Women In The 1930s Research Paper
During the 1930s women is not treated equal with men and they are very different with each other. The amount of women actually getting jobs are
less likely to men getting jobs. Fashion is also very different, women are in plain dresses while men are in blue denim jackets. Women during the
Great Depression are actually depressed because they can not get jobs and their wages are half as as much as men. Men gets good jobs and amazing
wages but at least both still got their fashion. Women's careers are difficult to get. Workers preferably like men more thanwoman, so men are for sure to
get what they want but not so much for women. Society thinks that men are better than women. The likelihood of women getting a job is very not so
high, because

Racism And Violence In The 1930s And Now
Social Issues in the 1930s and Now
"Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about
momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent
peace." This is a quote by the infamous civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior. Even though social issues like racism and feminism have changed
since the 1930s like in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbirdby Harper Lee, there are still many similarities in how individuals were treated then and now.
Racism has changed since the 1930s in a way. For example, blacks were treated worse than whites in the 1930s and still slightly are.In the novel,
black characters like Tom Robinson are cheated and lied about doing bad things and also get lynched by mobs such as the Klu Klux Klan. Now,
blacks are taken to jail and prison for no reasons or have longer sentences than whites. For example, in the news it states," This month Meek Mill
was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating his probation. #FreeMeek hashtags have sprung up, and hundreds of his fans rallied near
City Hall in Philadelphia to protest the ruling." This is talking about about one black rapper who suffered the same prejudice as many other blacks.
One the other hand even though there is still the Klu Klux Klan, there isn't as many attacks as there was in the 1930s. This is how racism

Farming In 1930s America
During the year of following WWl, the demand for farming had increased greatly. Many farms in the midwest continued to expand to meet the
demand, tilling up prairie grasslands to make new fields for crops. After the demand was over, the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act )authorized
the federal government to try and raise farm prices and force farmers to plant less (Foner 816). This worked to a point and forced many to leave
their farms and move to the cities or to the west coast. The problem was during the early 1930's the country was under a great drought, causing this
now exposed soil to dry up even faster and begin to blow around. The winds would often blow for days, carrying soil particles as far east as New York
City. Families that remained... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cattle and other animals would be effected after sometime, as they didn't have any food to eat or water to drink. Farming equipment and broken
down cars could be seen buried deep into the soil and dust that had blow over them. The animals and machinery were not the only ones to be
affected by the dirt storms, children and adults had to wear coverings over their mouth and nose to not breath in the almost constant amounts of dirt
in the air. Many were found to have dust pneumonia and would die. After some time a mask was available to the people to help block the dirt and
dust out, but not all used them. In 1935, the passing of the soil conservation act, help find new ways to help redevelop the land that had been blown
away. The act sought to "control floods, prevent impairment of reservoirs and maintain the navigability of rivers and harbors, protect public health,
public lands and relieve unemployment" (Glass web). The country found new ways to help not only the individual farmer but the country at the same
time. Three years after the act was put into action soil erosion had decreased by sixtyfive percent. There have been many movies and books written

The Classic Era Of Cars In The 1930's
Cars were idolized in the 1930's, everyone wanted them. When the cars first became popular they weren't worried about the utility of the car. The
style and design was more about elegance and luxury. Everyone wanted their cars to nice, the 1930's were considered the Classic Era of cars
(Cooke). There were so many companies that began making cars back then, many of them are still making cars to this day. Though some companies
never made it out of the 1930's the cars are still around. The cars back then changed the look and style of cars to this day. The purchasing of a car
was different from now. Everyone would see the cars on the showroom floors and those would sell. Many companies advertised in magazines and
catalogs, they would send these catalogs were sent to showroom workers who got potential buyers for the companies. People would look at the car
for luxury or sportiness, speed was a big factor of the decision. The glamorous teardrop shape stayed around even into the 1940's. Cars were the new
horse carriages, they wanted to go fast. The cost of a car was a very different from now, before thegreat depression cars went for two hundred dollars to
five hundred. After that they went up in the thousands, prices varied from each car and depending on the companies (Cooke). ... Show more content on

Roles Of Women In The 1930s
Introduction
Hook– Susan B. Anthony once said "It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people,
who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less."
The roles of women in society today have changed drastically since the 1930s as for as their careers, family lives, and the respect they may or may not
receive.
The roles of women during the 1930s and the Great Depression are very different from the roles of women today. A. Homemaker roles were forced
upon women. However, it seemed like this could change during the 1930s. When the Depression hit, it heavily affected what was considered "men's
work," such as work in heavy industry. However, "women's work," such as teaching, domestic service, and clerical work, were not so harshly
affected. B. "Most women in the 1930s were married and during this time the woman's role as the center of the family became even more significant.
The Great Depression served to reinforce the traditional gender roles with women as homemakers." C. The types of roles forced upon women today
are changing from the conservative views of our past, although many people still hold similar views.
D. However, this is changing with the modern feminist movement.
Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. There are three waves of feminism in history. A. The term

The Great Depression Of The 1930s
The assigned readings offered an interesting and complex view of some of the diverse groups of people who were marginalized in California
during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The primary sources shared detailed information on how Mexicans, Filipinos, and White Americas
experienced hostility and inequality in California. In Resistance, Radicalism, and Repression on the Oxnard Plain, Frank Barajas discusses how beet
sugar growers on the Oxnard Plain cut the wages of Mexican laborers working in their fields. This ignited an uproar and began a strike movement
among the betaberleros (sugar beet workers), who felt it was an injustice to lower wages and face discrimination just because they were minorities
(Barajaos, 29–51). As commotion was occurring within the Oxnard Plain of California, conflict between the residents of the agricultural community of
Watsonville and the Filipino farm labor community emerged. Many Watsonville residents showed a strong anti–Filipino sentiment, as well as social
and sexual stereotyping of Filipinos (Witt, 293). This tension between Watsonville residents and Filipinos sparked the Watsonville Riot of 1930 (Witt,
299–300). While Mexicans and Filipinos faced hostility in California, surprisingly, so did many white migrants. In Mark Wild's If You Ain 't Got that
Do–Re–Mi, he shared the hostility many white citizens faced when they migrated to California during the depression. Many powerful and wealthy

Music in Annie in 1920–1930
The Roaring Twenties was a decade absorbed with the growth of the music industry thanks to the radio being born in 1920 (Tyle). The excitement of
the war being over brought the Roaring Twenties forth. The American people hungered for change, and the new music of the era, jazz, satisfied their
great hunger (100 Favourite Songs). Jazz was a brand new type of music drastically different from anything the American people had heard before.
Unfortunately, the Great Depression, which occurred in the thirties, brought forth an aroma of sadness and despair in the lives of the American people.
Would jazz also cave into the Depression? Or fight back? Although the mood of the American people changed from the Roaring... Show more content

How advertisements were used on the radio was shown on the "Hour of Smiles" show with Bert Healey in the play Annie; the Boylan sisters helped to
advertise Oxydent toothpaste (Annie). The radio produced many effects in the typical American lifestyle; it brought families together and even "knitted
the nation together" (Bailey 761). "The music of famous artists and symphony orchestras was beamed into countless homes – through the radio"
(Bailey 762). The play Annie expresses that one of these homes included an all girls orphanage; jazz music was beamed into the orphanage thanks to
their radio (Annie).
The iconic mark of the music in the twenties was jazz. According to a website devoted to posting and commenting on jazz music in the twenties, jazz
music appealed to the young people of the era. "The music...was fast and furious – it was young people's music..." (100 Favourite Songs). Jazz became
popular because it was so drastically different than anything they had heard before. Independent (or indie) record companies were introduced in the
Roaring Twenties (Tyle). Some of the greatest jazz musicians appeared on indie labels: Gennett, Paramount, and Oken (Tyle).

Dust Bowl Refugees In The 1930's
The 1930's were a time of tragedy for Midwestern people who lived in the United States, especially farmers in the Great Plains region. During this
time crops perished and winds picked up causing a massive dust storm to begin. In the course of this catastrophe "at least 350,000 Okies loaded their
belongings into cars and trucks and headed to California" (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, and Self 688). Californians were opposed to the arrival of
these dust bowl refugees because they were competition for California's already limited job market, the refugees were receiving a large amount of the
state's Federal Relief money, and they were causing problems in society. This essay will start with a little background of the Dust Bowl, explore how

These dust bowl refugees thought that California could be their salvation and a lot of them weren't disappointed because the state distributed
"millions of dollars worth of relief supplies to dust bowl refugees," ("Kern Will Probe" 6) throughout the 1930's. However, even with these federal
relief programs a numerous amount of these refugees still weren't wealthy by any means and were at a very low point in their lives looking for
any opportunity to stay alive. This alarming reality lead many of these refugees to commit crimes for money or just to end up in prison where they
would be fed and sheltered. In San Quentin California alone "the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas contributed 882 prisoners,"
("Dust Bowl Folks" 2) to their state prison in 3 years. Those refugees accounted for 18 percent of San Quentin State Prison's total inmate population.
In short, this not only put California in a social slump but also an economic crisis. Thus causing many Californians to be aggravated with the reality
that thousands of these people were coming to live in their home state. Not only were these refugees coming to their state and committing crime, the
state of California and the tax payers were now the ones responsible for feeding and sheltering these criminals. Most importantly, this responsibility
wasn't cheap, "the average cost per year of a prisoner in San Quentin is $215, making a total of $190,512," ("Dust Bowl Folks" 2) according to the
Healdsburg Tribune in 1939. Sadly, even those who didn't resort to crime and came to California with the best of intentions often only caused problems
for Californians. Employment groups and local businesses often had to halt employee hiring. They wanted to try to make sure that Californian citizens
were the ones getting the jobs over the refugees. However, with the magnitude of people trying to get jobs and the fact that these

Impact of Great Depression on International Relations in...
Impact of Great Depression on International Relations in the 1930s In the early 1920s the Great Depression hit. The chaos caused by the First
World War was the main reason for the Great Depression. The USA had lent large amounts of money to other countries to help with their damages
from the war. The loans that the USA made helped the countries to recover trade. Many countries tried to protect their industries by putting taxes on
imports. In 1930 USA the biggest trading nation in the world also raised their taxes. This made the world trade suffer badly as it made it difficult to
sell goods to America. World trade was already very difficult so when the Wall Street Crash hit there was a

invasions. This was a great opportunity for Hitler. However this lead to aggression, which lead to the build up, of World War Two. The leader of
Italy Mussolini wanted to distract the attention from economic problems by enlarging the Italian empire in Africa. Italy had lost over 40% of its
imports because of the Wall Street Crash and 30% of its exports. Mussolini wanted to fight in a war and create a giant empire. Mussolini wanted to
gain coal, iron and steel. He also felt that he needed to invade Abyssinia as revenge for there defeat in 1896. Abyssinia was an independent country
and was part of the league. The league was meant to protect Abyssinia in any problems. In 1935 Italy invaded Abyssinia using tanks, poison gas,
bombs and flamethrowers whereas Abyssinia had troops armed with spears and out–dated rifles. As a result of this invasion Italy left the league and
allied with Germany. This weakened the league. People started to undermine the league. This was a loss to the league because Italy was one of the

The 1930's Dust Bowl: Damage And Death
Two words. Damage and death. Everything's been destroyed, the people have almost nothing left. The 1930's dust bowl was a long period of non stop
dust storms and droughts that caused so much damage, and so much deaths. After reading and watching about world difficulties of escaping North
Korea, fighting poverty with education and the dust bowl, the dust bowl is the worst problem to overcome. There are several reasons to support my
opinion but, the main reasons are there was nowhere to run, the air itself could kill you, and there was a lot of human pain and suffering.
One reason the 1930's dust bowl was the worst problem to overcome is; there was nowhere to run. "There was just a steady blow of dirt. It was
evil, unreal. It was so bad you can't even describe it. The dust bowl was the worst manmade ecological problem in history." As stated in the video

go outside. I can't even imagine what they were feeling as they were going through this. You would always have to be cautious of anything, and
prepared for the dust.
Lastly, there was a lot of human pain and suffering. The wind would blister your face and put your eyes out. The wind itself could kill you. So many
families were forced to leave or abandon their farms. So many americans were left homeless with nothing. They had a long term economic impact and

Dust Storms In The 1930's
During the "Dirty Thirties", this is a period of dust storms that damaged the ecology and agriculture of the United States and Canadian prairies in the
1930's. Drought came in three waves, 1934, 1936, and 1939–1940. Some regions experienced drought conditions for as many as eight years.
The drought of the 1930 turned soil into dust, in which the destroying winds blew away in humongous clouds that sometimes blocked the skies.
Choking waves of dust named "black blizzards" or "black rollers" traveled across the country. Great dust storms spread from Dust Bowl era. The

White Schools In The 1930s Essay
One of the many aspects of life which were a difficulty in the 1930s was school. In the 1930s, schools were separate, but supposedly still equal.
Unfortunately, this idea did not match the reality of life at the time. Though schools weren't incredible for white students, the black students had it far
worse ("The 1930s: Education Overview"). White schools had more funding and could afford better teachers, as well as better school buildings, and
more learning opportunities. Along with these, the learning environment was generally better, as people generally cared more about the education of
white children than that of colored children. "Two hundred thirty southern counties did not have a single high school for black students in 1932–even

Children also faced extreme punishments and strict rules at school (Ruth Tenzer Feldman). A misbehaving child would be punished by having to wear
a cone–shaped hat on which "dunce" was written or by being hit with a ruler. Many factors contributed to the poor school systems in the 1930s.
The farmers in America had a very difficult time when the Great Depression occurred. "People who grew up during the Depression said, 'No one had
any money. We were all in the same boat.' Neighbors helped each other through hard times, sickness, and accidents" (Bill Ganzel). Because no
other profession gave enough money at the time, buying much of a farmer's produce was not in their price range. Farmers would have to either
lower their prices or make no profit at all. Though a wide variety of issues made a farmer's job difficult in the 1930s, the problems mainly all arose
as a result of tenant farmers (people who rented land to farm). Tractors became available, though expensive, and many landowners would buy one
which ended up causing problems (Bill Ganzel). Due to the lack of money, affording a tractor for each tenant farmer on a landowner's

Similar to the snow blower, the first snow mobile was invented by Joseph – Armand Bombardier in 1937. Both of these Canadian inventions have

1930–1940
The 1930s brought a very turbulent time to the United States. As a result of the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the nation was experiencing a severe
depression. There were hard class divisions dividing the nation. People were either extremely rich or extremely poor. The middle class simply did not
exist (Bondi 97). On March 4, 1933 Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office with the promise of hope and relief for struggling Americans. Roosevelt
followed up his promise for help with the New Deal, his plan to combat the depression. The New Deal involved the three R's: relief, recovery and
reform. It included measures concerning banking, securities, industry, and agriculture (Bondi 97).

This led to World War II which began on September 3, 1939 when Great Britain and France declared war on Germany (Bondi 22). Also in the1930s,

Germany and America. The explosion was a great blow to the prestige of the Nazi regime (Kirshon 676).
In the 1930s, Surrealism developed in art with an emphasis on content and free form (Brittanica). As a part of the surrealist movement, Salvador
Dali painted "Persistence of Memory. However, Dali was expelled from Europe's Surrealists for his support of Franco in the Spanish civil war (Burne

Grant Wood and John Stuart Curry painted the landscape while writers such as Steinbeck and Farrell wrote about specific regions in their works

and peach–tinted mirrors (Grief 1). According to the author, "Streamlining became the vogue–in furniture and clothing, clocks, and typewriters,

What Is Life Like In The 1930's
The novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird", represented what life was like in the 1930's as a fiction story that was told from a little girl's point of view. As I

the main issues found in this novel are the Great Depression, women's rights, alcohol abuse, rape cases, and racism in the South.
The Great Depression occurred mainly because of the stock market crash of 1929. It lasted from 1929–1939, a total of ten years (Amadeo). This

The Role Of Media And Technology During The 1920s And 1930s
The development of 1920s and 1930s media and technology was extremely influential upon the period of time immediately after. Media in the
1920–30s and its relevance to the years that followed, focusing on the western world. Through the journalism and writing movements during the era,
new technology was exposed to the public and impacted events in the years that followed. The term technology can also apply to machinery, medicine
and weaponry; however, none of them corresponded with the changes to media in the 1920s and 1930s. The evolvement of media and technology in the
1920s and 1930s impacted events during the era and later in the Second World War.
The development of 1920s and 1930s media and technology was extremely influential upon the period of time immediately after. Radio played a
significant part in the 1920s and 1930s. It boomed during this period, collaborating with the newspapers to deliver news and current events around the
world. During the mid–1920s non–profit organisations and universities operated radio stations in America. The British Broadcasting Corporation

Differences Between The 1920s And Fashion In The 1930's
Fashion during the Great Depression was very different from 1920's because poor people struggled and used cheap resources as clothing. Men's
fashion was pointed towards the job they worked, and women's fashion was practical, yet simple. Poor families had to use their resources to create
items for them to live, like clothes. Clothing in poor families was usually made from flour sacks. Women during the Depression had an elegant style,
but it was practical for the work they did. Men always looked sharp, but their pieces were made of cheaper fabrics to save money. There were many
styles for different families, working women, and men with specific needs during the Great Depression in the 1930's. To start off, fashion and style
changed drastically from the 1920's to the 1930's. It is common to think style during the Great Depression would be shabby or trashy, but elegant
style was huge during the time period (Sessions). The length of skirts and dresses were way more daring in the 1920's (Nash). Because of the
Depression, clothing was dialed down a lot after the 1920's (Pearson). Fashion back then was very out there and extravagant, and also gave a more
joyful vibe to the decade (Nash). One of the changes was that in the start of the thirties, women wore hats and gloves everywhere, whereas in the 20's,
they were not as popular (Tucker). Also, the catalog market exploded because the Great Depression made ready–to–wear pieces of clothing a lot more
popular. This was because some

The Dust Bowl In The 1930's
The United States during most of the Modern Era, had been described as one of the newest nations of time around. It is commonly known about its
revolutionary values that it has held against Britain, at the time and it had indeed become a successful nation. But, it had also gone through several
natural calamities throughout history that had changed its course of time, which affected the residents. A natural calamity was the Dust Bowl during the
1930s. According to the textbook, the Midwest was overwhelmed with drought, which caused a Dust Bowl in the 1930s, which made matters worse for
these residents because this was also the time of the Great Depression; "the effect, exacerbated by overplowing, was the creation of the Dust Bowl

On the condition of the Great Dust Bowl, this made this process really difficult because most of programs from the WPA had been agricultural jobs
for the common public. Thus agriculture was not the simplest factor. If crops were unable to grow during the arid situations, then these endeavors
were more difficult. To conclude, this dark history of this nation had influenced a very famous literature work called The Grapes of Wrath. According
to the textbook, this novel is described as an exodus in Midwestern United States, in states like Kansas and Oklahoma, that overwhelmed the much
needed agricultural support for the population. In conclusion, this novel was even made into a film called The Grapes of Wrath, which focused on this
book and further explained this

The Great Depression of the 1930s in Canada
The Great Depression of the 1930s in Canada
The Great Depression of the 1930's is a benchmark for all depressions and recessions in the past and in the future. In the booklet "The Great
Depression of the 1930s in Canada" , Michiel Horn gives an intellectual dissection of the events that occurred during the Great Depression. Michiel
Horn's approach leaves the reader with a foul taste for the Dirty Thirties. This essay will summarize Michiel Horns key points as well as discuss the
ability of Michiel Horn to report his findings.
Michiel Horn is currently the Chairman of the History Department at York University. His interests in the Great Depression revolve around the history
of taxation. Therefore, he is interested in making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As people were having fewer children at this time, the population growth of Canada slowed. In an effort to keep jobs for Canadians, the government
decided that it would reduce immigration. The first group targeted was the Jewish people. Some Canadians even decided to go to the United States
in search of "greener pastures" . The movement of people from the country to cities also slowed. This was because it was easier for people to subsist
in the country where they could chop their own firewood and live off the land. Life on the farm was actually not much better than in the city, as a
drought cost many farmers, particularly those in the west, their crops.
The political scene was dominated by a Liberal party that would not "commit a five cent piece towards the cost of unemployment relief" . This
eventually led to their defeat in the summer of 1930. The winner of the election was the Conservative party. Their goal was to get Canada back up and
running. In an effort to do so, they raised tariffs on imports and tried to protect national interests. This actually had the opposite affect on the economy
and pushed the country further into economic hardship. The government around this time was also trying to balance the budget. In order to balance the
budget, they increased taxes which also had a detrimental affect on the economy. After five years, the Conservatives were defeated due to unorganized
leadership. The Liberals won the election in 1935. Although

Essay On Segregation In The 1930s
The 1930s brought many changes to the southern US. The decade kicked off with the beginning of the Great Depression, a time of economic
collapse. The south, as well as the rest of the country was greatly impacted by many other factors including the social and cultural standards of the
day. Life was difficult for everyone during this time. The 1930's greatly affected the lives of people in the south of all races, genders, and ages,
although it was very noticeably harder for some more than others.
Segregation was very important in the south during the 1930s and it caused psychological damage to many young African Americans. Almost
everything was segregated. Blacks and whites had to use separate bathrooms, sit in different sections of the trains, were taught differently, and much
more. Racism was encouraged socially and legally via the "Jim Crow" laws ("Segregation."). Segregation caused many blacks to not be able to enjoy as
many rights as whites. For example, black–only schools were usually in old run–down buildings and the teachers did many different jobs whereas
white–only schools got new textbooks, heat, and teachers were paid a decent amount ("Segregation in the Schools."). Segregation especially affected
children mentally. In the Plessy v. Ferguson case it was stated that,"A sense of inferiority affects the motivation of a child to learn. Segregation with the
sanction of law, therefore, has a tendency to [retard] the educational and mental development of negro children

Women In The 1930s
In the 1930's times were much different from times today. The Great depression was during this time. It was America's lowest point in the Economy.
An article , online, from Carrer Trend says, "The unemployment rate, only 3.2 percent in 1929, rose to 24.9 by 1933–– more than 12.8 million people
were out of work that year." Also, in the movie To Kill a Mockingbird, the young girl in the movie, Scout, asks her father Atticus if they were as poor
as some of their town friends and he replied by saying, "The Cunninghams are country folks, farmers, the crash hit them the hardest." Both of these
quotes are evidence that the times were hard for most people. The "crash" Atticus is talking about is a stock market crash that happened in late 1929.

How Is The 1930s A Bad Economy
Each decade is famous for one reason or another, so the 1930s is no exception. So when people talk about the 1930s the first thing that comes to
mind is the Great Depression. The stock market crashed on October 29 1929 which is also called Black Tuesday. his is what officially started the
Great Depression and exposed a hidden truth of a bad economy. The stock market is a place where citizens purchase and sell shares in different
companies like McDonalds or Apple. Then, people panicked and ran to the banks to pull their money out. But many banks didn't have a ton of cash on
hand. This means that many people in line never got their money back. By 1933 nearly half of the banks in the United States had bankrupted and locked
their doors for good.

What Caused The Dust Bowl In The 1930's
The dust bowl was a long period of time of severe dust storms that created major damage in the ecology and agriculture. During the 1930's there was
a severe drought and failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion. During the drought of the 1930's all the dry soil turned into
dust which the strong winds blew away in huge clouds that sometimes made the sky turn black. The "black blizzard" or "black rollers" traveled across
the country reaching as far as the east coast and hitting major cities. Some of the most important causes of the dust bowl were the major drought and
wind erosion.
One of the major causes of the dust bowl was the drought. Many crops were damaged by little rainfall, high temperatures, and high winds, as

How Did The Great Depression Affect The Economy Of The 1930s
The 1930s was a decade in the history of the United States marked by a great deal of suffering of the general public. A failing economy, an
anthropogenically–induced disaster in the Midwest and persecution of colored people resulted in a total meltdown of American society. Meanwhile,
ordinary people sought escape from this cycle of depression through entertainment such as radio, film and music. "The Great Depression (1929–39) was
the deepest and longest–lasting economic downturn in the history of the Western industrialized world" (History.com). In the summer of 1929, the
economy entered a recession. While consumer spending dropped and goods stagnated at factories and stores, stock prices rose to an unjustifiable point.
In October of 1929, investors panicked, and began dumping millions of shares onto the market. "... On 'Black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Consumer spending came to a grinding halt due to a lack of confidence in the economy, and businesses were forced to slow down production and
construction. Companies were not getting enough profit, and could not pay a high number of employees. By the end of 1932, 25% of Americans
were out of a job. As the crisis deepened, investors lost confidence in the banking system as well. Panic ensued, and when record numbers of people
sought to withdraw deposits, banks had insufficient reserves and were forced to close. In the 1932 presidential election, Franklin D. Roosevelt won a
landslide victory. His administration immediately set to work to fix America's problems. The collective reforms of Roosevelt's administration were
called the New Deal. In the first years of his presidency, FDR: created government entities that oversaw stock trading, got Congress to pass legislation
that reorganized banks, ended Prohibition, signed several bills that improved conditions for workers and more. Despite great efforts, the Great

Government Involvement In Agricultural Affairs In The 1930's
Prior to the 1930s, government involvement in agricultural affairs was practically nonexistent. Some measures aimed at protecting farmers were

U.S., there was no precedent for a government role in American agriculture. This standard was broken during the course of the presidencies of Herbert
Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. During these administrations, certain initiatives were authorized in order to help U.S. agriculture and farmers
recuperate after suffering the consequences of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. During the Great Depression, the prices of crops fell, so

The Great Depression Of The 1930 ' S
The Great Depression of the 1930's was enveloped within a rather large scheme of issues that were left to the wayside until it was to late. One
indefinite issue can not be highlighted, due to the complexity and despair the occurred during this time period. The date that begun the financial
meltdown was noted as "Black Tuesday", this specific date occurred on October 29, 1929. Perhaps though, this was a day of climaxing events that
exacerbated the Great Depression.
The time period that preceded the Great Depression was termed as "The Roaring Twenties. The time period was noted for the overabundance and
overdependence on multiple form of production, specifically the beginning of the automotive industry. Within this time period was a pronounced
disparity between the economic classes (Romer). When analyzing the masses that lived in poverty during this time period we can see that, "60% of
the population was living below poverty levels, while a mere 5% of the wealthiest people in America accounted for 33% of the income, and the richest
1% owned 40% of the nation's wealth. This uneven distribution of wealth was mirrored in the unequal distribution of riches between industry and
agriculture" ("Causes of The Great Depression").
Another prudent point that we need to discuss is the affect that many other nations experienced during this period of time. Many of the economies rely
upon each other to function, when one is in turmoil others will follow suit. Europe was still under torment

The Great Depression Of The 1930s
The Great Depression of the 1930s is notably one of the greatest crises of American history. During this time frame the American economy collapsed in
great part because of factors such as the existence of massive wealth inequality, the dust bowl that started in the Great Plains, and the rampant business
speculation of the 1920's. These factors helped turn an awful economic depression into what would be called an all–out social crisis. Bread lines and
soup kitchens became a common occurrence in American cities. Thousands of families were evicted from their homes everyday, and took to the streets
hoping for some type of assistance. Throughout this time of struggle many American citizens took to writing the white house and its officials in an...

The men of the family were less likely to write the white house because of their fear of being looked at as weak or incapable of providing for their
family. This fear is shown in several of the letters, including a letter written by a mother to President Roosevelt. In the letter the mother asks for
money to help feed her family and concludes the letter with stating, "if my husban new this he could Kill me." In chapter three of the text by
McElvaine there is a letter that stands as an example of a female American citizen pleading to the first lady for clothes. However, what differentiates
this letter from the majority is that this individual is not asking for her family, but asking of a spring coat for herself. In this letter the woman by the
name of Mrs. J.T. addresses the first lady at the time, Eleanor Roosevelt, as "My Dear Friend". This intimate greeting supports the idea that the
American population at the time felt as though the Roosevelt's understood the daily struggle of living through the depression. These citizens were
comfortable confiding in them and sharing their hardships. A belief that the government including the Roosevelt's would provide much–needed relief
to the country came with this sense of comfort and intimacy. Not all American citizens, however, wrote to the white house in need of clothes or money.

When the Great Depression hit its lowest point, approximately 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half of the nation's banks failed
says, History.com. From the music that people listened to, to the clothing they wore, the people of the 1930s were forced to change their lifestyle.
The way people lived changed dramatically during the 1930s due to the Great Depression. Many new musicians were founded during this era. There
was a huge switch in the music industry and the genres that existed. For example, two of many new genres were introduced throughout the 30s.
Hillbilly folk and Western. The center of this new western music was Texas, where taverns with new jukeboxes or stages entertained patrons.
Musicians dressed as cowboys became legendary during this decade. By the end of this generation, western music became a lot more danceable and
rowdy (Berg). Hillbilly folk first originated from the Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast. A few folk musicians that prospered this genre were,
the Carter Family and the Smoky Mountain Boys. Hillbilly music benefited especially from radio programming like the National Barn Dance and the
Grand Ole Opry. As mentioned in "1930s: Music". Although there were many more genres, those two are the ones that became very popular over the
course of the 30s. Not only did music provide a distraction, but it also supplied entertainment.

We will be discussing the difference in working conditions of the 1930s and 1950s and compare them to today's working condition standards. We

Working Conditions in the early 1930s to the 1950s was constantly evolving. President Roosevelt's relief efforts did much in providing Americans with
jobs but many key factors had been overlooked. There had been cases of poor working conditions, long hours, little to no job security, and work for
pennies on the dollar (OpenStax, 2015). In the early 1900s, eighty percent of workers had been exposed to constantly changing weather conditions

Role Of Natural Resources In The 1930s
Natural Resources in the 1930s Economic growth comes form the use of natural resources. In the 1930's, natural resources are what fueled the
growth of the U.S. economy. The use of resources such as water, timber, coal, oil, and minerals were in very high demand. Even now there is still a
market for these resources. The use of natural resources was very high in the 1930's and the possible damage that the use of these resources was of
little concern, or not even known at the time. In the 1930s the growth of the U.S. economy would become a burden due to the use of natural resources,
how the resources were collected and extracted, and the impact that harvesting had on the environment. The main point of this article, is that the mass
consumption and mass production is not always ideal. First, let's start by first introducing the topics which are introduced and their use. The first thing
Theilmann covers in each paragraph is the use of natural resources. Again, he mainly concentrates on the U.S. during the thirties. He starts by stating
the importance of each resource. He first starts talking about agriculture, water, and timber use and their importance during that time. He starts this topic
with a brief, but notable topic sentence. He says, "Agricultural and timber production had long been important American industries. By the 1930's,
farmers had increased production of both food crops and market crops, most notably cotton" (Theilmann). He then starts talking about over

Inventions Of Canada In The 1930's
After the gruesome war Canada had fought in, it has left the economy in pieces, many returning soldiers are unable to find a job or get resettled in

Women In The 1930S Research Paper

  • 1. Women In The 1930s Research Paper During the 1930s women is not treated equal with men and they are very different with each other. The amount of women actually getting jobs are less likely to men getting jobs. Fashion is also very different, women are in plain dresses while men are in blue denim jackets. Women during the Great Depression are actually depressed because they can not get jobs and their wages are half as as much as men. Men gets good jobs and amazing wages but at least both still got their fashion. Women's careers are difficult to get. Workers preferably like men more thanwoman, so men are for sure to get what they want but not so much for women. Society thinks that men are better than women. • 2. Racism And Violence In The 1930s And Now Social Issues in the 1930s and Now "Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace." This is a quote by the infamous civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior. Even though social issues like racism and feminism have changed since the 1930s like in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbirdby Harper Lee, there are still many similarities in how individuals were treated then and now. Racism has changed since the 1930s in a way. For example, blacks were treated worse than whites in the 1930s and still slightly are.In the novel, black characters like Tom Robinson are cheated and lied about doing bad things and also get lynched by mobs such as the Klu Klux Klan. Now, blacks are taken to jail and prison for no reasons or have longer sentences than whites. For example, in the news it states," This month Meek Mill was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating his probation. #FreeMeek hashtags have sprung up, and hundreds of his fans rallied near City Hall in Philadelphia to protest the ruling." This is talking about about one black rapper who suffered the same prejudice as many other blacks. One the other hand even though there is still the Klu Klux Klan, there isn't as many attacks as there was in the 1930s. This is how racism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Farming In 1930s America During the year of following WWl, the demand for farming had increased greatly. Many farms in the midwest continued to expand to meet the demand, tilling up prairie grasslands to make new fields for crops. After the demand was over, the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act )authorized the federal government to try and raise farm prices and force farmers to plant less (Foner 816). This worked to a point and forced many to leave their farms and move to the cities or to the west coast. The problem was during the early 1930's the country was under a great drought, causing this now exposed soil to dry up even faster and begin to blow around. The winds would often blow for days, carrying soil particles as far east as New York City. Families that remained... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cattle and other animals would be effected after sometime, as they didn't have any food to eat or water to drink. Farming equipment and broken down cars could be seen buried deep into the soil and dust that had blow over them. The animals and machinery were not the only ones to be affected by the dirt storms, children and adults had to wear coverings over their mouth and nose to not breath in the almost constant amounts of dirt in the air. Many were found to have dust pneumonia and would die. After some time a mask was available to the people to help block the dirt and dust out, but not all used them. In 1935, the passing of the soil conservation act, help find new ways to help redevelop the land that had been blown away. The act sought to "control floods, prevent impairment of reservoirs and maintain the navigability of rivers and harbors, protect public health, public lands and relieve unemployment" (Glass web). The country found new ways to help not only the individual farmer but the country at the same time. Three years after the act was put into action soil erosion had decreased by sixtyfive percent. • 5. Roles Of Women In The 1930s Introduction Hook– Susan B. Anthony once said "It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less." The roles of women in society today have changed drastically since the 1930s as for as their careers, family lives, and the respect they may or may not receive. The roles of women during the 1930s and the Great Depression are very different from the roles of women today. A. Homemaker roles were forced upon women. However, it seemed like this could change during the 1930s. When the Depression hit, it heavily affected what was considered "men's work," such as work in heavy industry. However, "women's work," such as teaching, domestic service, and clerical work, were not so harshly affected. B. "Most women in the 1930s were married and during this time the woman's role as the center of the family became even more significant. The Great Depression served to reinforce the traditional gender roles with women as homemakers." C. The types of roles forced upon women today are changing from the conservative views of our past, although many people still hold similar views. D. However, this is changing with the modern feminist movement. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. There are three waves of feminism in history. A. • 6. The Great Depression Of The 1930s The assigned readings offered an interesting and complex view of some of the diverse groups of people who were marginalized in California during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The primary sources shared detailed information on how Mexicans, Filipinos, and White Americas experienced hostility and inequality in California. In Resistance, Radicalism, and Repression on the Oxnard Plain, Frank Barajas discusses how beet sugar growers on the Oxnard Plain cut the wages of Mexican laborers working in their fields. This ignited an uproar and began a strike movement among the betaberleros (sugar beet workers), who felt it was an injustice to lower wages and face discrimination just because they were minorities (Barajaos, 29–51). As commotion was occurring within the Oxnard Plain of California, conflict between the residents of the agricultural community of Watsonville and the Filipino farm labor community emerged. Many Watsonville residents showed a strong anti–Filipino sentiment, as well as social and sexual stereotyping of Filipinos (Witt, 293). This tension between Watsonville residents and Filipinos sparked the Watsonville Riot of 1930 (Witt, 299–300). While Mexicans and Filipinos faced hostility in California, surprisingly, so did many white migrants. In Mark Wild's If You Ain 't Got that Do–Re–Mi, he shared the hostility many white citizens faced when they migrated to California during the depression. The introduction of colored photography along with organized photographic groups and their impact took the World by storm as the realization of normal citizens being impacted by the Great Depression set in. • 8. 1920s-1930 Music Essay Music in Annie in 1920–1930 The Roaring Twenties was a decade absorbed with the growth of the music industry thanks to the radio being born in 1920 (Tyle). The excitement of the war being over brought the Roaring Twenties forth. The American people hungered for change, and the new music of the era, jazz, satisfied their great hunger (100 Favourite Songs). Jazz was a brand new type of music drastically different from anything the American people had heard before. Or fight back? Although the mood of the American people changed from the Roaring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The music of famous artists and symphony orchestras was beamed into countless homes – through the radio" (Bailey 762). The play Annie expresses that one of these homes included an all girls orphanage; jazz music was beamed into the orphanage thanks to their radio (Annie). The iconic mark of the music in the twenties was jazz. According to a website devoted to posting and commenting on jazz music in the twenties, jazz music appealed to the young people of the era. • 9. Dust Bowl Refugees In The 1930's The 1930's were a time of tragedy for Midwestern people who lived in the United States, especially farmers in the Great Plains region. During this time crops perished and winds picked up causing a massive dust storm to begin. In the course of this catastrophe "at least 350,000 Okies loaded their belongings into cars and trucks and headed to California" (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, and Self 688). Californians were opposed to the arrival of these dust bowl refugees because they were competition for California's already limited job market, the refugees were receiving a large amount of the state's Federal Relief money, and they were causing problems in society. These dust bowl refugees thought that California could be their salvation and a lot of them weren't disappointed because the state distributed "millions of dollars worth of relief supplies to dust bowl refugees," ("Kern Will Probe" 6) throughout the 1930's. However, even with these federal relief programs a numerous amount of these refugees still weren't wealthy by any means and were at a very low point in their lives looking for any opportunity to stay alive. This alarming reality lead many of these refugees to commit crimes for money or just to end up in prison where they would be fed and sheltered. In San Quentin California alone "the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas contributed 882 prisoners," ("Dust Bowl Folks" 2) to their state prison in 3 years. Those refugees accounted for 18 percent of San Quentin State Prison's total inmate population. In short, this not only put California in a social slump but also an economic crisis. Thus causing many Californians to be aggravated with the reality that thousands of these people were coming to live in their home state. Not only were these refugees coming to their state and committing crime, the state of California and the tax payers were now the ones responsible for feeding and sheltering these criminals. Most importantly, this responsibility wasn't cheap, "the average cost per year of a prisoner in San Quentin is $215, making a total of $190,512," ("Dust Bowl Folks" 2) according to the Healdsburg Tribune in 1939. Sadly, even those who didn't resort to crime and came to California with the best of intentions often only caused problems for Californians. Employment groups and local businesses often had to halt employee hiring. They wanted to try to make sure that Californian citizens were the ones getting the jobs over the refugees. The chaos caused by the First World War was the main reason for the Great Depression. The USA had lent large amounts of money to other countries to help with their damages from the war. The loans that the USA made helped the countries to recover trade. Many countries tried to protect their industries by putting taxes on imports. Italy had lost over 40% of its imports because of the Wall Street Crash and 30% of its exports. Mussolini wanted to fight in a war and create a giant empire. Mussolini wanted to gain coal, iron and steel. He also felt that he needed to invade Abyssinia as revenge for there defeat in 1896. Abyssinia was an independent country and was part of the league. The league was meant to protect Abyssinia in any problems. In 1935 Italy invaded Abyssinia using tanks, poison gas, bombs and flamethrowers whereas Abyssinia had troops armed with spears and out–dated rifles. As a result of this invasion Italy left the league and allied with Germany. This weakened the league. People started to undermine the league. The 1930's dust bowl was a long period of non stop dust storms and droughts that caused so much damage, and so much deaths. After reading and watching about world difficulties of escaping North Korea, fighting poverty with education and the dust bowl, the dust bowl is the worst problem to overcome. There are several reasons to support my opinion but, the main reasons are there was nowhere to run, the air itself could kill you, and there was a lot of human pain and suffering. One reason the 1930's dust bowl was the worst problem to overcome is; there was nowhere to run. "There was just a steady blow of dirt. It was evil, unreal. It was so bad you can't even describe it. The dust bowl was the worst manmade ecological problem in history." As stated in the video clip from the documentary, The Dust Bowl. Drought came in three waves, 1934, 1936, and 1939–1940. Some regions experienced drought conditions for as many as eight years. The drought of the 1930 turned soil into dust, in which the destroying winds blew away in humongous clouds that sometimes blocked the skies. Unfortunately, this idea did not match the reality of life at the time. Though schools weren't incredible for white students, the black students had it far worse ("The 1930s: Education Overview"). White schools had more funding and could afford better teachers, as well as better school buildings, and more learning opportunities. Along with these, the learning environment was generally better, as people generally cared more about the education of white children than that of colored children. The farmers in America had a very difficult time when the Great Depression occurred. "People who grew up during the Depression said, 'No one had any money. We were all in the same boat.' Neighbors helped each other through hard times, sickness, and accidents" (Bill Ganzel). Because no other profession gave enough money at the time, buying much of a farmer's produce was not in their price range. Farmers would have to either lower their prices or make no profit at all. Though a wide variety of issues made a farmer's job difficult in the 1930s, the problems mainly all arose as a result of tenant farmers (people who rented land to farm). Tractors became available, though expensive, and many landowners would buy one which ended up causing problems (Bill Ganzel). • 16. 1930-1940 Essay 1930–1940 The 1930s brought a very turbulent time to the United States. As a result of the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the nation was experiencing a severe depression. There were hard class divisions dividing the nation. People were either extremely rich or extremely poor. The middle class simply did not exist (Bondi 97). On March 4, 1933 Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office with the promise of hope and relief for struggling Americans. Roosevelt followed up his promise for help with the New Deal, his plan to combat the depression. The New Deal involved the three R's: relief, recovery and reform. • 19. Differences Between The 1920s And Fashion In The 1930's Fashion during the Great Depression was very different from 1920's because poor people struggled and used cheap resources as clothing. Men's fashion was pointed towards the job they worked, and women's fashion was practical, yet simple. Poor families had to use their resources to create items for them to live, like clothes. Clothing in poor families was usually made from flour sacks. Women during the Depression had an elegant style, but it was practical for the work they did. Men always looked sharp, but their pieces were made of cheaper fabrics to save money. There were many styles for different families, working women, and men with specific needs during the Great Depression in the 1930's. To start off, fashion and style changed drastically from the 1920's to the 1930's. It is common to think style during the Great Depression would be shabby or trashy, but elegant style was huge during the time period (Sessions). The length of skirts and dresses were way more daring in the 1920's (Nash). Because of the Depression, clothing was dialed down a lot after the 1920's (Pearson). Fashion back then was very out there and extravagant, and also gave a more joyful vibe to the decade (Nash). One of the changes was that in the start of the thirties, women wore hats and gloves everywhere, whereas in the 20's, they were not as popular (Tucker). This was because it was easier for people to subsist in the country where they could chop their own firewood and live off the land. Life on the farm was actually not much better than in the city, as a drought cost many farmers, particularly those in the west, their crops. The political scene was dominated by a Liberal party that would not "commit a five cent piece towards the cost of unemployment relief" . This eventually led to their defeat in the summer of 1930. The south, as well as the rest of the country was greatly impacted by many other factors including the social and cultural standards of the day. Life was difficult for everyone during this time. The 1930's greatly affected the lives of people in the south of all races, genders, and ages, although it was very noticeably harder for some more than others. Segregation was very important in the south during the 1930s and it caused psychological damage to many young African Americans. Almost everything was segregated. Blacks and whites had to use separate bathrooms, sit in different sections of the trains, were taught differently, and much more. Racism was encouraged socially and legally via the "Jim Crow" laws ("Segregation."). Segregation caused many blacks to not be able to enjoy as many rights as whites. For example, black–only schools were usually in old run–down buildings and the teachers did many different jobs whereas white–only schools got new textbooks, heat, and teachers were paid a decent amount ("Segregation in the Schools."). Segregation especially affected children mentally. In the Plessy v. Ferguson case it was stated that,"A sense of inferiority affects the motivation of a child to learn. One indefinite issue can not be highlighted, due to the complexity and despair the occurred during this time period. The date that begun the financial meltdown was noted as "Black Tuesday", this specific date occurred on October 29, 1929. Perhaps though, this was a day of climaxing events that exacerbated the Great Depression. The time period that preceded the Great Depression was termed as "The Roaring Twenties. The time period was noted for the overabundance and overdependence on multiple form of production, specifically the beginning of the automotive industry. Within this time period was a pronounced disparity between the economic classes (Romer). When analyzing the masses that lived in poverty during this time period we can see that, "60% of the population was living below poverty levels, while a mere 5% of the wealthiest people in America accounted for 33% of the income, and the richest 1% owned 40% of the nation's wealth. This uneven distribution of wealth was mirrored in the unequal distribution of riches between industry and agriculture" ("Causes of The Great Depression"). In this letter the woman by the name of Mrs. J.T. addresses the first lady at the time, Eleanor Roosevelt, as "My Dear Friend". This intimate greeting supports the idea that the American population at the time felt as though the Roosevelt's understood the daily struggle of living through the depression. These citizens were comfortable confiding in them and sharing their hardships. A belief that the government including the Roosevelt's would provide much–needed relief to the country came with this sense of comfort and intimacy. Not all American citizens, however, wrote to the white house in need of clothes or money. The Works ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the music that people listened to, to the clothing they wore, the people of the 1930s were forced to change their lifestyle. The way people lived changed dramatically during the 1930s due to the Great Depression. Many new musicians were founded during this era. There was a huge switch in the music industry and the genres that existed. For example, two of many new genres were introduced throughout the 30s. Hillbilly folk and Western. The center of this new western music was Texas, where taverns with new jukeboxes or stages entertained patrons. Musicians dressed as cowboys became legendary during this decade. By the end of this generation, western music became a lot more danceable and rowdy (Berg). Hillbilly folk first originated from the Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast. A few folk musicians that prospered this genre were, the Carter Family and the Smoky Mountain Boys. Hillbilly music benefited especially from radio programming like the National Barn Dance and the Grand Ole Opry. As mentioned in "1930s: Music". • 34. Role Of Natural Resources In The 1930s Natural Resources in the 1930s Economic growth comes form the use of natural resources. In the 1930's, natural resources are what fueled the growth of the U.S. economy. The use of resources such as water, timber, coal, oil, and minerals were in very high demand. Even now there is still a market for these resources. The use of natural resources was very high in the 1930's and the possible damage that the use of these resources was of little concern, or not even known at the time. In the 1930s the growth of the U.S. economy would become a burden due to the use of natural resources, how the resources were collected and extracted, and the impact that harvesting had on the environment. The main point of this article, is that the mass consumption and mass production is not always ideal. First, let's start by first introducing the topics which are introduced and their use. The first thing Theilmann covers in each paragraph is the use of natural resources. Again, he mainly concentrates on the U.S. during the thirties. He starts by stating the importance of each resource. He first starts talking about agriculture, water, and timber use and their importance during that time. He starts this topic with a brief, but notable topic sentence. He says, "Agricultural and timber production had long been important American industries. By the 1930's, farmers had increased production of both food crops and market crops, most notably cotton" (Theilmann). He then starts talking about over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
