3. People tend to think about managers based on their
position in an organization. This tells us a bit about their
role and the nature of their responsibilities. They were
perceived to be those who told others what to do.
But now it isn’t as simple as it was. The job of manager
has gotten tougher and complicated.
However, the challenges that they have to face and the
rewards that they get after overcoming those obstacles are
what drives so many people to seek the job of a manager.

to strive towards their goals in order to receive

and not all challenges are technical. Manager’s
face all these challenges while working in an
organization.
9. Hierarchy of needs
People are motivated to tackle the
obstacles and challenges because they
need to achieve something and to obtain
something (rewards). Thus the Theory of
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs explains the
levels of needs for the people and is
suited for this concept. The esteem need
for achievement, mastery, independence,
status, dominance, prestige, self-respect,
respect from others can be fulfilled by
completing the challenges of being great
manager that motivates employees.
Self-actualization realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment,
seeking personal growth and peak experiences can be fulfilled by
working for the organization’s goals. These challenges accomplished
will result in appropriate benefits and rewards.
