1. Topic of the lesson:
Numbers in our School‘s
History
Time:
45 minutes
2. Warm up:
What dates or other numerical information
related to our school‘s history do you know?
3. Aim of the lesson:
By solving and creating mathematical problems
students will improve their mathematical skills
and learn some facts about their school‘s
history.
Students will improve their communication,
collaboration, creativity and critical thinking
competences.
4. Step 1. Solve the problem. Using the
Internet find what the answer means in
your school‘s history. Work in pairs.
One day a grocery shop sold 250 kilos of potatoes.
Another day they sold 20% more of potatoes. On
the third day the shop sold 2.5 times more than on
both the first and second days taken together. On the
fourth day they sold the remaining 72 kilos. How
many kilos of potatoes did the shop sell during
those four days?
5. Step 2. Solve the problem. Using the
Internet find what the answer means
in your school‘s history. Work in pairs.

6. Step 3. Find one more important date in
your school‘s history on the Internet
and create a problem. It can be either a
word problem or an arithmetic problem.
Make a slide with the problem and its
solution. Work in pairs.
7. Revise the two dates.
Students present the dates and events which they
used while creating their problems.
