 Key terminology = Legal, illegal, substances, misuse
 English = Verbally communicating effectively with others,
writing sentences to show your understanding
 British Values = Respect – Following group rules to help
form mutual respect and comfortable learning
environment for everyone
Individual liberty – the freedom to make the choices about
what you want to do in the future
What else can you expect..?
Paper Airplane Game
So that we can get better acquainted with one another, we are going to
throw some paper planes around the room…
You will be given a sheet of A4 paper.
On this sheet ……
• Write your name
• Your favourite food/Most unusual food eaten
• A hobby or interest
• What work or study would you like to do?
• Then fold the sheet of paper into your best airplane.
• When we are all ready, we will commence throwing the airplanes from
one end of the room to see whose airplane reaches the furthest
(These are not to be thrown at each other)
• Pick up someone else’s plane and we will begin to introduce the person
on that plane.
The answer is… YOU, mainly!

responsibility which you will find out
about later

 You have 3 minutes to list as many as possible

Wellbeing - Session 2

  • 2.  Please have a look over your enrolments and assessment booklets  Complete a support form to ensure that we have the levels of support offered in class, right for you Paperwork

  • 4. 1. Take part in icebreaker 2. Re-cap - Identify the FIVE ways to well-being & who is responsible 3. State different ways that you are able to look after your own well-being 4. Share ideas from homework task - State the role of the government in regards to well-being 5.Give examples of legal substances that people misuse 6. Identify dangers associated with legal highs BREAK 7. Give examples of illegal substances that people misuse 8. State why illegal substances may vary in quality and potency 9. Give examples of reasons why people misuse substances 10. List consequences of substance misuse on the body 11. Discuss homework task – Outline differences between psychological and physical drug dependency Session 2
  • 5.  Key terminology = Legal, illegal, substances, misuse  English = Verbally communicating effectively with others, writing sentences to show your understanding  British Values = Respect – Following group rules to help form mutual respect and comfortable learning environment for everyone Individual liberty – the freedom to make the choices about what you want to do in the future What else can you expect..?
  • 6. Paper Airplane Game So that we can get better acquainted with one another, we are going to throw some paper planes around the room… You will be given a sheet of A4 paper. On this sheet …… • Write your name • Your favourite food/Most unusual food eaten • A hobby or interest • What work or study would you like to do? • Then fold the sheet of paper into your best airplane. • When we are all ready, we will commence throwing the airplanes from one end of the room to see whose airplane reaches the furthest (These are not to be thrown at each other) • Pick up someone else’s plane and we will begin to introduce the person on that plane.

  • 8. The answer is… YOU, mainly! The government also have SOME responsibility which you will find out about later Who is responsible for your well- being?
  • 9. Without looking! See if you can get them all… Does anyone remember all of the 5 ways to Wellbeing..?
  • 10. Re-cap - What are the FIVE ways to well-being and what do they mean?
  • 11. Discuss this in pairs and write some ideas down about what YOU are able to do to ensure YOU are looking after your own well- being The five ways to wellbeing hand-out will give you a hand with this How can you look after your own well-being?

You needed to research the role of the government in regards to well-being You should have… Written a few sentences about what the government are doing to promote and support people with their well-being Share these ideas with your table – Write anything extra which you haven’t included Homework

  • 18.  Work in pairs/3’s to create a list of substances which are LEGAL Legal substances
  • 19.  Caffeine  Solvents  Paracetamol  Sugar  Chocolate  Alcohol  Nicotine  Prescribed medication - Oxycontin = legal opiod, Morphine, Valium, Ritalin We should remember that not all MISUSED substances are illegal You may have got…
  • 20.  Use the worksheets on your desk to help you write a sentence or two about what legal highs are and their dangers  Work in pairs/3’s to share what you think so you know you are on the right track What are legal highs..?

  • 22. There are many different types of substances that can be misused. The following group task is designed to help you think about some of the most commonly used/misused .   • 25. Generally speaking types of substance use and misuse can be grouped into the following areas: 1. Experimentation 2. Recreation 3. Dependent 4. Prescribed An individual’s decision to use drugs may stem from any number of factors… Work together to make a list of potential factors from a person’s life that may lead them to use drugs Reasons for misusing substances… Learned Behaviour (parents / carers) Social Deprivation (no jobs / poor housing…) Mental / Physical Health issues Personality type (risk taking…) Trauma (abuse / war…)
