Example: I like to play soccer.
Review of verbs forms after other verbs by
using an infinitive or a gerund without
changing the meaning.
 The verbs:
Verb forms after other verbs.
• love
• like
• hate
• prefer
are followed by a to–infinitive or the –ing form (gerunds).
Verbs: love, like, hate, prefer, would like
with to- infinitive
I love to play soccer.
I like to studyEnglish.
I hate to listen rock music.
I prefer to cook.
Subject + verb (love / like / hate / prefer) + to + verb + c.
Structure
It is followed by to + infinitive
Example:
I’d like to eat pizza.
I would like to eat pizza.

Verbs: love, like, hate, prefer with –ing
form (gerunds)
I love playing volleyball.
I like studying English.
I hate listening rock music.
I prefer cooking.
Subject + verb (love / like / hate / prefer) + verb (-ing) + c.
Structure
The verb enjoy is followed
by the -ing form (gerunds).
Example:
I enjoy going for a walk.

Verb forms and pronouns
