Charging by conduction occurs when an already charged object touches another object. The electrons will move between the two objects until they have an equal charge. If a charged object touches a neutral object, both objects will have the same resultant charge. If two charged objects touch, they will both become the same charge or neutral as the electrons move between them. Grounding is the process of neutralizing a charged object by connecting it to the Earth, which acts as an infinite source or sink of electrons.
2. Creating a Static Charge
There are 3 ways to create a charge:
1) Friction
by
contact 2) Conduction
3) Induction (without contact)
can be:
i) temporary
ii) permanent
12. Conduction
The electrons move between them so that
each ends with the same charge.

*We always start and end with the same number of
+ve and –ve charges. Protons do not move.

How do charged objects become neutral again?
Where can we get rid of unwanted electrons?
How can we get enough electrons to make a
positive object neutral again?
14. Grounding
Grounding is the process by which a charged object is
neutralized by coming into contact with a large neutral
object.
This is the
symbol for a
ground.
15. Grounding
A ground is considered an infinite sink or
source of e-.
Conduction with our planet
(literally the ground) is the
ultimate way to neutralize
an object.
