Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons
Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate's mind the notion that Larry is still alive.
In the play, we find only one son Chris appearing physically, whereas Larry is merely referred to because he is already dead by the time the play opens.
He says to Chris that he has done everything for Chris.
In fact, Joe Keller is mistakenly over concerned with his personal responsibility or his responsibility towards his society or country as whole.
In All My Sons the character of Joe Keller has been presented by Miller with social and psychological concerns.
Joe Keller's thinking was the outcome of social mischief.
He says to his son Chris, that he is sixty one years old and it is not sure when would he get another chance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe is the head of the Keller family, and the welfare of his family is his sole concern.
Another larger issue treated in All My Sons is related to the consideration of the relative importance of personal responsibility and social responsibility.
An individual may be responsible to himself and his family; but he should also feel responsible towards the society.
In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social
responsibility.
When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him, Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a
manufacture or industrialist by the name of Joe Keller.
Joe Keller belongs to the affluent class of society; and therefore he differs from the ordinary kind of human beings who constitute the majority in every
country.
As for outer conflict, we have a confrontation between Chris and his father over Chris's desire to marry Annie who was engaged to marry Chris's
brother,

Paganism In All Hallow's Day
Pastor Jamie Morgan believes Christians specifically, and for that matter everyone else, should not celebrate Halloween. She sees it as the Satan's
holiday which is sacrilegious for religious people to celebrate, calls it a "sacred, high holiday" (Morgan) for Wicca followers, and all around implies
that no one should bring themselves to "the darkness" (Morgan). These beliefs are what scare children, much more so than Halloween ever could.
Being threatened with the promise of eternal damnation in the firey pits of Hell is far more frightening than a witch's broom or a seven year old with
devil horns ever could be. Many overkill and ill–informed religious enthusiasts are traumatizing their children every year with the preaching and
teaching of seriously painful consequences for putting on a mask and getting candy from people that aren't from their local church. The argument that
"Halloween is Satan's holiday" (Morgan) is uninformed about what Halloween is derived from, All Hallow's Eve (Newland). All Hallow's Eve is the
celebration of spirits before All Saints Day, which was taken off most calendars because of the simplification of the Catholic calendar in 1956
(Newland). It was considered liturgy, and many celebrated both. In ancient days, the Britons people celebrated these days without a miss. All Hallow's
Eve was originally when they praised Samhain, the lord of death, to take away their dead, and deliver their sinful spirits to where they belong. All

All in the Family
All in the Family
In 1971, New York Times columnist Fred Ferretti wrote an article about a new television series called All in the Family. Ferretti asked, whether or not
if racism and bigotry were considered funny and he concluded that it was not and as a result believed that the show was lacking good taste. Apparently,
the television viewers of America disagreed. Running from 1971 to 1979, All In The Family wasn't the first television series to tackle major issues on
a major network, but what was innovative about the series, was that is that it hewed its situational comedy from topical issues, and it explored them
through characters we got to know and cared about every week. Simply put, All in the Family wasn't just a great situational comedy; it as was an
ongoing national conversation rooted in well–written, well–acted and multifaceted characters.
In 1969, a young comedy writer named Norman Lear was given approval by CBS to create an American version of the popular British sitcom Till
Death Do Us Part. Produced and developed by Lear, this concept of a sitcom about a blue–collar family would eventually become, All in the Family.
Premiering in January of 1971, the series focused on the lives of a working–class family from the New York City borough of Queens, The Bunkers.

All Saints Day in Guatemala
All Saints Day, which is celebrated in Guatemala, is a day of celebrating loved ones who have died. This day,"Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of
the Dead, originated in Mexico centuries ago."1 It is a day of joy and not of sorrow. This is the when people pray for help from the saints who have
passed on. They also pray that those who have died without becoming saints will become saints. Fancy decorations, food, and fun are all joined
together to help celebrate this day in Guatemala. The home is one of the places that is beautifully decorated. An alter is set up with pictures of their
loved ones, candles, flowers, bread, fruit, atole and aguardiente. Atole is a drink that is made of corn flour and water; while aguardiente is liquor
made from sugar cane. The people continue their rituals and before dawn they place flowers above the doors of their home to welcome the spirits of
their deceased loved ones.2 This adds to the beautiful decor of the home. Next, comes the decorations at the grave side. People clean the tomb stones,
paint them, and then decorate them with many colorful flowers. Flowers like lilies, chrysanthemums, and flor de muerto (a strong marigold) are used
to decorate.3 At the tops of the graves are placed wax–paper wreaths.4 The cemeteries on this day turn into a massive color display. After the wreaths
are placed, it is time to eat.5 The families have picnics there in the cemeteries by the graves of their loved ones. The fiambre salad is a traditional

What Is A Man For All Seasons
A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man's character and merit, are heightened to unseen levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by
Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between
Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased, historical accuracy, movie's message, actors in
relation to the film, and if the movie is a by–product of its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was complicated.
However, these questions or topics bring out the what is most impactful in a film; my opinion of course.

Going in one would need some background knowledge to really make sense of it all. In regards to balance between Henry VIII and Thomas More,
I strongly believe it was kept unbiased and told from a historical standpoint. In that aspect, history does support their conclusion. The movie may
have left or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate. From the way, they captured how King Henry VIII would use his
chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy with the character of history
was on point as well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and need to rise in politics, King Henry's charm, beauty, and temper, and Thomas More's
morality and need to stay true to one's self. There's much more going on but these can be seen as the most accurate and

All My Sons
To what extent is Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons' a critique of the American Dream
Arthur Miller was an American playwright and was a prominent figure in America until his recent death in 2005. It was at this time of his death that
Miller was considered one of the greatest American playwrights.
In 1947, after his disastrous play – 'The man who had all the luck', 'All My Sons' was published, which brought Miller recognition and was the start of
his successful career. 'All My Sons' is set after World War 2 and touches on The Great Depression, which was a decade of 'dramatic and worldwide
economic downturn beginning in some countries as early as 1928'. Many Americans were left in high poverty, jobless and homeless due to shops,

Keller argues that what he did during the war was merely good business practise. Keller also refers to himself as an 'uneducated man', which implies
that he has achieved the financial part of the American Dream without the aid of books; however, it is his business that leads o his downfall. Miller
criticises a "capitalist system that encourages individuals to value their business sense over their moral sense". This means that Miller disagrees with
people who crave profit and success at the expense of happiness for yourself and others.
Keller earns respect from his neighbours, even though they all know the truth about his past, as at one point he is defined as "a man among men". This
suggests that men in the neighbourhood aspire to achieve what Keller has achieved – a great business and successful family life.
Realities dawn through the dramatic device of dialogue from neighbours which reveal Keller's past to us, for example when Sue says to Ann;
"There's not a person on the block who doesn't know the truth". This shows that people are aware of what Keller did and the fact that he is guilty, yet
people still admire him as it does appear that he has achieved the American Dream.
However, when Chris denies responsibility of the business during a conversation with Keller; "The business! The business doesn't inspire me", this

Love Conquers All In The Canterbury Tales
The Medieval period of The Canterbury Tales is held on April 11, 1387. The writing style of tales are literary skilled. "There is clear evidence in them
that Chaucer was familiar with a considerable number of the great book of his time, and it is fairly well established that his writings show a steady
increase in his literary skill" (Chaucer xxxvii). Chaucer is a writer of surprise. His stories not only come from plots of other writers but also from his
lifetime. "There is of course no explaining where or how Chaucer acquired his ability as a great storyteller. However, the fact that he was a man of
affairs as well as a man of books, a civil servant who dealt frequently with people from all walks of life, seem to have had great... Show more content on

each other. Even though they see Jesus in a different way they have learned to accept their differences and not hate on each other. Back in Chaucer's
time they did not do that. The cruelty between them started chaos.
The theme for this tale is Love Conquers All (Sparknotes). The Prioress is a Nun who must accept the 4 vows. But the readers see her as someone
who is opposite and does not accept them. Poverty is a vow in which a Nun must hold no worthy possessions. But the Prioress happens to own a
beautiful brooch in which the readers believe she is not fully dedicated to the church. Another vow that the Prioress does not exceed in is the
faithfulness of chastity. Nuns are servants to the church and they are suppose to show promiscuity. Since Chaucer does not mention the third vow,
obedience, it shows that the Prioress does not follow this one either since she is not apart of the first two "The Prioress of The Canterbury Tales."

Advantages Of All Inclusive Resort
What causes this strategy for country's economy?
Cultural economic socД±al environmental problems
For travelers, the easiest and noticeable criticism of all–inclusive resorts is that spending almost whole holiday in the resort, therefore, almost no one
gets much real culture connection with the natives.
However, the all–inclusive resorts do no really support the economy of the local suppliers so and if we consider why we have tourism business, it
conflicts with the terms because, tourism is meant to support the country.
In the Antalya, some local hotel workers feel the jobs provided for the local workers by all–inclusive hotels are better than the other offers. However,
this is usually far from the reality in the majority of cases. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting thousands of people at the same place is not ethical for nature because everything have capacity so exceeding natural capacity is not ethical for
us. It means that all–inclusive resorts incent people to stay same places at the same time so they defraud other people to exceeding natural capacity.
Although they often host a lot of visitors than their psychical capacity, from a per capita perspective it is not environmentally friendly to manage the
impact of tourists in one place using appropriate systems and technology than it is if visitors are scatter throughout a destination in little pockets of
temporary luxury living.
Disadvantages of All Inclusive Vacations? Feeling Trapped
Some tourists may feel like they cannot leave the resort because they have already paid for the services, such as food&beverage and entertainment. In
this case, they will be missing out on trying the authentic cuisine or to absorb the traditional culture. If the package doesn't include tours of the local

All My Sons Essay
Life is full of many hard decisions that people have to take, often on the spur of the moment. Some we get right others turn horribly wrong. Joe
Keller, the tragic hero of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons, was no different. His whole life was dedicated to his family and their well being but all his
plans were undone by one fatally flawed decision.
The audience can relate to Joe and feel sympathy for him because he was a good man who did many great things for his family and in the end paid the
ultimate price. Towards the end of the play, Joe's son Chris anguishes over the fatally flawed decision made by his father, thus eliciting the sympathy of
the audience. However, this is not enough to detract from the audience relating to Joe as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe doesn't have many bad qualities in him the only times the audience do see such qualities is when he speaks ill of Steve to others like when he
says, "I owe him a good kick in the teeth"(Act 2, p47). However, the audience knows he does not really mean these things but only says them to
cover up his fatal mistake. So we forgive Joe his mistake because as Plutarch, the Delphic priest, said almost 2000 years ago, "to make no mistakes is
not in the power of man " and also because Joe tries to rectify his mistake by offering to give Steve a good job when he gets out of prison and offering
to help Steve's children.
Joe has spent his life making many decisions most of which appear to have been good decisions resulting in his family enjoying a comfortable life.
The audience admires him for this. Unfortunately, late one night Joe made a hurried decision, which he believed he could get away with. The
reasons for his decision comes to light near the end of the play, in Act 2, when he tells Chris why he made that decision, "I'm a business man, a man
is in business; a hundred and twenty cracked, you're out of business, you got a process, the process don't work you're out of business; you don't know
how to operate, your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contract what the hell's it to them? You lay forty years into a business and

All My Sons By Arthur Miller
All My Sons is a play by Arthur Miller which is set after the second world war but brings in information concerning things that took place during the
war. It is about a successful businessman, Joe Keller, who during the war, in the name of fulfilling his so–called familial obligations, fails to recognise
the importance of society when making decisions as he is blinded by lust for money (Ternate, 2016) and his strong desire to save his business for his
son to take over. This review aims to describe and give personal responses to the book. Arthur Miller'sAll My Sons, 'explores a man's possible
obsession with family and how he uses it to justify his wrongdoings'.
Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. He was born on the 17th of October 1915 in Harlem,
New York to an immigrant family of Polish and Jewish descent. His affluent family lost everything in the Wall Street Crash of 1929, so he worked
odd jobs and eventually attended the University of Michigan. All My Sons was a success when it was published in 1947, running for almost a full
year on Broadway and earning the playwright his first Tony Award for Best Author. He married three times and had four children. Miller died on
February 10, 2005 surrounded by family and friends. He died of heart failure, after battling cancer and pneumonia, at his home in Roxbury,
Connecticut. He was 89 years old. (Biography.com, 2017).

All My Sons Character Analysis
In the play All My Sons, author Arthur Miller successfully shows the challenges of emotional journeys to the audience through the character
development of businessman, Joe Keller. Miller uses Keller as a representation of the Americans who suffered from the widespread poverty, despair,
and unemployment following the Great Depression. Joe Keller lies and cheats to achieve ultimate success for himself and his family, yet in doing so
destroys many relationships around him, particularly with his two sons; Chris and Larry; who died during the Second World War. It is through the
plays slow build and sudden climax, that Miller is able to effectively portray his constant inner fight with himself in coming to the realisation that his
false perception of himself affects those close to him, and ultimately drawing to a dramatic conclusion and restoration of order.
Throughout the play, the character development of Joe Keller and his materialistic values, is used by Miller to convey to the audience, the challenges
of emotional journeys. At the beginning of the play, Keller is described by through stage directions to provide insight into Keller's character and
upbringing. "A business man ... with the imprint of a machine–shop worker and boss still upon him" implies that he has worked his way up from
humble beginnings and has succeeded based on merits. Living through the Great Depression, Joe struggled with a personal poverty and possesses a
fear of reverse in events, thus having economic

In the novel, All the Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren, the characters live out the consequences of decisions made in their pasts. Each character
deals with the past in a different way. It costs some relationships. It costs some their careers. It even costs some their lives. I believe thatCass Mastern

The story provided by Cass Mastern gives and an interesting comparison to the current tale of Jack Burden and Willie Stark. Cass is tormented, as Jack

adultery with his friend’s wife. After this, the spider did not let him go. He could not stop tormenting himself. Cass could not correct what
he had been done and that destroyed him.
Willie Stark is also a character that brushes against the spider’s web. His experiences are different than those of Jack, Adam and Cass.
Only at the end of the novel, after the closing stages of everyone else, dose Willies actions come back to bite him. Up until his death, Willie got
away with this analogy, “Goodness…You got to make it Doc…and you got to make it out of
badness…because there isn’t anything else to make it out of';(257). With this analogy said, everything he does is justified as
long as the end product is good. Inevitably, Willies actions had to come to a crashing end. The spider got a hold of him and brought him to his death.
Adam Stanton, son of ex–governor Stanton, also found himself caught in the web. At one point in the novel, Adam felt as if a ton of bricks had fallen

Theme Of All My Sons By Joe Keller
There is nothing ruthless about Joe, no hint of the robber baron in his make up , his ambitions are small a comfortable home for his family, a
successful business to pass on to his sons, but he is not completely fastidious in achieving his goals.
Joe Keller is the most important character in the play, All My Sons.
Miller who wrote All My Sons with human understanding but moral sinew as well as dramaturgy summarised his theme, John Gossner says as, "the
responsibility of man to society or the responsibility to the world and outside his home as well as in his own home".
Joe Keller is a social, amiable man with a strong sense of humour.

Examples Of Goodness In All The King's Men
Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is
not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act on it. Pablo Casals
Goodness is usually defined as a quality of being kind, honorable or virtuous. Though it can be subjective, there is a major question that goes along
with ideas of good and bad; what is goodness? Throughout the book, All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, this concept of good versus bad
intentions and morals can be seen in many of the characters. Through Willie Stark, Adam Stanton, and Jack Burden, Warren reveals how goodness is an
abstract concept, and how goodness does not mean the same thing to everyone.

Through the characters, Warren reveals a theme of goodness, and what goodness is. Whether they believe that they are doing good, or simply don't
care about whether their actions are right or not, it is always under the surface of each major moment in the book. Both Adam and Willie remained, in
their own eyes, morally good, though their actions may not have reflected this. Jack went through a change of ethics, revealing the meaning of
goodness in the book. The core of what makes someone a good person is not only the actions that they take, but is also the intention behind the action.
Many times throughout the book characters make decisions that they believe to be right, even if the results don't turn out to benefit anyone else. These
decisions show Warren's beliefs on goodness, that it is ultimately subjective to each character or person. Actions can be made with good intentions and
still appear to be bad, and actions can also be made with intentions that are only good in the minds of those making the

All my Sons – Critical Essay
'All my sons' written by Arthur Miller is a dramatic play which shows actions and consequences and morality and studies the theme of idealism verses
realism, social responsibility and the American dream. This play takes place after World War II, in the year 1947. The play shows conflict between a

one day, would take over the business from him although Chris doesn't particularly want to. We first see a hint of Joe Keller's personality in the first
act when he refuses to read the news section in the newspaper. We presume he's doing this to avoid all the bad news about the secret that he is keeping

One occurring theme throughout the play would be the 'American Dream' being when one goes from poor to rich by working hard for it or the
'Distorted American Dream' by doing anything, primarily bad to become rich and great. We see this mainly in Joe Keller'scharacter, who considers
himself to be a family man and does what is best for his family. Keller sacrifices other parts of the American Dream for simple economic success. He
has given up part of his basic human decency to have a wealthy and a successful family life. We find out how he did this later on in the play and why

Examples Of Selfishness In All My Sons
People Are Selfish It is said that 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. The author of All My Sons, Arthur Miller, reveals
that most people really do not care about others. In the play All My Sons, there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of
marriage, death, and lying. The character, Joe Keller, represents an image of how most people do not care about others because he is very selfish.
Joe's selfishness are shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is
important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish.
First, I will explain how Joe acts selfish by blaming others. First, Miller shows how Joe acts selfish through how he blames others. In the contents of
the play, Joe tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in jail because Joe
blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty–one innocent pilots. Miller is
insisting that, Joe was indeed responsible for the manufacture, and led Steve to take the repercussions of this action, when Joe states, ". . . the guy
[Joe] who sold cracked cylinder heads to the Army Air Force; the guy who made twenty–one P–40's crash in Australia.". (Miller, 30) Joe then

All My Sons Research Paper
On September 1, 1939 Hitler invaded Poland which caused one of the worst wars ever known to man. This war is known as World War Two. Many
men who were born in 1923 in the Soviet Union, lost their lives during the battle. Since most of the men left to fight, the women stayed behind and
took care of the factories and their homes. In a play called All My Sons by Arthur Miller, he wrote about the struggles of a family who was greatly
affected by the war.
One key member of the Keller family was Joe Keller. Joe and his business partner Steve Deever owned a factory that sold cylinder heads to the
military during the war. Unfortunately, not all of these cylinders were flawless, and several faulty ones were sold to the military. As a result of the
flawed cylinders, Twenty One Pilots lost their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Annie's brother George comes to the Keller's house he brings trouble. George has always believed that Mr. Keller was aware of the cracked
cylinder heads and that he was the one who told Mr. Deever to fix them up and ship them off. When George was asking Mr. and Mrs. Keller how
they have been, Mrs. Keller made a mistake. Mrs. Keller accidentally said, "He hasn't been laid up in fifteen years..." (Miller 55). Since, the war
just ended a couple of years ago, that would mean Mr. Keller was never sick. George wishes he could reopen the case and convict Mr. Keller of his
wrong doing, but he can not prove the phone call that happen between Mr. Keller and Mr. Deever. Chris was so upset by the news, he got in his
car and drove off. At the end of the play Chris was going to take Mr. Keller to jail, but before he had the chance to something horrifying happened.
As Chris waited for Mr. Keller to get his jacket from the house, they heard a noise. Mr. Keller could no longer live with the guilt of killing Twenty
One Pilots and having the death of his son on his hands. He committed suicide, on a warm Sunday in

All My Sons Character Analysis
Throughout the tragedy All My Sons, Kate Keller holds tightly to the idea of her son Larry being alive; however, when his death is revealed to her,
she is forced to face the truth and a katharsis is created. Unlike the other two tragedies, there is pity but not a true purging of that feeling. Kate
(Mother) has not seen her son in three years, yet she does not accept that he is gone. She plants an apple tree in his memory, and the apples still cling
to in the summer– like her clinging to the existence of Larry. "But why did that happen the very night she came back?... Look at it; look... Believe
with me Joe. I can't stand all alone," Kate pleads (Miller 22). Kate does not want to believe her son is dead, which invokes pity on the reader.
However, Kate does not want to let go of him because if he was dead, it could possibly be her husband's, Joe's, doing. In the end of the play, the
reader learns of Steven, Joe's partner, being wrongfully accused of causing the death of twenty pilots because of cracked airplane cylinders. Joe,
who truly committed the crime, had an alibi that he was sick so he was not able to go and fix the cylinders that killed the pilots. Kate knows Joe
did the crime, "He hasn't been laid up in fifteen years..." she expresses, going against Joe's alibi (Miller 65). Joe corrects Kate however, and this
moment hints at the fact the Kate is aware of Joe's actions. Joe never confesses his mistake and continues with his life. Holding on to Larry is like

A Comparison Of The American Dream And All My Sons
Alrighty, I am going to kind of mash together question one and two. I wanted to discuss the American Dream and All My Sons, but I also think that
topic really, nicely goes into the relevance it has today.
The American Dream can be worded and defined in different ways. But as stated in Question 1, "The American Dream can be defined as the idea that
in the US anyone can become successful through hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit." I think that is a definition that everyone can agree on, more
or less. The Cambridge Dictionary also defines the American Dream, "the belief that everyone in the US has the chance to be successful and happy if
they work hard." Also as stated in Question 1, All My Sons is often described as a negative critique of the American Dream.
I'm sure we can all immediately recognize and understand what Joe Keller did is wrong and goes against what you would think the American
Dream is. He kept information from authorities about the cylinders so he could get out of jail. Deever was kept in jail because of Keller's lies. Not
only that, but 21 pilots died too. There is a huge moral and ethical responsibility to tell the truth and do the right thing. However, Keller lied and kept
information so that he could make money and get out of jail..again, leaving Deever to sit in prison. Keller never thought about Deever, only himself
and his company. During the time of the incident (1947) stress was high and they had to make quick decisions. All of the companies

Central Conflict In All The King's Men
The central conflict of All the King's Men as I understood deals with corruption. Willie Stark, the protagonist of the play, actually won the election
to become governor, but the citizens of the state were not pleased by his leadership and lack of duties as a politician. There was a scene in the play
in which Willie gets drunk and he is portrayed as a bad person. People did not like him because he was a political agitator that uses corruption to
gain power. For example, he uses corruption against his political opponents by speaking the truth. He was using blackmail and he would use
intimidation against others. There was a scene in which Willie makes a move to impeach Tom so that he is able to take away his dominance and
says that he will build the largest hospital in the United States. He believes that society is inherently corrupt and that the only way to rise to the top
and gain power is through evil. I understood that people saw him as someone that did not have knowledge about politics or did not have what what it
takes to be a governor and they believed that he would not be successful. The characters demonstrated virtuosity by demonstrating their skills as actors
as they projected their voice and body movements in front of the audience. All the characters had clarity in their speech and elegance of movement....

this album. Solo rapper, Tupac Amaru Shakur, born June 16, 1971, faced many brutally physical, mental and social altercations from being the son of
a black panther to being an upcoming rap mogul. Before physically listening to the album one glances at the cover and title there could be a

woman still sued and Tupac was imprisoned because of this scandal. Due to this to case he wrote track number three on the album entitled
"Skandalouz". The beginning of this track was brought in by a roll on a hi hat that crescendos to a hard bass with a soft piano playing an octave

All My Sons By Arthur Miller
Dramatic tension is a figurative device an author would use to add tension to conflict between characters. In Arthur Miller's play, All My Sons,
dramatic tension is created by using theoretical devices and language, utilizing conflicting character personalities, dramatic irony, and character
development, to exhibit dramatic tension in order to keep the audience engaged in the play. ACT 1 At the beginning of Act One, when Keller gives the
audience first impressions of characters, the audience begins to foreshadow conflicts between the characters based on each individual character's
personality, this is one of the first examples of foreshadowing conflict for the audience. "KELLER is nearing sixty. A heavy man of stolid mind and
build, a business man these many years, but with the imprint of the machine–shop working and boss still upon him. When he reads, when he speaks,
when he listens, it is with the terrible concentration of the uneducated man from whom there is still wonder in many commonly known things, a man
whose judgements must be dredged out of experience and a peasant–like common sense. A man among men." (6). When Miller describes Joe Keller in
the beginning of the play, he describes him from the perspective of somebody who has a well thought out first impression of him, giving the audience
an impression of him. When Miller describes Keller as "A man among men." (6), the audience can assume he is indifferent to others, Miller still

The conflict in the play "All My Sons" in embodied by two different sets of values. The older generation represented by Joe and Kate strongly believed
in family values and Pursue of the American dream at any cost. In contradiction, Joe and Anne express the younger generation's ethics and ideals
clearly shown in the thoughts of idealism that money is not the most important thing in life. Even though the younger generation's ideals are sometimes

never do something that he believes to be wrong. There is no point of Chris trying to change his mind because the passion he speaks in about these
ideals will never die.
Chris and Anne did not have their own family yet, which was an excuse for the older generation to contradict them although they knew the difference
between right and wrong. In this play the word "father" to Chris means righteousness and integrity. If one cannot look beyond one's personal circle
they are condemned to an ending that is a tragic moment of realization that may bring an ending similar to Joe's. Another morality issue, which
Chris has to deal with in regards to his father in taking responsibility. It is possible that Chris would have shown signs of forgiveness if Joe were to
take responsibility for his actions. Instead of doing so once again he was hiding behind doing good only for the benefits of his inner circle. "There's
nothing he could do that I wouldn't forgive. Because he's my son. Because I'm his father and he's my son." In these words Keller expresses his own

Who Is Mary Orr's All About Eve?
All About Eve is based on Mary Orr's story "The Wisdom of Eve" in the International Cosmopolitan Magazine that was based on real life events. After
Joseph L. Mankiewicz read the story, he was immediately enamored by the concept because he found a his way of "settling a lot of scores [with the
theatre]" (Crowther). Without delay, he bought the rights to the movie and began casting. After a long and hard battle for casting Margo Channing,
Mankiewicz selected Bette Davis – a replacement for his first choice – because she was the only available actress that could play the part well. Bette
Davis was perfect for the role because like Margo her onscreen character, Bette Davis was a 40 year old actress, who was insecure about passing her
prime (twenties) in filmography. It was a common perception that women over forty could not survive in the film industry, and Bette Davis felt the
same way especially because her popularity was dwindling. The parallel between Margo and Bette allowed Bette Davis to successfully become
Margo's persona through method acting. In fact, according to the Behind the Scenes Documentary, at times the other cast and crew members could
differentiate if Margo Channing or Bette Davis was acting on camera. Typically, when Bette Davis received a copy of a script, she would mark them
up with hundreds of revisions, but she left the script of All About Eve as is.
However one major correction was made. As it turns out, the movie was originally titled Best

A Man For All Seasons By Robert Bolt
The book "A Man for All Seasons," by Robert Bolt is a play written to teach us a few important lessons about life. He wrote A Man for All Seasons in
1960, and the play was mounted on the London stage that same year and in New York in 1961. The themes that Bolt uses in writing this play are moral
values, self, friendship, and corruption. Moral values are when a character respects his own opinion about something. Self and friendship are the
relationships built between characters and how that affects the play. Overall, the most important theme of this play is corruption. Corruption is
dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. Throughout the play, Bolt incorporates corruption in many ways and
through many characters. Some characters that Bolt expresses corruption in is Richard Rich, Matthew, and William Roper. The main character in the
play is Thomas More, an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and for a short period of time, Lord Chancellor of England.
Thomas More is viewed as saint like by the people that new him. More is given the responsibility to decide whether or not King Henry VIII and his
wife Catherine could get a divorce. King Henry was allowed to get married to Catherine, even though she was his brother's wife, because the judge

"dirt" on him (Warren 74). In addition, it is ironic that despite being a historian, Jack believes in the "Great Twitch," which is that life must be
viewed in a "mystic vision," as life is unpredictable (Warren 473). This allows man to "feel clean and free," as their actions have no effect (Warren

Love And Relationships: Is It True That Love Conquers All?
Love and Relationships
Is it true that love conquers all?
The pages of history are filled with accounts of love's conquests. From the Northern to the Southern hemisphere, from the sun's rising in the East to its
setting in the West, love has travelled far and wide and has yet to quench its thirst. There have been periods in the past wherelove's power and influence
has gone unrivalled by any other force, natural or otherwise. I remember sailing to a now submerged continent that love had conquered absolutely and
where it had set up a dictatorship. The people were subjected to the ever–changing whims of love; they would be ordered to watch sunrises and sunsets
and instead of sleeping during the night they would be made to stare longingly into the eyes of their partner. At other times, they were ordered to go
without food and instead made to serenade parters from below their windows, come rain or shine. Others were made to faint at the sight of their
loved ones and often injured themselves upon impact with the ground or the edge of a table or chair. Thanks to love's excesses people were sleep
deprived, riddled in bruises, constantly catching colds and flu as well as suffering from diseases associated with malnourishment. So in summary, yes

Ali All That Heaven Allows Analysis
Rainer Werner Fassbinder updates Douglas Sirk's 1955 All That Heaven Allows and gives it an overt and somewhat unforgiving political twist in his
1974 film, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. A director takes a great artistic risk when admittedly endeavoring to remake an already genre–acclaimed classic; but
rather than being derivative, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul is a fresh commentary on the xenophobic zeitgeist of post–Nazi Germany. Both films center on the
lonely lives of widows who meet and fall in love with a younger man, only to have this love deemed forbidden by social prejudices. Though updated,
the film is still replete with similarities to its predecessor, and this is what distinguishes it as a homage to Fassbinder's icon, Sirk, after all. A close
examination of the original will clarify the film's basic tenets and make the inspirations on which Fassbinder drew more visible. All That Heaven Allows
is a melodrama, taking place in the 1950s. It chronicles a chapter in the life of Cary Scott, an upper–class widow in the autumn of her life, whose life
is turned upside–down when she falls in love with her much younger gardener, Ron. Ron is somewhat of a dissident to the society which Cary is so
immersed in–he reads Thoreau, takes more pride in his greenhouse than his actual house, and can probably name more species of trees than residents of
the town. Rather than a disconnect, Cary and Ron experience a mutual fascination with each other–much to the dismay of Cary's high–brow

Compare And Contrast All In The Family
1.)How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar?
"All in the Family" differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be
able to said in a script for a modern–day television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non–American race or people in general
would be seen as non–politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a
vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and "roasting marshmallows over it." This kind of
comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today's television shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a
decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show. While "All in the Family" greatly differs from modern American television shows,
it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or
dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked
about others, and even the disrespect to his son–in–law and mocking of his wife, was common. This slang was honest and normal to the Bunkers,

Theme Of Selfishness In All My Sons
People Are Selfish According to The Washington Post, 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. ("Americans are patriotic,
honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The Washington Post") Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict
centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do
not care about others, by showing that they are indeed selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller.
Joe's selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is
important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First,
Miller illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe tends to blame Steve, his previous business
partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the
defective plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty–one innocent pilots. Miller shows that Joe was indeed responsible for the
manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, ". . .

All The King 's Men
Oxford Dictionaries defines the word responsibility as "The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone"
(1). From a young age, every person must accept responsibility for decisions that he or she makes. As situations arise that must be dealt with, people
have a duty to deal with those situations. In many ways, the act of living itself is an act of ultimate responsibility. In Robert Penn Warren's classic novel,
All the King's Men, the central characters of the novel all have to deal with the consequences of their actions, although many of the characters try to
avoid this solemn duty of life. Through analyzing the actions and inactions of the central characters, many important lessons on responsibility can be
derived from the novel.
Jack Burden, the narrator of the novel, ultimately learns to accept responsibility by realizing the inevitability of making decisions. As a historian, Jack
frequently and desperately clings to the past throughout the novel. Often, he dangerously substitutes the past of others for his own present, believing
that he can evade change by dwelling in the stagnant world of the past and never proactively making his own choices. However, after the death of
Judge Irwin, Willie Stark, and Adam Stanton, Jack realizes that his insistence to live in the past– his indecision in the present– has major consequences
in his own life and in the lives of those he cared for. Jack ultimately discovers that change– the very

Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons

  • 1. Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate's mind the notion that Larry is still alive. In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social responsibility. When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him, Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a manufacture or industrialist by the name of Joe Keller. Joe Keller belongs to the affluent class of society; and therefore he differs from the ordinary kind of human beings who constitute the majority in every country.

  • 3. Paganism In All Hallow's Day Pastor Jamie Morgan believes Christians specifically, and for that matter everyone else, should not celebrate Halloween. She sees it as the Satan's holiday which is sacrilegious for religious people to celebrate, calls it a "sacred, high holiday" (Morgan) for Wicca followers, and all around implies that no one should bring themselves to "the darkness" (Morgan). These beliefs are what scare children, much more so than Halloween ever could. Being threatened with the promise of eternal damnation in the firey pits of Hell is far more frightening than a witch's broom or a seven year old with devil horns ever could be. Many overkill and ill–informed religious enthusiasts are traumatizing their children every year with the preaching and teaching of seriously painful consequences for putting on a mask and getting candy from people that aren't from their local church. The argument that "Halloween is Satan's holiday" (Morgan) is uninformed about what Halloween is derived from, All Hallow's Eve (Newland). All Hallow's Eve is the celebration of spirits before All Saints Day, which was taken off most calendars because of the simplification of the Catholic calendar in 1956 (Newland). It was considered liturgy, and many celebrated both. In ancient days, the Britons people celebrated these days without a miss. All Hallow's Eve was originally when they praised Samhain, the lord of death, to take away their dead, and deliver their sinful spirits to where they belong. All Saints Day was ... • 4. All in the Family All in the Family In 1971, New York Times columnist Fred Ferretti wrote an article about a new television series called All in the Family. Ferretti asked, whether or not if racism and bigotry were considered funny and he concluded that it was not and as a result believed that the show was lacking good taste. Apparently, the television viewers of America disagreed. Running from 1971 to 1979, All In The Family wasn't the first television series to tackle major issues on a major network, but what was innovative about the series, was that is that it hewed its situational comedy from topical issues, and it explored them through characters we got to know and cared about every week. Simply put, All in the Family wasn't just a great situational comedy; it as was an ongoing national conversation rooted in well–written, well–acted and multifaceted characters. In 1969, a young comedy writer named Norman Lear was given approval by CBS to create an American version of the popular British sitcom Till Death Do Us Part. Produced and developed by Lear, this concept of a sitcom about a blue–collar family would eventually become, All in the Family. Premiering in January of 1971, the series focused on the lives of a working–class family from the New York City borough of Queens, The Bunkers. Archie and his "dingbat" wife, Edith as well as their daughter and "little goil" Gloria and her liberal husband Mike "Meathead" Stivic. Although, the storylines of each episode were typically full of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. All Saints Day in Guatemala All Saints Day, which is celebrated in Guatemala, is a day of celebrating loved ones who have died. This day,"Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, originated in Mexico centuries ago."1 It is a day of joy and not of sorrow. This is the when people pray for help from the saints who have passed on. They also pray that those who have died without becoming saints will become saints. Fancy decorations, food, and fun are all joined together to help celebrate this day in Guatemala. The home is one of the places that is beautifully decorated. An alter is set up with pictures of their loved ones, candles, flowers, bread, fruit, atole and aguardiente. Atole is a drink that is made of corn flour and water; while aguardiente is liquor made from sugar cane. The people continue their rituals and before dawn they place flowers above the doors of their home to welcome the spirits of their deceased loved ones.2 This adds to the beautiful decor of the home. Next, comes the decorations at the grave side. People clean the tomb stones, paint them, and then decorate them with many colorful flowers. Flowers like lilies, chrysanthemums, and flor de muerto (a strong marigold) are used to decorate.3 At the tops of the graves are placed wax–paper wreaths.4 The cemeteries on this day turn into a massive color display. After the wreaths are placed, it is time to eat.5 The families have picnics there in the cemeteries by the graves of their loved ones. The fiambre salad is a traditional ... • 6. What Is A Man For All Seasons A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man's character and merit, are heightened to unseen levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased, historical accuracy, movie's message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by–product of its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was complicated. However, these questions or topics bring out the what is most impactful in a film; my opinion of course. The films, actors and actress play a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going in one would need some background knowledge to really make sense of it all. In regards to balance between Henry VIII and Thomas More, I strongly believe it was kept unbiased and told from a historical standpoint. In that aspect, history does support their conclusion. The movie may have left or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate. From the way, they captured how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy with the character of history was on point as well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and need to rise in politics, King Henry's charm, beauty, and temper, and Thomas More's morality and need to stay true to one's self. • 7. All My Sons To what extent is Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons' a critique of the American Dream Arthur Miller was an American playwright and was a prominent figure in America until his recent death in 2005. It was at this time of his death that Miller was considered one of the greatest American playwrights. In 1947, after his disastrous play – 'The man who had all the luck', 'All My Sons' was published, which brought Miller recognition and was the start of his successful career. 'All My Sons' is set after World War 2 and touches on The Great Depression, which was a decade of 'dramatic and worldwide economic downturn beginning in some countries as early as 1928'. Many Americans were left in high poverty, jobless and homeless due to shops, factories and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keller argues that what he did during the war was merely good business practise. Keller also refers to himself as an 'uneducated man', which implies that he has achieved the financial part of the American Dream without the aid of books; however, it is his business that leads o his downfall. Miller criticises a "capitalist system that encourages individuals to value their business sense over their moral sense". This means that Miller disagrees with people who crave profit and success at the expense of happiness for yourself and others. Keller earns respect from his neighbours, even though they all know the truth about his past, as at one point he is defined as "a man among men". This suggests that men in the neighbourhood aspire to achieve what Keller has achieved – a great business and successful family life. Realities dawn through the dramatic device of dialogue from neighbours which reveal Keller's past to us, for example when Sue says to Ann; "There's not a person on the block who doesn't know the truth". This shows that people are aware of what Keller did and the fact that he is guilty, yet people still admire him as it does appear that he has achieved the American Dream. However, when Chris denies responsibility of the business during a conversation with Keller; "The business! The business doesn't inspire me", this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Love Conquers All In The Canterbury Tales The Medieval period of The Canterbury Tales is held on April 11, 1387. The writing style of tales are literary skilled. "There is clear evidence in them that Chaucer was familiar with a considerable number of the great book of his time, and it is fairly well established that his writings show a steady increase in his literary skill" (Chaucer xxxvii). Chaucer is a writer of surprise. His stories not only come from plots of other writers but also from his lifetime. "There is of course no explaining where or how Chaucer acquired his ability as a great storyteller. However, the fact that he was a man of affairs as well as a man of books, a civil servant who dealt frequently with people from all walks of life, seem to have had great... In today's historical background majority of Christians and Jews do not hate each other. Even though they see Jesus in a different way they have learned to accept their differences and not hate on each other. Back in Chaucer's time they did not do that. The cruelty between them started chaos. The theme for this tale is Love Conquers All (Sparknotes). The Prioress is a Nun who must accept the 4 vows. But the readers see her as someone who is opposite and does not accept them. Poverty is a vow in which a Nun must hold no worthy possessions. But the Prioress happens to own a beautiful brooch in which the readers believe she is not fully dedicated to the church. Another vow that the Prioress does not exceed in is the faithfulness of chastity. Nuns are servants to the church and they are suppose to show promiscuity. Since Chaucer does not mention the third vow, obedience, it shows that the Prioress does not follow this one either since she is not apart of the first two "The Prioress of The Canterbury Tales." 123HelpMe.com. 18 Oct 2009 http://www.123HelpMe.com/view.asp?id=15607. Cultural economic socД±al environmental problems For travelers, the easiest and noticeable criticism of all–inclusive resorts is that spending almost whole holiday in the resort, therefore, almost no one gets much real culture connection with the natives. However, the all–inclusive resorts do no really support the economy of the local suppliers so and if we consider why we have tourism business, it conflicts with the terms because, tourism is meant to support the country. • 10. All My Sons Essay Life is full of many hard decisions that people have to take, often on the spur of the moment. Some we get right others turn horribly wrong. Joe Keller, the tragic hero of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons, was no different. His whole life was dedicated to his family and their well being but all his plans were undone by one fatally flawed decision. The audience can relate to Joe and feel sympathy for him because he was a good man who did many great things for his family and in the end paid the ultimate price. Joe doesn't have many bad qualities in him the only times the audience do see such qualities is when he speaks ill of Steve to others like when he says, "I owe him a good kick in the teeth"(Act 2, p47). However, the audience knows he does not really mean these things but only says them to cover up his fatal mistake. So we forgive Joe his mistake because as Plutarch, the Delphic priest, said almost 2000 years ago, "to make no mistakes is not in the power of man " and also because Joe tries to rectify his mistake by offering to give Steve a good job when he gets out of prison and offering to help Steve's children. Joe has spent his life making many decisions most of which appear to have been good decisions resulting in his family enjoying a comfortable life. The audience admires him for this. Unfortunately, late one night Joe made a hurried decision, which he believed he could get away with. The reasons for his decision comes to light near the end of the play, in Act 2, when he tells Chris why he made that decision, "I'm a business man, a man is in business; a hundred and twenty cracked, you're out of business, you got a process, the process don't work you're out of business; you don't know how to operate, your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contract what the hell's it to them? • 11. All My Sons By Arthur Miller All My Sons is a play by Arthur Miller which is set after the second world war but brings in information concerning things that took place during the war. It is about a successful businessman, Joe Keller, who during the war, in the name of fulfilling his so–called familial obligations, fails to recognise the importance of society when making decisions as he is blinded by lust for money (Ternate, 2016) and his strong desire to save his business for his son to take over. This review aims to describe and give personal responses to the book. Arthur Miller'sAll My Sons, 'explores a man's possible obsession with family and how he uses it to justify his wrongdoings'. Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. He was born on the 17th of October 1915 in Harlem, New York to an immigrant family of Polish and Jewish descent. • 12. All My Sons Character Analysis In the play All My Sons, author Arthur Miller successfully shows the challenges of emotional journeys to the audience through the character development of businessman, Joe Keller. Miller uses Keller as a representation of the Americans who suffered from the widespread poverty, despair, and unemployment following the Great Depression. Joe Keller lies and cheats to achieve ultimate success for himself and his family, yet in doing so destroys many relationships around him, particularly with his two sons; Chris and Larry; who died during the Second World War. It is through the plays slow build and sudden climax, that Miller is able to effectively portray his constant inner fight with himself in coming to the realisation that his false perception of himself affects those close to him, and ultimately drawing to a dramatic conclusion and restoration of order. Throughout the play, the character development of Joe Keller and his materialistic values, is used by Miller to convey to the audience, the challenges of emotional journeys. At the beginning of the play, Keller is described by through stage directions to provide insight into Keller's character and upbringing. "A business man ... with the imprint of a machine–shop worker and boss still upon him" implies that he has worked his way up from humble beginnings and has succeeded based on merits. His experiences are different than those of Jack, Adam and Cass. Only at the end of the novel, after the closing stages of everyone else, dose Willies actions come back to bite him. Up until his death, Willie got away with this analogy, “Goodness…You got to make it Doc…and you got to make it out of badness…because there isn’t anything else to make it out of';(257). With this analogy said, everything he does is justified as long as the end product is good. Inevitably, Willies actions had to come to a crashing end. • 14. Theme Of All My Sons By Joe Keller There is nothing ruthless about Joe, no hint of the robber baron in his make up , his ambitions are small a comfortable home for his family, a successful business to pass on to his sons, but he is not completely fastidious in achieving his goals. Joe Keller is the most important character in the play, All My Sons. Miller who wrote All My Sons with human understanding but moral sinew as well as dramaturgy summarised his theme, John Gossner says as, "the responsibility of man to society or the responsibility to the world and outside his home as well as in his own home". Thus, the exposure of his guilt in the supply of defective cylinder heads, and of the fact of his being responsible for the suicide committed by Larry and the death of 21 young pilots whom he comes to acknowledge as his own sons, pains Joe very much. This play takes place after World War II, in the year 1947. The play shows conflict between a Father and a son and how quickly a family can fall apart following a serious revelation. • 22. Examples Of Selfishness In All My Sons People Are Selfish It is said that 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. The author of All My Sons, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others. In the play All My Sons, there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. The character, Joe Keller, represents an image of how most people do not care about others because he is very selfish. Joe's selfishness are shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, I will explain how Joe acts selfish by blaming others. First, Miller shows how Joe acts selfish through how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty–one innocent pilots. Miller is insisting that, Joe was indeed responsible for the manufacture, and led Steve to take the repercussions of this action, when Joe states, ". . . the guy [Joe] who sold cracked cylinder heads to the Army Air Force; the guy who made twenty–one P–40's crash in Australia.". All My Sons Character Analysis Throughout the tragedy All My Sons, Kate Keller holds tightly to the idea of her son Larry being alive; however, when his death is revealed to her, she is forced to face the truth and a katharsis is created. She plants an apple tree in his memory, and the apples still cling to in the summer– like her clinging to the existence of Larry. "But why did that happen the very night she came back?... Look at it; look... Believe with me Joe. I can't stand all alone," Kate pleads (Miller 22). Kate does not want to believe her son is dead, which invokes pity on the reader. However, Kate does not want to let go of him because if he was dead, it could possibly be her husband's, Joe's, doing. In the end of the play, the reader learns of Steven, Joe's partner, being wrongfully accused of causing the death of twenty pilots because of cracked airplane cylinders. Joe, who truly committed the crime, had an alibi that he was sick so he was not able to go and fix the cylinders that killed the pilots. Kate knows Joe did the crime, "He hasn't been laid up in fifteen years..." she expresses, going against Joe's alibi (Miller 65). I wanted to discuss the American Dream and All My Sons, but I also think that topic really, nicely goes into the relevance it has today. The American Dream can be worded and defined in different ways. But as stated in Question 1, "The American Dream can be defined as the idea that in the US anyone can become successful through hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit." I think that is a definition that everyone can agree on, more or less. The Cambridge Dictionary also defines the American Dream, "the belief that everyone in the US has the chance to be successful and happy if they work hard." Also as stated in Question 1, All My Sons is often described as a negative critique of the American Dream. I'm sure we can all immediately recognize and understand what Joe Keller did is wrong and goes against what you would think the American Dream is. He kept information from authorities about the cylinders so he could get out of jail. Deever was kept in jail because of Keller's lies. Not only that, but 21 pilots died too. There is a huge moral and ethical responsibility to tell the truth and do the right thing. However, Keller lied and kept information so that he could make money and get out of jail..again, leaving Deever to sit in prison. Keller never thought about Deever, only himself and his company. During the time of the incident (1947) stress was high and they had to make quick decisions. All of the companies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was a scene in the play in which Willie gets drunk and he is portrayed as a bad person. People did not like him because he was a political agitator that uses corruption to gain power. For example, he uses corruption against his political opponents by speaking the truth. He was using blackmail and he would use intimidation against others. There was a scene in which Willie makes a move to impeach Tom so that he is able to take away his dominance and says that he will build the largest hospital in the United States. He believes that society is inherently corrupt and that the only way to rise to the top and gain power is through evil. • 28. All My Sons By Arthur Miller Dramatic tension is a figurative device an author would use to add tension to conflict between characters. In Arthur Miller's play, All My Sons, dramatic tension is created by using theoretical devices and language, utilizing conflicting character personalities, dramatic irony, and character development, to exhibit dramatic tension in order to keep the audience engaged in the play. ACT 1 At the beginning of Act One, when Keller gives the audience first impressions of characters, the audience begins to foreshadow conflicts between the characters based on each individual character's personality, this is one of the first examples of foreshadowing conflict for the audience. "KELLER is nearing sixty. A heavy man of stolid mind and build, a business man these many years, but with the imprint of the machine–shop working and boss still upon him. When he reads, when he speaks, when he listens, it is with the terrible concentration of the uneducated man from whom there is still wonder in many commonly known things, a man whose judgements must be dredged out of experience and a peasant–like common sense. It is possible that Chris would have shown signs of forgiveness if Joe were to take responsibility for his actions. Instead of doing so once again he was hiding behind doing good only for the benefits of his inner circle. "There's nothing he could do that I wouldn't forgive. Because he's my son. Because I'm his father and he's my son." In these words Keller expresses his own optimism that no matter what he is to do Chris will always understand, and forgive. That was not the case. If Keller could not forgive himself, why did he believe that Chris would ever be able to forgive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Who Is Mary Orr's All About Eve? All About Eve is based on Mary Orr's story "The Wisdom of Eve" in the International Cosmopolitan Magazine that was based on real life events. After Joseph L. Mankiewicz read the story, he was immediately enamored by the concept because he found a his way of "settling a lot of scores [with the theatre]" (Crowther). Without delay, he bought the rights to the movie and began casting. After a long and hard battle for casting Margo Channing, Mankiewicz selected Bette Davis – a replacement for his first choice – because she was the only available actress that could play the part well. Bette Davis was perfect for the role because like Margo her onscreen character, Bette Davis was a 40 year old actress, who was insecure about passing her prime (twenties) in filmography. It was a common perception that women over forty could not survive in the film industry, and Bette Davis felt the same way especially because her popularity was dwindling. The parallel between Margo and Bette allowed Bette Davis to successfully become Margo's persona through method acting. In fact, according to the Behind the Scenes Documentary, at times the other cast and crew members could differentiate if Margo Channing or Bette Davis was acting on camera. Typically, when Bette Davis received a copy of a script, she would mark them up with hundreds of revisions, but she left the script of All About Eve as is. However one major correction was made. As it turns out, the movie was originally titled Best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Man For All Seasons By Robert Bolt The book "A Man for All Seasons," by Robert Bolt is a play written to teach us a few important lessons about life. He wrote A Man for All Seasons in 1960, and the play was mounted on the London stage that same year and in New York in 1961. The themes that Bolt uses in writing this play are moral values, self, friendship, and corruption. Moral values are when a character respects his own opinion about something. Self and friendship are the relationships built between characters and how that affects the play. Overall, the most important theme of this play is corruption. Some characters that Bolt expresses corruption in is Richard Rich, Matthew, and William Roper. The main character in the play is Thomas More, an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and for a short period of time, Lord Chancellor of England. Thomas More is viewed as saint like by the people that new him. More is given the responsibility to decide whether or not King Henry VIII and his wife Catherine could get a divorce. King Henry was allowed to get married to Catherine, even though she was his brother's wife, because the judge bent the rules for him. To begin, this concert's opening acts were exciting and really set the stage for All Time Low. The first band to preform was Real Friends who are from Chicago. The group's sound can best be described as an angsty version of pop punk. Real friends played some of their most popular songs such as "I've Given Up On You" and "Floorboards". • 35. Essay on Irony in All King's Men William Penn Warren's All the King's Men is novel that explores the political society and its influences. Like several politicians in modern society, several characters have qualities that seem unsuitable to the impression that have made. These ironies in All the King's Men reveal how the characters have flaws, which can result in critical consequences. Jack Burden, Adam Stanton, Judge Irwin and Willie Stark are characters that with ironic traits. Jack Burden is known as the "student of history" ( Warren 372). The very fact that he is a historian is ironic, as he has come from an aristocratic and reputable family and grew up in Burden's Landing. Even when he does meet the Scholarly Attorney, he does not question him. If he did delve into his past, then he could have found out that Judge Irwin was his real father. This could have prevented Judge Irwin's death, as Jack may have refused or would have not even been asked to find "dirt" on him (Warren 74). In addition, it is ironic that despite being a historian, Jack believes in the "Great Twitch," which is that life must be viewed in a "mystic vision," as life is unpredictable (Warren 473). This allows man to "feel clean and free," as their actions have no effect (Warren 473). The irony exists in that historian study deep into the past to find the reasons for things, and now, Jack has started to believe that these reasons do not exist. Adam Stanton is developed as a righteous man of honor and the "most civilized denizen" (Martin 1171). Despite hating Willie and his principles, Adam agrees to be the manager of the Hospital, as he saw it was the right thing to do after he learned about his father's sinful involvement in the bribe. He saw it as his duty to make up for this sin. However, despite Adam being a man of principles, he commits the sin of killing, as he assassinates Willie after learning about Anne and Willie's affair. This instance of irony results in his own death, since Sugar Boy instantly kills Adam after Willie dies. • 36. Love And Relationships: Is It True That Love Conquers All? Love and Relationships Is it true that love conquers all? The pages of history are filled with accounts of love's conquests. From the Northern to the Southern hemisphere, from the sun's rising in the East to its setting in the West, love has travelled far and wide and has yet to quench its thirst. There have been periods in the past wherelove's power and influence has gone unrivalled by any other force, natural or otherwise. I remember sailing to a now submerged continent that love had conquered absolutely and where it had set up a dictatorship. The people were subjected to the ever–changing whims of love; they would be ordered to watch sunrises and sunsets and instead of sleeping during the night they would be made to stare longingly into the eyes of their partner. At other times, they were ordered to go without food and instead made to serenade parters from below their windows, come rain or shine. Others were made to faint at the sight of their loved ones and often injured themselves upon impact with the ground or the edge of a table or chair. Thanks to love's excesses people were sleep deprived, riddled in bruises, constantly catching colds and flu as well as suffering from diseases associated with malnourishment. So in summary, yes love can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is all a little sudden for me. • 37. Ali All That Heaven Allows Analysis Rainer Werner Fassbinder updates Douglas Sirk's 1955 All That Heaven Allows and gives it an overt and somewhat unforgiving political twist in his 1974 film, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. A director takes a great artistic risk when admittedly endeavoring to remake an already genre–acclaimed classic; but rather than being derivative, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul is a fresh commentary on the xenophobic zeitgeist of post–Nazi Germany. Both films center on the lonely lives of widows who meet and fall in love with a younger man, only to have this love deemed forbidden by social prejudices. Though updated, the film is still replete with similarities to its predecessor, and this is what distinguishes it as a homage to Fassbinder's icon, Sirk, after all. A close examination of the original will clarify the film's basic tenets and make the inspirations on which Fassbinder drew more visible. All That Heaven Allows is a melodrama, taking place in the 1950s. It chronicles a chapter in the life of Cary Scott, an upper–class widow in the autumn of her life, whose life is turned upside–down when she falls in love with her much younger gardener, Ron. Ron is somewhat of a dissident to the society which Cary is so immersed in–he reads Thoreau, takes more pride in his greenhouse than his actual house, and can probably name more species of trees than residents of the town. Rather than a disconnect, Cary and Ron experience a mutual fascination with each other–much to the dismay of Cary's high–brow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Compare And Contrast All In The Family 1.)How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar? "All in the Family" differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern–day television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non–American race or people in general would be seen as non–politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and "roasting marshmallows over it." This kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today's television shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show. While "All in the Family" greatly differs from modern American television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son–in–law and mocking of his wife, was common. This slang was honest and normal to the Bunkers, which showed real–world issues with racism and family interaction. Many real–world issues are also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Theme Of Selfishness In All My Sons People Are Selfish According to The Washington Post, 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. ("Americans are patriotic, honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The Washington Post") Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others, by showing that they are indeed selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller. Joe's selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, Miller illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. Miller shows that Joe was indeed responsible for the manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, ". . . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Weight of Paper in Wayson Choy’s Novel All That Matters Wayson Choy's novel All That Matters contains many memorable characters, however one of the most important characters in the novel is not a person at all, but rather paper. Choy's book highlights papers ubiquitous influence in the lives of the Chen family and in a broader sense the entire Chinese Canadian diaspora. In a critique of Choy's All That Matters it is stated that paper "constitutes false identities, mediates movement across borders and enables alternative though complex, spaces for diasporic mobility" (Chercover 2) . The critic by Deborah Madsen provides insight into the generation of the major themes in Choy's writing and focuses on the idea of unhomliness as the major problem that limits diasporic success. Chercover takes this analysis of unhomliness one step further concluding that paper acts as the underlying mechanism behind this problem. This feeling of belonging neither here nor there is are due to the falsified immigration document which force a new identity on immigrants, creating a confusion of identify and thus leads to the feeling of unbeloning. • 41. All The King 's Men Oxford Dictionaries defines the word responsibility as "The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone" (1). From a young age, every person must accept responsibility for decisions that he or she makes. As situations arise that must be dealt with, people have a duty to deal with those situations. In many ways, the act of living itself is an act of ultimate responsibility. In Robert Penn Warren's classic novel, All the King's Men, the central characters of the novel all have to deal with the consequences of their actions, although many of the characters try to avoid this solemn duty of life. Through analyzing the actions and inactions of the central characters, many important lessons on responsibility can be derived from the novel. Jack Burden, the narrator of the novel, ultimately learns to accept responsibility by realizing the inevitability of making decisions. As a historian, Jack frequently and desperately clings to the past throughout the novel. Often, he dangerously substitutes the past of others for his own present, believing that he can evade change by dwelling in the stagnant world of the past and never proactively making his own choices. However, after the death of Judge Irwin, Willie Stark, and Adam Stanton, Jack realizes that his insistence to live in the past– his indecision in the present– has major consequences in his own life and in the lives of those he cared for.
