3. INTRODUCTION
Kampong Pantai Dalam with an area of 20 acres, is one of
squatter areas in Kuala Lumpur, has been identified for
redevelopment by City Hall of Kuala Lumpur. Before proceed
to planning process, planner
must have conducted a comprehensive study about the
characteristic of the site in order to draw the
best plan. This report is mainly recording the study of land use
and physical characteristic about the site.

Pantai Baru Highway passing through the site, the site is highly

Pantai Dalam KTM railway station gives convenient for
residents to travel using public transport.
Undeveloped forest acts as water catchment area and keep
the air fresh.

20. Opportunity
Development of vast residential houses due to its strategic
location to form lively neighbourhood.
To prepare proper shop house for the existing business owners.
Chance to share the recreation facilities with surrounding
neighbourhood.
Provide more basic infrastructure to serve the community.
To plan an organize road system to connects the houses.
To utilize the natural resources.
21. Weakness
Narrow path, unorganized road system & house arrangement
Existing building built close to each other is at the risk of catching
fire.
Many houses are used to open other businesses and do not get
permit from the authority.
Recreation facilities do not get maintenance and looked like
abandoned by the authority and the residents.
Many undeveloped open space had became the residents
dumping area.
Some houses located too remote or due to the unorganized road
system, it is hard for bus to access.
No school, police station, clinic, post office, bank and other basic
infrastructure found.
Some houses are built on foundation which made of sand-sack
looked very unstable.
22. Threat
Over development may cause various pollution
problems.
The existing business owners are doing small
capital business and not afford to buy the shop
house.
Traffic congestion at the site.
Silt type foundation is not stable during wet, may
cause land slide or erosion.
29. CONCLUSION
Land use as residential area is appropriate and future
development should go in line with it.
Land use as commercial area is potential to develop as formal
commercial center due to its strategic location.
Issues and problems encountered must be taken into
consideration in planning.
