A portable assistive device for Blind, Dumb and Deaf people using AI.
Abstract:
Focusing and addressing the problems faced by the differently abled people such as
visually, audibly and vocally challenged, through a single device is a tough job. A lot of
research has been done on each problem and solutions have been proposed separately.
But not all of them are addressed together. The aim of the project is to create a single
device solution in such a way that is simple, fast, accurate and cost-effective. The main
purpose of the device is to make the differently abled people, feel independent confident
by seeing, hearing and talking for them. The paper provides a Google API and Raspberry
Pi based aid for the blind deaf and dumb people. The proposed device enables visually
challenged people to read by taking an image. Further, Image to text conversion and
speech synthesis is done, converting it into an audio format that reads out the extracted
text translating documents, books and other available materials in daily life. For the
audibly challenged, the input is in form of speech taken in by the microphone and
recorded audio is then converted into text which is displayed in the form of a pop-up
window for the user in the screen of the device. The vocally impaired are aided by taking
the input by the user as text through the built-in customized on-screen keyboard where
the text is identified, text into speech conversion is done and the speaker gives the speech
output. This way the device speaks for the user.

It is well-known that the language is the only way to communicate and interact with each other verbally or non-verbal way. People with special needs are members of this society and have the right to enjoy the communication with the external environment in an easy and professional manner. This paper aims to provide an interesting application that guarantees ultimate communication with the disabled users and vice versa. The key feature of this application is employing the Arabic language as a medium of communication to learn all the sign language terms. The power of this application appears in two aspects: first of all, the ability of normal people to communicate with the targeted people without having any previous knowledge on signs language. This can be either achieved by voice recognition of words or by typing the words in the Arabic language. The application is then displays the appropriate image(s) in the sign language. Secondly, and more importantly, people with special needs communicate with normal people by choosing the signs images on their phones from the numerous categories stored in the databases which express their ideas and thoughts. Consequently, the set of images is transformed into a text paragraph. We evaluated our application by testing it on real deaf and dumb users. We carefully created scenarios on realistic situations. The early results are promising as all deaf found the proposed technology useful and 90% of them wanted to use it on daily basis. © 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. We that know education is not a luxury but a necessity in today's life. It's a human right and every individual including blind and visually impaired people should also take it. It is very difficult for them to manage their education and learning process. According to recent study it has been found that over 200+ million blind people and visually impaired people are there and the number is growing. so the user have develop a learning application in which a blind or visually impaired student can study on their own without including third party in it. The student will be able to separately operate the application. Here they will be able to study various subjects of their choice, they will be able to take their own notes, and also take tests on the subject. The prime goal of this application is to solve the problem of the blind students regarding their education or studying pattern. Here they will be able to move the cursor anywhere on the desktop and the text will be dictated in the human synthesized AI voice using TTS conversion. They can easily make notes by simply dictating their points to the system, and the system will be convert into text format and also we can listened to it in an audio format. Once the learning part is done, and the student have to revise the particular topic then he/she can give test on that topic by using hand gestures. So here the system will help the visually impaired/blind student to learn and operate the system independently and also they will be able to use it as per their suitable time preference. So, the system is developed to resolve the problem of students being dependent on the third party in their studies and to increase their interest in studies. Hence, not only blind people but also other handicapped people will be able to use this application.

The current presentation presents the approach followed for the derivation of the Use Cases developed in the context of ÆGIS Integrating Project (Grant Agreement: 224348) of the 7th Framework Programme, which constitute the core outputs of the user needs phase of the project, together with the Personas and the conceptual models, setting the basis for the upcoming development and evaluation phases of the project. ÆGIS aims to embed support for accessibility through the development of an Open Accessibility Framework (OAF), upon which, open source accessibility interfaces and applications for the users as well as accessibility toolkits for the developers will be built. Within ÆGIS, three mainstream markets are targeted, namely the desktop, rich Internet applications and mobile devices/applications market segments. The Use Cases developed address all three application areas, targeted by ÆGIS. The User Centred Design (UCD) plan defined from the early beginning of the initiative constituted the cornerstone of the work for the Use Cases, Personas and conceptual models. Following this plan, the project Use Cases have built on the outcomes of the field trials and the workshops (national and Pan-European), where a representative sample of all ÆGIS targeted user groups has participated and the valuable expertise of the ÆGIS Consortium members. Following a concrete development methodology, 36 Use Cases (12 for desktop, 15 for mobile and 9 for rich Internet applications), accompanied by Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams, 17 Personas covering all major target groups of the project and 13 conceptual models, which are mapped to the Use Cases, have emerged. The Use Cases will be further elaborated to specific application scenarios that will orient the evaluation to take place in ÆGIS in three iterative phases and across 4 Pilot sites (Belgium, Spain, Sweden and in the UK). The Use Cases are seen as working document, which may be subject to updates and revisions throughout the project, following and keeping up with the progress noticed in ÆGIS project and the overall open source accessibility community.

1.1 INTRODUCTION In today’s era almost all tasks are digitalized. We have Smartphone in hands and it is nothing less than having world at your fingertips. These days we aren’t even using fingers. We just speak of the task and it is done. There exist systems where we can say Text Dad, “I’ll be late today.” And the text is sent. That is the task of a Virtual Assistant. It also supports specialized task such as booking a flight, or finding cheapest book online from various e- commerce sites and then providing an interface to book an order are helping automate search, discovery and online order operations. Virtual Assistants are software programs that help you ease your day to day tasks, such as showing weather report, creating reminders, making shopping lists etc. They can take commands via text (online chat bots) or by voice. Voice based intelligent assistants need an invoking word or wake word to activate the listener, followed by the command. For my project the wake word is JIA. We have so many virtual assistants, such as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana. For this project, wake word was chosen JIA. This system is designed to be used efficiently on desktops. Personal assistant software improves user productivity by managing routine tasks of the user and by providing information from online sources to the user. JIA is effortless to use. Call the wake word ‘JIA’ followed by the command. And within seconds, it gets executed. Voice searches have dominated over text search. Web searches conducted via mobile devices have only just overtaken those carried out using a computer and the analysts are already predicting that 50% of searches will be via voice by 2020.Virtual assistants are turning out to be smarter than ever. Allow your intelligent assistant to make email work for you. Detect intent, pick out important information, automate processes, and deliver personalized responses. This project was started on the premise that there is sufficient amount of openly available data and information on the web that can be utilized to build a virtual assistant that has access to making intelligent decisions for routine user activities.
