1. The Ripper Case Study
In the late Victorian era, eastern London's Whitechapel district was rich with misfortune. In 1888,
the highly impoverished area was diseased with rampant crime, homelessness, and prostitution, and
due to the murders it historically took a hit in reputation. The area was looked upon as severe lower
class and no recorded attempt was made to help relieve the community. As suggested, "the Ripper
case not only makes evident the ways in which Victorian society policed sexual difference and
mental deviance, but it also demonstrates related attitudes toward ethnicity and social class"
(Cohen). This caused degrading attitudes towards the residents, specifically prostitutes, of
Whitechapel. The nature of these murders were considered inconceivable and the world's first
international news coverage of a crime followed. Because of this, "as the killings unfolded, fear
gripped the East End, a near riotous situation developed, and hundreds of extra police were drafted
in to patrol the streets of Whitechapel" (Rubinstein 11). One of the more intriguing aspects of the
murders is the amount of worldwide newspaper coverage that immediately prompted. People were
outraged with the lack of competence the policed seemed to have, which led to journalist themselves
investigating these cases extensively. Local residents were thoroughly interviewed, the police were
followed, and for what was not proven, much embellishment was used in order to sell more
newspapers. In consequence, the wide coverage

August 31, 1888 the first victim of the murderer called "Jack the Ripper" was discovered in London.
The name was picked up from a letter that was sent to the local newspapers of London. The letter
was uninterruptedly reported to the police, and from then onward he was addressed as Jack the
Ripper. It stated that the person writing the letter frowned upon prostitutes and whores, and that he
had no problem in ripping apart their bodies. It leaves room to investigate and question, the
education system as well as the actions the government had taken in response to Jack the Rippers
killing spree In August 1833, Parliament voted sums of money each year for the construction of
schools for poor children, the first time the state had become involved

5. Jack The Ripper Analysis
Jack the Ripper was a vicious serial killer from London who killed 5 prostitutes in 1888. He was
never found and to this day no one knows for sure who the killer is, and what where his motives. It
is hard to be sure of all the answers considering he committed them so long ago. There are now
many theories of the man behind the name expressed through movies, books, and short films. Jack
the Ripper committed the murders the way he did because he held a grudge against women, and he
felt they deserved it. Jack the Ripper, more than likely, held a grudge against all women. All of Jack
the Rippers victims were female which must be because of a reason. Most of them were prostitutes
which made them an easier target. James Maybrick is one of many of the people suspected for the
murders. In the book, The Crimes of Jack the Ripper by Paul Roland, Roland writes, "...James
Maybrick, a wealthy Liverpudlian cotton merchant and the previous battle crease, who was
poisoned by his wife Florence in May 1889." (Roland 107). James Maybrick caught his wife
cheating on him multiple times. With this information it is easy to suspect that he is the murderer. It
makes sense that he would kill girls while having intercourse to get back at his wife. He was angry
at her at cheating so he took it out on all women (Biography.com Editors). The way he would kill his
victims shows that he felt very strong feelings towards them. He would not have been so harsh if he
was not so angry at them or held a grudge

Jack the ripper the notorious and legendary London murderer started his reign of terror in the August
of 1888. Jack the ripper is a fairly difficult character to find proper information on (regrettably
noted) however his murders are not. It is speculated that he killed more than five people but the
Canonical five are a definite. All of them where prostitutes from the Whitechapel area of London; a
poor and deteriorating side of town. The first of these murders was Mary Nichols she was murdered
on August 31st 1888 (www.jack the ripper.org). The murders that happened after followed in this
order. Annie Chapman was the second of the five main victims she was murdered on September 8th
1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The third and fourth victims shared the same day of death with a
peculiar twist. Jack the Ripper was known to deface and mutilate all the bodies in which he slayed,
Elizabeth Stride the third victim was wholly intact(www.bbc.co.uk/history). Both Elizabeth Stride
and Catherine Eddowes died on the same day September 30th 1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The
final victim to be famously associated with the case of Jack the Ripper was Mary Kelly who was
8. killed on November 9th 1888. All of the victims were more than likely unaware of their fates
beforehand, he typically knocked them out before he would kill and maim them. Jack the Ripper's
scenes in which he left the corpses were calculated, he was informed and educated on how it is he
done what he did. It was believed at the time that he was potentially a doctor or a butcher due to the
tools needed to do what was done to the bodies. In addition to this the cuts left on the body showed
that the killer had knowledge of the human anatomy and the way it worked. He usually always

Recently an eight part documentary series called American Ripper aired on the History Channel. In
the series the grandson of H. H. Holmes, Jeff Mudgett, sets out to prove that H. H. Holmes was also
Jack the Ripper. While the theory is certainly interesting, some viewers are skeptical as there are
several differences in the psychological profiles of the two killers. After reading about some
profiling techniques utilized by the F.B.I., I was curious to see how similar the killers were. The
F.B.I developed a method of profiling where killers are classified as either organized or
disorganized. Two notable characteristics of a disorganized killer include leaving the body in plain
view and sudden violence to the victim. In contrast, organized killers

Jack the ripper, known for the murder of five prostitute killed in the same ways but he has not been

He has done five gruesome murder without his face being revealed, years have past without no trace
leading to who done it.
I've have been doing research on the unsolved case of Jack the Ripper and have found some
interesting facts about the case. According to Richard Jones wrote on his website jack–the–

along. One of the victim's named was Emma Smith said that she was attacked by a gang rather than
just a one particular person before she passed away. After Emma Smith death, Martha Tabram was
killed around the Whitechapel., Police claims that Martha was Jack's first victim because the way he

people and eat their raw flesh. Which means she saying that he's a cannibal. But it's hard to believe
since the artist died in 1942. In one painting it shows a dead woman with a necklace made out of

Police and Crime Investigators are still asking questions about the notorious murderer Jack the

solved. Who was Jack the Ripper? April 3rd, 1888, in the East End of London near the Whitechapel
District, the first of five of the most famous unsolved murder cases in history occurred. Emma
Smith, a local prostitute, was maliciously attacked by a gang at the Wentworth Street Junction on
Osborn Street. The gang robbed her of all her money and beat her senseless. They even forced a
blunt object into her genitalia. Smith survived her initial attack and managed to struggle back to her

morning, John Davis, an elderly man who resided at 29 Hanbury Street, was walking downstairs
through the dark passageway that would lead him outside when he witnessed a sight that would
render him horrified. He then saw two men walking through the same passageway, so he called them
over. They followed John Davis into the backyard of the building where they all witnessed the
mutilated body of Annie Chapman lying between the steps of the building and a wooden fence. Her
head was turned toward the house and her clothes had been hoisted above her waist just like the
other victims. Her hands were covered in blood, and her throat had been slashed. The three men go
off to search for a police, and eventually Inspector Chandler arrives. He calls for medical help and a
man named Dr. Bagster Phillips comes to the scene. He left a testimony that stated,

made him more terrifying was the fact you wouldn't see him coming is what gave him the power of

enforced. Even with all the coverage investigators could not connect anyone with the murders. In
1888, over a time period of 10 weeks, Jack the Ripper walked the streets of East End. This is where
he encountered and murdered several prostitutes between the hours of midnight and dawn. The
victims' bodies were thrown around like rag–dolls, laid out, cut throats, and their abdomens had

The Whitechapel Murders and those of Jack the Ripper are not generally one and the same. Over a
period of three years towards the end of the nineteenth century a number of prostitutes were
murdered under different circumstances – the murder of prostitutes was not an especially unique
occurrence during those times but several of the murders drew particular attention on account of the
savagery with which the victim's bodies were mutilated. Within the Whitechapel Murders was a
cluster of murders that demonstrated sufficient similarities as to suggest that they were committed
by the same person. One of the first instances of serial murder was thus identified and

The employment situation was even worse for women and it is little wonder that many had no
alternative but to resort to prostitution as a source of income.
The newspapers of the day were as colourful and inaccurate in much of their editorial reporting as
the police forensic investigations were limited through lack of investigative techniques. Even the
identification of bodies was dependent largely upon facial recognition, distinguishing marks, or
papers on the corpse. Misidentification of bodies, either by accident or design, especially those
subject to decomposition and including the very many corpses pulled from the Thames, must have
been commonplace.
Fingerprinting was still in the process of being developed. A classification scheme appeared in 1901
and first used in a trial in the UK in 1902. Dental records were non–existent and blood grouping
only developed after the identification of the different types in 1901. From that it became possible to
serologically identify other body fluids. DNA was not discovered until 1953 and the unique
identification of individuals by DNA profiling did not follow until 1985. In 1910, an important
principle of forensic science was established by Edmund Locart who suggested that every contact
leaves a trace; a criminal will always carry away with him some trace from the scene of the crime
and will leave behind some trace of his presence. This is the very foundation of forensic science that

England has always been known for their elevated culture and afternoons fit for tea, but in the small
town of Whitechapel, London around 1888 this was not the case. Poverty played a big role during
this time period and mothers of small families had to prostitutes themselves in order to provide
meals for their families. Between August and November of 1888, a notorious murderer rose to the
surface, slaughtering at least five women escorts. The legend of Jack the Ripper is one of the most
famous, yet unsolved mysteries of English crime.
I. Suspected Murder Victims August 31, 1888, was the first killing, Mary Ann Nichols was found
dead on the side of a street at four o'clock in the morning. She had been dead for approximately 20
minutes, her throat had been slit, her abdomen mutilated with one deep jagged wound, several
incisions across the abdomen, and three or four similar cuts on the right side caused by the same
knife at least 6–8 inches long used violently and downwards. There seemed to be surprise at the
small amount of blood at the crime scene, "about enough to fill two large wine glasses, or half a pint
at the most" (Llewellyn). This comment led to the suspicion that Nichols was not killed where her
body was found, but the blood from her wounds had soaked into her clothes and hair, and there was
little doubt that she had been killed at the crime scene by a swift slash to the throat. Death would
have been instantaneous, and the abdominal injuries, which would have

Prior to the Ripper killings, the Metro Police force was created. Even before the killings Women,

In August 1888, the first of a series of murders was committed by a killer who became known as
Jack the Ripper. To this day the identity of the killer remains a mystery. Five women were brutally

Source A tells us that the two murders were aimed directly at the poorest people in East End at the

3)How useful are Sources D and E…?
The evidence of Elizabeth Long, the rippers only survivor, described the man she had seen Annie
Chapman, another victim talking to prior to her death. The description is quite vague as she only
comments on what she could make out when it was dark and from far away, so it seems quite
unreliable and it doesn't tell us enough, so concentrating on this to find the Ripper would be a waste
of time. But it was an eye witness account so it would be quite useful. Source E relies on an article
published in a local newspaper, so it could be biased, and it also relies on the information of only
one informant and that could also be biased. The source was produced to inform the neighborhood
about they could be on the look out and be aware that there was a murderer loose. The article says
that it is basically the police's fault that these murders keep happening because they should have

In the year 1888, an unknown serial murderer killed 5 innocent women in London, England.
Nobody was ever convicted of these terrible crimes, and they still go unsolved to this day. There are
multiple reasons that the killer, given the name of Jack the Ripper, was never caught. Location, era,
and law enforcement were all strong contributing factors. Jack the Ripper is still a mystery due to
the environment that made up the East End of London, a lack of modern investigational
technologies, and the weak police force in the area. The East End area of London was not an ideal
place of residency in 1888. Although it was home to some working middle class citizens, as the rest
of London was at the time, the city in which the murders took place, Whitechapel, was composed
mostly of slums. As stated by Richard Jones, "a whole section of London society fought a daily
battle against poverty and starvation." Disease, crime, violence, and drunkenness lingered on every
street corner. Only 55% of children living here made it past the age of 5 due to starvation and
disease (Rumbelow). The area was lacking in available work, and people were unemployed and
homeless; many were forced to result to a life of prostitution just to have a place to sleep at night. In
1888, Whitechapel alone was home to more than 1,200 working prostitutes (Rumbelow).

In my opinion, the most suspicious suspect would be Druitt. The reason why I believe it was Druitt
is because there is no way that many things could be "coincidental". He "unexpectedly" dismissed

The law enforcement stated that Jack the Ripper was either a physician or had medical training.

Jack the Ripper : Opposing Viewpoints
By : Mason Belcher
Jack the Ripper was best known as a serial killer that was never identified. His amazing surgical cuts
gave him the name "Jack the Ripper". Most of his murders happened in the Whitechapel district of
London. Though only five people were killed by his hands, others were believed to be his victims.
Thanks to newspaper reportage on the case, coupled with the records and musings of philanthropists
and reformers who wished to bring the plight of the east end's poor to the attention of the wider
Victorian Society.
One of many intriguing aspects of the cases are the number of letters that were sent to the authorities

On September 30, 1888 the murders of the third and fourth victims were committed. Elizabeth
Stride was murder on Berners' Street. Her throat cut, but there was no mutilation. She was found
around 1:00 am by Louis Diemschutz. Ten minutes later and three quarter of a mile away, Catherine
Eddowes, the fourth victim, was found at Mitre Sqaure. Her throat had been cut, her face mutilated
beyond recognition, her right ear lobe nearly severed, a portion of her nose had been cut off, her face
slashed, and one kidney had been removed. On October 15th, George Lusk received a horrific
package which included a letter addressed to him and a portion of a kidney. The letter stated it was
half of the kidney he took from one of the women.
On November 9th, 1888, the last believed victim of Jack the Ripper was Mary Jane Keller. She was
murdered in her room at Miller's Court. Her throat had been cut and her body had been mutilated
more severely than all his other victims. Skin had also been removed from her legs.
The original police reports of the Whitechapel murders are in envelopes marked "Victims",
"Suspects" and "Letters". The files were supposed to remain sealed until 1992, but were opened in
the 1970's. Some believed a lot of the evidence was destroyed. Some was lost during the bombing of
World War II, but some was lost by mismanagement. Some was deliberately destroyed to save
space. Some people believed evidence was destroyed to protect an important

Between August and November 1888, a series of eleven violent murders, known as the
"Whitechapel Murders", stunned the community of Whitechapel London. Due to the high number of
attacks against the women in this area, the true number of victims is unknown. It is commonly
believed that five of the eleven murders, also known as the "Canonical Five", were done by the same
person. The identity of the killer has never been solved, but many believe the murders are the work
of one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, Jack The Ripper.
The first suspected murder by the hands of Jack The Ripper was that of Mary Ann Nichols, which
took place on August 31st, 1888. Mary's body was found by two men named Charles Cross and
Robert Paul. They discovered her body walking through Buck's Row on their way to work. Not
knowing what to do and assuming she was just passed out drunk, they left her body there and
continued on their way to work. It wasn't until Constable John Neil walked through Buck's Row that

One suspected victim of The Ripper was named Alice McKenzie. Her body was found in Castle
Alley. Her injuries were far less worse than those on previous victims. She had only suffered a
severed cut to her artery and multiple small cuts all over her body, accompanied by bruises. Several
detectives still believed she was a victim of Jack the Ripper, despite her injuries not being quite the
same pattern or style of The Ripper. Many believe Alice McKenzies death was done by a copycat
killer. Another possible victim was Frances Coles. Her body was found in a passageway beneath a
railway. She had visible wounds on the back of her head, these wounds suggest she was thrown to
the ground after having her throat slit.. Other than these injuries, there were no mutilations to the

"Jack the Ripper"
Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer, whom some believe never even existed at all.
From August to November 1888, Jack the Ripper terrorized the East End of London by being
responsible for the death and mutilation of at least seven female prostitutes. The destitute East End
is also known as the White Chapel district of London, England. A few of the prostitutes were
targeted as they were leaving brothels in and around the White Chapel district. Jack the Ripper
seemed to be targeting drunken women who had no sense of time or what they were doing (Jack the
Ripper).

The rest of the responsibility lies with the Ripper. He may have been a sexual serial killer of a type
all too common in the 1990's, but he was also bent on terrifying a city and making the whole world
take notice of him by leaving his horribly mutilated victims in plain sight. Lastly, the Ripper was
never caught and it is the mysteries surrounding this killer that both add to the romance of the story
and creating an intellectual puzzle that people still want to solve ( Ebsco host).
It is unclear just how many women the Ripper killed. It is generally accepted that he killed five,
though some have written that he murdered only four while others say seven or more. The public,
press, and even many junior police officers believed that the Ripper was responsible for nine
slayings. The five that are generally accepted are:
1. Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols murdered Friday, August 31 1888.
2. Annie Chapman, murdered Saturday , September 8, 1888.
3. Elizabeth Stride, murdered Sunday, September 30, 1888.
4. Catharine Eddowes, also murdered that same date.
5. Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette) Kelly, murdered Friday, November 9, 1888. Besides these five there
are good reasons to believe that the first victim was really Martha Tabram who was murdered
Tuesday, august 7, 1888, and there are important considerations for questioning whether Stride was
a Ripper victim. As to the actual number of women that the Ripper killed, there is no simple

Jack the Ripper's identity is still unknown after all these years but many people believe he is a
butcher or doctor based on the tools he used and his knowledge of the human anatomy. There have
been over one hundred suspects but no one has been charged for the crime, there have been many
conspiracy theories about who the killer is and what his job was but the police have not confirmed
any of it. Some of the people suspected of the crime are Aaron Kosminski a jewish polish emigrant,
Thomas Cutbush a disturbed and violent man who was wandering the areas streets while the
murders took place, and John Druitt an assistant schoolmaster (http://www.jack–the–ripper.org).
Another theory is that Prince Albert Victor the grandson of Queen of Victoria is the killer, famous

In August 1888, the Whitechapel neighborhood of London first became aware of a monster in its
midst. Whitechapel is known to have been home to the most severely unfortunate of souls, the
poorest of the poor, prostitutes, the mentally ill, and alcoholics. Prostitutes turned tricks to earn their
doss money (money required for a night's lodging), often, only to spend it on drink instead. Most
Whitechapel residents were physically unwell, either from poor nutrition, lack of medical care,
filthy living conditions, sexually transmitted diseases, or any number of other factors, that in such
conditions, contributed to an unhealthy community. Jack the Ripper, as he is still known today,

Upon examination by the doctor, it was found that her throat had been cut back to the vertebrae, and
both arteries on either side of her neck had been severed. It was concluded at autopsy that the cuts
had been made by a sharp, long bladed knife. Other than the deadly neck wound, there were no
other injuries on the body until the lower abdomen; there were several deep incisions across and into
the lower abdomen (Casebook: Jack the Ripper – Mary Ann "Polly" Nichols). She had been
disemboweled.
Polly Nichols is accepted today as the first of the Jack the Ripper victims, but in 1888 there had
recently been 2 other consonant murders involving prostitutes. Police officials surmised that they
might have a repeat killer (the term serial killer had not yet been coined). Scotland Yard determined
that the local division of their police force was not sufficiently skilled to solve this case. Inspector
Frederick George Abberline, who had only recently been promoted out of the local division, was
contacted and began working on the case immediately. Abberline had spent 14 years as a detective
in the Whitechapel area and had "gained unrivalled knowledge of the area's streets and criminals
(Inspector Abberline)."
The prostitutes of the area recounted tales of a man to whom they referred as leather apron. He ran

Who is Jack the Ripper?
From August 1888 to November of the same year, the Whitechapel area of London was under attack
by an unknown assailant. He terrorized the district, as well as surrounding areas, by killing and
mutilating prostitutes all within a mile of each other (Biography.com Editors, 2015). During that
time, violence towards prostitutes was not unusual, but the way the bodies were attacked and
dismembered lead officials to believe the killings were acted out by a single offender
(Biography.com Editors, 2015).
It can be construed; the Ripper killings suggested a sociopathic tendency with a deep hatred of
women. Not only did he kill them by slicing their throats, but he also dismembered and mutilated

In today's day in age, we are provided with many new advances that allow us to identify criminals.
Using fingerprint analysis and DNA, we can streamline the identification process and allow the
perpetrators to be named. With all the dismemberment Jack the Ripper participated in amongst his
victims it is likely he injured himself in the process. Not only could his DNA have been at the crime
scene, but trace evidence from his hair or clothing fibers could have also been there. At that time,
when technology was sparse, they were unaware of the possibilities that awaited their future

54. The Mystery Of Jack The Ripper
Nobody could ever put a face to the so known, "Jack the Ripper". Beginning in 1891 and finally
evolving in 1891, ten murders took place in the area of London known as the East End. They weren't
randomly chosen either they all were street prostitutes. As well as a case that they were trying to
correlate the same murderer with, so it was included in the file. The "Pinchin Street torso" , but it
had no association with the other murders. In this case they had discovered a female torso which had
been thrown away under a railway overpass. The search for Jack the Ripper lasted for one hundred
twenty years including theories and augmented debates.
The modern day forensics now and then were a lot different. Crime Scene Investigation,
Fingerprinting, and even crime scene photography were not used in the police investigations at the
time of the murders. There was also no social media then to spread the word around about him and
gather any clues.
All the murders in Whitechapel occurred in Spitalfields or the Whitechapel area with the exception
of Rose Mylett which occurred 2 1/2 miles east of the Royal London hospital and was debated if it
was a murder.

1. From looking at the newspaper article on source A, I can determine the following information
regarding the murder of Polly Nichols. Firstly, I can ascertain that it was the second of the
Whitechapel murders. I can draw this conclusion from the first few words 'the two murders which
have so startled London'. The second point we can learn from this article is that the killer had no
apparent motive for the killings, supposedly because money wasn't missing from his victims; 'no
adequate motive in the shape of plunder can be traced'. Also, the article tells us that the victims have
been 'the poorest of the poor'

The precision and skill shown in the cuts suggest the killer had a good anatomical knowledge,
however, source A states it had been the work of a 'demented being', which contradicts this theory,

hand primary evidence from reports on the Ripper's murders written by professionals. Source A's

Source C. Source C was written by a well–educated doctor with no need to sensationalise facts.

Elizabeth Long's description of what may have been the Ripper, suggests he was well suited for
hiding in the shadows of Whitechapel without being seen dues to his attire, e.g. 'he was dark
complexioned and was wearing a deerstalker hat I think he was wearing a dark coat', however, the
evidence given by Long may well have been a description of a totally different client, as Annie
Chapman may have served as many as 10 men that night. Even if it was the Ripper, the evidence
given was very vague and based on presumptions, with no positive or solid facts at all e.g. 'as far as
I could tell'. Also the whole report by Long seems very unsure, with language like; 'as far as I could

Jack the Ripper terrorized the streets of London of unknown reasons. With his ability to disappear
he was impossible to track, therefore making him one of the most interesting and clever criminals

London. The killings rapidly occurred over an 11– week period but they have both haunted and

She had dark brown hair and blue eyes, Chapman was plump and had light complexion. The Dr.
performing post–mortem was concerned that the body had been washed; fearing valuable evidence
had been removed. "Additionally, eyewitness accounts do not match up with Dr. estimated time of
death "(Jakubowski 27). The same cut was applied to Chapman's neck as was applied to the other
victims. There were two parallel cuts down the spine, estimated to be approximately one inch apart.
Her abdomen was completely exposed and all of the internal organs were now hanging about her
corpse. Two thirds of the bladder had been removed from the body as well.
On September 30, 1888, the third victim, known as "Long Liz" was discovered. Elizabeth Stride's
body was found "still pumping blood from the slashed neck, indicating a recent and interrupted
attack" (McNab 109). Jack the Ripper did not remove the organs from Stride because it is believed
that he was interrupted and could not finish the job. Yet it was brutal, for he had to rapidly kill her
due to the fact Elizabeth could now identify her murderer. As well as Nichols, her teeth were also
found to be missing. The body of Ms. Stride was mistakenly identified as her sister, Elizabeth Watts.

why he did what he did, but no one has proved the exact details of who is Jack the Ripper.

One recent theory is that Jack the Ripper is actually two men working as one. "He believes that there
were, in fact, two perpetrators (both men), thus accounting for the apparent ease with which the
murders took place; for instance, the unfinished desecration of the third victim, Elizabeth Stride,
suggests that the killing was disturbed, a warning being given by an accomplice." ("Jack the Ripper"
722) These two men were lovers who help each other get away when the cops were getting close.
This shows that there was a dominant killer and a submissive accomplice. The dominant would do
the killing and writing while the accomplice would help him by keeping the police off his trail or
warning him when the police were close. Another theory about Jack the Ripper is about a man
named James Maybrick. Maybrick's family, generations after, gave investigators a diary that James
wrote giving detailed descriptions of the killings, and described his itch for cannibalism. This is an
event that threw investigators for a loop seeing as there was a book describing everything that
happened in that time that no one knew about for a long time. Whether or not this diary was real or
forged to make their name into something famous, this caused every person who was working on
that case, whether it was a regular citizen who is interested in solving the Jack the Ripper case or a
news reporter who was working on a story, was given a new perspective to work on. "The discovery
of an unknown 'Diary of Jack the Ripper', quickly marketed by mainstream publishers 104 years
after the crimes, rightly gave rise to the deepest suspicions. It was denounced as a crude forgery,

In today's society, it is common to see rape murders or any type of murder that had some form of
sexual assault. What the world knows about Jack the Ripper is that he was a killer in London that
gruesomely murdered most likely five women and was never caught.
All the victims of Jack are truly unknown, but it is believed that he was only responsible for five of
the killings that took place in the London area. There were other killings that happened around the
same time as Jack's, but these murders were dismissed as the work of "copy–cats" looking to share
the spotlight with "The Ripper." The five women that were accepted as the victims of "Jack the
Ripper" were Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catharine Eddowes, and
Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette) Kelly. It is also presumed that Martha Tabram was a victim of Jack but
the exact number is uncertain. Some sources say that he killed as few as four women while others
say that he killed a minimum of nine and mostly likely killed several more. The first killing in this

Over a hundred and twenty–five years later Jack the Ripper, a murderer from the East End of
London, who has yet to be found and more than likely to be dead by now, still rings bells of interest
as well as terror all over the world. His case is known as "The Whitechapel Murders," and has yet to
be solved. During the era in which Ripper was active, there were eleven murders committed in
London; however, the Ripper is only believed to be directly responsible for five of these victims
("The Whitechapel Murder Victims"). Although his well–known name has rung bells for over a
century, many still question how he has remained so famous in the first place. Understandably so,
since unquestionably there have been more massive serial killers since Rippers' era, being that
Rippers' accreditation is only to five victims killed within a twelve or so week period. On the other
hand, to understand why Ripper is still so famous, it is essential to understand his killings beyond
the surface. It is not just how many he murdered, but where he killed, the name for which he became
known as, and the simple fact that people still want answers.
Understanding where the Ripper killed and why it plays such an important role in his case is the first
part of going beyond the surface. Many know that Jack the Ripper is a murderer from the East End
of London, who killed near Whitechapel Road, that as valid as it is, remains only a simple fact.
People fail to realize there is more to the story than that.

With the passage of time, the list of permissible suspects has grown to nearly a hundred people, with

working on the case back in 1888 were never able to attach enough physical evidence to build a case

reports proved inconclusive or contradictory, and added to the difficulty in procuring a legitimate

five women participating in prostitution in the Whitechapel district. On November 9, 1888, fate
would have Mary Jane Kelly brutally attacked at her place of residence and subsequently murdered
and mutilated beyond imagination. The most likely suspect was the increasingly bloodthirsty and
still anonymous killer dubbed Jack the Ripper. Nearly 130 years later, forensic science and
criminology experts have failed to agree on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Hopefully, through
psychological, geographical and genetic profiling, a better perspective of who

In the year 1888, Whitechapel of London was targeted in a stream of ferocious murders so explicit
that it grew to a response that came from all of Victorian England. The media, police investigators
and local civilians were deeply impacted upon these occurrences in several ways. Jack The Ripper is
to this day infamously known as the killer of at least 5 female prostitutes in the span of only one

The term 'Lipski' was a known insult to the Jews of the East End, and Abberline would have been
aware of this as it was used in reference to Israel Lipski's murder of Miriam Angel in 1887. This
meant that the prospect of one Jew addressing another by the term 'Lipski' was extremely unlikely.)
Why he's so infamous.
To this day, Jack the Ripper is still infamously recognised as the brutal murderer of at least 5
victims. With such great attention by the media, he was able to cause a dramatic fright to the
civilians and have his name voiced throughout Victorian England. Even today, many scholars are
seduced by the prospect of uncovering identity of the man behind one of the most infamous
whodunits in history.

79. Was Jack the Ripper a Woman?
Mysteries have been going unsolved for years and puzzling minds across the globe. Serial killers
give the most controversial mysteries, especially cold cases in which the killers have never been
identified. One of the more infamous serial killers, Jack the Ripper, has been fascinating but
horrifying investigators since the first victim was discovered. But what if Jack the ripper was not a
Jack at all, but rather Lizzie the Ripper? New evidence has shed some light on this case and states
that it would make more sense if it was a woman instead of a man. First and foremost, the name
Jack the Ripper was actually not given by the media or other investigators. The infamous name
"Jack the Ripper" actually came from a letter that was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Thomas Bond was the pathologist assigned to the case when the first victim had been
discovered; he stated that "it would have been six inches long, pointed at the top, and about an inch
thick," (Enoch "Jacqueline the Ripper? New book claims Britain's most notorious serial killer was
actually a WOMAN), it being the knife that Lizzie would have used to carve up her victims. This
would allow the murderer to slice the women's throat from the right to the left and she would be able
to avoid a good amount of the blood spatter if the victim was still alive. Though the victim's clothes
had been rearranged but there was never any sign of sexual intercourse; it would make sense that it
was a midwife that was out for revenge. Since Lizzie was infertile herself, the revenge she took out
on women would add to the fact that Lizzie was unable to cope with reality. Not only did she target
women that were street walkers but were also around the age of Lizzie herself. The victims were all
tied to Lizzie Williams because of what was missing when the bodies were found. Lizzie the Ripper
was known for taking a trophy from each of her victims, the viscera or the internal organs such as
the intestines, stomach, and even the heart. Lizzie showed her extensive anatomical knowledge by
removing a kidney from the front of the victim without damaging any other organs. In another
victim, she had
