeBron James, they have made three
straight finals appearances, winning the Cavs first NBA titles in 2016 on a game sealing three by
point guard Kyrie Irving. LeBron himself has been to seven straight NBA Finals so one could say he
knows the game well and is to be considered a teacher of the game to his younger teammates such
as Irving. Recently, Irving has decided to step away from the Cavaliers organization to join the
Boston Celtics because he no longer wanted to be in the so called "shadow" of James. Multiple
sources have spoken on Lebron's basketball IQ calling it part of the reason he is the best player right
now. Now that Kyrie has joined the Celtics he is leading his team based off things Lebron has
already taught him, but only time will tell how the season will go and if Kyrie can survive. In the
novel Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys become stranded on an island and have to use what
they know about civilization already and how to behave to try and survive on this island. William
Golding uses the symbols of face paint and pig hunts to show that someone who is civilized has
disguised human nature by adapting to society's etiquette. He also uses symbolic scenes such as
when Roger is throwing rocks at Henry.

Bill Bradley Leadership Qualities
To reiterate, Bill Bradley's virtues of leadership, hard work, and respect are what account most for
his accomplishment as a citizen athlete. Bradleys' first virtue is leadership. He was a leader on and
off the court, and he had this trait instilled in him since a little boy ("Bill Bradley." Biography). For
example, Bradley would always be the one who started communication on the court. "He spoke in
basketball terms that nevertheless underlined his basic principle." (Bradley 106). Another example
of Bill Bradley's leadership virtue was when he led his Princeton Tigers to a winning season ("Bill
Bradley'65."). For Bill, that accomplishment was not easy or given to him. He was on the rise and
everyone wanted to beat him. Everyone knew that he was an NBA prospect, but he kept his
composure and played to the best of his ability every single game. It did not matter who he was
playing, he gave it his all and made his teammates better. His teammates loved playing with him.
Bill displayed impeccable confidence. He always made the right decisions whether it was shooting
the last shot for the win or getting his teammates involved (Bradley 106). This was not only on the
court but his leadership carried into his post career. Bill was involved not only in sports, but he was
also the U.S Senates for New Jersey. He displayed tremendous patience through rigorous
campaigning. This shows that he wanted to help benefit values of our nation and come to a
conclusion that will place a smile on

Stephen Curry: The Perfect Basketball Player
I am going to try to persuade you in thinking that Stephen Curry is the best player in the NBA as of
right now. With the following arguments that that will be made in this argument.
He became the perfect basketball weapon, a force who can't be guarded and can be stopped only if
he stops himself. We all know about his great shooting and incredible range. But what separates
Curry is that he doesn't need off–the–ball movement and picks to create space for a shot. He has an
amazing ability to create his own space, and he doesn't even need that much, and he can shoot from
anywhere on the court, so the defense can't ease up or sit back, even from deep. The combination of
not needing a lot of space and having incredible range creates a huge problem for defenses.Whoever
is guarding Curry needs to respect Curry's range and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most striking improvements are to his eFG%, or effective field–goal percentage, which adjusts
field–goal percentage by giving more value to 3–pointers, and PER, or player efficiency rating,
which measures a player's overall production. Curry's 36.2 PER is 6.2 better than any other player's.
The league average is 15.
Not only is Curry making shots at a higher rate, but he is taking them from deep more often. Last
season, Curry led the NBA with 646 3–point attempts and 286 3–pointers made. This year, he is on
pace to shoot 884 3–pointers and make 401. Both would be NBA records by a mile, as no NBA
player has attempted 700 3–pointers in a season or made 300. He averaged 8.5 assists per 36
minutes over the past two seasons.
I know you can argue that lebron is better because his ability to drive and take over a game single
handedly, but Curry has by far been the best player in the league for 3 years now making it almost
impossible to guard and also winning the mvp in one of those years and most likely winning the

Lebron James has been through what most kids can't even imagine. Lebron grew up without a father

April 4, 2014 Lebron is the youngest player ever to reach 23,000 career points in the National

Lebron still thanks his mother for what she fought through to get him to where he is at now. Gloria
James was only 16 at the time she had Lebron, and Lebrons biological father, Anthony McClelland
was an ex–convict uninterested in being a parent, and he left Gloria to raise Lebron by herself. This
is why Lebron uses his mothers maiden name and not his father's last name. Gloria had many
personal problems and had trouble keeping a steady job. Gloria tried to give Lebron a good life she
just had struggles doing it. Gloria tried to give Lebron everything she could, at a young age Lebron
loved sports so she bought him a miniature basketball hoop. Lebron James struggled at school, and
at making friends because he was embarrassed about his home life; Lebron found a way to get away
from his home life with basketball and football. Lebron showed magnificent skills in basketball and

The Port Arthur Massacre : A Killing Spree By Martin...
The Port Arthur Massacre of 28th April 1996, was a killing spree by Martin Bryant at the historic
Port Arthur, in eastern Tasmania, Australia. This event saw the implementation of law reform for
gun control in both federal and state jurisdictions to remedy justice to future criminals. The media's
attention influenced change for future justice, establishment of political parties and charities led to
support for victims of crime as well as ensuring the protecting of constitutional rights. Prior to the
Port Arthur Massacre, Australia had very lenient gun laws. The massacre of 35 people with an
additional 23 wounded, pushed the then Prime Minister, John Howard, to reform the legislation
associated with guns. Since then, firearm related deaths have declined by 47% . However, these
statistics do not include illegally owned firearms, and there have been studies conducted showing
that these laws have not made a difference. For example, the University of Sydney found that
Australia owns as many guns now as we did during the time of the Port Arthur Massacre, even
though, due to amnesties and buybacks, there has been more than 1 million weapons destroyed since
1996 . Although, as Greg Cary, reporter at 4BC, stated the: "Buyback and amnesty were about
getting rid of the kinds of weapons that were used at Port Arthur" . Nevertheless, the legislation was
created so the community would feel safe. For example, the Government Buy–Back scheme, during
1996, was a compulsory surrender of

Boston Crunch Rivalry
In the NBA, it's no new news that the Cleveland Cavaliers star, Lebron James, and the players in the
history of the Boston Celtics organization are big longtime rivals. This rivalry goes as far back as
2007. In 2007 a major shift in NBA History happened when star Lebron James left the Cleveland
Cavaliers to go join stars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat. This happened because
star Lebron James felt as if the Cavaliers GM was not helping the team enough, as they could not
get past the Boston Celtics in the playoffs. As Lebron went to Miami he was able to win two back to
back championships in the four years he was there. This made things worse for the Boston Celtics.

The Unorthodox Restoration Of A Tarnished Image
I. Introduction
The Unorthodox Restoration of a Tarnished Image is an interesting topic when dealing with
professional athletes. Lebron James is currently in his 14th season in the National Basketball
Association (NBA). He spent his first seven seasons playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, just 39
miles from his hometown, Akron. After the 2009–2010 NBA season, James decided not to resign his
contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and instead sign a contract with the Miami Heat. This
decision led to James joining forces with other NBA superstars such as Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade,
and Ray Allen. Later to become known as "The Decision," James' image was tarnished for the way
he abandoned his hometown team and became the villain of the NBA. ... Show more content on

The paths that these athletes took were both similar and different from James'.
The thesis will take an in–depth look on the journey of Lebron James. From the beginning days in
Akron, the fame of his early days in Cleveland, to his villain days in Miami and back up the
mountain to being a hero in Cleveland, it will all be discussed. Lebron James is not only a once in a
life–time type of athlete, but once in a life–time person and businessman as well. The tactics and
lessons one can learn from his strategies are infinite.
II. Beginning of the Brand The story of Lebron is known by many, but those who see the famous
professional athlete with a superstar status usually do not know what he came from. On December
30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, Lebron Raymone James was born. His mother, Gloria James, was only 16
years old at the time and his father, Anthony McClelland, was an ex–convict with zero interest in
becoming a parent. With Gloria struggling from addiction and never keeping a steady job, she and
Lebron moved from apartment to apartment during his childhood. In the fourth grade, Lebron
moved in with his township football coach, Frankie Walker (JockBio, 2016). Life was not easy for
James growing up, but he was lucky enough to have others surrounding him to help him rise. He
played basketball at Saint Vincent Saint Mary's High School where he would become a legend. A

Sacred Hoops
Phil Jackson coached the Chicago Bulls basketball team to one of the longest winning streaks in
professional sports. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of
acknowledged stars. He clearly understands that simply collecting a set of outstanding players does
not a championship team make. One way of understanding his approach is to think of every problem
or project having components in four different spheres:
1. Mental, logical, scientific, technical
2. Systems or how the parts all connect and interact
3. Emotional, feelings, intuition
4. Ethical, spiritual and issues of being.

Following a career as a player Jackson applied his understanding to coaching basketball teams. You
can't expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering
individuals – even superstars – to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they
can and can't change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the
moment, instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow
players are some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players.
Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but
clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with
the high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his
practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions
to all sorts of problems – the Tao of Authority leads him.
Zen is life, so why not let the eightfold path lead you to a method of coaching basketball? Even if
'right action means calling it quits' sometimes and it involves losing. As Jackson says, "I used to
believe that the day I could accept defeat was the day I would have to give up my job. But losing is
as integral a part of the dance as winning. Buddhism teaches us that by accepting death, you
discover life. Similarly, only by acknowledging the

What Is The Results Of The ILP To Real Games
How we transformed the statistics on the NBA website to the data required for our calculations can
be found in Appendix t1.1 (for the maximum of all NBA teams) and t1.2 (for specific NBA teams).
The specific data used in the ILP's are in Appendix t1.3.
To compare the results of the ILP to real games, we used statistics from the Golden State Warriors,
the Dallas Mavericks, the Indiana Pacers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers
highest scoring game of the 2016–2017 season. This data is available on the NBA website under
"Stats" filtered by "Box Scores", dates, and quarters. We used these statistics to get the number of
2PA and 3PA per quarter j and compared to the results of the ILP.

(2) Comparing the results of our ILP compare to real life: – Our ILP produces objective values close
to but slightly lower than the maximum number of points scored in one game for all five teams. A
table of these results can be found in Appendix t1.5. The low objective values can most likely be
attributed to the volatility of the $c_{i,j}$ variables, which are based off of the teams average 2–
point and 3–point shot percentages. It is reasonable to assume that the teams had higher 2–point and
3–point percentages than average in the game where they scored the most points, accounting for the
higher total points scored compared to the ILP. This is discussed further in section 6 (Obstacles
Encountered So Far). – Comparing the $x_{i,j}$ used to obtain the objective value for the ILP for a
selected team and the actual number of iPA per quarter j from the highest scoring game for the same
team in the 2016–2017 season shows that the Golden State Warriors, who had the highest average
number of points per game last season, followed a fairly similar game plan to that calculated by the
ILP (r1.1). Graphs showing this are found in Appendix g1.1 – 1.3. On the other hand, the Dallas

The Talent Code Persuasive Analysis
What is it mean, to have greatness? Greatness is a word, that people use to describe someone or
something over a period of time to be the best in the world. But we ask ourselves how do we
cultivate expertise to achieve greatness? In the book, "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle and Kobe
Bryant documentary "Muse" expressed how deep practice and how failing can make you achieve
greatness and cultivate expertise. Throughout their arguments, they both express uses and limits of
their arguments on how is expertise is developed and cultivating greatness. In the book, "The Talent
Code" by Daniel Coyle, he theorized that deep practice can bring you to the sweet spot, which can
make learning stick. According to Mr. Coyle, "deep practice is a way of attentive practicing which
closely resembles deliberate practice." This is basically practicing when you are truly an expert in
your craft. One example that Mr. Coyle used to express that idea is a boy named Brunio trying to
practice a move called elastico . According to the the story, "The Talent Book" it states "The first
time we watch Brunio try the move he fails, then stops and thinks.....Then something clicks, he
started nailing the move."(13) This is a perfect example of deep practice, because Brunio was
practicing the move and when he fails he would stop and think of how he should perform the move..
He would keep trying until it clicked and started performing the move. This is deep practice,

Logos, Ethos, And Pathos Appeals
In our everyday lives, we are constantly overwhelmed by marketing and advertising in numerous
forms. Whether it 's a commercial, billboard, poster, flier, online networking, or anyplace a man
looks, he or she will regularly see some type of advertisement. These advertisements employ a
variety of schemes with a specific goal to catch our attention and ideally spend our cash on the item
or service. In addition to that, special materials like posters and billboards try to impart a message to
society. Each print advertisement or commercial conveys a particular message that is connected with
the marketing objective of the advertiser. These different forms of advertisement convey their
messages through logos, ethos, and pathos appeals. A particular ad by Nike communicates its
message through these particular methods of persuasion in their "WHERE LEGENDS ARE
MADE." ad. The overall Nike ad is rather simple. The printed ad depicts NBA player LeBron
James, donned in Nike apparel, centered on the ad in mid–dunk. LeBron's left arm has been partially
made into a cartoon. To the left of the ad there is a quote that says, "WHERE LEGENDS ARE
MADE." Underneath the quote is the widely known Nike check. The entire image color is along a
grayscale, with the background being pitch black. The central argument of this ad is rested on the
quote, which insists that Nike creates legends. Because the ad is so direct in its message, the logos

Stereotypes In The NBA
What is a stereotype? In my definition it can be a term used to classify an object or thing, maybe
even a person. A stereotype can be a person who has little knowledge of something or none at all.
There are a lot of different stereotypes out there. For example, "White men can't jump" is one used
in sports such as basketball. This can be a stereotype to people who have never witnessed a white
man dunk a basketball. Larry Bird was arguably one of the best basketball players in the history of
the NBA with many awards and achievements to prove it. He was indeed a white man therefore,
counterpointing the stereotypical phrase, "white men can't jump." Just like this one, there are many

While living here I have heard stereotypes talking about the intelligence of farmers, rancher, etc.
I've heard stereotypes on how we talk and have our own kind of "northern drawl" if you would say.
One stereotype that I see to be overused is that North Dakotans are "uneducated hicks." In my own
opinion, I do not find this insulting because the people who usually believe in the stereotype have
never actually been to North Dakota. The reason people use this stereotype for one reason could be
that they saw it on movies or shows. The movie Fargo is one of them. In this story they portray the
actors as normal looking people but the way they talk and act is different. Using a sort of Canadian
accent along with English to show the difference of regular and us. This doesn't necessarily mean
they are uneducated but because they talk different than it seems as though they are.
To summarize, stereotypes are everywhere and will most likely not go away. Stereotypes on race,
gender, where you live, countries, and almost anything that can be classified. The stereotype on
North Dakotans being "uneducated hicks" is a vague opinion of people who know nothing about
North Dakota or the people. While living here I have gotten a great education and plan on a
successful career in the future. In doing that I can still go hunting, fishing, and do all the things

basketball. Michael Jordan was first drafted into the NBA by the Chicago Bulls as the third pick in
the first round of the NBA draft of 1984, after finishing his college career at the University of North
Carolina. Michael Jordan has been known for his high flying and stylish dunks ever since he first
stepped into the basketball scene, but there is more to Michael Jordan than his dunking abilities.
Michael Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls from 1984 to 1998 winning six NBA championships
from 1991–1993 and 1996–1998. His was also awarded Most Valuable Player award in 1988, 1991,

Why Should College Athletes Be Required To Stay In College

tournaments and Prep Schools getting them ready for the next level, there is much young basketball
talent that is considered "NBA ready" within their first year of college. College basketball players
should be required to stay in college for at least three years. With all the hype surrounding them to
become young superstars, some athletes and members of NBA front offices don't realize how
important two or three more years of college could be to them. The NCAA has a rule like this set on
college football players, so the rule for basketball shouldn't be any different. These extra three years

Schooling is very important to NBA athletes for numerous reasons. A degree could save an athlete
from becoming bankrupt if he cannot become successful in the NBA. It would give that athlete the

Summary Of Rising Tide : Bear Bryant, Joe Namath
The title of my book is Rising Tide: Bear Bryant, Joe Namath, and Dixie 's Last Quarter it is a
biography written by Randy Roberts & Ed Krzmienski. Throughout the years of the civil rights
movement, this story took place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1957, where Bear Bryant was
announced as the new head coach of the University of Alabama. The two main characters are Joe
Namath and Paul "Bear" Bryant.
The theme of this book is about the legendary coach Paul Bryant and how he helped Joe Namath
overcome the struggle of segregation on and off the football field. Considering the relationship of
the athlete and coach during golden era of the game, it addresses the losses, the commitment, and
the determination in becoming one of the nation 's elite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite him playing in the southern conference Namath kept his distances from that pelage
conditions of segregation in the south. Meanwhile, he did not look, speak or behave like Bryant 's
other boys, and it was not just because he was a northerner.
Even though his head coach Bear Bryant acknowledged Namath 's greatness, Bryant was no
coddler, frequently drawing Namath from games after bad performances. Coach Bryant told all of
his players that no starting spots were given based on reputation. Bryant had a gaze that was
challenging to meet, the penetrating intensity that made a man terrified to look into his eyes directly
because it might be defined as a challenge, and afraid to look away because it might be considered
as a lack of resolve. There was nothing about Coach Bryant that showed a sign of softness or
suggested he couldn 't kick the ass of any man within hollering range. Bear was in a foul state of
mind and had been for quite a while.
Coming to Alabama had taken a toll on Coach Bryant significantly, and cash was the slightest of it.
The chain occasions that incited his turn from Texas A&M started a long way from the football
field. In February 1956, following a three–year court fight, Autherine Lucy, a college alum from
Shiloh, Alabama, became the first African American student to go to the University of Alabama. Her
appearance on campus incited a progression of dissents, going from marches and addresses to
savagery. Despite the fact that she got

Michael Jordan And Kobe Bryant On Equal Footing With The...
Michael vs Kobe
The great Michael Jordan once said "To many players in today 's NBA, Bryant stands on equal
footing with the player he patterned his game after." (http://www.foxsports.com/) I find it
authentically interesting that if you ask Kobe Bryant he will willing confess to attempting to
replicate Michael Jordan's exclusive playing style. When Kobe was questioned concerning the
allegations in regards to Kobe stealing MJ's style of play this was his rebuttal "as a kid growing up
in Italy, all I had was video, so I studied everything," Bryant said. "I studied every player. Then once
I came back to the States, and I realized I wasn 't going to be 6–9, I started studying Michael
exclusively." (http://www.cbssports.com/) The father–son sort of rivalry between Michael Jordan

But the Warriors proved his hypothesis as incorrect, when they beat the all–time record for wins in a

justified in the 2016 offseason, when the Warriors were able to persuade superstar Kevin Durant, to
join the Warriors and assemble a star–studded lineup that had the capability to rival even the Dream
Team. The man who enabled the Warriors to gain such a dominant team was general manager, Bob
Myers. He was a lawyer who grew up watching Warrior's basketball, and eventually landed the
general manager position. His passion as a fan and intelligent decision making on players is what
led the Warriors on their path to success. This is also supported in Upper Echelons in Professional

suggest that younger GMs are more likely to suggest innovative strategies than their older
counterparts" (Juravich 471). This was seen whenever he didn't trade Klay Thompson for Kevin
Love, and drafted bottom tier players like Draymond, who both play vital roles in the organization's
success. Because all the players on the Warriors knew their role on the team, it gives rise to perfect
execution and communication, which allowed them to wipe out their opponents. This was also

of just about every close game, everyone watching knows that Michael Jordan is taking the ball to
take the last shot, and with some deadly precision. He has made over 25 game winning shots in his
career, all with the same amount of greatness (Is Michael Jordan the Greatest). One of the greatest

Evolution Of Nba

  • 1. Evolution Of Nba When people think of basketball, they think of elite male players such as Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Stephen Curry. Those people rarely think of talented female players such as Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Elena Delle Donne, and Brittney Griner. Since the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) first opened in 1996, the interest in professional sports for women has increased. The creation of the WNBA has opened up a world of opportunities for women who want to pursue their dream of playing professional basketball in the US. The WNBA has overcome impossible odds to become successful, and has empowered women to strive and turn their dreams into a reality. Former Commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA), David Stern built the foundation for the WNBA. Stern's belief in creating a strong women's league connected to the NBA, has made a tremendous difference in the sports world. The WNBA has enabled women to continue living their dream of playing high–level, competitive basketball in the United States. Upon opening, the WNBA sparked lots of excitement in 1996. "I can never imagine the women who came before me, who didn't have the same opportunities that I had." In schools there used to be huge educational discrepancies between the genders. • 3. Basketball Persuasive Research Paper Basketball is my favorite sport over any other sport, and I'll let you know why. You can move with elegance, style, and become a real unique player with moves you originated. Furthermore, there are so many positions you can seek or try out for and if the position you really crave isn't open, coaches will let you fight for your right to claim that certain spot. You have a opportunity to play with and contest against other players in your caliber and to become a star. It's a great chance to partake in stress relief. Finally, basketball has a lot to offer you, promising the spotlight if you work for it, practices are hard but beneficial, and will set your future priorities straight if you're serious. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most people don't know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA. When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother. Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn't play he still practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All–star and still is an all–star today. People who play basketball are affected in many positive ways by it. African–Americans that come from low–income families and dangerous neighborhoods often play basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to a better life and a cheaper education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any other race. Many men came before Jackson in trying to resurrect a franchise in one of the largest markets in the country. Each failed miserably. That was our context heading in. Having all the information and historical data available at our fingertips, everyone knew there was almost no way Jackson's marriage to the New York Knicks could have ended in anything other than disaster. If Michael Jordan is that crying meme fella, Phil Jackson is that old man on a bus who couldn't keep pace with today's NBA landscape. This is how the generation after the post–Jordan generation will remember him. They have no fond memories to call back to. Jackson's once notorious and applauded approach of getting to his players via the media are – through their eyes – viewed as an elderly fellow not being man enough to confront his talent in person. It isn't all bad news. As much as people are in–the–moment prejudice, they are as quickly to move on to the next trending topic. Phil Jackson getting fired from the Knicks is the it topic today, but the moment another public figure does something notable, a basketball loving nation will move on. It gives Jackson a chance, indirectly, to be saved from himself. A fleeting, even if incredibly long chance that a few decades from now he won't be remembered more for his bumbling front–office career, but for the man who led Michael Jordan and the Bulls to six titles and the guy who corralled the brutal Kobe–Shaq relationship to a handful more. Jackson's story won't solely be told by media or fans. We like to believe the public has that much influence, yet it is largely those with the biggest platforms who will have their voice heard loudest.

Led by arguably the best player ever, LeBron James, they have made three straight finals appearances, winning the Cavs first NBA titles in 2016 on a game sealing three by point guard Kyrie Irving. LeBron himself has been to seven straight NBA Finals so one could say he knows the game well and is to be considered a teacher of the game to his younger teammates such as Irving. Recently, Irving has decided to step away from the Cavaliers organization to join the Boston Celtics because he no longer wanted to be in the so called "shadow" of James. Multiple sources have spoken on Lebron's basketball IQ calling it part of the reason he is the best player right now. Now that Kyrie has joined the Celtics he is leading his team based off things Lebron has already taught him, but only time will tell how the season will go and if Kyrie can survive. In the novel Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys become stranded on an island and have to use what they know about civilization already and how to behave to try and survive on this island. William Golding uses the symbols of face paint and pig hunts to show that someone who is civilized has disguised human nature by adapting to society's etiquette. For example, Bradley would always be the one who started communication on the court. "He spoke in basketball terms that nevertheless underlined his basic principle." (Bradley 106). Another example of Bill Bradley's leadership virtue was when he led his Princeton Tigers to a winning season ("Bill Bradley'65."). For Bill, that accomplishment was not easy or given to him. He was on the rise and everyone wanted to beat him. Everyone knew that he was an NBA prospect, but he kept his composure and played to the best of his ability every single game. It did not matter who he was playing, he gave it his all and made his teammates better. His teammates loved playing with him. Bill displayed impeccable confidence. He always made the right decisions whether it was shooting the last shot for the win or getting his teammates involved (Bradley 106). This was not only on the court but his leadership carried into his post career. Bill was involved not only in sports, but he was also the U.S Senates for New Jersey. • 13. The Port Arthur Massacre : A Killing Spree By Martin... The Port Arthur Massacre of 28th April 1996, was a killing spree by Martin Bryant at the historic Port Arthur, in eastern Tasmania, Australia. This event saw the implementation of law reform for gun control in both federal and state jurisdictions to remedy justice to future criminals. The media's attention influenced change for future justice, establishment of political parties and charities led to support for victims of crime as well as ensuring the protecting of constitutional rights. Prior to the Port Arthur Massacre, Australia had very lenient gun laws. The massacre of 35 people with an additional 23 wounded, pushed the then Prime Minister, John Howard, to reform the legislation associated with guns. Since then, firearm related deaths have declined by 47% . However, these statistics do not include illegally owned firearms, and there have been studies conducted showing that these laws have not made a difference. For example, the University of Sydney found that Australia owns as many guns now as we did during the time of the Port Arthur Massacre, even though, due to amnesties and buybacks, there has been more than 1 million weapons destroyed since 1996 . Although, as Greg Cary, reporter at 4BC, stated the: "Buyback and amnesty were about getting rid of the kinds of weapons that were used at Port Arthur" . • 16. Boston Crunch Rivalry In the NBA, it's no new news that the Cleveland Cavaliers star, Lebron James, and the players in the history of the Boston Celtics organization are big longtime rivals. This rivalry goes as far back as 2007. In 2007 a major shift in NBA History happened when star Lebron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to go join stars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat. This happened because star Lebron James felt as if the Cavaliers GM was not helping the team enough, as they could not get past the Boston Celtics in the playoffs. Other stars in the NBA had words about the request saying that it was "crazy" and that anyone would be lucky to be guaranteed a shot in the finals every year. Lebron James is currently in his 14th season in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He spent his first seven seasons playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, just 39 miles from his hometown, Akron. After the 2009–2010 NBA season, James decided not to resign his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and instead sign a contract with the Miami Heat. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of acknowledged stars. One way of understanding his approach is to think of every problem or project having components in four different spheres: 1. Mental, logical, scientific, technical 2. Following a career as a player Jackson applied his understanding to coaching basketball teams. You can't expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering individuals – even superstars – to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they can and can't change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the moment, instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow players are some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players. Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with the high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions to all sorts of problems – the Tao of Authority leads him. Zen is life, so why not let the eightfold path lead you to a method of coaching basketball? Even if 'right action means calling it quits' sometimes and it involves losing. A table of these results can be found in Appendix t1.5. The low objective values can most likely be attributed to the volatility of the $c_{i,j}$ variables, which are based off of the teams average 2– point and 3–point shot percentages. It is reasonable to assume that the teams had higher 2–point and 3–point percentages than average in the game where they scored the most points, accounting for the higher total points scored compared to the ILP. This is discussed further in section 6 (Obstacles Encountered So Far). – Comparing the $x_{i,j}$ used to obtain the objective value for the ILP for a selected team and the actual number of iPA per quarter j from the highest scoring game for the same team in the 2016–2017 season shows that the Golden State Warriors, who had the highest average number of points per game last season, followed a fairly similar game plan to that calculated by the ILP (r1.1). Greatness is a word, that people use to describe someone or something over a period of time to be the best in the world. But we ask ourselves how do we cultivate expertise to achieve greatness? In the book, "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle and Kobe Bryant documentary "Muse" expressed how deep practice and how failing can make you achieve greatness and cultivate expertise. Throughout their arguments, they both express uses and limits of their arguments on how is expertise is developed and cultivating greatness. In the book, "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle, he theorized that deep practice can bring you to the sweet spot, which can make learning stick. According to Mr. Coyle, "deep practice is a way of attentive practicing which closely resembles deliberate practice." This is basically practicing when you are truly an expert in your craft. One example that Mr. Coyle used to express that idea is a boy named Brunio trying to practice a move called elastico . According to the the story, "The Talent Book" it states "The first time we watch Brunio try the move he fails, then stops and thinks.....Then something clicks, he started nailing the move."(13) This is a perfect example of deep practice, because Brunio was practicing the move and when he fails he would stop and think of how he should perform the move..
