2. INTRODUCTION
Alankaar is a figure of speech which means
ornaments.
Just like the women use ornaments to enhance
her beauty
Alankar in Hindi and other indian language are
used to enhance the beauty of a poem.
Alankar are divide into two groups
(1) Shabdalankar (2) Arthalankar
You might find more Shabdalankar in the indian
poetry
3. Shabdalankar
Shabdalankar came from two word Shabdh
(Word) + Alankar (Ornaments) – Certain
specific words that create an ornamental
effect in a verse and poem
It have been identified by the word of
language
Types of Shabdalankar
1. Anupras (Alliteration), 2. Yamak
(Homonym)
4. 1. Anupras (Alliteration) - A sentence first
word’s first alphabare repeats serially more
than two times
Example-
Hear is repeated more then two times
2. Yamak (Homonym) - when same word
repeats more than once but each time its
meaning is different
Example-
Hear we see two “ “ but its meaning
different
5. Arthalankar
it came from two word Artha (Meaning) +
Alankar (Ornaments) – The meaning of
words that creates the required
enhancement.
TYPES OF ARTHALANKAR
(1) Upma (Simile) - when a person or thing is
compared in words with a similar but famous
or well known person or thing.
Example-
Word “Neetina Akshar” and “Motina Dana”
are different from each other but hear its
shows that it’s a similar
6. Rupak (Metaphor)- when a word is used
for something to which it is not literally
applicable in order to suggest a
resemblance.
Example-
Here, “राम” (God) is suggested
metaphorically as “रतन” (precious stones)
and “धन” (money)
7. Atishyokti (Hyperbole) - when a word
is used of something or someone, to
evoke a strong feelings or to create a
strong impression.
Example –
Aankhe (eyes) that can tear as rain
because the heart has turned into
clouds
8. Shlesh (Pun) - when a word is used
once but it gives more than one
meaning
Example –
Hear first “Javani” mean to go and
second “Javani” mean youth
“Javani” word same but in this sentence
its meaning are different
9. Conclusion
Figure of Speech is use when the form of
an ordinary sentences is changed to
increase the effect or impact of the
message being delivered

A Figure of Speech can be applied through
a single sentence or through a group of
sentences
