For this paper I will be talking about Professionalism. I chose to write about this topic because after
talking about this in class. There are certain qualities to professionalism you must learn which is
having great Appearance, Demeanor, Reliability, Competence, Ethics, Maintaining Your Temper,
Accountability and Phone Etiquette. So I bet your wondering what is professionalism according to
(Merriam) and (Porcupile) Professionalism is the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or
mark a profession or a professional person. I was actually unaware of how much the word
professionalism really played a part of your daily life. Professionalism plays a part in the way you

Before starting this Introduction to Healthcare this quarter I actually thought professionalism was
only about how you dressed yourself, but now I know that your attitude and the way that you
conduct yourself plays an important part in professionalism as well. How you present your work is
also a part of professionalism.
What I feel about professionalism is it plays a big part in your everyday life because it can have an
impact your day to day interactions with any and every one. It could place you in a category rather
the person verbalize that to you or not it plays a part. The people you attract to yourself and the jobs
that you may be eligible for depending on the way you conduct yourself. Which may not seem big
but it is a huge deal.
Professionalism will be used in my career on a daily basis. I would have to come to work prepared
and on time. I have to come to work dressed like I am ready to work in the field that I'm currently in
or want to be in by wearing scrubs and the proper shoes with safety in mind. It will also be used
when talking to Doctors, coworkers, patients and their families. Sometimes I would have to place
the integrity of the profession and the interests of residents, clients, visitors and coworkers above
those of my own interests. I would have to communicate with insurance companies at times so it is a
very good idea for me to perfect

The book also talks about the life of a professional. It talks about how life for professionals has
gotten harder with recent business. Small business professionals have to fend off big businesses that
don't care for their customers or care about fair business. Unprofessionalism is commonly found in
bigger business that don't have a strong bond between customers and the staff. Big business just
shuffles people in and out of the store, selling their goods and not caring if it is what the customer
really needs. True Professionals care about their customers, they care about their situation, and what
they like and dislike. The book talks about incentives and rewards programs. Some businesses use
cash rewards given to employees for good work, sort of like commission. What businesses don't
realize is that having employees motivate themselves to achieve incentives can only last a little
while. Employees need more motivation. Motivation from employers doesn't have to be rewards or
incentives, but a simple "Good job." Or "Keep up the good work." Can keep employees happy.
Incentives are a good thing to have and use, but there has to be more to it. The book says that you
should act helpful from the beginning, not once you get paid. Be helpful from the beginning. Since
you are a professional and that is your business, you are obligated to help a customer who generally
knows much less then you do about the topic.

Apprenticeship Narrative
Motives for applying for apprenticeship program.
I have been working in long–term care for eleven years and with my new degree in Health
Information Management would like to transition into a H.I.M. career. An apprenticeship is a great
way to learn about a specific industry while gaining on the job training. I have experienced this
before via the University of Tennessee at Knoxville's Veterinarian school summer intern program
and the summer science research program at Temple University. Both were great experiences that I
have never forgotten. They both allowed me to learn about an industry, gain real world experience,
meet a diverse group of people, and help me decide what my future career path would be. In
essence, I have a passion for research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Big data will continue to grow even bigger with the advancement of technology and the
implementation of more interconnected health systems. The focus will continue to shift from
episodic care to preventative care for larger populations especially the chronically ill. Healthcare
delivery will continue to shift away from episodic to continuum model. The above changes inspire
me to be a part of positive changes within the healthcare field that H.I.M. is providing. The federal
government will increase regulations to do so and may or may not provide ongoing monetary
incentives for providers to keep up.
Define what professionalism means to you.
Character traits that should be included in professionalism are strong work ethic, respect, and
integrity and going above and beyond what is expected while delivering excellent customer service.
Honesty is necessary with those you are serving and reporting to. In addition, I believe that
possessing good communication skills and a can do attitude coupled with teamwork exudes
professionalism. Lastly, I do not think that professionalism is one quality instead it is a combination
of several qualities, the most essential in my opinion have been mentioned

Physical Therapy Professionalism Essay
What is professionalism? In the general sense of the word, I think it means to apply principles such
as competence, communication, respect, consideration, and accountability in a work based setting.
What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapy degree
program? The American Physical Therapist Association defines professionalism as "Physical
therapists consistently demonstrate core values by aspiring to and wisely applying principles of
altruism, excellence, caring, ethics, respect, communication and accountability, and by working
together with other professionals to achieve optimal health and wellness in individuals and
communities". In this definition, I think some of the most important aspects that can translate over
to a student in the doctor of physical therapy degree program are communication,
competence/excellence and accountability. Although the other aspects are important these are a few
that stand out to me personally.
Communication is single handily the most important aspect of professionalism that a student will
need to use in the pursuit of their doctorate degree in physical therapy and beyond. As a student the
skill of communication will be applied to many areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies as student you are willing to own up to problems and have a solution in mind. For
example if you were having problems understanding material, a solution would be to find a study

accountable for their education. Therefore, if a student is not accountable for their education or
actions, it will not only affect their grades but most importantly it will affect patient

Examples Of Professionalism In Healthcare
Professionalism is important when it comes to working at any job throughout your lifetime. After
attending the college kick–off event on Wednesday, January 25, I learned more of what
professionalism is in a health care profession. To me, professionalism means being the best
employee that you can be. Being honest, responsible, and available are all examples of being an
employee with professionalism. To begin, since I am a nursing major, honesty will be very
important in my career. Honesty involves telling the truth all the time no matter what. This trait will
be important when speaking with patients, doctors, or anyone that will need to know important
information. For example, if a nurse were to lie while evaluating a patient and wrote down false
information, the patient could potentially not get what they need to become better. Nurses should
never lie because they're in the health field to help people not fail them. Honesty is a great
characteristic for anyone in the work field. Secondly, responsibility is also a trait a nurse should
have. Nurses have to be responsible because they are handling so many different things such as:
equipment, private information, medicines, and much more. Also, a nurse on shift is responsible for
their patients. If the patient is in need of something, it is the nurse's ... Show more content on

From my experiences of working, I have noticed my bosses always liked when people were
available. Availability is important because it lets people know that you are ready and willing to
work. It doesn't always mean that you have to say yes if you are called and asked to work. It could
also mean being available when you have a shift. For example, you should always be on time for
your shift. Being on time for a shift shows that you are responsible and available while working.
Also, a nurse always needs to be available for their patients. Availability will show that you care for

Professionalism, Gender, Ethnicity, Or Sexual Preference?...
Professionalism
My definition of professionalism is to be as professional as possible when in the classroom, meeting
with colleagues, and talking to parents and guardians. Professionalism to me is also introducing new
cultures and holidays to my students only after doing an immense amount of research and consulting
with people in those cultures. Professionalism is also understanding the gender roles, sexualities,
and families of the students in my classroom.
A professional classroom teacher must be open–minded and non–biased towards their students and
their families. A professional classroom teacher must not let their own personal views affect their
relationship with their students, their families, and their colleagues. Professionalism to me means
treating every student, parent, and colleague the same with no regards for their race, gender, gender
identity, religion, culture, ethnicity, or sexual preference.
A major theme that surrounds the notion of professionalism is that a teacher must first come to terms
with their identity before they can move on and form a bond with their students. As an educator it is
my duty to understand other cultures and to challenge the biases the world has placed on them.
However, an educator cannot challenge the biases placed upon others, if the educator does not first
challenge the biases placed upon them. I've learned that in this world if you make enough of an
effort you will be rewarded, and as a future educator I'm willing to make as

Professionalism
Annestasia O'Connor
Brown Mackie College South Bend Merriam–Webster dictionary defines professionalism as "the
skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job
well" (Merriam–Webster, 1828). I believe nurses are held to a higher standard of professionalism
due to the importance and severity of their jobs.
Val Gokenbach states: "We bear the tremendous responsibility of upholding the values of our
profession. Our core nursing values define the driving force that dictates our beliefs and our
behaviors. Nursing as a profession embodies many values inherent in those who pursue nursing
careers. When nurses are asked to identify their core values, they are surprisingly ... Show more

Nurses must remember that even though their job can be stressful, it's often no match for the anxiety
created by being a patient or having a loved one in the hospital. While it's natural for nurses to feel
overwhelmed by their jobs, it's important they don't let this affect how they treat patients. If they're
dismissive or cranky, the patient will feel disregarded, which could in turn affect his attitude,
making him feel hopeless and discouraged. Nurses must strive to approach every patient in a
friendly, optimistic and caring manner, setting their personal concerns aside while they're at work.
Health care is a team effort, so it's imperative that nurses maintain professional, collaborative
relationships with doctors, fellow nurses and other health–care staff. Even if a nurse dislikes a
coworker, she must place her patients' health ahead of her feelings and do whatever it takes to work
together. If conflict arises, nurses must make an effort to resolve the situation in a way that supports
the patient's recovery, even if that means compromising or letting another nurse take the lead. It's
also important for nurses to foster positive relationships with their patients. If a patient trusts his
nurse and feels that she's taken an interest in his case, he'll be more likely to speak up if he has
questions or concerns, or if he's experiencing pain,

Professionalism As A Nurse Is So Much More Than Someone...
A nurse is so much more than someone who administers medication, performs physical
examinations, and establishes treatment plans. Nurses do not just listen to their patients needs, they
advocate for them. They do not just take care of the suffering and ill, they have empathy for them.
They do not just treat injuries and wounds, they heal the mind body and spirit. Being a nurse is not
just a job title, it is an identity. It involves many core concepts and incorporates many values and
beliefs. Being a nurse includes the concepts professionalism and patient and family – centered care.

Nurses and physicians would get no input from the patient on their wishes for treatment and care
(Giddens, 2016). Health Care has recently advanced by adopting the patient and family centered
care model which was designed to "recognize the patient or designee as the source of control and
full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respects for the patient's
preferences, values, and needs" (Knuths, 2017). This model allows patients to have a voice on what
happens to their bodies and allows them to actively participate in their care. It has also allowed the
patient's family and loved ones to be involved. This involvement has given the patient a strong
support system with their best interest in mind. Moving towards this concept has made nurses more
aware of patient's cultural differences, spiritual differences, family preferences, and personal values.
This system has lead to better overall care and patient satisfaction. Care has become about the
patient and not the provider (Knuths, 2017).
It is important to integrate the concept professionalism into your nursing career because it allows
you to flourish personally as a nurse but more importantly allows the patient to receive the care they
deserve. Throughout the course of one's nursing career there will be many slips and falls. Mistakes
will happen but we as nurses are able to reflect and learn from them in a

Professionalism: A Career In Physical Therapy
Professionalism is not really something that is expected from a student but I really started thinking it
about it once I came along to this question and I asked myself, "why not?". I believe professionalism
can be applied anywhere in life no matter whether you are a student, a physical therapist, a brick
layer, or a part–time worker. Being a professional does not mean being great at what you do but also
having great attitude towards your job and being efficient and precise whether it is a small job or the
most important project of your life. In my case, I can say I learned what professionalism was a very

Nursing Professionalism: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis
Professionalism in Nursing The nursing profession is a highly respectable yet challenging field.
Nurses are faced each day with new obstacles and new technologies that they must keep up with.
The registered nurse of modern times is seen as an upstanding position with great responsibility.
One of the most essential, if not the most important to a registered nurse, is professionalism.
Professionalism in nursing is essential in providing clients and other staff members optimal health in
which the environment we work in. Nursing utilizes evidence–based practice or, in other words,
practices that have proven over time to work. Nurses contribute to the medical field in a variety of
ways, including professionalism. Nurses discuss evidence that contributes to solve problems,
provide care that reflects positive outcomes for patients, doctors and other organizations, as well as
come up with ideas that manifest into successful practices (RNAO, 2007). Nursing, itself, is a ...

The Importance Of Professionalism And Professional Behavior
According to me, Professionalism and professional behavior is very context specific. It requires us
to behave appropriately at all times and in all situations. Professionalism requires us to make
difficult judgments and requires us to challenge poor practices and unacceptable behaviour and
attitudes. A person should be easily approachable, polite, courteous, respectable and confident.
Having dignity and self respect is also very professional.
Shaking another professional hands firmly, maintaining a proper and distinct eye contact, shaking
your head and replying to everything another fellow says all contribute to professionalism.
We keep on telling ourselves that we need to meet more people and that our circle of influence
needs to be strengthened. We always want out skills and talents to be discovered. Our career requires
us to network. In today's competitive and dynamic world, we all have to be more professional than
ever. Networking requires a strategic approach that we can learn from while introducing ourselves to
professionals. Being strategic and viewing networking through an opportunity vision can prove to be
a powerful professional development.
As a college student, I display professionalism every moment of my day. Be it with fellow student, a
professor, a teacher's assistant or even the college employees. I always keep the door open if there

Professionalism Definition Essay
Being a professional individual is something that most people strive to be,
however, the word professional can be interpreted many different ways depending
on ones job, position or certification. The Webster dictionary defines
professionalism as "the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a
profession or a professional person." Google defines professionalism as "the
practicing of an activity, especially a sport, by a professional rather than amateur
players." In Public Relations, professionalism is a huge part in how we do business.

When this happens it is hard for students to juggle professionalism as
well as setting aside time for school work with their personal lives, this is why it is
important to be in a program you enjoy and can dedicate a portion of your time to;
otherwise like the quote states, your quality work and motivation suffers.
In conclusion, even though professionalism has more than one definition, they all
have one thing in common and that similarity is clearly stated as someone who has
passion and commitment for what they do. There are many different ways to
improve a persons professionalism, some more obvious than others, like attending
class and handing assignments in on time. What I have learned is that even though I
don't agree with the definition of professionalism and how it is applied to college
students, I still owe my professors, other faculty and fellow students, who do enjoy

Professionalism In Physical Therapy
Explaining professionalism by simply asserting what you desire as a student is not achievable. You
need life experience to explain what professionalism means. Professionalism is not something that
you accomplish occasionally; it needs a rooted presence in your life. As a physical therapy student,
application of my experiences in what constitutes a professional in all possible environments is
paramount. While physical therapy schools are distinctive, professionalism stays the same. My
undergraduate education along with internship experience hard–wired professionalism into daily life
and will propel my future in graduate school.

Accordingly, altruism became a mainstay. Proctoring physical therapists indoctrinated the
fundamental that you put every need of a patient before your own, and always shooting for a higher
level of care than the majority would accept. Specifically, they would always let patients come in on
occasions separate from their appointments and utilize the exercise equipment as required. As the
intern, building a priority to support all patients that came in with total guidance and instruction
became predominant. This leads to the other key to professionalism, humility. During my internship,
constant quizzing ingrained that you constrain the need to answer every question. Giving a "best
guess" will lead to negative repercussions. Correspondingly, observations of the physical therapists
themselves refer innumerable times to other professionals; be it the patient's doctor, another
therapist, or a dietitian. Seeing how various physical therapists operated also reinforced the belief of
professional duty. The pride every therapist had in the profession, the mentoring that each provided,
and the amount of work put towards every patient left my mind with a profound impression. Equally
important, the consciousness of unspoiled care and compassion. Listening to other undergraduates
and professors explain that you would have "problem patients"; this idea became entrenched in my
head when starting. Contrarily, their concepts never materialized. Wanting to help the patients that
had numerous struggles, or purely had countless debilitating injuries constituted as the goal.
Contemplating unique exercises, finer cues, or improved ways to motivate perpetuated my evenings.
Moreover; considering a patient ingenuously as a "knee", or "rotator cuff", or even just a patient was
never a possibility. They were always people and people with their own particular

1.3. Universal social behaviors in medical teams
Dominant culture in medical teams is one of the factors that can affect professionalism. It has
become universal through repeating, and thus most people do not pay attention to it as being
professional. For example, the culture of arrogance and taking doctors and other medical staff
superior to the populace is a universal culture in medical teams that can affect the professional
conduct of faculty members. One of the participants said: "This is a cultural problem ... I 'm a
specialist myself but it 's really this way. The feeling of grandiose that the system gives to the
doctors means that they do whatever they want..."

competence encompasses more than just job knowledge. While being technically competent to
perform all necessary job functions is vital, a commitment to continually improve is essential. With

Professionalism And Professionalism : Professionalism Essay
Everywhere you go and in everything you do, professionalism comes in to account in some way or
another. Professionalism has been defined as, "a strict adherence to courtesy, honesty and
responsibility when dealing with individuals or other companies in the business environment"
(Clarke, 2015). When it comes to the career of nursing, professionalism is taken to a whole other
level. Not only does professionalism come in to account with your business professionals and peers,
but you have patients with whom professionalism is highly practiced as well. Professionalism in
nursing means that you are able to handle all the responsibilities given to you in an efficient and
proper way. It means that when you are given an order that needs to be carried out by a doctor or a
patient who needs your help, you adhere to what is being expected of you in a timely manner.
Physicians put trust into nurses in order to carry out orders that are needed to save patients' lives. If
you're not looked at as professional and responsible, it is going to be very hard to have a successful
career. Responsibility is what nursing is all about. Professionalism in nursing means that along with
taking on big responsibilities, you have discipline. Discipline in nursing is crucial to being
successful. Not only to keep your patients safe, but so that you personally are on the ball and looked

Nursing And Professionalism
When working in the health care setting, I believe that it is the responsibility of everyone to dress in
a manner that conveys confidence and professionalism to the patients. Today, when it comes to

Definition Of Professionalism In The Workplace
"The Merriam–Webster dictionary defines professionalism as "the conduct, aims, or qualities that
characterize or mark a profession or a professional person"; and it defines a profession as "a calling
requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation."(Developing
This Vital Characteristic.) Although this may be true, this definition of professionalism is far too
vague. With this definition a professional person can be anyone who is being provided a monetary
amount for any service they provide. Being professional means knowing how to properly speak and
behave. This includes being professional at work, home and how to act professionally in your own
career field .

The Emergency Medicine Physician Essay Essay
On a busy Monday evening, the emergency medicine physician I was working with started to get a
history from our 52–year–old male patient who presented asking for a refill on his pain medication.
As more information was gathered, it was revealed that the patient had run out of his medication two
months earlier and had yet to set up an appointment with his primary care physician. The physician
bluntly cut the patient off, informing him that he needed to make an appointment with his primary
care physician, as he would not be refilling the prescription due to the department's policy of not
refilling narcotic prescriptions. The patient became very enraged at this news. The physician then
promptly left the room as a result. As we exited, the patient began spitting at us, then he quickly left
the department while loudly swearing at the doctor. Personally, this patient–provider interaction was
one of the first interactions that made me truly start to critically analyze what the term medical
professionalism meant and what the responsibilities of a medical professional consisted of.
At first, I started contemplating whether the patient was right to be upset or if my physician was
correct with his treatment toward the man. Immediately, my first thought was that obviously the
physician was right as this patient was just enraged because he could not have his narcotics.
However, as I recalled the event in my head, it just did not sit right with me. Since no one left the
situation happy,

differed from the academic attitude I developed. Professionalism in the context of being a student in
a doctor of physical therapist degree program involves the transitioning from the academic into the

professionalism that I have observed. After observing various physical therapists in inpatient and

What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of the physical therapist degree
program?
Professional Responsibilities
Professionalism is a characteristic one attainable by a series of conduct that aims towards being the
best one can be. This can be reflected by actions such as the way someone talks and walks. The
characteristics of a leader would be a perfect example of professionalism. These characteristics are
as follows: ethics, responsibility, great habits, desire for knowledge, skills, humbleness, politeness,
wisdom, compassion, loyalty, respect and understanding. These are some of the many qualities one
must attain towards being professional. The application of these qualities defines the "ism" at the
end of professionalism and that for me it indicates the state of being.
Professionalism in the context of being a student of physical therapy means you will study without

Motivation Of Professionalism And Success

Motivation to Professionalism Student professionalism and success are required to work together to
motivate the student to be an efficient employee in the future. I am a good example of a student in
progress because I always arrive on time to my classes or work; follow any directions from my
professors or employers, and follow ethics that influence my professional behavior towards other
individuals. These ideas and ethics will benefit me in the future because it will satisfy the
requirements of employers and will assist me in to obtaining promotions. Professionalism and
success is what humans need to survive in modern society. As you read, you will need a basic
understanding of ethics and what do they propose towards professionalism. My ethics allowed me to
be a great example of student success because every day is one step closer to my educational goals.
In order to reach my educational goals, I must follow three simple expectations; arrive on time to
class and work to be prepared for assignments and tasks provided by the professor or supervisor.
When I follow my ethics, it allows me to behave professionally and accomplish my responsibilities
as they come and go. For professional behavior, my definition for student success has now expanded
beyond the achievement of goals into a larger realization that success is interdependent and
systemic. It doesn't begin and end with the individual or even two individuals.

Evaluating The Two Independent Variables In Police...
When looking at the concept of police professionalism in a manner such as to operationalize it we
must evaluate the different independent variables and their relationship with the dependent variable
in question. Police professionalism would be the dependent variable to be considered. The first
independent variable that I would address when looking into this would be that of an officers job
knowledge. The ability of an officer to be knowledgeable in the law as it pertains to enforcement is
detrimental to professionalism. For an officer to be professional he must understand what it is that
he is applying and enforcing.
The second independent variable relating to police professionalism is trustworthiness. If an officer is
not trust worthy he can not be trusted. Now that statement is obvious but in a deeper sense his ability
to do his job is based upon the trust of the public he is appointed to serve. An officers job directly
relates to his or her ability to be trusted which relates back to the first variable. If an officer can not
be trusted then the public can not trust that an officer is being honest in the way they are dealing
with a certain legal matter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This relates to the second variable in that an officer has to be loyal to the cause and be honest. If an
officer is not loyal he can not be trusted to do his job in the proper manner. This variable is recursive
to the variable of trustworthiness in that they are both required to have successive results. Loyalty
refers to being devoted to a certain moral capacity or value. It can also refer to being devoted to a
certain ideal or group of ideals. A professional officer is devoted to knowing his job knowledge
while being trusted by the public and remaining faithful to the cause without corruption by outside

subjects so that the reader may have a full understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject
on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to
avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second definition
needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional character,
spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is the key
phrase to take from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third
definition needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay
is, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have
certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the definition of
respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect is defined as to regard
or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way
you handle yourself in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face
many situations that you may not understand or agree with and the

Professionalism In The Workplace Essay
What is Professionalism? When first thinking about this one might conjure up images of
professional athletes such as, Steph Curry, Cam Newton or Sidney Crosby. Others might think of of
professionals in the arts, perhaps Yo–Yo Ma or Michelangelo. While each of them are professionals
in their respected field, this paper will be discussing professionalism in the workplace.
Professionalism comes down to two basic ideas: treat others with respect and give your work the
respect it deserves. Joshua De Vera Bautista said it best when he said, "Since you cannot always
carry and display your diploma. Kindly act like you have one. Professionalism. Include that to your
dictionary." The goal is for everyone to be seen an outstanding employee and acting professional
helps tremendously with that, especially with a first impression.
Treating others with respect means you need to take yourself seriously and this is crucial to have a
good first impression. What you wear is a big part of it. It is always to overdress than underdress.

professional doesn't end at the door of your company, being professional to the customers is crucial
and will make the difference in a company.
Having professionalism in the workplace isn't something you are born with, it is a skill that can

Professionalism is the ability to uphold responsible appearance, behavior and communication. It
means that you look and present yourself as positively as possible whether in appearance or

means to be a professional one must sacrifice values and opinions to uphold the appearance of the
profession or workplace. To be a professional it means that one must sacrifice immature behavior
and place more value on the goal of the task. Professionalism is a "way of life" that cannot just be

in public eye. It needs to be earned though experience and example. I particularly like the tip "When

important to admit when one makes a mistake and not to cover it up. A professional is able to work

Professionalism Is Defined As Work Place Behaviors
To remain productive and successful in the workplace, an individual must maintain a superior level
of professionalism. Professionalism is defined as work–place behaviors that result in positive
business relationships. In the How–Do–You–Rate assessments, all of my results showed a clear
understanding in business etiquette. To put in my own words what professionalism means to me, it
is your ability to demonstrate yourself in an appropriate, responsible, goal–determined manner,
while working respectively and alongside your business community. Your professionalism is
presented by you and interpreted by others. The projections you portray to others can
increase/decrease the value of your input in the workplace. I have developed an action plan that will
guide myself to achieve the highest professionalism possible. I decided to call my brother up to ask
his input on professionalism. Jason is a graduate from Georgetown University with a finance major.
He is currently working for a commercial real estate finance company in Washington D.C. and is
blessed with a great job and great opportunities'. I asked him how he defines professionalism, and he

Professionalism : Being A Professional
"If you were a real professional, you 'd build a bridge and get over it." By Jacqueline E. Smith,
author of Between Worlds. A very common definition of professionalism is "the competence or skill

while staying away from immature attitudes at professional sating. Professionalism is some thing
that you learned by adhering to work place standard of professionalism. However, there are certain
universal professionalism behavior that is accepted from an individual whenever they enter work

made. To me it is important to show that even if I have made an error I am willing to learn from my
mistakes. Also, most institution made their employers sign a confidentiality agreement, so it is

Respect means to treat others with "acceptance, dignity and respect." (Williams, 2016, p. 93). As
nurses, we will encounter many patients with unique cultures and traits. Cultural sensitivity is
defined in our Medical Surgical Book as, "knowing a politically correct language and not making
statements that may antagonize another person's cultural beliefs, and cultural competence includes
the skills and knowledge required to provide adequate nursing care". (Williams & Hopper, 2011).
These two traits together liked talked about previously again, helps to begin to build trust. If the

Practicing Student Professionalism
Professionalism can be defined in many different ways and from different perspectives.
Professionalism is about a lot more than just following policies and procedures. It is also about
having essential behaviors such as right attitude, appearance, ethics, knowledge, competence,
perseverance, dedication, self–improving and many more. Student professionalism is much more
than simply acquiring the best training and skills; it's also about how a person behaves and acts in
order to achieve his or her goals. However, professionalism is not just for people with higher
degrees. It's present in everybody's daily life regardless of his or her level of education. It should
also extend to an individual's personal life as well to some extent. Humans don't born knowing how
to develop a professional attitude, but in order to be success in life we have to learn and practice
good attitudes and behaviors that a professional person should have. Now at days the majority of our
new generations suffer of lack of professionalism. Many students don't take seriously his or her role
as a student or as an employee at some jobs. Good manners and values are really important in a
person's life because that depends in how his or her future will be. If a student don't show up to
class, comes late most of time, don't turn in homework on time and don't respect himself or herself
is not likely to reach any of its goals and if he or she acts unprofessionally in something so simple as
school. We can imagine

  • 1. Professionalism Essay For this paper I will be talking about Professionalism. I chose to write about this topic because after talking about this in class. There are certain qualities to professionalism you must learn which is having great Appearance, Demeanor, Reliability, Competence, Ethics, Maintaining Your Temper, Accountability and Phone Etiquette. So I bet your wondering what is professionalism according to (Merriam) and (Porcupile) Professionalism is the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. I was actually unaware of how much the word professionalism really played a part of your daily life. Professionalism plays a part in the way you appear to others the way that you communicate as well as your work ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before starting this Introduction to Healthcare this quarter I actually thought professionalism was only about how you dressed yourself, but now I know that your attitude and the way that you conduct yourself plays an important part in professionalism as well. How you present your work is also a part of professionalism. What I feel about professionalism is it plays a big part in your everyday life because it can have an impact your day to day interactions with any and every one. It could place you in a category rather the person verbalize that to you or not it plays a part. The people you attract to yourself and the jobs that you may be eligible for depending on the way you conduct yourself. Which may not seem big but it is a huge deal. Professionalism will be used in my career on a daily basis. I would have to come to work prepared and on time. I have to come to work dressed like I am ready to work in the field that I'm currently in or want to be in by wearing scrubs and the proper shoes with safety in mind. It will also be used when talking to Doctors, coworkers, patients and their families. Sometimes I would have to place the integrity of the profession and the interests of residents, clients, visitors and coworkers above those of my own interests. I would have to communicate with insurance companies at times so it is a very good idea for me to perfect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on Book Review "True Professionalism" Brian Lawson Mrs. Jochim Entrepreneurship Book Review 12/1/05 About the Author David Maister is a world–wide management consultant to professional service forms. He consults to lawyers, accountants, and other services. Has consulted globally for over 2 decades. David provides firms with different ideas, strategies, and designs, but ultimately the firm usually makes an internal committee to make the strategy. His areas of expertise are strategy, marketing, human resources, organization, compensation, reward systems, and profitability improvement. David believes that it is better for firms to make their own decisions under the guidance of his counseling, but always presents to companies that have specific goals in mind to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book also talks about the life of a professional. It talks about how life for professionals has gotten harder with recent business. Small business professionals have to fend off big businesses that don't care for their customers or care about fair business. Unprofessionalism is commonly found in bigger business that don't have a strong bond between customers and the staff. Big business just shuffles people in and out of the store, selling their goods and not caring if it is what the customer really needs. True Professionals care about their customers, they care about their situation, and what they like and dislike. The book talks about incentives and rewards programs. Some businesses use cash rewards given to employees for good work, sort of like commission. What businesses don't realize is that having employees motivate themselves to achieve incentives can only last a little while. Employees need more motivation. Motivation from employers doesn't have to be rewards or incentives, but a simple "Good job." Or "Keep up the good work." Can keep employees happy. Incentives are a good thing to have and use, but there has to be more to it. The book says that you should act helpful from the beginning, not once you get paid. Be helpful from the beginning. Since you are a professional and that is your business, you are obligated to help a customer who generally knows much less then you do about the topic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Apprenticeship Narrative Motives for applying for apprenticeship program. I have been working in long–term care for eleven years and with my new degree in Health Information Management would like to transition into a H.I.M. career. An apprenticeship is a great way to learn about a specific industry while gaining on the job training. I have experienced this before via the University of Tennessee at Knoxville's Veterinarian school summer intern program and the summer science research program at Temple University. Both were great experiences that I have never forgotten. They both allowed me to learn about an industry, gain real world experience, meet a diverse group of people, and help me decide what my future career path would be. In essence, I have a passion for research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Big data will continue to grow even bigger with the advancement of technology and the implementation of more interconnected health systems. The focus will continue to shift from episodic care to preventative care for larger populations especially the chronically ill. Healthcare delivery will continue to shift away from episodic to continuum model. The above changes inspire me to be a part of positive changes within the healthcare field that H.I.M. is providing. The federal government will increase regulations to do so and may or may not provide ongoing monetary incentives for providers to keep up. Define what professionalism means to you. Character traits that should be included in professionalism are strong work ethic, respect, and integrity and going above and beyond what is expected while delivering excellent customer service. Honesty is necessary with those you are serving and reporting to. In addition, I believe that possessing good communication skills and a can do attitude coupled with teamwork exudes professionalism. Lastly, I do not think that professionalism is one quality instead it is a combination of several qualities, the most essential in my opinion have been mentioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Physical Therapy Professionalism Essay What is professionalism? In the general sense of the word, I think it means to apply principles such as competence, communication, respect, consideration, and accountability in a work based setting. What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapy degree program? The American Physical Therapist Association defines professionalism as "Physical therapists consistently demonstrate core values by aspiring to and wisely applying principles of altruism, excellence, caring, ethics, respect, communication and accountability, and by working together with other professionals to achieve optimal health and wellness in individuals and communities". In this definition, I think some of the most important aspects that can translate over to a student in the doctor of physical therapy degree program are communication, competence/excellence and accountability. Although the other aspects are important these are a few that stand out to me personally. Communication is single handily the most important aspect of professionalism that a student will need to use in the pursuit of their doctorate degree in physical therapy and beyond. As a student the skill of communication will be applied to many areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. Examples Of Professionalism In Healthcare Professionalism is important when it comes to working at any job throughout your lifetime. After attending the college kick–off event on Wednesday, January 25, I learned more of what professionalism is in a health care profession. To me, professionalism means being the best employee that you can be. Being honest, responsible, and available are all examples of being an employee with professionalism. To begin, since I am a nursing major, honesty will be very important in my career. Honesty involves telling the truth all the time no matter what. This trait will be important when speaking with patients, doctors, or anyone that will need to know important information. For example, if a nurse were to lie while evaluating a patient and wrote down false information, the patient could potentially not get what they need to become better. Nurses should never lie because they're in the health field to help people not fail them. Honesty is a great characteristic for anyone in the work field. Secondly, responsibility is also a trait a nurse should have. Nurses have to be responsible because they are handling so many different things such as: equipment, private information, medicines, and much more. Also, a nurse on shift is responsible for their patients. If the patient is in need of something, it is the nurse's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From my experiences of working, I have noticed my bosses always liked when people were available. Availability is important because it lets people know that you are ready and willing to work. It doesn't always mean that you have to say yes if you are called and asked to work. It could also mean being available when you have a shift. For example, you should always be on time for your shift. Being on time for a shift shows that you are responsible and available while working. Also, a nurse always needs to be available for their patients. Availability will show that you care for your job and your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Professionalism, Gender, Ethnicity, Or Sexual Preference?... Professionalism My definition of professionalism is to be as professional as possible when in the classroom, meeting with colleagues, and talking to parents and guardians. Professionalism to me is also introducing new cultures and holidays to my students only after doing an immense amount of research and consulting with people in those cultures. Professionalism is also understanding the gender roles, sexualities, and families of the students in my classroom. A professional classroom teacher must be open–minded and non–biased towards their students and their families. A professional classroom teacher must not let their own personal views affect their relationship with their students, their families, and their colleagues. Professionalism to me means treating every student, parent, and colleague the same with no regards for their race, gender, gender identity, religion, culture, ethnicity, or sexual preference. A major theme that surrounds the notion of professionalism is that a teacher must first come to terms with their identity before they can move on and form a bond with their students. As an educator it is my duty to understand other cultures and to challenge the biases the world has placed on them. However, an educator cannot challenge the biases placed upon others, if the educator does not first challenge the biases placed upon them. I've learned that in this world if you make enough of an effort you will be rewarded, and as a future educator I'm willing to make as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Professionalism In Nursing Research Paper Professionalism Annestasia O'Connor Brown Mackie College South Bend Merriam–Webster dictionary defines professionalism as "the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well" (Merriam–Webster, 1828). I believe nurses are held to a higher standard of professionalism due to the importance and severity of their jobs. Val Gokenbach states: "We bear the tremendous responsibility of upholding the values of our profession. Our core nursing values define the driving force that dictates our beliefs and our behaviors. Nursing as a profession embodies many values inherent in those who pursue nursing careers. When nurses are asked to identify their core values, they are surprisingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nurses must remember that even though their job can be stressful, it's often no match for the anxiety created by being a patient or having a loved one in the hospital. While it's natural for nurses to feel overwhelmed by their jobs, it's important they don't let this affect how they treat patients. If they're dismissive or cranky, the patient will feel disregarded, which could in turn affect his attitude, making him feel hopeless and discouraged. Nurses must strive to approach every patient in a friendly, optimistic and caring manner, setting their personal concerns aside while they're at work. Health care is a team effort, so it's imperative that nurses maintain professional, collaborative relationships with doctors, fellow nurses and other health–care staff. Even if a nurse dislikes a coworker, she must place her patients' health ahead of her feelings and do whatever it takes to work together. If conflict arises, nurses must make an effort to resolve the situation in a way that supports the patient's recovery, even if that means compromising or letting another nurse take the lead. It's also important for nurses to foster positive relationships with their patients. If a patient trusts his nurse and feels that she's taken an interest in his case, he'll be more likely to speak up if he has questions or concerns, or if he's experiencing pain, ... • 29. Professionalism As A Nurse Is So Much More Than Someone... A nurse is so much more than someone who administers medication, performs physical examinations, and establishes treatment plans. Nurses do not just listen to their patients needs, they advocate for them. They do not just take care of the suffering and ill, they have empathy for them. They do not just treat injuries and wounds, they heal the mind body and spirit. Being a nurse is not just a job title, it is an identity. It involves many core concepts and incorporates many values and beliefs. Being a nurse includes the concepts professionalism and patient and family – centered care. Both in which relate to the Benedictine values of the College of St. Scholastica. Professionalism is a concept of nursing that is needed to have a successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nurses and physicians would get no input from the patient on their wishes for treatment and care (Giddens, 2016). Health Care has recently advanced by adopting the patient and family centered care model which was designed to "recognize the patient or designee as the source of control and full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respects for the patient's preferences, values, and needs" (Knuths, 2017). This model allows patients to have a voice on what happens to their bodies and allows them to actively participate in their care. It has also allowed the patient's family and loved ones to be involved. This involvement has given the patient a strong support system with their best interest in mind. Moving towards this concept has made nurses more aware of patient's cultural differences, spiritual differences, family preferences, and personal values. This system has lead to better overall care and patient satisfaction. Care has become about the patient and not the provider (Knuths, 2017). It is important to integrate the concept professionalism into your nursing career because it allows you to flourish personally as a nurse but more importantly allows the patient to receive the care they deserve. Throughout the course of one's nursing career there will be many slips and falls. Mistakes will happen but we as nurses are able to reflect and learn from them in a ... Professionalism: A Career In Physical Therapy Professionalism is not really something that is expected from a student but I really started thinking it about it once I came along to this question and I asked myself, "why not?". I believe professionalism can be applied anywhere in life no matter whether you are a student, a physical therapist, a brick layer, or a part–time worker. Being a professional does not mean being great at what you do but also having great attitude towards your job and being efficient and precise whether it is a small job or the most important project of your life. • 37. Nursing Professionalism: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis Professionalism in Nursing The nursing profession is a highly respectable yet challenging field. Nurses are faced each day with new obstacles and new technologies that they must keep up with. The registered nurse of modern times is seen as an upstanding position with great responsibility. One of the most essential, if not the most important to a registered nurse, is professionalism. Professionalism in nursing is essential in providing clients and other staff members optimal health in which the environment we work in. Nursing utilizes evidence–based practice or, in other words, practices that have proven over time to work. Nurses contribute to the medical field in a variety of ways, including professionalism. Nurses discuss evidence that contributes to solve problems, provide care that reflects positive outcomes for patients, doctors and other organizations, as well as come up with ideas that manifest into successful practices (RNAO, 2007). • 41. The Importance Of Professionalism And Professional Behavior According to me, Professionalism and professional behavior is very context specific. It requires us to behave appropriately at all times and in all situations. Professionalism requires us to make difficult judgments and requires us to challenge poor practices and unacceptable behaviour and attitudes. You need life experience to explain what professionalism means. Professionalism is not something that you accomplish occasionally; it needs a rooted presence in your life. As the intern, building a priority to support all patients that came in with total guidance and instruction became predominant. This leads to the other key to professionalism, humility. During my internship, constant quizzing ingrained that you constrain the need to answer every question. Giving a "best guess" will lead to negative repercussions. Correspondingly, observations of the physical therapists themselves refer innumerable times to other professionals; be it the patient's doctor, another therapist, or a dietitian. Seeing how various physical therapists operated also reinforced the belief of professional duty. The pride every therapist had in the profession, the mentoring that each provided, and the amount of work put towards every patient left my mind with a profound impression. Equally important, the consciousness of unspoiled care and compassion. Listening to other undergraduates and professors explain that you would have "problem patients"; this idea became entrenched in my head when starting. Contrarily, their concepts never materialized. Wanting to help the patients that had numerous struggles, or purely had countless debilitating injuries constituted as the goal. When looking at the concept of police professionalism in a manner such as to operationalize it we must evaluate the different independent variables and their relationship with the dependent variable in question. Police professionalism would be the dependent variable to be considered. The first independent variable that I would address when looking into this would be that of an officers job knowledge. The ability of an officer to be knowledgeable in the law as it pertains to enforcement is detrimental to professionalism. If an officer is not trust worthy he can not be trusted. Now that statement is obvious but in a deeper sense his ability to do his job is based upon the trust of the public he is appointed to serve. (4 points, about 150 words) I strongly agree with what Sarah said, being here as a student in American academic culture, requires all students to not only understand what professionalism is, but to fulfill it also. As a student, I'm expected to respect my fellow colleagues, learn from them, and exchange feedbacks. In addition, not being ashamed from accepting mistake, yet learn from criticism, and see them as an opportunity for new positive changes. • 126. What Is Professionalism In The Workplace Webster's describes professionalism as "the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person." I can see why people would say that about professionalism. However, I personally don't fully understand the true meaning of professionalism. That might be because professionalism wasn't an important part in my life. But now that I'm beginning to grow and learn more about my career and my future, professionalism is something that I'm going to have to work on in order to gain the skills to be respected in the business world. When professionalism is mentioned, everyone automatically thinks of an office business professional. In my prospective, that isn't always the case. To me, professionalism just means being ... Some of the attributes that describe the way I want to be perceived in a workplace would be specialized knowledge, competency, honesty and integrity, respect, accountability, self– regulation, and image. I have gained some of these skills since I started working at the firm, but obviously it's still a work in progress, since I've only been working in a professional environment for the past year. For example, one of the ways I'm perceived at work would be my image. My change in style has dramatically changed since I started the internship. In the past, you would most likely see me wearing jeans, a t–shirt, and some sneakers. But now that I'm surrounded with professionals, I've started wearing more business casual clothing items, such as slacks, blouses/blazers, and flats. I'm always trying to find a way in trying to improve the way I look since people almost always get a first impression from you based on your clothing attire. There has been times in the past, in the beginning of my internship, where I had to get tips from the other interns on what was appropriate and what wasn't appropriate to wear in the office. It's always good to get advice from others who already had experience and know what they're ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A necessity to professionalism is to be a professional at all times, especially in public eye. It needs to be earned though experience and example. I particularly like the tip "When you are with patients or staff, it is better to say too little than too much" (DeWit 2010). It is important to admit when one makes a mistake and not to cover it up. A professional is able to work independently without supervision because that is a true professional (Scott 2009). In summary, professionalism is an important way of life to ... Cultural sensitivity is defined in our Medical Surgical Book as, "knowing a politically correct language and not making statements that may antagonize another person's cultural beliefs, and cultural competence includes the skills and knowledge required to provide adequate nursing care". (Williams & Hopper, 2011). These two traits together liked talked about previously again, helps to begin to build trust. • 154. Practicing Student Professionalism Professionalism can be defined in many different ways and from different perspectives. Professionalism is about a lot more than just following policies and procedures. It is also about having essential behaviors such as right attitude, appearance, ethics, knowledge, competence, perseverance, dedication, self–improving and many more. Student professionalism is much more than simply acquiring the best training and skills; it's also about how a person behaves and acts in order to achieve his or her goals. However, professionalism is not just for people with higher degrees. It's present in everybody's daily life regardless of his or her level of education. It should also extend to an individual's personal life as well to some extent. Humans don't born knowing how to develop a professional attitude, but in order to be success in life we have to learn and practice good attitudes and behaviors that a professional person should have. Now at days the majority of our new generations suffer of lack of professionalism. Many students don't take seriously his or her role as a student or as an employee at some jobs. Good manners and values are really important in a person's life because that depends in how his or her future will be. If a student don't show up to class, comes late most of time, don't turn in homework on time and don't respect himself or herself is not likely to reach any of its goals and if he or she acts unprofessionally in something so simple as school.
