Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Paper
On April 14, 2016 I attended the Dvorak Cello Concerto at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee. The instruments that were being played were
made up of the whole symphony orchestra. In addition, the instrument that was featured was the cello. The reasoning for this is because there was a
special guest musician, Susie Yang who was performing with theorchestra and she played the cello. The structure of the performance consisted of three
different main pieces of music with different sections within them. In addition, this was the first time I had been to the Tennessee Theatre. The theatre
was very intriguing because of the elegance that came with it. The dГ©cor was very nice and looked expensive. It is exactly what I imagined when I
thought of the setting for a symphony. It was well lit with beautiful crown molding in the celling. In addition, there were lovely curtains blocking an
area that looked to be a balcony beside the stage. In addition, there was back drop lights on the walls highlighting pieces that looked to be Grecian
Urns. I believe this event is relevant to college students because it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, beyond the theater being less than 3 miles away, UT offers students 7 dollars tickets to shows compared to what non–students pay which
is 15 dollars. In addition, the symphony orchestra is beneficial because it offers students an experience that many 17–24 year olds have not experienced
and that is watching an orchestra perform. Another way it helps the UT community is by offering students a way to step away from studying for two
hours and see the great elegance that comes with playing in an orchestra. The Knoxville symphony provides an experience for people to go watch
amazingly skilled musicians show off their skills. Also, it provides the UT community a chance to listen to the great music of passed musicians like

Reflection Of The Illinois Symphony Orchestra
The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Concert on October 14th featured three pieces; The Birds, Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano, and Orchestra in C
Major, and Symphony No.5. All the pieces were lovely and were entertaining to listen to. This concert also featured the Hersh Trio, comprised of
Alexander Hersh on the cello, Stefan Hersh on the violin, and Paul Hersh on the piano, which the orchestra accompanied for one piece.
The first piece played by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra was The Birds composed by Ottorino Respighi. Ottorino Respighi is best known for
his orchestral tone poems, such as Fountains of Rome. He based his work, The Birds, off of 16th, 17th, and 18th century style music because he
had an interest in music from these eras as a musicologist. There are five movements; Preludio, La Colomba, La Gallina, L'Usignolo, and Il Cuccu.
They are meant to resemble types of birds. For example, La Colomba means dove, La Gallina means hen. The first movement, Preludio, was light and
airy. This was a good piece to start with because of its playful melody. There was a large ritardando into a new melody that clearly resembled sounds
of a bird. The second theme sounded fluttery because of the trills. The movement then returned to the first theme and ended on a large chord. The
second movement, La Colomba, didn't start out nearly as upbeat and jittery as the previous movement. Given the context of the name, this makes more
sense considering the connotation of a dove is

Today, classical music by many can be seen as a dying genre of music. Not often do people attend concerts to be moved emotionally, for entertainment,
or as a means of socializing. Though groups such as 2Cellos, Piano Guys, and the YouTube Symphony Orchestra have recently driven people back to
concert halls and have them watching classical performances online. The YouTube SymphonyOrchestra has made a significant movement to this genre
of music by live streaming their performances (one in 2009 and the other in 2011).
YouTube Symphony Orchestra's performance in 2011 had people hustling to the SydneyOpera House, and was live streamed around the world for
viewers at home. The orchestra performed various pieces of music from modern to classical. Though their final piece, The Firebird by Igor
Stravinsky, brought the performance together and captivated the audience. The Firebird is a ballet, which was inspired from Russian folklore of a
magical bird that is both a blessing and curse to its master . Stravinsky composed the music for Sergei Diaghilev's ... Show more content on

The first song played from the Orchestra was Infernal Dance. The whole orchestra plays a loud chord to show the intensity of the piece. The rhythm of
this movement is syncopation due to the rhythm not being on the beat. This makes the strong beat weak, thus giving a chilling ambience. Infernal
Dance then transitions to the soothing movement Berceuse. Berceuse is a lullaby played by the bassoon. The Orchestra concludes the concert with
Finale. Finale is the finishing piece of The Firebird and uses one french horn for the melody in a dynamic of piano. The whole orchestra soon joins in
creating a hymn like choral. Instead of ending with a grand note, the brass takes the melody at a faster pace developing a celebratory ending. With its
uneven rhythmic and extravagant arrangement this Suite fashions a spellbinding

National Symphony Orchestra Concert Report
The National Symphony Orchestra performed on Saturday evening, March 5, 2016 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The show
was divided into three parts with different performance; the conductor for this group is Christoph Eschenbach, the National Symphony Orchestra Debut
name is Ray Chen, Violin, & Adriana Horne, Harp, and play Bruch / 2 Prokofiev symphonies. The venue where the performance took place was at the
Concert Hall with high–tech acoustical canopy, new seating sections and handicap–accessible. The atmosphere was beautiful and so vintage because of
the Hadeland crystal chandeliers that was given by the government of Norway. The seating capacity was 2442 with audience mostly elderly caucasian

Reflection Of A Symphony Orchestra
On November 29, 2017, during a Wednesday night, I attended a Symphony Orchestra. The performance was played by the University of Houston
Symphony Orchestra in Moores Opera House at the Moores School of Music. The performance was conducted by two different conductors. The first
conductor was Carlos Guillermo Jung, he conducted the first piece which was a piece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovskycalled Fantasy which is a Romeo and
Juliet Overture. The next conductor was Franz Anton Krager, he conducted the CelloConcerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by Camille Saint–Saens which
also included Vagram Saradjian, who was a guest cellist performer. The next piece conducted by Fran Anton Krager was theSymphony No.5 in C
minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The performance overall was over two hours, but was very entertaining and captured my attention the whole
time. The first piece that was conducted by Jung called Romeo and Juliet Overture–Fantasy, which is an orchestral work composed by Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was one of the top composers during the Romantic era who was inspired by the work of Shakespeare. The overture
outlines the plot of Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The genre of the piece is overture, the form is sonata, and the meter is duple or to some
people, it may seem like the meter is quadruple. Throughout the performance, some themes were mostly led by the woodwind section, more
specifically the clarinets and bassoons, and another theme was led by

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Essay
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin Philharmonie, gifted the audience with a masterful
rendition of the movements within the symphony. The Symphony divides into three separate parts, in which the movements complement each other's
characteristics. The symphony orchestra features a myriad of orchestral instruments featuring the Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion families.
Furthermore, the various movements throughout the performance utilize various musical concepts that bring the music to life. Albeit, the complexity of
Mahler's symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed superbly throughout the performance. The five movements of Mahler's symphony
complement each other in three different parts throughout the performance. For instance, the first movement Trauermarsch presents a somber mood
that complements the intensity of the second movement Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz. Whilst, Movement III Scherzo immediately...

exemplifies monophony within the movement composed in rondo form. Next, the fast tempo of Movement II Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter
Vehemenz represents allegretto, whilst featuring a myriad of discords until reaching the final resolution. Furthermore, Movement III Scherzo,
represents an abrupt shift in the symphony's style switching from the dark minor scale of movements I and II to the more jubilant major scale.
Moreover, Movement IV Adagietto slows the symphony's tempo to adagio, and only employs the use of the Stringed instruments. Last but not least,
Movement IV Rondo–Finale speeds up the symphony once more up to Allegro, ending in a dramatic climax with a brief cadence. Mahler's Symphony

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Performance Review
I attended a performance by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra on Thursday November 19, 2015 at the Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown

Meyerson Center is a beautiful venue with brilliant architecture. The inside of the actual concert hall is set with a mood that makes the listening
experience magical. The works performed prior to the intermission and the main piece included Prelude to Act 1 from Palestrina by Hans Pfitzner and
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Philip Glass. Prelude to Act 1 from Palestrina was slow, low and lovely. The woodwind section sounded beautiful,

This included 7 different movements in representation of all planets except Earth. First was Mars, the Bringer of War. Themusic was powerful and
engulfed all your senses. It seemed to say, "I am triumphant!" I loved it! Part 2 was Venus, the Bringer of Peace, which was obviously calmer and
more soothing. It was too slow for my personal taste though. Part 3 was Mercury, the Winged Messenger. This section sounded whimsical to me and
I really enjoyed the more upbeat tune it had. It made me think of cartoon animals scurrying through the forest. Part 4 was Jupiter, the Bringer of
Jollity. I didn't really feel any cheerfulness from this section like I had anticipated. I don't think it was sad, I just didn't hear the jolliness in it. Part 5
was Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age. It started out very slow. I must say I was distracted for the first portion of this planet because it didn't catch my
attention until about half–way through. Then the music became loud and full. It was almost dramatic before it died back down to a peaceful tune. It
was as though the music was accepting "old age". Part 6 was Uranus, the Magician. I loved the use of all the different percussion in this piece. The
tinkling of the xylophone gave it a magical feel and the drums, cymbals, and gong made the music exciting. Finally part 7 was Neptune, the Mystic.
This was another slow piece. I however

Symphony Orchestra Reflection
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans Auditorium. The performance was made up of two
pieces: "Overture to Nabucco" composed by Giuseppe Verdi and "Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64" composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with its
4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was "Fifth and Fate", depicting the ideas of life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very
well exemplified this theme and overall put on a delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something
spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was the lack of balance. At some points, the string section
overpowered the horns almost entirely to where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the size of the
brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply
stating, the strings needed to be quieter and the horns could've made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained ear was the timing
of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon
or viola that would come sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and harmony the orchestra
attempted

The Boston Symphony Orchestra Analysis
The Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the country's five major symphony orchestras, and constantly has new pieces for music lovers. The
February 2014 concert opened with Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy,it's a very youthful piece that depicts the young in a gentle
and carefree nature. Impressionism was a leading art movement during his time.In France, "Impressionist" was a term used to say a persons work did
not follow the norms or rules of society.
Claude was a leading composer of impressionist music and respected among his peers. One of the earliest art movements of the 20th century was
Impressionism. The whole–tone scale can often be seen in his pieces and form the basis of his music .For example, The opening flute solo has a

Symphony Orchestra Analysis
A symphony is an extended classical composition for an orchestra, found in Western Art Music. It often consists of four separate and unique, sections
known as movements which are, in some way however, related to one another. The symphony as a genre began developing during the late 17th century
and continued to do so up until the late 18th century. This important genre of Western Art Music is closely related to the development of theorchestra. It
is therefore critical, in understanding the symphony, to investigate the development of the orchestra.
In the stretch of a hundred years, the orchestra underwent considerable change in developing into the standard symphony orchestra of the modern age.
When it is first found in the late 1600s during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was truly a breeding ground for musical excellence and innovation. This orchestra was by far the largest of its kind in the area, and boasted many of
the greatest virtuosi of the time. Upon Mozart's first visit to Mannheim in 1763, the orchestra made a huge impression on him. Besides a large
orchestra, symphonies included various specific musical features and techniques, that had become trademarks of the style developed in Manheim. One
Manheim composer in particular had a large impact on the orchestra and the symphony. His name is Jan Vaclav Antonin Stamic (1717– 1757)
(Germanized to Johann Wenzel Anton Stamitz). He started writing orchestral works to be independent works in their own right. Orchestras no longer
needed to accompany vocal genres to attain any meaning. This paved the way for what was to become known as abstract music. Stamitz wrote 58
symphonies in his lifetime, and numerous conciertos. He expanded the orchestra, with woodwinds starting to play an essential role in the orchestral
timbre. The orchestra was no longer made up simply of a haphazard group of instruments, but was starting to take a fixed formal shape. Along with his
contributions to the expansion of the orchestra he also adopted the formal structure of four movements for the symphony and started using a distinct
development section in the first movements, which became known as sonata form. The opening movement is fast, followed by a slow second
movement, the third movement would be a minuet and trio, and the fourth would end the symphony on a final Presto or Prestissimo

Music, The Orchestra, And The Romantic Symphony
Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western civilization. The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of
music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don't have any type of musical background and
I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to making an orchestra and composing a music
program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that
they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at "The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks
and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage." The orchestra has a lot of history that goes
back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string
instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could
see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the
orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony
orchestra. A

I recently got to hear a few works at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. These compositions were written by Richard Wagner, Igor Stravinsky, and
Antonin Dvorak. I had a wonderful time and a great experience. The pieces were played very well by the orchestra and Daniel Muller–Schott. Also,
the conductor, Jun Markl, seemed very passionate and involved, and I liked the fact that he acknowledged when one of the performers did a good
job. The concert was well received by the audience as a whole and myself, and put me in a very happy mood. The first work that was performed was

The vast spectrum of emotion that must be conveyed by a single person must be a challenging feat. You must be able to play fast and without
break for long periods of time. I also believe that it would be merely impossible to play this piece without strong emotion and passion from the
cellist, as they are the main focal point of the concert. The orchestra and the cello compliment each other seamlessly and in a way the I have never
heard before. It's a perfect match and the piece wouldn't be the same without both of them in unmitigated harmony. For example, the cello may be
playing softly and slow, then out of nowhere, the orchestra surprises the audience with loud, but simple tones. I believe that this is where the
passion from the piece is divulged. The accompaniment is almost always grand and if I may, reminds me very much of a Beethoven like sound.
The Cello Concerto's arguably second strongest theme is sadness. To me it's not a conventional sadness. It's not one of petty sorrow, but one of great
loss and remembrance. As if you are remembering special times with a loved one that you dearly miss, where while you may be sad that they have
past on, but you also remember the good times you had, and how they used to always make you laugh. So maybe it invokes sadness, but not a
necessarily bad kind, it just has a mournful tone at

Evolution Of Symphony Orchestra Essay
Trace the general historical evolution of the symphony orchestra from Haydn's time at the Esterhazy court, to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
The symphony orchestra underwent considerable evolutions from the time of Haydn at the Esterhazy court to the time of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
The symphony orchestra during the classical era consisted of fewer instruments and shorter pieces. Haydn, a composer of the romantic era, wrote his
compositions for small orchestras and other musical ensembles. Composing for wealthy patrons was how musicians and composers made an income
for themselves Due to these small and private concerts, the orchestra's did not need to be very large. The term orchestra usually refers to a large
instrumental group, however, during the time of Haydn at the Esterhazy court, the smaller sized orchestra, created the starting point for ... Show more

Due to the French Revolution and other political events of the time, the middle class began to grow, creating a large pool of patrons who could afford
to attend a concerts, thus shifting the role of the patron from a rich and important figure, to the general public. This changed the way music was
performed and additionally changed the way it was produced. Composers no longer had to compose for their patrons parties or gatherings, they were
granted a new freedom by composing under no other guidelines than their own. Due to current events of that time, music became an outlet to both
express and convey the emotion of the brought on by theses events. The style became highly emotional, so dynamics and sound became essential to the
symphony. Thus the symphony began to grow, improvements to instruments such as brass, with the invention of valves, and improvements to the keys
structure of the winds. Along with these changes, an increase of percussive instruments occurred, lending to large dynamic leaps and tempo

I choosed to attend this event for a variety of different reasons. First of all, it was a fine arts event, and secondly, I love listening to classical music
that orchestras typically perform. I was in orchestra for a number of years during my elementary and middle school education. Unfortunately, I stopped
playing in High School in which I regret drastically. I enjoy hearing all the instruments play different parts of the music piece and at the end they all
create a beautiful master piece.
I really liked how all the musicians in the orchestra each had their own personal style in playing their instrument.

Particularly exciting was the hair–raising fourth movement of the symphony, in which the conductor came to life, jumping while conducting and giving
sweeping, emotional cues to the orchestra. When the first theme from the sonata–form movement began in the strings, it seemed as if it would be
another peaceful movement. However, when the tutti played the theme with a sforzando volume, the entire audience was reengaged. The orchestra
executed with elite technical precision, with all strings' bows in sync. As with the rest of the concert, the group did a nice job contrasting loud, tutti
sections with minor, modulated solos, especially in the flute and clarinet. Even in a hall as cavernous as Woolsey, the orchestra did a superb job with
crisp pizzicato and staccato cutoffs. The only flaw in the rendition of Brahms' symphony was extreme dynamics: the trombones played with such vigor
that their sound began to spread, perpetuating the intonation problems the orchestra had throughout the concert. Overall, the Yale Symphony Orchestra
delivered an exquisite performance, riddled only by perpetual intonation problems. The audience was very engaged, with a lengthy standing ovation at

Not knowing what to expect when I took my seat at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, I was anxious. I loved hearing any classical music come over the
radio for a few seconds as one of my parents turned the knob on the radio while driving. No matter how hard I wished for the knob to stop turning, it
never did. The only real experience I had with classical music was during Music class at school and the one teacher who played records in her room
during quiet times. But this day was something special. My sister and I were asked to join a small group of teens to attend a concert of the Atlanta
Symphony YouthOrchestra. The cousin of an attendee would play in the orchestra that year and I was thrilled to be attending.
We got to our seats early so we could be sure we were in a good location. The instrumentalists warming up with different sounds and scales all playing
at the same time was like listening to the sounds of nature. Everyone had their own different sound. Everyone was playing something different. While I
was amazed at what I heard, it wasn't until the conductor raised his baton and the first sounds from a well–practiced group took my breath away. Every
section came together to make the most beautiful sound floating throughout the hall; a sound of excellence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each one begins and ends with same four words, Praise ye the Lord. In chapter 148, we see how nature is being called out to praise the Lord. Can you
imagine if all of nature, everything praised the Lord at one time? I'm sure if we could hear all the sounds of nature singing its praise to the Lord it
would be a sound we would never forget. I have a feeling it would bring both amazement and fear. Fear of just how great our Lord is.

I.Identification/Historical Context
1a. The first piece of the concert was Divertimento No. 2 in B–flat Major, K.137, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(1756–1791). This Divertimento has 3
movements:
I. Andante
II. Allegro di molto
III. Allegro assai
The composer Mozart was born in Salzburg in the year 1756. Mozart grew up with the privilege of having a musically influenced family. Mozart's
father was a musician who worked as an assistant concertmaster for the Salzburg court. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was one of the youngest composers
of all time; supposedly composing at the age of five. The symphony was composed in the year 1772 in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart was 16 when he
wrote this symphony as a part of an opera. The opera was for the purpose of celebrating the succession of a new archbishop of Salzburg, opera called II
Sogno di Scipione. This opera contained three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mostly because when I think classical I think of faster paced pieces. That does not mean I do not acknowledge the slower tempo pieces, it just
means that I tend to listen to the quicker tempo pieces. The first part of this symphony does have its enjoyable parts though. I did enjoy the
introduction to this symphony as it had a dark kind of feel, but then picked up by the violins. I enjoyed the second part of the symphony particularly
because of the violins striking then slowing down to a moderate tempo. This cycle repeated, but it made the piece a lot more enjoyable, knowing what
was going to happen next. I was able to distinguish and appreciate the tones a lot more with every reoccurring

The Symphony Orchestra At The Usf Concert Hall
On the afternoon of November 23rd, there was a performance by the USF Symphony Orchestra at the USF Concert Hall. Their performance, which
was masterful from beginning to end, featured guest artists Jay Hunsberger on the tuba and Dolly Roberts on the harp. The performance began with
Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, a piece that started with a bang. The pang of a gong, and the beat of the drums, immediately
captured and captivated the audience from the start. The slow build that led up to the trumpets and other brass instruments folding in, possessed an
almost militaristic feel. Upon looking into the composer, it was no wonder why the triumphant sounds produced by the brass instruments came off
as militaristic. Copland composed the piece during World War II. According to Elizabeth Bergman Crist, Copland: " . . . committed himself to
creating music at once unabashedly modern he committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern and identifiably American. The
'desire to be American was symptomatic of the period,' he wrote in a later reminiscence. He recalled being 'anxious to write a work that would
immediately be recognized as American in character' and so turned to jazz as 'an easy way to be American in musical terms.' " ("Music for the
Common Man: Aaron Copland During the Depression and War," p. 3). It is obvious that Copland accomplished his goal of creating "American"
music. Fanfare for the Common Man is an iconic piece, often played in movies

"A bad they in Paris in still better than a good day anywhere else." Popular quote. It was the first time that I would assist to a Symphony Orchestra
concert and I was excited for this new experience. Pictures at a French Exhibition sounded like an artistic exposition of French pictures, instead was a
repertoire of various pieces interpreted by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The event took place at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk city in a perfect Sunday
afternoon. When my husband and I arrived were guided to our seats, just in time to breath and enjoy the magic of music.
Joann Faletta was the conductor and I was amazed to see a woman as a conductor. Robert Shoup was the chorus master and Alon Goldstein in the
piano. Alon Goldstein opened the concert with some short histories about French musical pieces and his vision about what to expect of the concert.
Prelude a Papres–midi d' un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun) composed by Claude Debussy was the opened piece, suddenly all the room
was quiet.
The conductor started to move the baton in soft movements and all the instruments were synchronized to play the most beautiful melody that

Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Marian Anderson String Quartet, and special guest narrator Greg Wise preformed three pieces. These pieces include,
"Lyric for Strings," "Follow the Drinking Gourd," and, "Symphony Number 1." The Brazos Valley SymphonyOrchestra consists of Violin, Viola,
Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Harp, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, and Keyboard. The Marian
Anderson String Quartet uses two violinists, viola, and cello. The first piece is around six minutes long and is called, "Lyric for Strings," by George
Walker, "the first African American composer to receive the Pulitzer Prize forMusic." The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra played the piece.
Walker was born on June 27, 1922 and became the first African American to graduate from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. The piece is
dedicated to his grandmother, who passed away while he was working on it. Inspiration for comes from a compilation of Samuel Barber's "Adagio for
Strings," and "Beethoven's op. 135." Walkers piece was written in 1946 as a Renaissance styled piece of music. The piece starts with an introduction by

On October 10, I attended the performances of the University Symphony Orchestra, with guest soloists Trio 180, comprised of Professors Miller on
violin, Flyer on cello, and Leong on piano, along with having the pleasure of an intermissionary lecture about the possible survival of Beethoven and
Schubert with the help of modern medicine led by Professor Blankenship from the School of Pharmacy. Before the first piece, Principal Violin Vogel
led the tuning of the orchestra in the traditional B flat. Trio 180 then emerged onstage and were recognized as the soloists as Professor Leong led the
tuning of the trio. The first piece of the evening was Beethoven's Triple Concerto Op. 56 with a mezzo piano chord progression of the basses and
cellos, with violin and viola soon mirroring, leading to a unanimous motif which was replicated in distinct moments as the bass and treble strings
branched off into their own movements. Throughout the piece, the strings in the orchestra were featured more than the wind instruments, as they were
typically the support for the soloists. Trio 180 worked incredibly well off of each other, watching one another as they played together in order to
experience the flow of the music in a more unified way. When the wind instruments were featured, the balance, blend, and pitch were nearly seamless;

Grinnell Symphony Orchestra Analysis
The Grinnell Symphony Orchestra's concert with cowboy singer Dave Stamey was billed as an intriguing and thought–provoking junction between the
genres of classical and Western. The mix of traditional cowboy music and orchestral arrangement had the potential to highlight the strengths of the
performers and genres; it was certainly interesting to hear songs typically performed solo being played with a full orchestra, but a number of red flags
popped out immediately and ended up spoiling the experience. Poor planning and a failure to be conscious of cultural politics ultimately left a bad taste
in my mouth. Factors unrelated to this intersection of genres – rehearsal timing, audience demographics, and Dave Stamey's racist habits and
mannerisms – ended up highlighting the negative instead. A number of years ago, I had the opportunity to play a concert with Livingston Taylor (also
known as "Budget James Taylor"), providing an opportunity for a folk–rock singer–songwriter to perform standards with a full jazz band – something
not entirely different from the Stamey–orchestra relationship. Much like the Grinnell Symphony Orchestra, we only had one extended rehearsal with
our guest after several months of rehearsing our charts; inevitably, there were some kinks to iron out in tempo, mood, and overall consistency. Unlike

This non ticketed event was held at Morgan Hall in the Bailey Performing Arts Center on Kennesaw State University's Kennesaw campus. The program
consisted of three unique musical pieces performed by the renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Before the concert began, I was able to observe the audience members outside of the entrance doors. Unlike the other Kennesaw State concerts that I
attended, there was an extremely large and diverse crowd dressed formally. The doors opened fifteen minutes before the concert began and an usher
escorted me to the second row in front of the stage. As the performance began, felt a formal and prestigious atmosphere within the crowd. I began to

The orchestra performed passionately and precisely with perfect synchronization. The dramatic crescendos and decrescendos really brought out the
emotions of each piece. The first piece performed was called "Don Juan" (1888–1889) and started off fast paced and suspenseful. Composed by
Richard Strauss (1864–1949), the piece had a lot of dissonance within it. There were times when the piece would slow down gradually then suddenly
speed up, returning back to its original pacing. Each instrumental section could be heard precisely and no one section overwhelmed another. The
conductor stood out the most during the performance and excellently controlled the pacing and tone of the piece. His exotic movements seemed

Gustav Mahler's Symphony No.1 in D major. There was a full stage of musicians and a complete choir to back it up.

Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his orchestra perfect, as they did successfully.
After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major began. The first movement started off with
an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very
soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro
begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, "Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld," (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy
tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of
despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after. (Kahn)
The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking
wine and dancing the night away. This movement has the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio
form though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three notes of the Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall
theme from the first movement. If

This article discusses the world's need for classical music and why it will always be relevant. The author explores what makes certain things "art" and
why certain other things are simply entertainment. He claims that classical music can never die because it is fundamentally different from many other
types of popular music. It defines what makes art different from entertainment and answers the age old question of who gets to judge between them. In
an age that dooms classical music to inevitable failure, this article offers a refreshing different perspective in a much more hopeful light.

1 in C Minor, Op. 68 was the second and also the last piece for the concert. Johannes Brahms took about 21 years to compose this symphony.
Brahms was known as one of the greatest composers of the nineteenth century. The symphony has four movements. The first movement began with a
slow introduction, supporting by the full orchestra; the drum was the loudest one. The middle part of this movement's sound was like the sound of
an action movie with people holding guns. The musicians slowly ended the first movement and started the second one. Solo violins and horns
played together nicely; I felt the peace in it. The picture that I had in mind at that moment was someone walking in the forest and waiting for his or
her lover. The ending sounded like he or she met the lover, and it was a happy ending. The third movement was played fast but beautifully. Finally,
the last movement was played from slow to fast and loud. The drum then started to join the orchestra, and there was a horn solo part. The movement
ended really fast and loud like someone trying to run to the final point. The first and last movements are not as tension as in the second and third ones.

I decided to attend the Symphony on the Prairie on July24, 2015. I haven't been to a Symphony Orchestra since I was very young and I was unable to

Unfortunately there wasn't any vocal throughout the concert but there were many instruments. These instruments include the entire string family

joined. The dynamic of the first half was moderately loud. The rhythm picks up and the beat is faster and louder with the repetition of the plucking
by the same instruments. As the piece concludes, the tempo speeds up quickly and the dynamic of forte was present, ending in a sudden stop. My
initial reaction to this piece was that it gave off a creepy and mysterious vibe. The plucking of the stringed instruments felt as though we were tiptoeing
through a horror story. When the tempo got faster, I felt the suspense and my heart racing. I enjoyed the abrupt stop at the end of the piece because it
was unexpected considering how fast the music was going and was a pleasant

Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Paper

  • 1. Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Paper On April 14, 2016 I attended the Dvorak Cello Concerto at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee. The instruments that were being played were made up of the whole symphony orchestra. In addition, the instrument that was featured was the cello. The reasoning for this is because there was a special guest musician, Susie Yang who was performing with theorchestra and she played the cello. The structure of the performance consisted of three different main pieces of music with different sections within them. In addition, this was the first time I had been to the Tennessee Theatre. The theatre was very intriguing because of the elegance that came with it. The dГ©cor was very nice and looked expensive. It is exactly what I imagined when I thought of the setting for a symphony. It was well lit with beautiful crown molding in the celling. In addition, there were lovely curtains blocking an area that looked to be a balcony beside the stage. In addition, there was back drop lights on the walls highlighting pieces that looked to be Grecian Urns. I believe this event is relevant to college students because it is ... For example, beyond the theater being less than 3 miles away, UT offers students 7 dollars tickets to shows compared to what non–students pay which is 15 dollars. In addition, the symphony orchestra is beneficial because it offers students an experience that many 17–24 year olds have not experienced and that is watching an orchestra perform. Another way it helps the UT community is by offering students a way to step away from studying for two hours and see the great elegance that comes with playing in an orchestra. The Knoxville symphony provides an experience for people to go watch amazingly skilled musicians show off their skills. Also, it provides the UT community a chance to listen to the great music of passed musicians like Mozart, Beethoven, and many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Reflection Of The Illinois Symphony Orchestra The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Concert on October 14th featured three pieces; The Birds, Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano, and Orchestra in C Major, and Symphony No.5. All the pieces were lovely and were entertaining to listen to. This concert also featured the Hersh Trio, comprised of Alexander Hersh on the cello, Stefan Hersh on the violin, and Paul Hersh on the piano, which the orchestra accompanied for one piece. The first piece played by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra was The Birds composed by Ottorino Respighi. Ottorino Respighi is best known for his orchestral tone poems, such as Fountains of Rome. He based his work, The Birds, off of 16th, 17th, and 18th century style music because he had an interest in music from these eras as a musicologist. There are five movements; Preludio, La Colomba, La Gallina, L'Usignolo, and Il Cuccu. They are meant to resemble types of birds. For example, La Colomba means dove, La Gallina means hen. The first movement, Preludio, was light and airy. This was a good piece to start with because of its playful melody. There was a large ritardando into a new melody that clearly resembled sounds of a bird. The second theme sounded fluttery because of the trills. The movement then returned to the first theme and ended on a large chord. The second movement, La Colomba, didn't start out nearly as upbeat and jittery as the previous movement. Given the context of the name, this makes more sense considering the connotation of a dove is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Youtube Symphony Orchestra Today, classical music by many can be seen as a dying genre of music. Not often do people attend concerts to be moved emotionally, for entertainment, or as a means of socializing. Though groups such as 2Cellos, Piano Guys, and the YouTube Symphony Orchestra have recently driven people back to concert halls and have them watching classical performances online. The YouTube SymphonyOrchestra has made a significant movement to this genre of music by live streaming their performances (one in 2009 and the other in 2011). YouTube Symphony Orchestra's performance in 2011 had people hustling to the SydneyOpera House, and was live streamed around the world for viewers at home. The orchestra performed various pieces of music from modern to classical. Though their final piece, The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, brought the performance together and captivated the audience. The Firebird is a ballet, which was inspired from Russian folklore of a magical bird that is both a blessing and curse to its master . Stravinsky composed the music for Sergei Diaghilev's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first song played from the Orchestra was Infernal Dance. The whole orchestra plays a loud chord to show the intensity of the piece. The rhythm of this movement is syncopation due to the rhythm not being on the beat. This makes the strong beat weak, thus giving a chilling ambience. Infernal Dance then transitions to the soothing movement Berceuse. Berceuse is a lullaby played by the bassoon. The Orchestra concludes the concert with Finale. Finale is the finishing piece of The Firebird and uses one french horn for the melody in a dynamic of piano. The whole orchestra soon joins in creating a hymn like choral. Instead of ending with a grand note, the brass takes the melody at a faster pace developing a celebratory ending. With its uneven rhythmic and extravagant arrangement this Suite fashions a spellbinding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. National Symphony Orchestra Concert Report The National Symphony Orchestra performed on Saturday evening, March 5, 2016 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The show was divided into three parts with different performance; the conductor for this group is Christoph Eschenbach, the National Symphony Orchestra Debut name is Ray Chen, Violin, & Adriana Horne, Harp, and play Bruch / 2 Prokofiev symphonies. The venue where the performance took place was at the Concert Hall with high–tech acoustical canopy, new seating sections and handicap–accessible. The atmosphere was beautiful and so vintage because of the Hadeland crystal chandeliers that was given by the government of Norway. The seating capacity was 2442 with audience mostly elderly caucasian people, families with their kids, and random young adults with a significant others. Ray Chen is among the most compelling young violinist today who has release three critically acclaimed albums on Sony: a recital program Virtuoso of works by Bach and his third recording, an all– Mozart album with Christoph Eschenbach and the Schleswig–Holstein Festival Orchestra, was released in January 2014. • 6. Reflection Of A Symphony Orchestra On November 29, 2017, during a Wednesday night, I attended a Symphony Orchestra. The performance was played by the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra in Moores Opera House at the Moores School of Music. The performance was conducted by two different conductors. The first conductor was Carlos Guillermo Jung, he conducted the first piece which was a piece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovskycalled Fantasy which is a Romeo and Juliet Overture. The next conductor was Franz Anton Krager, he conducted the CelloConcerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by Camille Saint–Saens which also included Vagram Saradjian, who was a guest cellist performer. The next piece conducted by Fran Anton Krager was theSymphony No.5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The performance overall was over two hours, but was very entertaining and captured my attention the whole time. The first piece that was conducted by Jung called Romeo and Juliet Overture–Fantasy, which is an orchestral work composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was one of the top composers during the Romantic era who was inspired by the work of Shakespeare. The overture outlines the plot of Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The genre of the piece is overture, the form is sonata, and the meter is duple or to some people, it may seem like the meter is quadruple. • 7. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Essay The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin Philharmonie, gifted the audience with a masterful rendition of the movements within the symphony. The Symphony divides into three separate parts, in which the movements complement each other's characteristics. The symphony orchestra features a myriad of orchestral instruments featuring the Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion families. Furthermore, the various movements throughout the performance utilize various musical concepts that bring the music to life. Albeit, the complexity of Mahler's symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed superbly throughout the performance. The five movements of Mahler's symphony complement each other in three different parts throughout the performance. For instance, the first movement Trauermarsch presents a somber mood that complements the intensity of the second movement StГјrmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz. Whilst, Movement III Scherzo immediately... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5 utilize various different musical concepts throughout the performance. For instance, the opening trumpet solo in movement I Trauermarsch, exemplifies monophony within the movement composed in rondo form. Next, the fast tempo of Movement II StГјrmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz represents allegretto, whilst featuring a myriad of discords until reaching the final resolution. Furthermore, Movement III Scherzo, represents an abrupt shift in the symphony's style switching from the dark minor scale of movements I and II to the more jubilant major scale. Moreover, Movement IV Adagietto slows the symphony's tempo to adagio, and only employs the use of the Stringed instruments. Last but not least, Movement IV Rondo–Finale speeds up the symphony once more up to Allegro, ending in a dramatic climax with a brief cadence. I wen to the concert featured three instrumentalists of the Arizona State University Orchestra.on November 4th at Ketzin Concert hall. Led by conductor Jeffery Meyer," The concert begins with Benjamin Britten's evocative " Four Sea Interludes," Nuyts's "Tumbleweed Concerto"and ends with Prokofiev's powerful "Symphony No. 5". From the whole concert, my favorite piece is the first one titled " Four Sea Interludes ". Consequently at the onset of the performance violins with a characteristic–soothing tune are rent the air. Ralph in the title was getting extraordinarily proficient at making a virtue of the importance of a smooth transition to another and his breaks not only taking the listener from one place to another but also through the characters minds, which throughout the opera are full of doubt and turmoil. In this performance, there is not a bar in the systematic breaks no matter how beautiful that is free of foreboding. They are all integrated into the Opera's action, subsequently leading into the next scene without pauses. After a pleasant encounter at a classical music concert, next in line of the places I would wish to visit is Colorado State University annual Fall Dance Concert. The event held at the institutions Dance Theatre at the University Centre for the Arts features members of the Colorado ballet. • 9. Dallas Symphony Orchestra Performance Review I attended a performance by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra on Thursday November 19, 2015 at the Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown Dallas. There was also a brief performance by The Women of the Dallas Symphony Chorus as part of the last piece of music performed. The Meyerson Center is a beautiful venue with brilliant architecture. The inside of the actual concert hall is set with a mood that makes the listening experience magical. The works performed prior to the intermission and the main piece included Prelude to Act 1 from Palestrina by Hans Pfitzner and Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Philip Glass. This included 7 different movements in representation of all planets except Earth. First was Mars, the Bringer of War. Themusic was powerful and engulfed all your senses. It seemed to say, "I am triumphant!" I loved it! Part 2 was Venus, the Bringer of Peace, which was obviously calmer and more soothing. It was too slow for my personal taste though. Part 3 was Mercury, the Winged Messenger. This section sounded whimsical to me and I really enjoyed the more upbeat tune it had. It made me think of cartoon animals scurrying through the forest. Part 4 was Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity. I didn't really feel any cheerfulness from this section like I had anticipated. I don't think it was sad, I just didn't hear the jolliness in it. Part 5 was Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age. It started out very slow. I must say I was distracted for the first portion of this planet because it didn't catch my attention until about half–way through. Then the music became loud and full. It was almost dramatic before it died back down to a peaceful tune. It was as though the music was accepting "old age". Part 6 was Uranus, the Magician. I loved the use of all the different percussion in this piece. The tinkling of the xylophone gave it a magical feel and the drums, cymbals, and gong made the music exciting. Finally part 7 was Neptune, the Mystic. This was another slow piece. I however ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Symphony Orchestra Reflection Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans Auditorium. The performance was made up of two pieces: "Overture to Nabucco" composed by Giuseppe Verdi and "Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64" composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with its 4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was "Fifth and Fate", depicting the ideas of life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very well exemplified this theme and overall put on a delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was the lack of balance. At some points, the string section overpowered the horns almost entirely to where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the size of the brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply stating, the strings needed to be quieter and the horns could've made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained ear was the timing of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon or viola that would come sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and harmony the orchestra attempted ... • 12. Symphony Orchestra Analysis A symphony is an extended classical composition for an orchestra, found in Western Art Music. It often consists of four separate and unique, sections known as movements which are, in some way however, related to one another. The symphony as a genre began developing during the late 17th century and continued to do so up until the late 18th century. This important genre of Western Art Music is closely related to the development of theorchestra. It is therefore critical, in understanding the symphony, to investigate the development of the orchestra. In the stretch of a hundred years, the orchestra underwent considerable change in developing into the standard symphony orchestra of the modern age. This orchestra was by far the largest of its kind in the area, and boasted many of the greatest virtuosi of the time. Upon Mozart's first visit to Mannheim in 1763, the orchestra made a huge impression on him. Besides a large orchestra, symphonies included various specific musical features and techniques, that had become trademarks of the style developed in Manheim. One Manheim composer in particular had a large impact on the orchestra and the symphony. His name is Jan Vaclav Antonin Stamic (1717– 1757) (Germanized to Johann Wenzel Anton Stamitz). He started writing orchestral works to be independent works in their own right. Orchestras no longer needed to accompany vocal genres to attain any meaning. This paved the way for what was to become known as abstract music. Stamitz wrote 58 symphonies in his lifetime, and numerous conciertos. He expanded the orchestra, with woodwinds starting to play an essential role in the orchestral timbre. The orchestra was no longer made up simply of a haphazard group of instruments, but was starting to take a fixed formal shape. Along with his contributions to the expansion of the orchestra he also adopted the formal structure of four movements for the symphony and started using a distinct development section in the first movements, which became known as sonata form. The opening movement is fast, followed by a slow second movement, the third movement would be a minuet and trio, and the fourth would end the symphony on a final Presto or Prestissimo ... • 13. Music, The Orchestra, And The Romantic Symphony Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western civilization. The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don't have any type of musical background and I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to making an orchestra and composing a music program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at "The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage." The orchestra has a lot of history that goes back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A ... I had a wonderful time and a great experience. The pieces were played very well by the orchestra and Daniel Muller–Schott. Also, the conductor, Jun Markl, seemed very passionate and involved, and I liked the fact that he acknowledged when one of the performers did a good job. The concert was well received by the audience as a whole and myself, and put me in a very happy mood. The first work that was performed was Richard Wagner's Overture from the Flying Dutchman. The vast spectrum of emotion that must be conveyed by a single person must be a challenging feat. You must be able to play fast and without break for long periods of time. I also believe that it would be merely impossible to play this piece without strong emotion and passion from the cellist, as they are the main focal point of the concert. The orchestra and the cello compliment each other seamlessly and in a way the I have never heard before. It's a perfect match and the piece wouldn't be the same without both of them in unmitigated harmony. For example, the cello may be playing softly and slow, then out of nowhere, the orchestra surprises the audience with loud, but simple tones. I believe that this is where the passion from the piece is divulged. The accompaniment is almost always grand and if I may, reminds me very much of a Beethoven like sound. The Cello Concerto's arguably second strongest theme is sadness. To me it's not a conventional sadness. It's not one of petty sorrow, but one of great loss and remembrance. As if you are remembering special times with a loved one that you dearly miss, where while you may be sad that they have past on, but you also remember the good times you had, and how they used to always make you laugh. • 15. Evolution Of Symphony Orchestra Essay Trace the general historical evolution of the symphony orchestra from Haydn's time at the Esterhazy court, to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The symphony orchestra underwent considerable evolutions from the time of Haydn at the Esterhazy court to the time of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The symphony orchestra during the classical era consisted of fewer instruments and shorter pieces. Haydn, a composer of the romantic era, wrote his compositions for small orchestras and other musical ensembles. Composing for wealthy patrons was how musicians and composers made an income for themselves Due to these small and private concerts, the orchestra's did not need to be very large. However, when the tutti played the theme with a sforzando volume, the entire audience was reengaged. The orchestra executed with elite technical precision, with all strings' bows in sync. As with the rest of the concert, the group did a nice job contrasting loud, tutti sections with minor, modulated solos, especially in the flute and clarinet. Even in a hall as cavernous as Woolsey, the orchestra did a superb job with crisp pizzicato and staccato cutoffs. The only flaw in the rendition of Brahms' symphony was extreme dynamics: the trombones played with such vigor that their sound began to spread, perpetuating the intonation problems the orchestra had throughout the concert. Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his orchestra perfect, as they did successfully. After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, "Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld," (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after. (Kahn) The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement has the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio form though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three notes of the Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall theme from the first movement. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra On September 30th, I had the pleasure of attending the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the Fisher Auditorium. We walked in quietly to the back row of our section because the show had already started, so it would have been rude to walk up to where our actual seats were. As we took our seats the orchestra sat up there in the beautiful auditorium dressed in their all black formal attire holding their various instruments including the woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussions. The orchestra was in the middle of playing Symphony No. 8 in F major, Opus 93. This symphony included 5 compositions that were all very similar to each other. In most of the compositions they took the audience on a roller coaster ride. The rhythm of the compositions would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Concert Report On Symphony Orchestra Concert Report My daughter and I attend the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra's November Masterworks symphony conducted by Stuart Malina on November 13, 2016 at The Forum. I never attended a symphony before, so I was nervous about what we should wear and if we could find are seat. I expected the audience to be in their best clothes. The men in tuxedos with top hats on and the women in lavishing gowns with pearl necklace. My experience sure enough prove me wrong in many ways than one. The symphony started at three pm so I thought if we left the house by 2:30 we should be able to have a good parking spot since not a lot of people go to symphony. "Julian Johnson, Who Needs Classical Music? Cultural Choice and Musical Value." Philosophy Of Music Education Review 22, no. 1 (2014): 96–100. This article discusses the world's need for classical music and why it will always be relevant. The author explores what makes certain things "art" and why certain other things are simply entertainment. He claims that classical music can never die because it is fundamentally different from many other types of popular music. It defines what makes art different from entertainment and answers the age old question of who gets to judge between them. In an age that dooms classical music to inevitable failure, this article offers a refreshing different perspective in a much more hopeful light. Rosenberg, Donald. • 36. Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Essay I went to the Symphony Orchestra's classical concert that premiered "Beethoven's Fifth". The event provided a small pamphlet explaining in detail the course of the concert. The primary portion of the show was presented by a short and vivacious development Rondo in D major of Mozart, and proceeded with Bernstein's Symphony No. 2. The second half of the show was dedicated to the four–development work, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor. As I was walking into the auditorium, theorchestra were being to set up and even some musicians were doing a seris of exercises on their instrument. There were such a large number of individuals there, and the lobby was substantially more swarmed than I anticipated. Everyone dressed decent and talked discreetly amongst ... After the sneak peek the performers turned out and tuned their instruments, signaled by the concertmaster. The symphony was situated on the stage; the men wore tuxedos, the ladies wore dark dresses or jeans. There were three pieces that were performed by a solo instrument but also accompanied by the rest of the orchestra. After the solo piece was performed the host would respectively introduce the solo artist and give a brief description of their background and who they are. Other than the performance piano, there were a variety of instruments that I noticed in the orchestra that we went over in class. Depaul Symphony Orchestra Concert Report On Wednesday, May 27, 2015, DePaul Symphony Orchestra held their 39th Annual Spring concert at Orchestra Hall of Chicago Symphony Orchestra center from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. When I arrived, I noticed that most of the audiences were formally dressed, including kids, students, adults, and elders. It was really crowded in the room; I estimated that there were over 300 attendees. After taking my seat, I looked around the stage and saw a huge orchestra. Brahms was known as one of the greatest composers of the nineteenth century. The symphony has four movements. The first movement began with a slow introduction, supporting by the full orchestra; the drum was the loudest one. The middle part of this movement's sound was like the sound of an action movie with people holding guns. The musicians slowly ended the first movement and started the second one. Solo violins and horns played together nicely; I felt the peace in it. The picture that I had in mind at that moment was someone walking in the forest and waiting for his or her lover. The ending sounded like he or she met the lover, and it was a happy ending. The third movement was played fast but beautifully. Finally, the last movement was played from slow to fast and loud. The drum then started to join the orchestra, and there was a horn solo part. The movement ended really fast and loud like someone trying to run to the final point. The first and last movements are not as tension as in the second and third ones. This symphony was kind of sad to me. • 38. Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Essay I decided to attend the Symphony on the Prairie on July24, 2015. I haven't been to a Symphony Orchestra since I was very young and I was unable to attend the Symphony last Friday or Saturday. My fellow classmates invited me to the concert on July 24, 2015. I wanted to view a concert so I agreed to attend the Symphony with them. I also like Harry Potter and Star Wars; and they played pieces from both movies in the Symphony concert. Unfortunately there wasn't any vocal throughout the concert but there were many instruments. These instruments include the entire string family (violin, viola, cello, and contrabass), the woodwind family (flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and contrabassoon), the brass family (English horn, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, and tuba), and the percussion family (timpani, harp, and keyboard) A few pieces gave me emotional responses .The theme from "Jaws" made me tense up a little, the music reminded me of the movie and made very conscious of my surroundings. I didn't want anything to happen to me. As I mentioned earlier I enjoy Star Wars and Harry Potter, so when they played the music I was a little excited about these music pieces being played. • 40. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Essay The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra management model is progressive, critical, stabilitative. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra model is progressive in the way they expanded the viewing of a symphony. They incorporated lyrics as well as a slide show. The management understood the decline in attendance to the Symphony and made a judgement to incorporate multiple dimensions of art to expand their audience. The Orchestra also saw the importance of progression with the community presence. • 41. Chicago Symphony Orchestra Description Essay Entering the Chicago Symphony Center my face must have looked completely memorized as I gazed at the design and architecture structure that was before me. The amount of intricate detail that was on the ceilings and trim work must have taken months to complete with a construction army. As I walked through the hall and stepped into the elevator the smell of fresh clean red carpets filled the air with a slight scent of floral. The symphony was conducted by former CSO Principal Conductor Bernard Haitink. The style of the Mahler Symphony No.7 is classical with five movements. Sonata form is the first movement with an introduction of slow tempo, pace of the music, that began with a dark timbre sounding from a baritone horn. The exposition concludes with a march theme that has the repetition of the march theme from the introduction. I think this had more of an emotional effect on me than the first piece because of the gentleness of the music. I like the balance between the stringed instruments and the band. Grieg "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Peer Gynt The piece began with the celloists and bassists plucking their strings, then the violins joined. The dynamic of the first half was moderately loud. The rhythm picks up and the beat is faster and louder with the repetition of the plucking by the same instruments. As the piece concludes, the tempo speeds up quickly and the dynamic of forte was present, ending in a sudden stop. My initial reaction to this piece was that it gave off a creepy and mysterious vibe. The plucking of the stringed instruments felt as though we were tiptoeing through a horror story. When the tempo got faster, I felt the suspense and my heart racing. I enjoyed the abrupt stop at the end of the piece because it was unexpected considering how fast the music was going and was a pleasant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
