1. Lets learn about algebra with the help of a puzzle.
Guess the missing number 4 - x = 2
Easy stuff right, 4 - 2 = 2
But in algebra, this is a little different.
Missing numbers are replaced by letters, usually x or y
And so we would write 4 - x = 2
And when you solve it, you would write x = 2
It is really this simple.
The letter just represents the number we don’t know just yet,
and it is often called the unknown or the variable.
Why are letters used?
Letters are used because they are easier to write than drawing
boxes.
It also represents, other kinds of boxes, which would otherwise
not need to be drawn.

2. How to Solve
Lets use an example for this one too. Let us say that
x - 2 = 4.
What is x?
Remember that just assuming the answer is not the proper
way of working with algebra.
There is a process involved which is:
First, we want to remove the - 2 To remove it we have to do the
opposite
x - 2 = 4
+ 2
0
Then we have to do it on both sides
x - 2 = 4
+ 2 + 2
0 6

Which gives us
x + 0 = 6
Which means that
x = 6
Why did you add to both sides?
You may be wondering why such a long way of adding on both
sides was used to solve this sum.
The reason being that to keep the balance, what you do to one
side of the "=" you should also do to the other side as well!
