Dangers Of Texting And Driving
Danger of Driving Under an Influence In the newspaper and television news cast people see the
devastation that a teenager recently died in a car accident due to the fact they were texting their best
friend. This moment is very depressing to all of teens friends and families. If only he or she was not
texting and waited to text them at a stop light or when they arrived at their destination. With the
advancements of technology in the world cars are trying to prevent these such actions but everyone
finds a way to text that certain someone back. Texting however is not the only negative to driving.
Many young adults drive under the influence of alcohol. Even though there are laws for driving
under such conditions the young adult still continues to break the law. These are two examples of
horrific actions behind the wheel of a vehicle. Texting behind the wheel put the driver in a condition
where they are not looking at the road. While drinking and driving delays the reaction time of the
driver. Both of these situations are dangerous distractions for the driver and can result in an accident
or even death. Back when texting on phones was not popular many accidents were caused by
drinking and driving. Even though texting and driving is becoming more heard of drinking and
driving still occurs. Drinking and driving is still illegal today, once someone has reached the limited
level of 0.08% blood level concentrate. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration there

Auto Mechanic Essay
Car repairs are inevitable. When a vehicle is serviced, or repaired it is a matter of safety and
convenience that the repairs are done properly by a qualified auto mechanic. As the vehicle owner, it
helps to have some knowledge of common car repairs and what to expect. However, it is just as
helpful to know that the mechanic has done a proper job with the repairs.
Auto mechanics are specially trained individuals in automobile maintenance. They can diagnose and
service any type of automobile, and have the certification and training to prove it. Although there is
one main automotive organization that evaluates auto mechanic training programs against industry
standards, there are several different certifications and skill levels; there is another organization that
tests and certifies mechanics based on the industry standards. Most technicians are trained in one of
four fields: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, some national chains will focus only on oil changes, tire rotations, or tune–ups because
these kind of repairs only require minimal skill and training; these chains will often hire employees
and train them within. In fact, many vehicle owners have learned to do this type of servicing
themselves in order to save money. To insure the servicing is done properly, there is always a
certified mechanic working in the shop to double–check the mechanic's work.
These repair outlets tend to be less expensive than the other chains because they save money on
wages by having only one certified mechanic, which allows them to pass the savings on to the
customer. Other repairs such as brakes, steering and suspension, and the cooling system will require
a more knowledgeable technician, and there are reliable auto repair chains that focus on this level of
expertise. There are many advantages to visiting one of these trusted national chains instead of an

A Magneto Rheological Shock Absorber
A magneto rheological shock absorber or magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with
magneto rheological fluid, which is controlled by magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet.
This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by
varying the current in the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has found applications in
semi–active vehicle suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are driven by
continuous sensor monitoring and also with prosthetic limbs. Fig. No.1. Magneto Rheological
damper
Above figure shows the schematic of magneto rheological damper which is consist of cylinder,
piston, piston rod and electrical winding. There are three types of the magneto rheological damper
are,
Mono tube MR damper
Twin tube MR damper
Double–ended MR damper
MONO TUBE MR DAMPER
From the three types, the mono tube is the most common since it can be installed in any direction
and it is small in size. A mono tube MR damper, shown in Figure, has only one store for the MR
fluid and it is associated with accumulator mechanism to accommodate the changes in volume that
results from piston rod movement. The accumulator piston is used for providing a barrier between
the MR fluid and a compressed gas (usually nitrogen) that is used for accommodating the volume
changes of liquid that occur when the piston rod enters the housing. Fig. No.2.Mono tube MR

The Importance Of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Samaj vassar
"Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It's coming up with ideas, testing principles
and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly" (Dyson). You may find yourself asking,
"What is engineering?" It is defined as "the application of science and mathematics by which the
properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people" (Merriam
Webster). However, there has always been one specific aspect that interests me, and that is
mechanical engineering and its impact on the world. Oddly enough, when you ask what mechanical
engineering is you'll get hundreds of different answers. Although, there is a pretty unanimous

Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy
Recommendations
While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before
we achieve fully self–driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to
advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy.
Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below,
most of them are still in the early stage of the S–curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing
and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially
when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous
innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to
address technical issues.
Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger
and responds either by pre–charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle
without any driver input.
Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle's stability by detecting and
minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC
compares the driver's intended direction to the vehicles actual direction.
Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. It
also maintains a set of distance between it and the car in front. It needs a

The Development Of Carbon Fibre
The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely
strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design,
and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon
fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and
gearbox, all twenty–two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of
carbon fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon
fibre in manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is
five times stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to
each other when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with
the forces that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going
through the object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge
advantage in car production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components
reduces the weight of the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car's fuel
consumption by 30% and reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a
detailed table of the strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a

Communication Is The Gap Between Certainty And Doubt Essay
Communication bridges the gap between certainty and doubt. The automotive industry demands
clear and effective communication. A doubtful and uncertain customer may feel unsafe in their
vehicle. Here we evaluate the power of communication in the automotive industry and how it is
achieved. As an auto shop sales associate, what I go over with the mechanic determines what I relay
to the customer. Communication, or a message, often travels like a waterfall; rapidly breaking down
as its passed over to the next receiver. It is up to me to ensure the correct information is passed on as
clear as it was to me. This is done in a number of ways through language, gestures, visual
description, and emotion.
Drawing ideas and information from multiple sources, we will analyze four critical communication
factors. By the end of this paper, you will fully understand the importance of communication within
the automotive service industry. Ultimately, think of how these following lessons can be applied to
your profession.
"Sir? We've got your vehicle all figured out. Everything under the hood is looking great. There are a
few things though you should be aware of." Every vehicle owner dreads those last words. It stands
between the common $1,000 service bill and use of this year's tax return. The automotive service
industry streamlines billions of dollars and ensures the safety of millions of lives. What the customer
hears from the service writer is important, and what the service writer

focusing on key theft and its effectiveness and commonality among offenders. (Copes and
Cherbonneau, 2010.) The authors obtained the information used in the study from interviews with
two groups. The first group was comprised of 42 individuals on community supervision within a
metropolitan Tennessee area. The other group was made up of 12 incarcerated auto thieves from
Louisiana. The individuals interviewed had varied skill levels and backgrounds. The authors

Conclusion Regardless of the technological advances and efforts made by automobile
manufacturers, the burden of responsibility in preventing automobile theft by use of key lies on the
owner of the vehicle rather than on the thief. By reducing the number of opportunities presented to
offenders, theft will indefinitely decline. It is common sense that the occurrences of most crimes can
be greatly reduced through proactive rather than reactive measures.

Email: kirtidahiya7009@gmail.com
Abstract: A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system designed to reduce the
rigorousness of a collision. Also known as precrash system, forward collision warning system, or
collision mitigating system. It uses radar and sometimes laser and camera to detect an imminent
crash. Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning to the driver when there is
an imminent collision or take action autonomously without any driver input by braking or steering
or both. Collision avoidance by braking is appropriate at low vehicle speeds. while collision
avoidance is suitable at higher vehicle speeds.[1] Cars with collision avoidance may also be
equipped with adaptive cruise control, and use the same forward–looking sensors. Keywords:
collision, congested, Traffic safety, transmission, sensor networks .
Introduction: Collision Avoidance systems, a subsequent step to collision mitigation, are one of the
great challenges in the area of active safety for road vehicles. In India the total annual deaths due to
road accidents has crossed 1.18 lakh, according to the latest report of National Crime Records
Bureau (NCRB). If these deficiencies are not controlled at early stages they might cause huge
economical problems affecting the road side networks. The main part of the work was to carry out a

In the case of semi–active suspensions with sequential damping, the damping forces are zero or
rather very small as long as the sprung mass is moving away from its static equilibrium position and
suddenly increases when the system is returning to the static equilibrium position. The basic idea of
this semi–active control strategy is to balance the elastic force by the damping force in order to
reduce or even to cancel the forces transmitted through the suspension as long as the spring and

Semi–active control systems combine the best features of the passive and active ones. They have
almost the same environmental robustness, mechanical simplicity and low cost as passive devices
and can offer the adaptability of active control systems without requiring the associated large power
sources.
In this paper the effect of semi–active suspension with Magneto–rheological fluid to control the
damping characteristic of the system and balanced logic on which the system works is presented.
The damping characteristics are controlled by modulation of fluid–flow orifices, dry friction forces,
electric or magnetic field applied to electro rheological or magneto rheological fluid dampers. The
balance logic is assumed to be achieved with a variable dry friction damper controlled by the
modulation of the normal force applied on the friction plates. For the models with semi–active dual–
rate dampers, the value of the equivalent suspension damping coefficient is a function of the relative
velocity of the sprung mass with respect to the wheel subsystem.
Key Words: Transmissibility factor, Magneto–rheological fluid, Sequential damping

A Brief Note On Design An Electric Vehicle
Introduction
Detail of Project
Introduction
The project is to design an electric vehicle that has to be road worthy and comfortable to drive off
road as well. We are doing These because it is the future of Automobile industry. These is fully
ecofriendly and these is one of the best solution to decrease the carbon emission in our environment.
EV which we are design is Fully built from Scratch, which is look like a Wheelie jeep. Because its
roadworthy so we have design this car under the concern of the New Zealand Transport rules and
regulation. The car is two doors with two Seating capacity. we have to make it lighter and off road
drive so we choose the poly carbonate shell material. The car is fully electrically automated with
electric power steering and some other feature. It also has an Electrical winch which is detachable at
front or back. It is a four–wheel drive and with high torque and doesn't produce any excessive
sound. The car has a AC motor as drivetrain and the energy source for drive is a lithium Batteries
which is highly efficient as compared to other battery. We design good breaking system because
electric motor has a very high acceleration as compared to CI cars. EVS running cost is much lower
and very less maintenance. It has a range of 80 km per charge and it can be charge in your garage
240 V plug socket. The money spent on the EVs has reasonable and payback to us.

ABS Anti–lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system, that allows the wheels on a
motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while
braking. Preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled
skidding, it is an automated system that uses the principles of threshold braking and cadence braking
which were practiced by skillful drivers with previous generation braking systems. It does this at a
much faster rate and with better control than a driver could manage.
ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and also decreases stopping distances on dry and
slippery surfaces for many drivers, however, on loose surfaces like gravel or snow–covered
pavement, ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still improving vehicle control.

manufacturers to create safer vehicles, and on construction companies to create safer roadways.
Matthew Jensen wrote a dissertation for the Graduate School of Clemson University titled, A
Methodology for the Analysis of In–vehicle Operating Data and Design of Intelligent Vehicle
Systems for Improved Automotive Safety. In his abstract, Jensen evaluated the future of vehicle
manufacturing and traffic–related incidents. Of course, every year more vehicles are manufactured,
which in theory means the number of miles driven in vehicles increases. He points out how the
World Health Organization (WHO) found that automobile crashes was the ninth ... Show more

Generally speaking the items taken into account as vehicle speed, RPM, and throttle position as well
as many other parameters. More recently developers to begin using accelerometer and global
positional systems (GPS) to provide feedback to the driver (Jensen). Yet another critical component
of safe driving is the human–vehicle interface (HVI), very similar to the human computer interface/
interaction (HCI). HVI is used to produce sounds, visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as
the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction
environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means
of receiving feedback are visual. Since the introduction of HVI "the cost for real–time control
systems decreases" and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve decision–
making response time (Jensen).
The article describes three formats of in–vehicle feedback; visual, haptic, and audio. Each of the
three formats to be broke down into various systems and functions. Very similar to a database
containing tables, rows, and attributes. In the visual table, there are four rows one of which is the
dashboard. The dashboard contains several aids including gauges, on–board diagnostics, GPS, and
lamps. The haptic table contains the break/ throttle row, were pedal pulsation will notify the operator
of activated antilock–brakes or traction control. Jensen

Case Study Of Proton
POOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MARKETING PLAN IN THE REAL WORLD It all started
with Proton's chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil expressing his disappointment to Business
Times, saying Malaysians are not supporting Proton, a product made from our national pride.
Comparing against the Japanese and Korean markets, which have strong support from their
domestic market, the chairman could not understand why Malaysians would rather pick other
models despite Proton achieving improvements in their products and technology a statement was
later issued by Khamil that the remark was taken out of context and he did not mean what is being
implicated. Perception Malaysia was a very different place then and for the general populace, there

Why Is Seatbelts Important
Nowadays, most people own cars and many people are riding cars on a daily basis. Although we
sometimes hear on the news about people dying by car accidents, there are much more cases when
people are not injured by car accidents thanks to the range of safety equipment designed to keep the
people on the car safe in the event of a car crash. The range of safety equipment is supported in the
background by the modern advanced science. First of all, seatbelts are installed in every kind of car
that is being sold. Seatbelts take a very important role in cars because it works in many ways to
protect the passengers from danger and car accidents. One of the reasons why seatbelts are
important is because seatbelts reduce the speed of a body of a passenger as it gets an experience of
an abrupt decreasing of speed. Since the velocity of the car and the passenger is independent, even
when the car crashed into a wall and the velocity suddenly decreases to zero, the body of a
passenger will want to still move forwards. The second reason is that seatbelts prevent passengers
from slamming parts of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The antilock braking system was made to support the driver to control some steering dexterity and

and became a major equipment of a mobile in cars that were sold in Canada. The antilock braking
system allows the driver to keep control of the car and uses wheel speed sensor to take a decision
whether any wheels are trying to lock up during the action of braking. Then the system works a
series of hydraulic valves restrict or decrease the braking on those wheels, which prevents skidding

Shifting gear to gear and racing down the street can be very fun. But in order to be able to actually
shift the gears and get the vehicle to move, their are many steps involved. With the perfection of
these steps you will be able to drive the vehicle smoothly and efficiently. The equipment that will be
needed for this process is usually the same for every vehicle. At a minimum, you will need an open
lot, a hill near by, and a manual transmission vehicle. Once you get the necessary equipment, it is
time to get in the driver's seat of the vehicle. Once you are in the driver's seat of the vehicle, grab
onto the gear lever and move it left to right a couple of times. If the lever is moving side to side, the

To shift from first gear to second gear, you will depress the clutch all the way down, and move the
gear lever straight down into second gear. If the gear lever goes into neutral, second gear is all the

clutch is out, give the vehicle gas and continue to keep driving. Continue to watch the RPM gauge is
second gear as well. When it gets back up to 3000–3500 it is time to shift gears again. Push the

sequential gearboxes Essay
Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES
Abstract
This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the
sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing
industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of
discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the
advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely
revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the
majority of the population will be able to experience.

How Sequential Gearboxes Work
In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by
the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables
him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the
rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished.
Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks
that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift
lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the
gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves
cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum
is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the
grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one
increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves
in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be
done in order; this means that no gears can be

Mexico Is The Second Largest Economy Of Latin America Essay
According to the World Bank (2016), "Mexico is the second largest economy in Latin America"
(Iliff, 2016). Mexico is one of the largest auto producers and exporters. "Mexico, produced 3.4
million vehicles in 2015, raking seventh largest vehicle producer in the world and first in Latin
America" (Administration, I. T. (2016). Automotive manufacturing is growing, and large automotive
companies such as Nissan, Mazda, Volkswagen, and GM, who have plants already established in
Mexico, are now planning to expand their facilities. Half of the cars sold in Mexico are made there,
and the other half is imported (Iliff, 2016). The business cultural environment in Mexico consists of
families driving small old 1990's pick–up trucks. In Mexico, owning a pick–up means a lot, because
this type of cars are used for family, affordability, durability, efficiency, and convenience. Some
include Nissan King Cab, Ford F–150, and Chevy Cheyenne and Silverado. As of 2015, Mexico has
broken a new record of new vehicle sales of 1.38 million units, a 19% gain since 2014 and
decreased used vehicles sales import of 180,000 from 1.6 million. "The future consumption is
expected to increase by 500,000 units and could reach up 2 millions units" (Iliff, 2016). Mexico had
freely imported used vehicles from the United States, and due to that, there was a large demand for
used cars. The industry officials argue, "A crush of used cars hurts new cars. If a customer can not

Cars with built–in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high
cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available.
Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can
actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle
will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is
that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc.
which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product,
we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of
parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used
cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built–in car safety. To visualize how
large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on
teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that
stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years
old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached

Modern Vehicle and Suspension System
Introduction
A suspension system is required to operate efficiently in various operating conditions, such as high
speed cornering, accelerating and braking. A Suspension system is used to absorb the vibrations
caused by the road roughness. It is designed to improve the comfort in a vehicle, and also handling
performance. The main design features of a suspension system are the optimization of the friction
between the contact patch of the tyre and the road surface, and to deliver vehicle stability. The
system has to permit the distribution of forces generated by the wheels in contact with the ground. A
suspension system has to comply with the specifications of the design in every load condition.
A suspension system has a great importance in vehicle behaviour. Stability, handling or road holding
characteristics and also comfort, are influenced by the design of the suspension system. Generally,
there are two main types of suspension systems: Independent (McPherson, Double Wishbone,
Multilink, etc.) and Dependent suspension type (Hotchkiss, trailing arm–rigid axle) (the automotive
chassis). The motion of the wheels in a dependent type suspension, as the name suggest, is
dependent on the motion of the partner wheel. As an example, the effect of an impact is transmitted
to the other wheel, having a negative effect on the ride and handling of the vehicle. The wheel
motion in an independent suspension is not influencing the partner wheel. Any disturbances in the
wheel are not

Introduction: In order to conserve natural resources and economize energy, weight reduction has
been the main focus of automobile manufacturers. Weight reduction can be achieved primarily by
the introduction of better material, design optimization and better manufacturing processes. The
achievement of weight reduction with adequate improvement of mechanical properties has made
composite a very good replacement material for conventional steel. A composite is composed of a
high performance fibers such as carbon, Kevlar, graphite or glass in a matrix material that when
combined provides better properties compared with the individual materials by themselves. The
composite materials are used in structural application areas, such as in aircraft, space, automotive,
for sporting goods, and marine engineering. The various type of glass fibers available are Carbon
fiber, C–glass, S–glass and E–glass. However, carbon epoxy material is better than other fibers but
because of its high cost, it has limited applications. Favorable relation between cost and properties
of a material can be obtained with E–glass fiber/epoxy. The major step of composite in automotive
business is extension of use in to truly structural application such as primary body structure and to

Dangers Of Texting And Driving

  • 1. Dangers Of Texting And Driving Danger of Driving Under an Influence In the newspaper and television news cast people see the devastation that a teenager recently died in a car accident due to the fact they were texting their best friend. This moment is very depressing to all of teens friends and families. If only he or she was not texting and waited to text them at a stop light or when they arrived at their destination. With the advancements of technology in the world cars are trying to prevent these such actions but everyone finds a way to text that certain someone back. Texting however is not the only negative to driving. Many young adults drive under the influence of alcohol. Even though there are laws for driving under such conditions the young adult still continues to break the law. These are two examples of horrific actions behind the wheel of a vehicle. Texting behind the wheel put the driver in a condition where they are not looking at the road. While drinking and driving delays the reaction time of the driver. Both of these situations are dangerous distractions for the driver and can result in an accident or even death. • 3. Auto Mechanic Essay Car repairs are inevitable. When a vehicle is serviced, or repaired it is a matter of safety and convenience that the repairs are done properly by a qualified auto mechanic. As the vehicle owner, it helps to have some knowledge of common car repairs and what to expect. However, it is just as helpful to know that the mechanic has done a proper job with the repairs. Auto mechanics are specially trained individuals in automobile maintenance. They can diagnose and service any type of automobile, and have the certification and training to prove it. Although there is one main automotive organization that evaluates auto mechanic training programs against industry standards, there are several different certifications and skill levels; there is another organization that tests and certifies mechanics based on the industry standards. Most technicians are trained in one of four fields: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, some national chains will focus only on oil changes, tire rotations, or tune–ups because these kind of repairs only require minimal skill and training; these chains will often hire employees and train them within. In fact, many vehicle owners have learned to do this type of servicing themselves in order to save money. To insure the servicing is done properly, there is always a certified mechanic working in the shop to double–check the mechanic's work. These repair outlets tend to be less expensive than the other chains because they save money on wages by having only one certified mechanic, which allows them to pass the savings on to the customer. Other repairs such as brakes, steering and suspension, and the cooling system will require a more knowledgeable technician, and there are reliable auto repair chains that focus on this level of expertise. There are many advantages to visiting one of these trusted national chains instead of an unknown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Magneto Rheological Shock Absorber A magneto rheological shock absorber or magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with magneto rheological fluid, which is controlled by magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet. This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by varying the current in the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has found applications in semi–active vehicle suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are driven by continuous sensor monitoring and also with prosthetic limbs. Fig. No.1. Magneto Rheological damper Above figure shows the schematic of magneto rheological damper which is consist of cylinder, piston, piston rod and electrical winding. There are three types of the magneto rheological damper are, Mono tube MR damper Twin tube MR damper Double–ended MR damper MONO TUBE MR DAMPER From the three types, the mono tube is the most common since it can be installed in any direction and it is small in size. A mono tube MR damper, shown in Figure, has only one store for the MR fluid and it is associated with accumulator mechanism to accommodate the changes in volume that results from piston rod movement. The accumulator piston is used for providing a barrier between the MR fluid and a compressed gas (usually nitrogen) that is used for accommodating the volume changes of liquid that occur when the piston rod enters the housing. • 9. The Importance Of Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Samaj vassar "Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It's coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly" (Dyson). You may find yourself asking, "What is engineering?" It is defined as "the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people" (Merriam Webster). However, there has always been one specific aspect that interests me, and that is mechanical engineering and its impact on the world. Oddly enough, when you ask what mechanical engineering is you'll get hundreds of different answers. Although, there is a pretty unanimous misconception about this subfield; ... Wang described cyclones as "...one of the most utilized drives for solid gas separation. It works by forcing gaseous suspensions to flow spirally within a confined space so that the particles are expelled toward the wall of the vessel by centrifugal; force... cyclones have a wide range of industrial applications either in product recovery or gas cleaning" (Wang, 98). By doing so, cyclones help to remove particulate matter which is is a complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets that get into the air. • 11. Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy Recommendations While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we achieve fully self–driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy. Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S–curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to address technical issues. Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger and responds either by pre–charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle without any driver input. Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle's stability by detecting and minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC compares the driver's intended direction to the vehicles actual direction. Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. It also maintains a set of distance between it and the car in front. It needs a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Development Of Carbon Fibre The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design, and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and gearbox, all twenty–two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of carbon fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon fibre in manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is five times stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to each other when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with the forces that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going through the object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge advantage in car production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components reduces the weight of the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car's fuel consumption by 30% and reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a detailed table of the strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a leading 21st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A doubtful and uncertain customer may feel unsafe in their vehicle. Here we evaluate the power of communication in the automotive industry and how it is achieved. As an auto shop sales associate, what I go over with the mechanic determines what I relay to the customer. Communication, or a message, often travels like a waterfall; rapidly breaking down as its passed over to the next receiver. It is up to me to ensure the correct information is passed on as clear as it was to me. This is done in a number of ways through language, gestures, visual description, and emotion. Drawing ideas and information from multiple sources, we will analyze four critical communication factors. By the end of this paper, you will fully understand the importance of communication within the automotive service industry. Ultimately, think of how these following lessons can be applied to your profession. "Sir? We've got your vehicle all figured out. Everything under the hood is looking great. There are a few things though you should be aware of." Every vehicle owner dreads those last words. It stands between the common $1,000 service bill and use of this year's tax return. The automotive service industry streamlines billions of dollars and ensures the safety of millions of lives. Chapter Summary: In this study, the authors address the issue of automotive theft, specifically focusing on key theft and its effectiveness and commonality among offenders. (Copes and Cherbonneau, 2010.) The authors obtained the information used in the study from interviews with two groups. The first group was comprised of 42 individuals on community supervision within a metropolitan Tennessee area. The other group was made up of 12 incarcerated auto thieves from Louisiana. The individuals interviewed had varied skill levels and backgrounds. The authors identified various methods used to obtain the vehicles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conclusion Regardless of the technological advances and efforts made by automobile manufacturers, the burden of responsibility in preventing automobile theft by use of key lies on the owner of the vehicle rather than on the thief. By reducing the number of opportunities presented to offenders, theft will indefinitely decline. It is common sense that the occurrences of most crimes can be greatly reduced through proactive rather than reactive measures. References: Copes, H. & Cherbonneau, M. (2010). • 24. Collision Avoidance System : An Automobile Safety System CAR COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM Kirti Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Haryana (India) Email: kirtidahiya7009@gmail.com Abstract: A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system designed to reduce the rigorousness of a collision. Also known as precrash system, forward collision warning system, or collision mitigating system. It uses radar and sometimes laser and camera to detect an imminent crash. Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning to the driver when there is an imminent collision or take action autonomously without any driver input by braking or steering or both. Collision avoidance by braking is appropriate at low vehicle speeds. while collision avoidance is suitable at higher vehicle speeds.[1] Cars with collision avoidance may also be equipped with adaptive cruise control, and use the same forward–looking sensors. Keywords: collision, congested, Traffic safety, transmission, sensor networks . Introduction: Collision Avoidance systems, a subsequent step to collision mitigation, are one of the great challenges in the area of active safety for road vehicles. In India the total annual deaths due to road accidents has crossed 1.18 lakh, according to the latest report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). If these deficiencies are not controlled at early stages they might cause huge economical problems affecting the road side networks. The main part of the work was to carry out a feasibility ... Acropolis Technical Campus, Indore (M.P.) In the case of semi–active suspensions with sequential damping, the damping forces are zero or rather very small as long as the sprung mass is moving away from its static equilibrium position and suddenly increases when the system is returning to the static equilibrium position. The basic idea of this semi–active control strategy is to balance the elastic force by the damping force in order to reduce or even to cancel the forces transmitted through the suspension as long as the spring and elastic forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Semi–active control systems combine the best features of the passive and active ones. They have almost the same environmental robustness, mechanical simplicity and low cost as passive devices and can offer the adaptability of active control systems without requiring the associated large power sources. In this paper the effect of semi–active suspension with Magneto–rheological fluid to control the damping characteristic of the system and balanced logic on which the system works is presented. The damping characteristics are controlled by modulation of fluid–flow orifices, dry friction forces, electric or magnetic field applied to electro rheological or magneto rheological fluid dampers. The balance logic is assumed to be achieved with a variable dry friction damper controlled by the modulation of the normal force applied on the friction plates. For the models with semi–active dual– rate dampers, the value of the equivalent suspension damping coefficient is a function of the relative velocity of the sprung mass with respect to the wheel subsystem. Key Words: Transmissibility factor, Magneto–rheological fluid, Sequential damping INTRODUCTION Isolation of passenger from induced shock and vibration is the important task of the suspension of any ground vehicle. Although we sometimes hear on the news about people dying by car accidents, there are much more cases when people are not injured by car accidents thanks to the range of safety equipment designed to keep the people on the car safe in the event of a car crash. The range of safety equipment is supported in the background by the modern advanced science. First of all, seatbelts are installed in every kind of car that is being sold. Seatbelts take a very important role in cars because it works in many ways to protect the passengers from danger and car accidents. One of the reasons why seatbelts are important is because seatbelts reduce the speed of a body of a passenger as it gets an experience of an abrupt decreasing of speed. Since the velocity of the car and the passenger is independent, even when the car crashed into a wall and the velocity suddenly decreases to zero, the body of a passenger will want to still move forwards. Relatively new technology, the sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the majority of the population will be able to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Sequential Gearboxes Work In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished. Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Mexico, produced 3.4 million vehicles in 2015, raking seventh largest vehicle producer in the world and first in Latin America" (Administration, I. T. (2016). Automotive manufacturing is growing, and large automotive companies such as Nissan, Mazda, Volkswagen, and GM, who have plants already established in Mexico, are now planning to expand their facilities. Half of the cars sold in Mexico are made there, and the other half is imported (Iliff, 2016). The business cultural environment in Mexico consists of families driving small old 1990's pick–up trucks. In Mexico, owning a pick–up means a lot, because this type of cars are used for family, affordability, durability, efficiency, and convenience. Some include Nissan King Cab, Ford F–150, and Chevy Cheyenne and Silverado. As of 2015, Mexico has broken a new record of new vehicle sales of 1.38 million units, a 19% gain since 2014 and decreased used vehicles sales import of 180,000 from 1.6 million. "The future consumption is expected to increase by 500,000 units and could reach up 2 millions units" (Iliff, 2016). Mexico had freely imported used vehicles from the United States, and due to that, there was a large demand for used cars. The industry officials argue, "A crush of used cars hurts new cars. If a customer can not get a decent price at trade–in, deals fall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Collision Avoidance System Essay Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and sometimes trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and well developed, most systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team's general mission is to reduce the likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more engaged while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane changes. Along with the general mission, our team has defined further parameters of our product in an attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should be modular, third party, and affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our product to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cars with built–in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available. Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product, we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built–in car safety. To visualize how large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars that are not only 11 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Modern Vehicle and Suspension System Introduction A suspension system is required to operate efficiently in various operating conditions, such as high speed cornering, accelerating and braking. A Suspension system is used to absorb the vibrations caused by the road roughness. It is designed to improve the comfort in a vehicle, and also handling performance. The main design features of a suspension system are the optimization of the friction between the contact patch of the tyre and the road surface, and to deliver vehicle stability. The system has to permit the distribution of forces generated by the wheels in contact with the ground. A suspension system has to comply with the specifications of the design in every load condition. A suspension system has a great importance in vehicle behaviour. Stability, handling or road holding characteristics and also comfort, are influenced by the design of the suspension system. Generally, there are two main types of suspension systems: Independent (McPherson, Double Wishbone, Multilink, etc.) and Dependent suspension type (Hotchkiss, trailing arm–rigid axle) (the automotive chassis). The motion of the wheels in a dependent type suspension, as the name suggest, is dependent on the motion of the partner wheel. As an example, the effect of an impact is transmitted to the other wheel, having a negative effect on the ride and handling of the vehicle. The wheel motion in an independent suspension is not influencing the partner wheel. Any disturbances in the wheel are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Design, Development and Analysis of Composite Mono Leaf Spring: A Review Introduction:(12Bold) Materials: Method: Introduction: In order to conserve natural resources and economize energy, weight reduction has been the main focus of automobile manufacturers. Weight reduction can be achieved primarily by the introduction of better material, design optimization and better manufacturing processes. The achievement of weight reduction with adequate improvement of mechanical properties has made composite a very good replacement material for conventional steel. A composite is composed of a high performance fibers such as carbon, Kevlar, graphite or glass in a matrix material that when combined provides better properties compared with the individual materials by themselves. The composite materials are used in structural application areas, such as in aircraft, space, automotive, for sporting goods, and marine engineering. The various type of glass fibers available are Carbon fiber, C–glass, S–glass and E–glass. However, carbon epoxy material is better than other fibers but because of its high cost, it has limited applications. Favorable relation between cost and properties of a material can be obtained with E–glass fiber/epoxy. The major step of composite in automotive business is extension of use in to truly structural application such as primary body structure and to chassis and suspension system. These are the area which has to sustain all major road load ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
