3. INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION
• It would be very easy for us to see special
events purely in social context.
• In the past, many events were largely
personal and private affairs and the
implications of having a special event in a
community were largely social.
• However the social context is only one
element of the events and there are often
other implications.
4. INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION
• We can look back into other
events and there are often other
implications such as Roman
gladiatorial games, or Saturnalia.
• Both these event have religious
and political implications.
5. INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION
• In modern times, social
integration is not the only
outcome of many modern events,
due to the increase in demand
size and complexity, it creates
certain impacts on economic and
political life of that country or
region.
7. SOCIAL IMPLICATIONSSOCIAL IMPLICATIONS
• Human society is complex and interactive,
and all human societies celebrate, whether
they are modern and technological or old and
traditional.
• This means the celebrations which carries
social implications are very diverse.
• The role of events in encouraging social
interaction and celebration of happy
occasions is probably more important in a
society which has result of the following
reasons:
8. SOCIAL IMPLICATIONSSOCIAL IMPLICATIONS
– Modern Media.
– Modern work methods and
– Relative decline of the traditional family structure.
• All the above feels that there is a greater
need of social contact
• Social events can be seen in wider context
for example: to strengthen weak community
structure. Example: Notting hill carnival in
London
9. SOCIAL IMPLICATIONSSOCIAL IMPLICATIONS
• The main impact of any social events,
we have seen that the main impacts
are for events to create better social
interaction, help develop community
cohesion, increase cultural and social
understanding, and important gains
for many communities.
Saturnalia was an ancient Roman festival in honor of the deity Saturn, held on December 17 of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through December 23. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnival atmosphere that overturned Roman social norms: gambling was permitted, and masters provided table service for their slaves.[1] The poet Catullus called it "the best of days."[2]
