ancient major texts of India. The word Hindu is to believe to originate from the ancient Persians.
The Persians who shared some of the culture with the Indian sub– continent used to call the Indus
River as Sindhu. Due to some in linguistic problems, they could not pronounce the letter S in their
language and started pronouncing the Sindhu as Hindu. The Ancient Greeks and the rest of the
world followed the same word pattern calling the Indus River Valley people as Hindus. The Hindu

Thus Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are not without connection. They are the same being that have
three different aspects, but the Supreme Being of the gods is Brahma. There are also other names
that are recognized and worshipped in the Hindu religion. For instance the name Lord Ganesha is
called upon and is represented as the head of an elephant, which represents the power of the
Supreme Being who removes obstacles and ensures success in human work. Hindus worship Lord
Ganesha before doing any activity. The World Encyclopedia of Eastern religions records and states
that "Lord Ganesha is the first son of Shiva and Parvati." The portrayal of Lord Ganesha is as a
blend of humans and animal parts, which symbolizes the ideas of perfection as formed by Hindu
sages. The goddess Durga represents the power of the Supreme Being, who preserves moral order.
The Sanskrit word for Durga actually means a fort or a place that is protected and thus is difficult to
reach. Durga is known as the Divine mother, who protects humans from evil by destroying evil
forces. Durga also has many other names like Parvati, Ambika, and Kali. She has eighteen arms and

How Saraswati Is The Goddess Of Knowledge
The story of how Saraswati came to be is a very strange one, but it explains what her dharma was
and why she is considered the goddess of knowledge. There are several different myths about how
she came to be, but most of them say that she came from the god Brahma. Brahma is the creator of
the earth and at the beginning there was not much order and everything was very chaotic. Brahma
thought that knowledge was what was missing in the universe. Saraswati is said to have come out of
Brahma's mouth riding a swan. The swan is a symbol of spiritual transcendence and perfection in
Hinduism. "Saraswati astride her swan suggests a dimension of human existence that rises about the
physical, natural world" (Kinsley 63). Saraswati emerging on a swan shows her importance in
Hinduism, because the symbol of a swan shows that she is above the physical human world.
Saraswati helped Brahma in acquiring senses and she helped him learn how to think and
comprehend things that he was not previously able to do. Saraswati says "Knowledge helps man
find possibilities where he once saw problems" (Wilkins 110). Brahma was now able to see the good
in the disorder and chaos with the help of Saraswati. This is an important part of the story for us as
humans, because Saraswati not only gave Brahma the ability to think, but humans as well "She
represents the peculiar human ability to think, which is precisely the ability that has permitted
human beings to create and imagine their innumerable cultural

Transcendentalism : A Philosophical Movement
Transcendentalism in Emerson's Poetry Transcendentalism was a philosophical movement in
America that developed during the early 19th century. Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of the most
famous transcendental writers. Transcendental ideas are different with every writer and poet, but
some key points are always present in transcendental literature: "The indwelling of the divine in the
human soul; the superiority of the individual over society...intuition, imagination, and vision as the
ways of understanding the world; Nature as both a field of study and an inspiration to self–
development; and a confidence that the universe is organic, welcoming, and inherently good"
(Habich and Nowatzki). Many of these ideas are present in Emerson's writings. Ralph Waldo
Emerson represents elements of transcendental literature through three poems: "Brahma" by
connecting life to reality through eastern religion; "Rhodora" by studying nature; and "Give All to
Love" by exploring a human's spiritual and natural journey through life and the effect love has a
human. Emerson is known for his transcendental essays, but for Emerson's poem "Brahma," the
transcendental ideas are visible and plentiful: "Thematically, he insists on the same spiritual and
physical unity and harmony in the universe, expressed in a similarly intensive and dense language,
as he does in his essays"(Mayo 535). "Brahma" is a very difficult poem to understand because one
must understand Emerson's thoughts on transcendentalism,

Hinduism : The Generic Six Types Of Hinduism
Hinduism is a religion with many different styles of worship . The generic six types of worship are
Folk Hinduism which is based on local traditions and cults of local deities; Vedic Hinduism which is
practised by traditional brahmins (a class of Hindu consisting of teachers, priests and protectors);
Vedantic Hinduism which is based on the philosophical approach of the Upanishads (a collection of
ancient Sanskrit texts); Yogic Hinduism; Dharmic Hinduism which is based on karma and Bhakti
Hinduism or devotionalist practices[1]. Each of these has a different style of worship based around
different gods and practices e.g. Vedantic Hinduism is based around the Upanishad whereas Vedic
Hinduism is based around the Universal Spiritual Truths which can be applied to anyone at
anytime[2]. For this reason, I think that it will be hard to say what each of these types of Hinduism
are and instead focus on arguments for and against the types of theism e.g. monotheism, henotheism
and polytheism. Monotheism is the belief in one god and is very common in European religions
such as Christianity. If Hinduism were to be monotheistic, I think that the God/Goddess that they
would worship would be Brahma (the creator); Vishnu (the preserver) or Shiva (the destroyer).
Of these three, Brahma is the least commonly worshipped. This first reason for this comes from the
Shiva Purana and is an argument between Brahma and Vishnu about who was the most powerful of
the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva).

Kuber is the Indian god of wealth and north direction. Also affiliated as Lokpala, or the guardian of
the directions, his abode is at Alaka. Kuber acquired the status of the god in Hindu mythological
epics.
Family
Kuber descends from the family tree of Lord Brahma, the creator of the world. If we go in detail, he
is the son of Vishrava and Illavida. Kuber is also known as the half–brother of Rava, as his father,
Vishrava married demon princess Kaikesi, who gave birth to four children, Ravana, Kumbhkarana,
Vibhishana and Surpnakha.
Kuber was married to Kauberi and they had four children. The four children were namely,
Nalakubara, Manigriva, Mayuraja, and Meenakshi. Kuber's wife Kauberi, is also known as Yakshi,
Bhadra and Charvi.

Thus Saint Bharadwaj, desirous of giving Rama and Lakshman a fitting reception, said: "Here let

Misconception about god of wealth
In Indian mythology epics, it is a misconception that Lakshmi is Goddess of wealth. Actually, Kuber
is God of wealth while Lakhsmi is Goddess of fortune. As fortune is usually associated with wealth
the misconception has risen, but I hope it's all cleared now.
How Kubera became a God?

clarity about which mythology applies, still, let us read

The Three Gods In Hinduism
Throughout India, there has been a large variation of religions that people follow. While there are
many cohesive religious systems, what makes Hinduism unique is that it is categorized as many
Indian religious ways formed together to make one single religion. (Fisher, 73). In Hinduism, there
have been three gods that are vital in the religious aspect life of Hinduism. These three gods,
Brahmā, Vishnu, and Shiva, represent the three forces of creation, preservation, and destruction in
Hinduism and when they are linked together, primarily in philosophy and art, they are often called
the Trimūrti, which means "triple form." Brahmā represents the god of creation, Vishnu represents
the god of preservation, and Shiva represents the god of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His status isn't equal to that of Vishnu or Shiva. However, Brahmā still appears in more myths than
almost every other Hindu god, very often including Vishnu and Shiva, especially in the Puranas.
One very popular myth is when Shiva appears before both Brahmā and Vishnu in the form of a
flaming phallus and tells Brahmā that he will never again be worshipped in India because he was
being punished for having wrongly declared that he saw the tip of the infinite pillar (Doniger, 1023).
We can also see in the many versions of the "Submarine Mare" myth that Brahma plays a large role
as well. In this myth, a giant fire was threatening the universe so "Brahma put the fire in the body of
a mare with fiery ambrosia in her mouth and then put the mare in the ocean to be kept until the final
flood" (Caldwell, 86). Another incident where the three gods of the Trimurti are classified together
in a myth is when Prithu, an ancient Hindu king, was being sanctified as a king. The three gods of
the Trimurti were each giving Prithu a gift at the celebration with Brahma giving him "an armour of
Vedic incantations," Vishnu giving him "the sudarśana discus, and Shiva giving him "a sword
engraved with ten moons like marks." Brahma's gift intentionally was to relate to spiritual force,
while Vishnu's related to physical force and Shiva's gift to fertility (the moon being a symbol of
production) (Bailey, 157–158). Another example of the Trimurti functioning together develops in a
description of the lingodbhava myth. In this scenario, Brahma is described approaching Vishnu, who
was reclined on his snake couch with many servants to his beckon call and his great power was on
display as Vishnu was personifying himself as a female. A quarrel brews between the two of them
about who is more superior to the other. Eventually, Shiva appears "...in the form of a fiery lingam, a
symbol of Shiva, whereby he proves his superiority over the

Hinduism and Christianity: Comparisons and Contrasts of Creation Doctrines
Each religion has its own beliefs about how the world came into being and how humans take part in
it. The creation stories of different religions try to explain how the Earth was created as well as how
the organisms on the planet came into existence. While some religions have creation stories that
focus on the how, others focus primarily on the why behind creation. Christianity's creation story
originates from the stories told in Genesis I and Genesis II of the Bible, which discusses how it is
believed that the Earth and all living things were created in addition to providing some insights into
a reason behind Earth's creation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hinduism is considered the oldest living religion in the world because some elements can be traced
back thousands of years, predating even elements in other religions like Christianity and Buddhism
(British Broadcasting Company, 2009). Despite the age of the religion, the range of practices and
beliefs found in Hinduism make it difficult to give a concise definition regarding central tenets,
scriptures, and practices. Hinduism is different from most other world religions because it does not
have a solitary founder, no commonly agreed set of teachings, and no single scripture that is read.
For these reasons, Hinduism is considered by many, especially practicing Hindus, as a "way of life,"
or as a family of religions instead of one religion (2009). Some claim that Hinduism's core feature
involves the belief in a supreme being that is impersonal, while other strands of the religion describe
and worship a personal God. Many Hindus consider Hinduism to be a monotheistic religion, despite
criticism from outsiders that believe Hinduism is a polytheistic religion. In this religion, it is
believed that a person's soul passes through a cycle of successive lives, called reincarnation, and that
the next life is dependent upon how the previous life was lived because Karma controls the cycle of
birth, life, death, and rebirth

The Thoughts Of Brahma And The Creation Of God
The Thoughts of Brahma is one of the creation myths in Hindu scripture that explains the creation of
the world that is Earth today. In this story, Brahma, the Hindu creator God, re–creates the Earth
every four ages to bring the Earth to its original condition. To create beings, Brahma meditates and
uses his mind. Brahma's thoughts are then transformed into beings. To begin inhabiting the world,
Brahma starts by creating the evil or "demons," this becomes the darkness. Brahma then creates the
good, which became the light. Afterwards, Brahma begins to create human beings. Brahma then
began thinking strangely, and as a result, horrible creatures were created. Brahma was so horrified
with his actions that "all the hairs on his head fell out," and he mistakenly created ghouls as well.
Upon moving on from the dark thoughts, Brahma was able to create all of the other living things we
know today.
In Thoughts of Brahma, the central theme of the story is creation. Whether the creating is good or
evil, this myth focuses on explaining the process on how the world became what it is today, and how
its inhabitants were formed.
The Thoughts of Brahma and the Christian creation stories in the book of Genesis have similarities
and differences (Genesis Chapter 1). In both creation stories, a divine being creates the world and all
of the beings that inhabit it. Some differences are that in the Christian faith, God takes an active role
in up keeping and sustaining the earth. In the Hindu

Hinduism and Christianity: Monotheistic Paths to One God....
Trimurti of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and the Christian Trinity of God the Father, Jesus the Son
and the Holy Spirit. In comparing Trinity and Trimurti, religious scholar, Anuradha Veeravali
(Indian Philosophies, Encyclopedia of Religion) draws parallels between Brahma and God, Vishnu
and the Holy Spirit, and Shiva and Jesus, but persists in the common idea that Christianity is a
monotheistic faith while Hinduism is polytheistic. However, Bede Griffiths, a Christian priest living
in India, has dared to challenge this firm notion of polytheism, offering comparisons between the
Christian Trinity and a different Hindu Triad– Brahman /Atman/Purusha – to conclude that both
faiths ultimately share a belief in the One Supreme power. Scrutinizing ... Show more content on

Since Brahma is not the 'God of Gods', Veeravali's attempts to draw similarities between the
Christian God and Brahma stand nullified.
There are some differences in the way the congregation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva has been
addressed. Like Veeravali, Geoffrey Parrinder, author of Triads, refers to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva
as a collective unit. However, differing from Veeravali's usage of the term Trinity, Parrinder uses the
term Trimurti ('having three forms'). Explaining the origin of the term Trimurti, Parrinder states that
this term was coined in the Early Common Era to create a triad of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
According to Parrinder, these three Gods– Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva–are the manifestations of the
three qualities of the Absolute Brahman– creation, preservation and destruction. Interestingly, the
epic Mahabharata mentions these three Gods separately and not as a collective entity. Although
there are differences in the terms used to address this triad, authors and thinkers of differing
opinions have agreed that the triad indeed does refer to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Comparative

Bull Tattoo Culture
Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa's rich history
and cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand
years ago in Samoa, has burgeoned into a global movement! Tatau, the Samoan word for tattoo,
portrays correctness and workmanlike traits. These two traits have led to the concept of tattoos
being masculine, and bull tattoos, more so! Apart of its rich cultural magnificence, why should one
give attention to the various vagaries of the Samoans? And what do they have to do with the concept
of bull tattoos?
Did you know that one of the most famous wrestlers of our times, Dwayne Johnson alias The Rock,
is a Samoan who can trace his ancestry back to the Polynesian island of Samoa? The Rock has
single–handedly raised awareness of the bull tattoo, with his impressively built body sporting the

Compare And Contrast The Hindu Creation Story
There are many creation stories, which try to tell us about the beginnings of life, but there is only
one true creation story. Hindu creation story takes many similarities from, the Bible. The Bible
creation story starts with nothing. The earth was void and darkness roamed the surface of the waters.
Then God commanded there to be light and light filled the atmosphere. The Hindu creation story

Brahman in three titles: creation, preservation, and destroying. Hindus connect these three titles with

Essay on Comparing Hinduism and Buddhism
Comparing Hinduism and Buddhism
While Hinduism and Buddhism come from the same cultural backgrounds, they are extremely
diverse in their beliefs on afterlife, deity, and rituals. Both religions believe in reincarnation, but it is
where an individual goes after he or she gets off the endless cycle that differs. These religions also
part when it comes to whom they do or do not worship. Every religion comes with rituals and
Hinduism and Buddhism are no exceptions.
Hindu followers have no doubt they go to moksha after they accomplish redemption, but Buddhists
believe that the main goal is to achieve nirvana in the afterlife. A Hindu can conquer redemption by

The Eight–Fold Path essentially states pupils should have the right knowledge, speech, aspirations,
behavior, livelihood, efforts, mindfulness, and know self–concentration. Following the Eight–Fold
Path leads to achieving nirvana.
Another distinction between Hinduism and Buddhism is their concepts of deity. Although Hinduism
claims to be a monotheistic religion, worshiping only Brahma Nerguna, Hindus worship 33 million
other gods that are aspects of Brahma Nerguna. Some of the most common gods or aspects are
Ganesha, Vishnu, and Shiva. Ganesha is the god of good luck, Vishnu is the god of families, health,
and children, and Shiva is the destroyer. Buddhism has different branches that seem to contradict its
original teachings. Some Buddhists worship Buddha, while the remainder of Buddhist think of
Buddha as just a man and follow his teachings.
An additional polarity of Hindus and Buddhists are their unique rituals and practices. The most
fundamental ceremonies for every Hindu are those that involve the rites of passage. These begin
with the first time a child eats solid food. The last rites are the funeral ceremonies and the yearly
offerings to dead ancestors. Rotating prayer wheels is a ritual of Tibetan Buddhists. The prayer
wheels have inscribed mantras or sacred chants. The wheel is believed to release benevolent forces
and acquire merit for the worshipper.

Hinduism and Buddhism are both main religions in Ancient India, both share similar beliefs, but
have many differences as well. The relationship between both religion is similar to those of

into the Jewish faith. Both religions have goals of teaching happiness and have similar backgrounds
and beliefs. Some argue that Buddhism is just another type of Hinduism, but others argue that
Buddhism became large in India because of those trying to seek happiness in a society in a caste

The Importance Of Asian Mythology And Beliefs
Due to lack of diversity taught to students involving various cultures, Asian mythology and beliefs
are very unfamiliar to the majority of the globe. Knowing different cultural views is necessary
because it opens new perspectives on different civilizations, it stops the public from being oblivious
to the rest of the world, and also allows the public to respect and understand different cultures more
profoundly. In order to know more about Asian culture, China and India's mythology and beliefs
will be reflected upon, and facts towards these views will be brought to attention, as well as their
known religious landmarks and the significance of the landmarks to the region's practitioners.
One of China's most diverse topics when it comes to mythology and beliefs are Xiǎolóng, which
translates to dragons. This country is known for its celebratory festivals which include large,
detailed dragon puppets that are controlled by several people. These puppets are used to honour the
mythical creatures that the Chinese population worship. According to Cartwright (2017) There are
multiple depictions for dragons that each contain their own meanings, like wealth and strength.
These dragons are most often seen in a good aspects, and are also known as the embodiments of chi,
which is the energy that flows through everything in the universe. Chinese dragons are described to

In Hinduism there are many Gods and Goddess in which they rule over supernatural forces such as
creation, destruction, life, death, and etc. Their appearance vary with each one having their own
unique roles, appearances and following. Generally they are depicted with many arms which shows
that they are omnipotent and some of them have more than one head which represent wisdom and

Shiva may be represented as goodness, benevolence, and serves as the protector but he also has a
darker side as the leader of all evil spirits and as the master of thieves, villains, and beggars. He is
also associated with time and the destroyer of all things but also the creator of all things his jobs is
to destroy and create the universe in an endless cycle. His appearance is he usually has two or four
arms and has a cobra with him and a third eye and always carries a trident.
Ganesha
Ganesha is one of the most important Gods and is worshiped by both Jainism and Buddhism. He is
highly recognized by his elephant head and human body representing the soul or Atman. His role as
a God is to remove obstacles from one's path. Ganesha is the son of the God Shiva and Goddess
Parvati. He was created by his mother using earth which she moulded in a shape of a boy but Shiva
was outraged and cut his head off but then Parvati remonstrated with Shiva for killing their son so
Shiva ordered a new head to be found for the boy as the first animal around was an elephant he got
its head.

Relationship Between Hindu Gods And Goddesses
Hindu Gods and Goddesses
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world. It has a complicated system of many gods.
These gods can take many forms including animals and people. Hinduism, being a debatable
polytheistic religion, has many gods who create legends that can help explain relationships between
god and people while elaborating on hindu beliefs.
Hinduism is commonly viewed as a polytheistic religion. It's many gods make up a variety of
interesting stories and myths. However, many of these gods are simply reincarnations of other gods.
A god may reincarnate to perform a certain task. They can reincarnate in human and animal and
other God like forms (Vishnu, BBC). It is the belief of some that really all the gods are just a part ...

Shiva is considered the destroyer of god or the god of that is intended to end of the universe. This
may have a negative connotation however, "in Hinduism the universe is thought to regenerate in
cycles every 2,160,000,000 years, Shiva destroys the universe at the end of each cycle which allows
for a new creation"(Mark Cartwright). Shiva is not destroying the universe but really opening up the
opportunity for new creation. The story of how Shiva and Parvati end up getting married provides
insight into the relationships between gods and other gods. When Parvati's mother did not approve
of Parvati marriage to Shiva. To show this disapproval she held a sacrifice and invite all gods,
except for Shiva. To retaliate Shiva created two demons to kill Parvati's mother. In the end the other
gods were able to rationalize with Shiva, allowing him to bring back Parvati's mother from the dead.
In their next incarnation Shiva and Parvati got married (Mark Cartwright). This story shows how
god can make flaws and how they can act irrationally. However it also shows how gods can come
together and reason with those who are out of control. Shiva shows us a more emotional side of
god's bettering our understanding of inter–god

The Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center
"The more you meditate, the more helpful you can be to others, and the more deeply you will be in
tune with God." This quote was said by Paramahansa Yogananda and is a wonderful quote that
spoke to me because I do have a close relationship to God and being helpful to other people is really
important to me. I attended the Brahma Kumaris meditation center to learn more about what
meditation consists of and expand my knowledge on why this is a big part in the Hindu religion. In
class we I learned about the different types of yoga that is practiced in Hinduism. Jhana yoga,
Bhakti yoga, Karma yoga, and Raja yoga are the different types of yoga practiced and I had some
sort of understanding on what I would possibly see in the meditation session. I did some research on
what the Brahma Kumaris meditation center was about and their main goal. In the Brahma Kumaris
meditation center they focus on specifically raja yoga and focusing on self reflection and positivity.
My first session at the meditation center was enlightening and very interesting because of the new
things I learned and what they focus on to help people overcome obstacles in their lives.
The main goal of raja yoga is to achieve control over the mind and emotions, to prevent negative
thoughts and focus on the positive aspects in your life and in general. My initial reaction once I was
inside the meditation center was that it was small and the atmosphere was comfortable. It felt like a
safe place to meditate and had no

The Question Of Origin: Hinduism
Hinduism A Comparison and Contrast
The Question of Origin – Hinduism offers multiple theories of where mankind began and leaves the
question of the universe's beginning un–answered. Out of the various theories, there is a consensus
that mankind began with the deity Brahma, the Creator. Brahma is described as being self– born
from a lotus with four heads and four arms. Brahma forms a trinity or triumvirate along with
Vishnu, who sustains the creation, and Shiva, the destroyer of the evil. Brahma created all other
deities before he split himself into the first man called Svayambhuva Manu and a woman called
Satarupa, with whom mankind began. Brahma, out of himself, also created all other living things;
animals, plants, the sun, the moon, the wind etc. Their Gods represent Brahma in ... Show more

Both religions speak of doing good works. In contrast, Hindus believe that everyone will reach
Moksha eventually through good karma, where Christians believe only those who seek God's
salvation will reach heaven. In Hinduism, good work is required to balance karma, whereas in
Christianity good works are the result of salvation (Ephesians 2:10), an internal change of heart, and
not the way to salvation.
The Question of Morality. Hindus strive to live a life of good deeds, a pure heart free from lust. and
to cause no harm to other people, animals, insects, or plants.
Comparatively. both religions recognize that man is capable of evil. In contrast, Christianity teaches
that because of our sinful nature, only God can provide salvation whereas Hinduism teaches relative
standards of morality. Man himself can overcome his sinful nature or, bad karma, through his own
actions. In Christianity, there is an absolute standard of morality that comes from an absolute source.

Does Brahma Exist?
To start off the Brahman, the idea of a god who is ever present, whose will is communicated through
his many incarnations. The immortal and unmanifest Brahman and the mortal and manifest Brahma
are the highest form beyond being and non–being (Lindtner pp 5). What first sparked my interest in
the subject was the idea of Brahman being everything and everywhere, it's like being part of a giant
organism so big that no can make out the face of it, end or beginning of it, Something so larger than
any collective that we forgot we were apart of it.

(P.F Lurquin & L. Stone, 2007: 25)
In this story, before time began, there was no heaven, no earth and no space between. The Greeks,
too, believe that the world was created out of chaos and a state of nothingness as stated in Hesiod's
theogony:
"When on high heaven was not named,
Nor was the hard ground below called by name ' "(B.B. Powell, 2002: 87)
Each new creation originates from a vast ocean that washes upon the shores of nothingness. (P.F
Lurquin & L. Stone, 2007: 26) In Hindu myth, Lord Vishnu, peacefully asleep in the coils of a giant
cobra, is awakened by the humming sound of Om in the middle of this ocean. Om is the most sacred
syllable in the ancient Sanskrit language of India and is considered in Hinduism to represent all
scriptural revelation in a single symbol. (G. Beck, 2007). The humming sound of Om grew and
spread, filling the emptiness and throbbing with energy. From his divine playfulness, a lotus flower
grows in Vishnu's navel. (A. Michaels, 2004: 298)
Brahma, another Hindu god, is known in this particular myth as Vishnu's servant as he follows
Vishnu's commands. Brahma is also a god who is more commonly known as the creator. He appears
out of the lotus flower that is formed in Vishnu's navel, and asks Vishnu who he is. Vishnu very
arrogantly replies, "Know that I am origin and disintegration. See in me the whole world, the
continents and their mountains, the oceans and the seven seas, and you too, the grandfather of the
worlds." (A. Michaels,

Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God
Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first
member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he
periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of
everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new
form once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that
of the creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most
significant one, Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there
are four sages that roam the universe as Brahma's first mind–born creations and sons; Sanaka,
Sanatana, Sananadana and Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma's
mind rather than his body and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore
devoted themselves to Vishnu and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis)
from his mind, who are acknowledged as the fathers of the human race.
Lord Brahma's birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu's navel
through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed
earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from
this lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then

Creative Response To The Hindu Creation Myth
Creative Response to the Hindu Creation Myth
How were we created? How was the universe created? What happens after we die? These questions
are some of the most important questions that we still have yet to answer. Religion helps explain
their perspective about these questions and give elaborate stories to share amongst generations.
These stories are collectively known as myths. I have decided to choose the Hindu creation myth
because I thought it has a unique response to most of these questions compared to other religions. I
chose to make a sculpture because I thought it would be the most elaborate and picturesque way to
explain this complex myth. In this response, I will summarise the Hindu creation myth into a

A large serpent drifted across this ocean with Lord Vishnu sleeping within its endless coils. From
within the ocean, a sound began to quiver and began to fill all the empty space with throbbing
energy called 'Om'. As the night drifted away, Vishnu awoke at the break of dawn and a lotus flower
grew from his navel. In the centre lied Vishnu's servant, Brahma. Vishnu commanded Brahma to
create the world. Brahma lifted his arms and calmly created the ocean and wind. He then splits his
lotus flower into three segments. One third was stretched to create the Heavens, the other two were
formed into the Earth and Sky. The Earth was then given grass, plants, flowers and trees and gave
them a sense of feeling. Shortly afterward, he created animals, fish, insects and birds. Brahma gave
them the power to see, hear and move. However, once the day has come, Lord Shiva will perform
his sacred dance of destruction and end all life and destroy absolutely everything except for Brahma.

Creation Myths In Hindu Religion
Our myth is a Hindu creation myth, titled "In the Beginning and Forever was the One, the Absolute,
Iswara". In this myth, there is a multitude of mini creation myths, from the one and only Iswara, to
Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. All of these mini myths center in on the central idea that everything has
come from the one (Iswara) and will return to it, including Brahma's sleeping and waking cycles, in
which the world is either materialized or absorbed back into Iswara, completing the cycle every time
Brahma sleeps and wakes.

But all this would not deter Lord Shiva from his penance. Kama went there. Shiva was doing his

Viswamitra joined in, "Beauty not only attracts, it tempts the seekers to own it." His opinion was
probably from his own experience.
Vashistha said," Whatever infatuates is not real beauty. It is a malady instead. It is mere lust and
greed." Indra said, "Beauty is a symbol of the divine mystery. Hence, it overwhelms. God tries to
test people 's will through infatuation."
Gautama said, "Beauty could be the reason for the dissolution of illusion."
Vashistha added, "Beauty elevates people above diseases, pain, old age, and death."
Viswamitra said, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unless Brahma brought an end to the endless discussion time would run out. Hermits were due to
return go back to earth before sunset. Even though Indra was the emperor of gods, he was the
youngest and has eternal youth. He was after luxury and indulgence. He was aggressive and
materialistic. Hence, it was normal that his opinion differed from that of Gautama. Brahma probably
wanted to expose the difference between them in front of all.
Vishnu concluded the meeting with these words. "Each experience leads to the appreciation of
morality and nonviolence. That is also the goal of beauty. Without it, there will be ugliness in the
name of beauty. Chaos will be known as the nectar of immortality. The highest level of beauty
originates from a creator with the highest consciousness. It also helps the observer to realize
everlasting boundless beauty. That is the Brahman. "
Brahma added, "Beauty creates happiness beyond senses. It is spiritual. It is the resolution of
questions related to life, mind, and soul. Even if it depends on earthly materials, beauty is never a
material itself. It not only values but also achieves its primal goal. The expression and realization of
beauty are forever. It suffices to say beauty leads a man towards salvation."
Brahma indirectly supported Gautama over Indra. While both were his students, he always
supported Gautama. Therefore, there was no surprise here. Pratha

Analysis Of The Lesson The Ring Of Recollection Essay
Critical intervention
Isao Umeda
"Purity and will to live"
In Critical Intervention No.2, to response the lesson The Ring of Recollection: and ancient indian
aesthetic theory through Sanskrit drama that taught by Ms Ranjana Thapayal, and her paper Sringara
rasa( 1 ). I found the interest in the concept of "Vak" in the paper. According to the paper, Vak is
considered one of the female entity of Saraswati. Vak is disembodied , She is speech, or the essence
of sound –the fundamental creative impulse ( 2 ). Her entity is purely abstract.
I was inspired by abstract art when I was undergraduate student and it triggered to make abstract
style art. Since then, I have focused and kept thinking about what is abstraction, or purity in fine art
more than 10 years. During this time, couple of arts have touched my chord; Western classical
music and Japanese tea ceremony. Several years later, I gradually hypothesise this two arts have
something similar concepts that can be essential concepts in my.artistic philosophy. The taught
session in MRes have developed this idea dramatically and now, I am planning research this
hypothesis in academically.
The ancient myth, no matter west or east and south or north, often depicts very important principal
concept for the art, culture, thought, identity, philosophy and so on. Therefore, through the concept
of Vak, to reconsider main argument will be beneficial for my final research. To explain my thought
for the argument, I will show my old

Hindu Authority

  • 1. Hindu Authority single source of authority. The word Hindu is not a Sanskrit word or nor mentioned in any of the ancient major texts of India. The word Hindu is to believe to originate from the ancient Persians. The Persians who shared some of the culture with the Indian sub– continent used to call the Indus River as Sindhu. Due to some in linguistic problems, they could not pronounce the letter S in their language and started pronouncing the Sindhu as Hindu. The Ancient Greeks and the rest of the world followed the same word pattern calling the Indus River Valley people as Hindus. The Hindu worship is centered on the worship of different gods. The different gods that are worship names are as follows: Shiva, Ganesha, Krishna, Nataraja, and Vishnu. But the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are not without connection. They are the same being that have three different aspects, but the Supreme Being of the gods is Brahma. There are also other names that are recognized and worshipped in the Hindu religion. For instance the name Lord Ganesha is called upon and is represented as the head of an elephant, which represents the power of the Supreme Being who removes obstacles and ensures success in human work. Hindus worship Lord Ganesha before doing any activity. The World Encyclopedia of Eastern religions records and states that "Lord Ganesha is the first son of Shiva and Parvati." The portrayal of Lord Ganesha is as a blend of humans and animal parts, which symbolizes the ideas of perfection as formed by Hindu sages. The goddess Durga represents the power of the Supreme Being, who preserves moral order. The Sanskrit word for Durga actually means a fort or a place that is protected and thus is difficult to reach. Durga is known as the Divine mother, who protects humans from evil by destroying evil forces. Durga also has many other names like Parvati, Ambika, and Kali. She has eighteen arms and in each arm she carries weapons to destroy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. How Saraswati Is The Goddess Of Knowledge The story of how Saraswati came to be is a very strange one, but it explains what her dharma was and why she is considered the goddess of knowledge. There are several different myths about how she came to be, but most of them say that she came from the god Brahma. Brahma is the creator of the earth and at the beginning there was not much order and everything was very chaotic. Brahma thought that knowledge was what was missing in the universe. Saraswati is said to have come out of Brahma's mouth riding a swan. The swan is a symbol of spiritual transcendence and perfection in Hinduism. "Saraswati astride her swan suggests a dimension of human existence that rises about the physical, natural world" (Kinsley 63). Saraswati emerging on a swan shows her importance in Hinduism, because the symbol of a swan shows that she is above the physical human world. Saraswati helped Brahma in acquiring senses and she helped him learn how to think and comprehend things that he was not previously able to do. Saraswati says "Knowledge helps man find possibilities where he once saw problems" (Wilkins 110). Brahma was now able to see the good in the disorder and chaos with the help of Saraswati. This is an important part of the story for us as humans, because Saraswati not only gave Brahma the ability to think, but humans as well "She represents the peculiar human ability to think, which is precisely the ability that has permitted human beings to create and imagine their innumerable cultural ... • 3. Transcendentalism : A Philosophical Movement Transcendentalism in Emerson's Poetry Transcendentalism was a philosophical movement in America that developed during the early 19th century. Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of the most famous transcendental writers. Transcendental ideas are different with every writer and poet, but some key points are always present in transcendental literature: "The indwelling of the divine in the human soul; the superiority of the individual over society...intuition, imagination, and vision as the ways of understanding the world; Nature as both a field of study and an inspiration to self– development; and a confidence that the universe is organic, welcoming, and inherently good" (Habich and Nowatzki). Many of these ideas are present in Emerson's writings. Ralph Waldo Emerson represents elements of transcendental literature through three poems: "Brahma" by connecting life to reality through eastern religion; "Rhodora" by studying nature; and "Give All to Love" by exploring a human's spiritual and natural journey through life and the effect love has a human. Emerson is known for his transcendental essays, but for Emerson's poem "Brahma," the transcendental ideas are visible and plentiful: "Thematically, he insists on the same spiritual and physical unity and harmony in the universe, expressed in a similarly intensive and dense language, as he does in his essays"(Mayo 535). "Brahma" is a very difficult poem to understand because one must understand Emerson's thoughts on transcendentalism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hinduism : The Generic Six Types Of Hinduism Hinduism is a religion with many different styles of worship . The generic six types of worship are Folk Hinduism which is based on local traditions and cults of local deities; Vedic Hinduism which is practised by traditional brahmins (a class of Hindu consisting of teachers, priests and protectors); Vedantic Hinduism which is based on the philosophical approach of the Upanishads (a collection of ancient Sanskrit texts); Yogic Hinduism; Dharmic Hinduism which is based on karma and Bhakti Hinduism or devotionalist practices[1]. Each of these has a different style of worship based around different gods and practices e.g. Vedantic Hinduism is based around the Upanishad whereas Vedic Hinduism is based around the Universal Spiritual Truths which can be applied to anyone at anytime[2]. For this reason, I think that it will be hard to say what each of these types of Hinduism are and instead focus on arguments for and against the types of theism e.g. monotheism, henotheism and polytheism. Monotheism is the belief in one god and is very common in European religions such as Christianity. If Hinduism were to be monotheistic, I think that the God/Goddess that they would worship would be Brahma (the creator); Vishnu (the preserver) or Shiva (the destroyer). Of these three, Brahma is the least commonly worshipped. This first reason for this comes from the Shiva Purana and is an argument between Brahma and Vishnu about who was the most powerful of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). ... Kuber: The Deity Of Wealth And Fortune Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya Dhanadhanyadhipataye Dhanadhanyasamriddhim Me Dehi Dapaya Svaha॥ Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Shreem Kleem Vitteshvaraya Namah॥ Om Hreem Shreem Kreem Shreem Kuberaya Ashta–Lakshmi Mama Grihe Dhanam Puraya Puraya Namah॥ Kuber is the Indian god of wealth and north direction. Also affiliated as Lokpala, or the guardian of the directions, his abode is at Alaka. Kuber acquired the status of the god in Hindu mythological epics. Family Kuber descends from the family tree of Lord Brahma, the creator of the world. If we go in detail, he is the son of Vishrava and Illavida. Kuber is also known as the half–brother of Rava, as his father, Vishrava married demon princess Kaikesi, who gave birth to four children, Ravana, Kumbhkarana, Vibhishana and Surpnakha. Kuber was married to Kauberi and they had four children. The four children were namely, Nalakubara, Manigriva, Mayuraja, and Meenakshi. Misconception about god of wealth In Indian mythology epics, it is a misconception that Lakshmi is Goddess of wealth. Actually, Kuber is God of wealth while Lakhsmi is Goddess of fortune. As fortune is usually associated with wealth the misconception has risen, but I hope it's all cleared now. How Kubera became a God? • 6. The Three Gods In Hinduism Throughout India, there has been a large variation of religions that people follow. While there are many cohesive religious systems, what makes Hinduism unique is that it is categorized as many Indian religious ways formed together to make one single religion. (Fisher, 73). In Hinduism, there have been three gods that are vital in the religious aspect life of Hinduism. These three gods, Brahmā, Vishnu, and Shiva, represent the three forces of creation, preservation, and destruction in Hinduism and when they are linked together, primarily in philosophy and art, they are often called the Trimūrti, which means "triple form." Brahmā represents the god of creation, Vishnu represents the god of preservation, and Shiva represents the god of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His status isn't equal to that of Vishnu or Shiva. However, Brahmā still appears in more myths than almost every other Hindu god, very often including Vishnu and Shiva, especially in the Puranas. One very popular myth is when Shiva appears before both Brahmā and Vishnu in the form of a flaming phallus and tells Brahmā that he will never again be worshipped in India because he was being punished for having wrongly declared that he saw the tip of the infinite pillar (Doniger, 1023). We can also see in the many versions of the "Submarine Mare" myth that Brahma plays a large role as well. In this myth, a giant fire was threatening the universe so "Brahma put the fire in the body of a mare with fiery ambrosia in her mouth and then put the mare in the ocean to be kept until the final flood" (Caldwell, 86). Another incident where the three gods of the Trimurti are classified together in a myth is when Prithu, an ancient Hindu king, was being sanctified as a king. The three gods of the Trimurti were each giving Prithu a gift at the celebration with Brahma giving him "an armour of Vedic incantations," Vishnu giving him "the sudarśana discus, and Shiva giving him "a sword engraved with ten moons like marks." Brahma's gift intentionally was to relate to spiritual force, while Vishnu's related to physical force and Shiva's gift to fertility (the moon being a symbol of production) (Bailey, 157–158). Another example of the Trimurti functioning together develops in a description of the lingodbhava myth. In this scenario, Brahma is described approaching Vishnu, who was reclined on his snake couch with many servants to his beckon call and his great power was on display as Vishnu was personifying himself as a female. A quarrel brews between the two of them about who is more superior to the other. Eventually, Shiva appears "...in the form of a fiery lingam, a symbol of Shiva, whereby he proves his superiority over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Holly Capps BIO 365 Dr. Dommer 11 October 2013 Hinduism and Christianity: Comparisons and Contrasts of Creation Doctrines Each religion has its own beliefs about how the world came into being and how humans take part in it. The creation stories of different religions try to explain how the Earth was created as well as how the organisms on the planet came into existence. While some religions have creation stories that focus on the how, others focus primarily on the why behind creation. Hinduism is considered the oldest living religion in the world because some elements can be traced back thousands of years, predating even elements in other religions like Christianity and Buddhism (British Broadcasting Company, 2009). Despite the age of the religion, the range of practices and beliefs found in Hinduism make it difficult to give a concise definition regarding central tenets, scriptures, and practices. Hinduism is different from most other world religions because it does not have a solitary founder, no commonly agreed set of teachings, and no single scripture that is read. For these reasons, Hinduism is considered by many, especially practicing Hindus, as a "way of life," or as a family of religions instead of one religion (2009). Some claim that Hinduism's core feature involves the belief in a supreme being that is impersonal, while other strands of the religion describe and worship a personal God. Many Hindus consider Hinduism to be a monotheistic religion, despite criticism from outsiders that believe Hinduism is a polytheistic religion. In this religion, it is believed that a person's soul passes through a cycle of successive lives, called reincarnation, and that the next life is dependent upon how the previous life was lived because Karma controls the cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth ... • 8. The Thoughts Of Brahma And The Creation Of God The Thoughts of Brahma is one of the creation myths in Hindu scripture that explains the creation of the world that is Earth today. In this story, Brahma, the Hindu creator God, re–creates the Earth every four ages to bring the Earth to its original condition. To create beings, Brahma meditates and uses his mind. Brahma's thoughts are then transformed into beings. To begin inhabiting the world, Brahma starts by creating the evil or "demons," this becomes the darkness. Brahma then creates the good, which became the light. Afterwards, Brahma begins to create human beings. Brahma then began thinking strangely, and as a result, horrible creatures were created. Brahma was so horrified with his actions that "all the hairs on his head fell out," and he mistakenly created ghouls as well. Upon moving on from the dark thoughts, Brahma was able to create all of the other living things we know today. In Thoughts of Brahma, the central theme of the story is creation. Whether the creating is good or evil, this myth focuses on explaining the process on how the world became what it is today, and how its inhabitants were formed. The Thoughts of Brahma and the Christian creation stories in the book of Genesis have similarities and differences (Genesis Chapter 1). In both creation stories, a divine being creates the world and all of the beings that inhabit it. Some differences are that in the Christian faith, God takes an active role in up keeping and sustaining the earth. In the Hindu ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In comparing Trinity and Trimurti, religious scholar, Anuradha Veeravali (Indian Philosophies, Encyclopedia of Religion) draws parallels between Brahma and God, Vishnu and the Holy Spirit, and Shiva and Jesus, but persists in the common idea that Christianity is a monotheistic faith while Hinduism is polytheistic. However, Bede Griffiths, a Christian priest living in India, has dared to challenge this firm notion of polytheism, offering comparisons between the Christian Trinity and a different Hindu Triad– Brahman /Atman/Purusha – to conclude that both faiths ultimately share a belief in the One Supreme power. There are some differences in the way the congregation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva has been addressed. Like Veeravali, Geoffrey Parrinder, author of Triads, refers to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as a collective unit. However, differing from Veeravali's usage of the term Trinity, Parrinder uses the term Trimurti ('having three forms'). Explaining the origin of the term Trimurti, Parrinder states that this term was coined in the Early Common Era to create a triad of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. According to Parrinder, these three Gods– Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva–are the manifestations of the three qualities of the Absolute Brahman– creation, preservation and destruction. Interestingly, the epic Mahabharata mentions these three Gods separately and not as a collective entity. Although there are differences in the terms used to address this triad, authors and thinkers of differing opinions have agreed that the triad indeed does refer to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. • 27. Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new form once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that of the creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most significant one, Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there are four sages that roam the universe as Brahma's first mind–born creations and sons; Sanaka, Sanatana, Sananadana and Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma's mind rather than his body and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore devoted themselves to Vishnu and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis) from his mind, who are acknowledged as the fathers of the human race. Lord Brahma's birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu's navel through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from this lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These questions are some of the most important questions that we still have yet to answer. Religion helps explain their perspective about these questions and give elaborate stories to share amongst generations. These stories are collectively known as myths. I have decided to choose the Hindu creation myth because I thought it has a unique response to most of these questions compared to other religions. I chose to make a sculpture because I thought it would be the most elaborate and picturesque way to explain this complex myth. A large serpent drifted across this ocean with Lord Vishnu sleeping within its endless coils. From within the ocean, a sound began to quiver and began to fill all the empty space with throbbing energy called 'Om'. As the night drifted away, Vishnu awoke at the break of dawn and a lotus flower grew from his navel. In the centre lied Vishnu's servant, Brahma. Vishnu commanded Brahma to create the world. Brahma lifted his arms and calmly created the ocean and wind. He then splits his lotus flower into three segments. One third was stretched to create the Heavens, the other two were formed into the Earth and Sky. The Earth was then given grass, plants, flowers and trees and gave them a sense of feeling. Shortly afterward, he created animals, fish, insects and birds. Brahma gave them the power to see, hear and move. However, once the day has come, Lord Shiva will perform his sacred dance of destruction and end all life and destroy absolutely everything except for Brahma.
