Throughout its history, music has permeated the significant events of American history. Its effect on American society and the way the American

The Importance Of Dance In My Life
Dance In My Life Dance, along with music, has always been a part of my life. As a child, my sister and I would 'choreograph' our own dance
routines pretending to be with the USO. We wanted to be like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds.
Together, we would make up 'song and dance' routines then perform them for our family. Really, we were just trying to please our daddy whom
we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to participate in formal dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel's Studio but
I was unable to do so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that same year I was allowed to also join drill team and pom
squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward teen with little coordination, but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the front of the
squad. Surprisingly, I became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also choreograph many of our performances. Dance became my
'happy place'. There, in front of all the crowds of people at the football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was embarrassed to
speak for fear of being made fun of. My self–image of being a scrawny, crooked toothed, flat–chested little curly mop–head didn't matter when I was
performing. I was so good at it, that I was able to show off those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a life of cowering in the
corner or in the shadows of my peers.

word expresses a feeling of happy energy, which reflects how positive the occurrence was for the child.
Dancing, with its often happy energy, can be magical. This magic can alter a relationship between two people, even if only for the duration of the
dance. In Saturday Night Fever, Tony Manero and his dancing partner, Stephanie Migano had a platonic relationship. This relationship changed into
something else on the dance floor. They bonded; they had a mesmerizing connection to each other. This is parallel to the situation in "My Papa's
Waltz." Readers do not know about the relationship between this father and son, but he recalls this moment for a reason. That waltz helped them bond.
The last stanza supports the positiveness of this dance as the boy explains that his father "then waltzed me off to bed still clinging to your shirt"
(Roethke 536). The fact that the child clings to his father suggests that he
