3. History of Deafness in the U.S.
In 2000, there was an approximate deaf
population of 28 million people
12 million of that population mostly leave
the school system with less than a 6th grade
reading level
Of the 12 million, 8 million legally have a
significant hearing loss and 4 million are
entirely deaf
