Add and subtract whole numbers power point presentation
1.
2. Today’s lesson is going to teach you how
to add and subtract whole numbers.
To learn how to do this, you will watch
several instructional videos and you will
also get to practice on your own.
After the lesson, you should know how to
add and subtract whole numbers and
maybe even teach your friends how to
do the same!
3. N.MR.02.07
Find the distance between numbers on the
number line, e.g., how far is 79 from 26?
N.MR.02.08
Find missing values in open sentences, e.g.,
42 + ■ = 57; use relationship between
addition and subtraction.
4. Whole numbers are really just…numbers!
(1,2,3,4,5, etc.)
BUT, whole numbers are NOT negative
numbers (-5,-1,-8, etc.)
These are examples of whole numbers:
5. Writing numbers down on a Number Line
makes it easy to tell which numbers are
bigger or smaller.
6. "Natural Numbers" can mean either "Counting Numbers" {1,
2, 3, ...}, or "Whole Numbers" {0, 1, 2, 3, ...}, depending on
the subject.
7. 1 + 1 = 2
Example: If you add 2 and 3 you get 5. You would
write it like this:
2 + 3 = 5
Start with 5 apples,
then subtract 2,
we are left with 3 apples.
