growing reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. While southern cities of
Salerno and Naples are singing classic Italian hits like ‘A città ‘e
Pulecenelella, Sicilian capital Palermo and Turin in the north are playing
various musical instruments and setting up DJ sets right in the heart of their
balconies. A heartwarming trend that started in Italy has slowly swept its
popularity all across the world, including Spain, Lebanon, Belgium, and the

In Spain, local police officers in Mallorca took matters into their own hands
by playing the guitar and singing for families to ease the tension while in
quarantine. Families gathered outside of their balconies, clapped, cheered and
sang along as the joyful officer lifted their moods for a few short minutes.
This truly was a beautiful gesture police officers displayed to stand in
solidarity and protection of their people.
In the capital of Spain, Spanish singer Beatriz Berodia attempted to
minimize the somber corona blues by playing a concert from her balcony
3. each night in hopes of entertaining her neighbors in Madrid. “Betta” along
with her guitarist partner, Andrea Capalbo on the adjacent balcony, did not
have a list of specific songs they would play but mentioned on her Instagram
account that they will be taking suggestions of songs in their comments

In one special town in Rome, neighbors enthralled one another with a
revamped version of the folk song Volare, while in Florence opera singer,
Maurizio Marchini, sang the beloved Puccini aria Nessun Dorma from
Turandot.

Videos of Lebanese folks in lockdown have also been surfacing the web in
the past weeks. In the town of Cornet Chehwan, people were filmed singing
the Egyption hit, “Bent El Geran” from their balconies as they filled muffled
streets with exuberant sounds.

Belgium also did its part to entertain their quarantined folks by hosting
balcony concerts as well. Tigran Khanjaryan, who is of Armenian descent,
held a live concert from his balcony to entertain his neighbors. Khanjaryan,
who loves Greek music and the singer Nikos Vertis, sang one of his popular
songs, “If You Are A Star.” Dozens gathered to hear his vocally uplifting
talent stream live and had a wonderful time with their families in their
balconies.
Residents in Brooklyn New York metaphorically got together and shared a
song in solidarity as well. While quarantined in their homes, folks sang
“Juicy” by late Brooklyn-born rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (also known as
Biggie Smalls). As the video went viral on Facebook, it truly grasped the idea

might be in.
