LACE DRESSES
Which one of you brides has always wanted and dreamt of having a lace dress? This blog post is
going to inform you on everything you need to know about finding your perfect lace dress. All
fabrics that wedding dresses use are all beautiful, but none of them come close to how romantic and
historical lace is.
Back in history, when a bride would wear lace at her wedding, this demonstrated the wealth of your
family and prosperity. It would tell everyone that you came from a wealthy family and that you
could afford to get married in a lace wedding dress. Things have changed since then, and that is not
what people think of when they attend a wedding. Now you see more lace on a dining room table or
in the house, but you do not see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you don't want to get a long dress with a cathedral train, then don't. Do what you want to do
because when it comes down to it, this day will be all about you. If you have always pictured
yourself in a short, playful wedding dress, then try and find what you have always envisioned. Trust
me, there are some short wedding dresses that are to die for, you may just have to look a little bit
harder. Some of the reasons why brides may choose a short wedding dress over a long and
traditional dress is if the wedding is more informal, on a beach, at a court house, a summer/spring
wedding, or even if the bride just wants to be different!
Short wedding dresses are also becoming very popular for brides that want to have two different
dresses for their big day. They will a formal and elegant dress for their ceremony and then at some
point during their reception, they will switch into a more playful and sexy short dress.

Analysis Of Marilyn Monroe 's ' The Black Evening Gown '
Since women started to become more valued in the workforce, they also wanted to reward
themselves by expressing how they felt through style. The booming designer of the time, Christian
Dior, really helped women find their identify through simple fabrics along with tasteful and simple
designs. Dior took over the closets of all women from the 1940's all the way through the mid 1950's.
The waist became the focal point of the human figure and the bustlines started to raise and take
shape. The shoulders stayed soft with rich fabrics and colors and the length of the dresses and skirts
became effortlessly long and full of life. The most iconic women of this time that really took a grasp
of this era was Marilyn Monroe. In the late 1940's in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Charles James became a highly renowned dress designer of the early to mid 1950's. He constructed
dresses that resembled architect renderings. He considered himself as an artist and a sculptor of
dress rather than a dressmaker. His most well known gown was the Clover Leaf gown (figure 10)
that was commissioned for Austine Hearst in 1953. Hearst wanted to wear this gown for the
Eisenhower Inaugural Ball of 1953. But like most works of art, they take time and sometimes are
not finished by the deadline. Hearst was unable to unveil the gown at the Ball, but instead received
it shortly after.
According to the Met, "Punk" attracted 442,350 visitors over the course of its three–month run. That
makes it one of the five best–attended shows the Met 's Costume Institute has mounted in the last

Miuccia Prada two–hander (339,838 viewers). Nearly 5,000 visitors traipsed through the "Punk"

Great ideas for you to have your wedding can be at the Beach, A Castle, or even a hotel. If you
know it's going to rain than I would suggest not having it at a beach unless you want to get your

too stress out on you
The final step is buying your big ticket items. Getting your dress can make it feel that it is really
going to happen. Bring your idea book with you when you are looking at dress. The wedding agent
can even see what you are looking for and help you with some suggestions on what type of dresses
will look great on you. I would suggest that you bring your shoes and hair piece with you so you get
the best idea how the dress will look. I know that picking dresses may seem daunting but bring a
person that you trust and respect their opinion. Don't forget your bride maid's dresses and your
groom's tuxedos. Another big ticket item is flowers. Talk to your florist about what you want and
arrange them to do the rest of the work. This can be a load taken off your mind knowing that this is
taken care of and will be delivered to your wedding on the day or the day before. Buying materials
either in person or online should be done early on. You don't want to be waiting for them when your

Essay On 1940s Fashion
Fashion, "A popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior".
Clothes change every year and stores are always trying to keep up with today's trends, as much as it
changes fashion still keeps it roots in some areas. Through head of fashion events can change the
style. The booming 1940s was a huge era for change in fashion. With supply shortages during the
time a lot of clothes for both men and woman had to alter. As American was unable to get supplies
from Europe at this time we had to develop more of our own clothing style. This gave America their
chance to strike off on their own. From Woman's, Men's, and children's fashion this is an insight to
the 1940s fashion.
In the 1940s we saw changes in women's fashion that no one had previously seen. Starting in this
time women's shapes went from a straight look to embracing curves as they went for an hour glass
look. As feminine as the look was during this era women were put into the workforce for needed
supplies for the war. Shoulder pads were huge when entering the workforce as woman wanted to
look masculine to match their male peers. The perfect example of this is a popular icon Rosie the
Riveter. Away from the workforce women were able to dress more as themselves however a lot of
skin was still covered. In most cases you only ever saw knee down and arms when woman wore
dresses. However there was an exception to these rules in evening dresses. Wedding dresses can also
slide past these rules

Summary Of The Film Muriel's Wedding
The film Muriel's Wedding is set in the fictional town of Porpoise Spit, Australia and follows the
journey of self–discovery of the young woman Muriel Heslopp. In searching for marriage, the idea
which she thinks will validate her as a person, she finds herself. In the film, the character of Rhonda
helped me to understand the important message that friendship acts as a catalyst for self–discovery.
The director PJ Hogan uses the techniques of music, cinematography and dialogue to help
communicate that idea.
The first technique, music, is used in mainly in the setting of Hibiscus Island, the fictional
honeymoon destination in which Muriel meets Rhonda for the first time since Year 10. Muriel and
Rhonda are performing in a talent show, with the song Waterloo by ABBA. The song symbolises the
real Muriel, who is present in this scene. Rhonda encourages Muriel to be herself, confidently. This
allows Muriel to truly understand who she really is, the beginning of her journey of self–discovery.
The music is particularly significant, with lyrics in the song such as "knowing my fate is to be with
you" which represents the friendship between Rhonda and Muriel. The song Waterloo is significant
as a whole too, because it's about a battle, which symbolises the interior battle of Muriel between
her true self and the self who conforms to societies expectations. Rhonda singing the song with
Muriel foreshadows how Rhonda will help Muriel through her internal battle and help her
eventually reach self–discovery.
The next technique, which is used in several different scenes is cinematography. In the scene in
which Muriel is trying on wedding dresses behind Rhonda's back, cinematography is used to
communicate the message that friendship acts as a catalyst for self–discovery. Just before Rhonda is
about to leave for rehabilitation, she enters Muriel's room and finds a photo album full of
photographs of Muriel in various wedding dresses. The next shot is and Extreme Close–Up (XCU)
on Rhonda's confused face. Her face appears worried and quite puzzled as she tries to figure out
what was going on. This XCU shot shows how much Rhonda cares about Muriel and the extent to
which Rhonda cares about Muriel's wellbeing. Later in that scene,

The Trends And Trends Of The 1960s
Every year, designers present a fall collection. When examining the runway shows and styles
displayed as a whole, one starts to notice multiple trends. Although the designers give people the
trends, the consumer is the deciding factor of what is or is not a trend in everyday life and not just in
the fashion world. There are many different trends, which are categorized into major and minor
trends. Three major trends and forecasts seen numerous times in fall 2014 runway shows and
magazines are plaid, '60s inspired, and fairytale inspired styles. 1960's Inspired Trend. The 1960s
are back in fashion in a huge way. One can see the inspiration from the '60s all over the runway and
retail stores. When looking at forecasts for fall 2014, Trend Council predicted '60s inspired clothing
would be in style during the fall 2014 season. They predicted the styles seen would be elegant shift
dresses, hitting about mid thigh. The shift dress was first introduced in the early 60s and the style
immediately became popular. To consumers in the 1960's, the shift dress represented youth, freedom
and the revolutionary spirit of American young women. Now the shift dress is classy again with a
high neck, long sleeves and neutral colors.
Miu Miu, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are just a few of the high end designers feature '60s
inspired pieces in their collection. Valentino's show had a mod sixties aspect: the shirt–collar
dresses, the embroidered tulle gowns, and capes of all kinds–in lace,

I've passed by the windows of both locations frequently over the years and always saw really pretty
dresses displayed on the mannequins, but for some reason I just never got around to going inside.
Last month I passed by one of the stores and saw a few vibrantly colored sun dresses inside the
window display and decided that I had to go in. Inside I found the store to be a little smaller than I
expected but it was still cute with hardwood floors, pastel colored walls, and soft lighting. Even
though Fashion Tomato was really small, I still found it difficult to find all of the dresses that were
displayed in the windows which were what drew me into the store in the first place. So I did have to
ask one of the sales associated for help on finding what I wanted and she was really friendly and got
me everything I wanted. ] Most of the dresses that I wanted were already sold out in my size, so I
had to browse around to find other things that I wanted. It was at this point that I immediately
realized that Fashion Tomato put out most of their best dresses in the window displays. And the
majority of the rest of the merchandise left in the store was OK, or full out tacky. I saw that a lot of
the dresses and most of the tops at Fashion Tomato were made out of cheap synthetic fabrics, and I
also noticed hanging threads from a few of them. Even though the quality of these clothes was bad
like a store such as Forever 21, I noticed that the prices weren't as cheap as Forever 21. The clothes
ranged from $20 for t–shirts, to $70 or more for some dresses, even though that's not expensive I
thought that Fashion Tomato was definitely over charging for 70% of their clothes. Even though I
really didn't see anything in Fashion Tomato as fabulous as the dresses

In today's blog, we are going to discuss tips to make shopping for your wedding dress as easy and as
stress–free as possible. The first thing you want to do is set up a budget. Plan to spend 10 percent of
your overall wedding budget on your dress. This number is simply a starting point. If dress fashion
is most important, increase the budget for your dress and scale back on other areas. You want to start
the quest for your perfect dress early. Depending on the dress and the designer, it can take time
between the moment the order is placed and when you can bring the gown home. If the dress is
custom made, it can take 4 to 5 months for the designer make the gown. You also want to schedule
three fittings about a month apart. By starting early, it will give you plenty of time to shop and see
what is available. If you are short on time, keep in mind you can expedite this by paying a surcharge
for the gown. In the search for the perfect dress, you want to research what is available. This part of
the process will allow you to think about what kind of dress you want. Look at Bridal magazines,
Pinterest, and bridal related websites. Consider making a folder to house the designs, fabric samples,

My Cultural Identity
My cultural identity, as I know is Mexican American because both my parents are born in Mexico
and I was born here. I can also be defined as a Chicana because that is another way used to call a
Mexican American. My culture can be seen in so many different ways like for example it can be
seen in food, music, religion, dance, art, festivals, and even more. Most of these traditions have
changed a little bit over time as they were brought to the U.S. What I mean by that is that some of
those traditions were brought from Mexico, and had a little change into them because they were
combined with some traditions that have already been here in the U.S.
An example of an important tradition in my culture would be a quinceanera. ... Show more content

After bringing up so many topics like that I came to realize that having a quinceanera is a one in a
lifetime celebration and it will be a memory that I can cherish forever. I was really excited to start
planning. We went to the first banquet hall and I was in love with everything! It was so big with
chandeliers everywhere, colorful lights going off and on, the dancefloor was pretty huge with a
stage so that the band can play there and people can dance, and there were so many tables. I could
just imagine how beautiful it would look once it was all decorated. Then we went to the church
where my mother and father met, and booked the date for the ceremony. Once we booked the date at
the church, I went into the actual church, bent down and I thanked God and the Virgin Mary for
another day of life and for everything to go well as I planned my quinceanera. The mass ceremony
is the most important part of a quinceanera because the Bible and the rosary, the tiara and or crown,
the bouquet of flowers, and the people who accompany a quinceanera hold a spiritual meaning
during the ceremony. The crown and or tiara represents the young woman as a princess in God's
eyes. The Bible and Holy rosary are both foundations of faith and gets blessed with Holy Water.

Fashion In The 1930's
In today's society we focus on clothing more than we focus on our country's problems. We have

How Fashion Trends Can Make You Stand Out
6 Things to remember before going backless
"Trendy is the last stage before tacky" – Karl Lagerfeld
Fashion trends can make you stand out in a dinner party or any party for instance. But it can also be
terrible if handled without care. Fashion is a fire which can enlighten your lifestyle and at the same
time, it can lead to disasters leading you straight into unwelcomed embarrassment.
Crudely, fashion is a style of living. But it is just an art. The portrayal of that art is carried out on a
canvas which is you. Designers may define the fashion, but it is you who define the style. And what
is style? Style is your description before you speak when you enter a room. Before one fashion
grabs a foothold, another one pushes it out. In other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That extra mile is definitely worth the glamorous look you are imagining yourself in.
2. Correct posture
The major wardrobe malfunctions accredited to backless dresses is due to faulty posture. The sassy
look comes with a price. If you are carrying a backless dress, you have to make sure that you do not
slouch or bend to invite unnecessary and embarrassing glances. It is understandable that you want to
feel free during buffets and dances and for posing, but one wrong move can taint the whole evening.
Not just that, If you are from India, you will have to face mumbling voices and questionable looks at
every social gathering you attend thereafter.
3. High hair is a must
Please do not insult the backless dress with open hair sizzling all over your back which you
desperately wanted to expose. I have seen a lot of women do that and I have just two words for them
– "fashion disasters". So, do not become a fashion disaster in someone's mind, even after spending
all your savings on that exotic black dress and then adding your creativity to achieve nothing. Just
sit and let the dress handle elegance. Exaggerate the boldness by folding a high bun. There are
innumerable varieties of buns, and all of them will go well with your dress and will in fact enhance
the effect of the dress. 4. No dead cells please
Going backless and going careless about the dehydrated and dark back at the same time are a loud

Wedding Dress By Maria Mcbride Mellinger
Weddings are bigger than ever –– big business, that is, since the average first–time–married couple
generates more than $ 20,000 in additional retail sales for their engagement, wedding, honeymoon
and during their first year of marriage. For the wedding itself, 16 percent of the average budget is set
aside just for outfitting the bridal party, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of
Commerce. And more than half of that goes just for the bride 's gown and headpiece. But as any
starry–eyed bride will tell you, whatever this dress of a lifetime costs, it 's worth it. "No other dress,"
writes Barbara Tober, former editor of Bride 's and Your New Home magazine in the introduction of
"The Wedding Dress," a history of bridal fashions by Maria McBride–Mellinger, "can match the
poetic heritage of the wedding dress or rival the sentimental attachment each bride has for her gown.
" And she wears it for just one brief, shining moment in her life. A hand–sewn, made–to–measure
gown was once the "representation of the highest standards of a couturier," as Tober describes it, but
even mass manufacturing doesn 't tarnish its special mystique. Confusing as they may be when a
bride is confronted with rack–after–rack of plastic–sheathed satin and lace, this diversity of choice
allows her the luxury of expressing her personal style through her wedding dress. One of the newer
names in the bridal market is Amsale Aberra, who has an unusual background for this line of
fashion. Born in

Marketing Pl River Island And Dorothy Perkins
As part of my secondary research, I have analysed four dresses which are either from my client

me to gain knowledge on what my TMG looks for when buying special occasion dresses and what
other companies do to make their products stand out and be successful in such a big market. I will
take this knowledge into consideration when I design my dress and it will help me to incorporate
features which other companies use to sell their products.
RIVER ISLAND: PINK EMBELLISHED MAXI DRESS
I have decided to look at this dress from River Island as the store is a direct competitor to Topshop.
The shop is popular amongst 14–25 year old females but their prices are a bit higher than what my
client offers. This is shown throughout the company and in their products. River Island sells a
variety of special occasion dresses so the store is one of the first places that my TMG would look at;
by looking at specific aspects of their garments, I will be able to understand what features make it a
successful company and how they make their clothing commercially viable. This dress costs £75
which is reasonable for the high quality of the product. Most special occasion dresses are with in the
£50–£100 price bracket. The price ensures that the garment is suitable for its TMG and it reflects the
high quality of the dress. The garment is made from 100% polyester which is a good material as it

Changes And Changes In The Fashion Of The 1940s

Fashion of 1940s (Draft)
In most cases you only ever saw knee down and arms when woman

Victorian Influence on Women's Fashions Essay
Before Research
Before the Victorian Era, the main focus of fashion was for men. Women's' fashion changed some,
but the general idea of long skirts, tight bodices, and heavy fabrics stayed consistent. Real changes
to style and fashion were not made until about the 1840's, when Queen Victoria came into power.
After her rise to Queen, the fashions began to change dramatically. Pride and Prejudice is a book
written in this time, and the fashion is clearly visible. Looking at fashion of the time can be clear
examples of social customs, role models, and other aspects of the time period.
The question to start off with is how has royalty affected women's fashions through the ages?
Royalty is influential on all sorts of things, so why not fashion? ... Show more content on

The beginning of the civil war in America affected the cotton production, so fabric became more
scarce, leading into the next era, one that used less fabric. The early bustle period featured a
narrower skirt, with gathered fabric on the back. Bodices ended at the natural waist. By 1877, the
bustles had dropped to knees, leading into the Natural Form period. By this time, a tall, slim figure
was born. Dresses were long and the bodice became long and tight. The Late bustle period brought
the bustle back into style. The skirts stayed long and tight, with a large amount of fabric gathered in
the back. The 1890's saw the disappearance of the bustle for good. At this time, skirts became plain,
and the bodice was dressed up with frills and puffed sleeves. The popular "Pigeon Silhouette" of the
Victorian era was born. The Edwardian Period was a time of ultimate femininity. The skirts became
soft and flowing, and the hobble skirt became popular (What is). This was probably the most
interesting part of my research, because I got a deeper look into the world of fashion.
The Queen's Fashion
I now needed to know what Queen Victoria did for fashion in this time period. I learned through my
next source that Queen Victoria and her daughters were often fashion models for women of this
period. Typical outfits of this time consisted of cotton fabrics, as they were in abundant supply and
allowed air into the often heavy fabrics. Day dresses were worn inside the home, and were

Quinceaneras Research Paper
Quinceaneras and the Modern Day Fairytale Marked as a celebration of the transition from
childhood to womanhood, quinceaneras have been a long–standing tradition among Latin American
families. Though "quinceanera" literally means "fifteen year old girl," the term has become more
closely associated with the celebration itself, oftentimes by non–latinx people. Among Latin
American families and culture, the celebration is often referred to as "fiesta de quince años" (fifteen
year party) or simply a "quinces." To avoid any confusion, I use "quinceanera" to refer to the
celebration, rather than the individual, for the remainder of this paper. Historically, fifteen was seen
as the age when Latina girls were ready for marriage, and the quinceanera celebrated that transition.
While modern quinceaneras have drifted away from this initial intent, and now reflect more of a
celebratory coming of age narrative, the marriage and wedding–related symbolism is still apparent.

A majority of wedding dresses purchased in the United States are manufactured outside of the
country. The wedding dress industry relies heavily on the labor of foreign women and girls, often
from China, who work for around $12 a day (Ingraham pp. 70). By extent, this knowledge can be
applied to the quinceanera dress industry. There is a significant labor force present in Latin America
as well, which is somewhat ironic considering the quinceanera dress is a product that will be
marketed to Latin American girls in the United States. The socioeconomic difference between
Latina women in the Latin American labor market versus Latinx families in the US is what allows
for the latter to take advantage of the former. The wedding and quinceanera dress industries rely on
the exploitation of disadvantaged women of color in foreign countries in order to serve and

With supply shortages during the time a lot of clothes for both men and woman had to alter. As American was unable to get supplies from Europe at this time we had to develop more of our own clothing style. This gave America their chance to strike off on their own. From Woman's, Men's, and children's fashion this is an insight to the 1940s fashion. In the 1940s we saw changes in women's fashion that no one had previously seen. Starting in this time women's shapes went from a straight look to embracing curves as they went for an hour glass look. As feminine as the look was during this era women were put into the workforce for needed supplies for the war. Shoulder pads were huge when entering the workforce as woman wanted to look masculine to match their male peers. The perfect example of this is a popular icon Rosie the Riveter. • 10. Summary Of The Film Muriel's Wedding The film Muriel's Wedding is set in the fictional town of Porpoise Spit, Australia and follows the journey of self–discovery of the young woman Muriel Heslopp. In searching for marriage, the idea which she thinks will validate her as a person, she finds herself. In the film, the character of Rhonda helped me to understand the important message that friendship acts as a catalyst for self–discovery. The director PJ Hogan uses the techniques of music, cinematography and dialogue to help communicate that idea. The first technique, music, is used in mainly in the setting of Hibiscus Island, the fictional honeymoon destination in which Muriel meets Rhonda for the first time since Year 10. Muriel and Rhonda are performing in a talent show, with the song Waterloo by ABBA. The song symbolises the real Muriel, who is present in this scene. Rhonda encourages Muriel to be herself, confidently. This allows Muriel to truly understand who she really is, the beginning of her journey of self–discovery. The music is particularly significant, with lyrics in the song such as "knowing my fate is to be with you" which represents the friendship between Rhonda and Muriel. The song Waterloo is significant as a whole too, because it's about a battle, which symbolises the interior battle of Muriel between her true self and the self who conforms to societies expectations. Rhonda singing the song with Muriel foreshadows how Rhonda will help Muriel through her internal battle and help her eventually reach self–discovery. The next technique, which is used in several different scenes is cinematography. Although the designers give people the trends, the consumer is the deciding factor of what is or is not a trend in everyday life and not just in the fashion world. There are many different trends, which are categorized into major and minor trends. Three major trends and forecasts seen numerous times in fall 2014 runway shows and magazines are plaid, '60s inspired, and fairytale inspired styles. 1960's Inspired Trend. The 1960s are back in fashion in a huge way. One can see the inspiration from the '60s all over the runway and retail stores. When looking at forecasts for fall 2014, Trend Council predicted '60s inspired clothing would be in style during the fall 2014 season. They predicted the styles seen would be elegant shift dresses, hitting about mid thigh. The shift dress was first introduced in the early 60s and the style immediately became popular. To consumers in the 1960's, the shift dress represented youth, freedom and the revolutionary spirit of American young women. Now the shift dress is classy again with a high neck, long sleeves and neutral colors. Miu Miu, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are just a few of the high end designers feature '60s inspired pieces in their collection. At business lunches, I could sometimes hear my other colleagues making bets on how ridiculous her next ensemble would be. Fashion–wise, it was safe to say that poor Mandi was inept. Inside I found the store to be a little smaller than I expected but it was still cute with hardwood floors, pastel colored walls, and soft lighting. Even though Fashion Tomato was really small, I still found it difficult to find all of the dresses that were displayed in the windows which were what drew me into the store in the first place. So I did have to ask one of the sales associated for help on finding what I wanted and she was really friendly and got me everything I wanted. ] Most of the dresses that I wanted were already sold out in my size, so I had to browse around to find other things that I wanted. It was at this point that I immediately realized that Fashion Tomato put out most of their best dresses in the window displays. And the majority of the rest of the merchandise left in the store was OK, or full out tacky. I saw that a lot of the dresses and most of the tops at Fashion Tomato were made out of cheap synthetic fabrics, and I also noticed hanging threads from a few of them. Even though the quality of these clothes was bad like a store such as Forever 21, I noticed that the prices weren't as cheap as Forever 21. The clothes ranged from $20 for t–shirts, to $70 or more for some dresses, even though that's not expensive I thought that Fashion Tomato was definitely over charging for 70% of their clothes. Once we booked the date at the church, I went into the actual church, bent down and I thanked God and the Virgin Mary for another day of life and for everything to go well as I planned my quinceanera. The mass ceremony is the most important part of a quinceanera because the Bible and the rosary, the tiara and or crown, the bouquet of flowers, and the people who accompany a quinceanera hold a spiritual meaning during the ceremony. That extra mile is definitely worth the glamorous look you are imagining yourself in. 2. Correct posture The major wardrobe malfunctions accredited to backless dresses is due to faulty posture. The sassy look comes with a price. If you are carrying a backless dress, you have to make sure that you do not slouch or bend to invite unnecessary and embarrassing glances. It is understandable that you want to feel free during buffets and dances and for posing, but one wrong move can taint the whole evening. Not just that, If you are from India, you will have to face mumbling voices and questionable looks at every social gathering you attend thereafter. 3. High hair is a must Please do not insult the backless dress with open hair sizzling all over your back which you desperately wanted to expose. I have seen a lot of women do that and I have just two words for them – "fashion disasters". So, do not become a fashion disaster in someone's mind, even after spending all your savings on that exotic black dress and then adding your creativity to achieve nothing. Just sit and let the dress handle elegance. Exaggerate the boldness by folding a high bun. There are innumerable varieties of buns, and all of them will go well with your dress and will in fact enhance the effect of the dress. 4. • 33. Wedding Dress By Maria Mcbride Mellinger Weddings are bigger than ever –– big business, that is, since the average first–time–married couple generates more than $ 20,000 in additional retail sales for their engagement, wedding, honeymoon and during their first year of marriage. For the wedding itself, 16 percent of the average budget is set aside just for outfitting the bridal party, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce. And more than half of that goes just for the bride 's gown and headpiece. But as any starry–eyed bride will tell you, whatever this dress of a lifetime costs, it 's worth it. "No other dress," writes Barbara Tober, former editor of Bride 's and Your New Home magazine in the introduction of "The Wedding Dress," a history of bridal fashions by Maria McBride–Mellinger, "can match the poetic heritage of the wedding dress or rival the sentimental attachment each bride has for her gown. " And she wears it for just one brief, shining moment in her life. A hand–sewn, made–to–measure gown was once the "representation of the highest standards of a couturier," as Tober describes it, but even mass manufacturing doesn 't tarnish its special mystique. Confusing as they may be when a bride is confronted with rack–after–rack of plastic–sheathed satin and lace, this diversity of choice allows her the luxury of expressing her personal style through her wedding dress. One of the newer names in the bridal market is Amsale Aberra, who has an unusual background for this line of fashion. Born in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Marketing Pl River Island And Dorothy Perkins As part of my secondary research, I have analysed four dresses which are either from my client 'Topshop 'or direct competitors such as River Island and Dorothy Perkins. This research will enable me to gain knowledge on what my TMG looks for when buying special occasion dresses and what other companies do to make their products stand out and be successful in such a big market. I will take this knowledge into consideration when I design my dress and it will help me to incorporate features which other companies use to sell their products. RIVER ISLAND: PINK EMBELLISHED MAXI DRESS I have decided to look at this dress from River Island as the store is a direct competitor to Topshop. The shop is popular amongst 14–25 year old females but their prices are a bit higher than what my client offers. This is shown throughout the company and in their products. River Island sells a variety of special occasion dresses so the store is one of the first places that my TMG would look at; by looking at specific aspects of their garments, I will be able to understand what features make it a successful company and how they make their clothing commercially viable. This dress costs £75 which is reasonable for the high quality of the product. Most special occasion dresses are with in the £50–£100 price bracket. The price ensures that the garment is suitable for its TMG and it reflects the high quality of the dress. The garment is made from 100% polyester which is a good material as it resists ... • 39. Changes And Changes In The Fashion Of The 1940s Amya Campbell Per .6 Fashion of 1940s (Draft) Fashion, "A popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior". Clothes change every year and stores are always trying to keep up with today's trends, as much as it changes fashion still keeps it roots in some areas. Through head of fashion events can change the style. The booming 1940s was a huge era for change in fashion. Away from the workforce women were able to dress more as themselves however a lot of skin was still covered. In most cases you only ever saw knee down and arms when woman ... • 40. Victorian Influence on Women's Fashions Essay Before Research Before the Victorian Era, the main focus of fashion was for men. Women's' fashion changed some, but the general idea of long skirts, tight bodices, and heavy fabrics stayed consistent. Real changes to style and fashion were not made until about the 1840's, when Queen Victoria came into power. After her rise to Queen, the fashions began to change dramatically. Pride and Prejudice is a book written in this time, and the fashion is clearly visible. Looking at fashion of the time can be clear examples of social customs, role models, and other aspects of the time period. The question to start off with is how has royalty affected women's fashions through the ages? Royalty is influential on all sorts of things, so why not fashion? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beginning of the civil war in America affected the cotton production, so fabric became more scarce, leading into the next era, one that used less fabric. The early bustle period featured a narrower skirt, with gathered fabric on the back. Bodices ended at the natural waist. By 1877, the bustles had dropped to knees, leading into the Natural Form period. By this time, a tall, slim figure was born. Dresses were long and the bodice became long and tight. The Late bustle period brought the bustle back into style. The skirts stayed long and tight, with a large amount of fabric gathered in the back. The 1890's saw the disappearance of the bustle for good. At this time, skirts became plain, and the bodice was dressed up with frills and puffed sleeves. The popular "Pigeon Silhouette" of the Victorian era was born. The Edwardian Period was a time of ultimate femininity. The skirts became soft and flowing, and the hobble skirt became popular (What is). This was probably the most interesting part of my research, because I got a deeper look into the world of fashion. The Queen's Fashion I now needed to know what Queen Victoria did for fashion in this time period. I learned through my next source that Queen Victoria and her daughters were often fashion models for women of this period. Typical outfits of this time consisted of cotton fabrics, as they were in abundant supply and allowed air into the often heavy fabrics. Day dresses were worn inside the home, and were ... • 41. Quinceaneras Research Paper Quinceaneras and the Modern Day Fairytale Marked as a celebration of the transition from childhood to womanhood, quinceaneras have been a long–standing tradition among Latin American families. Though "quinceanera" literally means "fifteen year old girl," the term has become more closely associated with the celebration itself, oftentimes by non–latinx people. Among Latin American families and culture, the celebration is often referred to as "fiesta de quince años" (fifteen year party) or simply a "quinces." To avoid any confusion, I use "quinceanera" to refer to the celebration, rather than the individual, for the remainder of this paper. Historically, fifteen was seen as the age when Latina girls were ready for marriage, and the quinceanera celebrated that transition. While modern quinceaneras have drifted away from this initial intent, and now reflect more of a celebratory coming of age narrative, the marriage and wedding–related symbolism is still apparent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A majority of wedding dresses purchased in the United States are manufactured outside of the country. The wedding dress industry relies heavily on the labor of foreign women and girls, often from China, who work for around $12 a day (Ingraham pp. 70). By extent, this knowledge can be applied to the quinceanera dress industry. There is a significant labor force present in Latin America as well, which is somewhat ironic considering the quinceanera dress is a product that will be marketed to Latin American girls in the United States. The socioeconomic difference between Latina women in the Latin American labor market versus Latinx families in the US is what allows for the latter to take advantage of the former. The wedding and quinceanera dress industries rely on the exploitation of disadvantaged women of color in foreign countries in order to serve and highlight the femininity of American ...
