Scott Peterson
Laci Peterson, a 27–year–old wife who was eight months pregnant, disappeared on December 24,
2002. When the body of the California woman and her unborn child were found four months later,
her husband, Scott, was charged with two counts of murder. Detective Craig Grogan gave a sworn
statement that he had probable cause to believe Mr. Peterson committed two counts of the crime of
187 Penal Code, homicide, on or about December 23 or 24 of 2002, in the county of Stanislaus.
April 17, 2003 the Judge of the Superior Court in Stanislaus County, California issued a warrant for
the arrest of Scott Lee Peterson. The court found that the District Attorney's office did, in fact, have
probable cause to bring Scott Peterson in. The Judge specifically ... Show more content on

Quotes From 'To Kill A Mocking Bird'
In my opinion the most important aspect of the novel," To Kill a Mocking Bird" is that it shows the
importance of understanding others. The novel urges us to understand others and to show
compassion towards the people around us. Skype McDonald– Professor of Clinical
Neuropsychology, UNSW in her article Explainer: how we understand people and why it's
important. Social cognition is our ability to understand other people, and it enables us to predict
their behaviour and share experiences. It's also critical to understanding the many nuances
underpinning everyday speech, because people frequently mean something different to what they
actually say. "When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen." ― Ernest Hemingway

In Lee's novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, the author characterized Boo Radley in a way that paralleled
Maya Angelou, showing how their expanding perspective of prejudice lead to their aspiration to
overcome false beliefs created by ignorant people. In Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the author
utilized the theme of an expanding perspective to show how Boo Radley was prompted to show Jem
and Scout that the town of Maycomb's opinion of him was wrong. First, Boo Radley expanded his
perspective by taking an interest in Jem and Scout and leaving them gifts, such as gum and Indian
head pennies, in the knothole of the Radley lot's oak tree (Lee 44–81). Boo Radley showed Jem and
Scout, through these gestures of kindness, that he was a gentle human looking for a friend as
opposed to the vicious threat, told by Maycomb's rumors. In addition, though he did not speak to
people as the typical person would, by giving gifts to Jem and Scout, the Finch children were able to
see that he was communicating to them in a way that he knew how, a way that spoke louder than
words that he longed for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, both Boo Radley and Maya Angelou went through a traumatizing experience that caused a
disability. Through these disabilities, both of their perspectives on prejudice were expanded. This
expanding perspective caused Boo Radley and Maya Angelou to want to disprove society's pre
judged opinion that their disabilities caused weaknesses. Furthermore, Boo Radley and Maya
Angelou both confided in specific people, which helped them cope with their trauma and
disabilities. Communicating with these special people disproved other's opinions that Boo Radley
and Maya Angelou were incapable of real relationships. Even further shown, this aspiration to
overcome people's prejudice toward them ultimately lead to them both stepping boldly out of their

Review Of ' The Sky ! ' It 's A Bird
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a comic shop retailer trying to gain consumers'
business! During an era when the world economy is still recovering from the mortgage crisis and
minimum wage is not sufficient to help most citizens support and maintain their respective
households, it can be hard to justify frivolous, unnecessary spending. However, those who can
afford to self–indulge a bit may choose to take up a hobby such as comic book reading or collecting.
Even people who decide that they are willing and able to spend a few extra dollars here and there to
pursue something they love must be able to choose wisely so as to avoid suffering from buyer's
remorse. It is essential that readers use criteria such as price point, publishers, characters, genre, and
creators to sift through the wide variety of comic books in order to determine which ones they feel
are truly worth their hard–earned cash. As tends to be the case with anything people buy, price
matters. Miller (2016) tells us that the average price of a new comic book in August of 2016 is
$3.99. Additionally, according to the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, a single issue of any given
comic book is 32 pages long, with about 20–24 of those pages filled with actual story content and
the remainder with advertisements (2012). There are some exceptions to these rules, but for the most
part anyone expecting to purchase as few as ten comics per month should be prepared to pay a little
over $40 after taxes.

Amber recalled one conversation that was centered on the importance of trust in relationships.
During that conversation Scott confirmed to Amber that he had never been married. (Frey, 2005) On

Scout In To Kill A Mockingbird
Character Analysis of Scout from "To Kill A Mockingbird" (Details from Part One)
In this world, there are many classic sources of literature. Whether it be "The Great Gatsby" by F.
Scott Fitzgerald, or "Gone With the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell, these classic pieces teach us lots
about their characters and their growth over time. One classic example of literature, "To Kill A
Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, is especially good at this. In "To Kill A Mockingbird", Lee
characterizes the protagonist Scout by showing how she does not conform to or care for stereotypes,
has a bad temper and is vindictive, and by showing that although Scout is intelligent, she still lacks
maturity. Firstly, Lee characterizes Scout by showing she does not conform ... Show more content

Her intelligence is first shown on page 7, where Jem says "'Scout yonder's been readin' ever since
she was born, and she ain't even started to school yet'". Most kids can not read before entering
school, let alone being able to use the dialogue that child Scout uses throughout this novel.
However, even though Scout is unquestionably intelligent, she still lacks maturity. This is seen on
page 6, when Scout asked Dill about his father. Scout says "'Then if he's not dead you've got one,
haven't you?'". This is not a question to be asked when first meeting someone. To be that intrusive
and to already be calling someone out upon first meeting them shows one lacks maturity and the
social knowledge one gains when they grow. The way she matter–of–factly told Dill he was wrong
about his own life just shows that she just is not developed enough to understand the negativity in
her actions. Additionally, on page 90, Uncle Jack asks Scout "'You use words like damn and hell,
don't you?". The usage of these profane words is to express extreme annoyance, and even though
these words are used in everyday life, the use of them still shows that the user is immature. In
Scout's case, she doesn't know the meaning or power of these words, so she is portrayed as even
more ignorant for using

Comic Books : Characters In Society
Throughout the years comic books have become the beacon of hope civilization needed to overcome
the toughest of times. From the Civil war to Nuclear Warfare heroes were created for the purpose of
keeping children's happiness from fainting into darkness. Batman, Superman, Thor, Hulk and She–
Thor were the beacon of light of my childhood and the reason why I dreamt about a better
civilization. "You humans slaughter each other because of the color of your skin, or your faith, or
your politics, or for no reason at all, too many of you hate easily as you draw breath"–Magneto. This
quote was once said by the strongest villain in comic book history as he described humans in the
war against Mutans.
Comic books have the power to make even famous of people realize how amazing they are as
Nicolas Cage described "Are modern mythology, they reflect our fears, embody our ideals, and
personalized our culture." Our civilization has created movies, books, action figures and tv shows as
they ingrained comic books into our everyday culture. We identify heroes by their persona as we
have become to known Superman "as the man of steel" and Batman " as the Dark Knight" these
characters have paved the way for new beginnings, ideals that weren't imaginable at the time they
were created.
Movies have the power to inspire us, create dreams but also change someone's views. I want you to
ask yourself why do movies inspire us? How can they make us believe in something that's not real?

Examples Of Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird
"You never really know a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" Atticus Finch;
To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee, Coretta Scott King, and Gwendolyn Brooks show how
important the topic of inequality is as the main characters and people of focus are dehumanized and
rejected from society due to their differences. First, in the 50s, whites were held about people of
colour, seen as superior, and blacks being seen as less than human. An example of literature that
inequality can be examined in is the bestselling novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout the book,
Tom Robinson, a man who had only ever helped people who needed it, was accused of raping a
white woman. The claim arose due to wanting attention. Given the time, everyone took the woman's
word even though evidence proved otherwise. Had Tom Robinson not been a person of colour, this
likely would have went differently. Accusations such as these were fairly common against blacks at
the time. Another example is seen in the churches in the story. When Scout goes to Calpurnia's
church, she sees that the black church is far less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the article first brings up, on public transport, such as busses, black were always made to sit in
the back. This way, whites could sit in the front of the bus and get off sooner. If no seats were
available, blacks had to stand and give up their seats so whites could be comfortable. It wasn't only
public transport this happened however. It was also seen in water fountains and restaurants; certain
areas being designated for blacks. Those areas usually lacked luxuries that areas for whites had and
sometimes even lacked basic sanitation. With this unfairness, people, predominantly black,
boycotted busses and even went to places meant for whites. However, whites hated blacks so much
that those who went to the whites' areas were arrested, beaten, and sometimes

Pompeii, By Janet Scott Batchler And Lee Batchler
The film that I selected for this film review is Pompeii, a 2014 historical disaster movie that was
directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and written by Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler. The movie
was adapted from a 2003 book with the same title that was written by Robert Harris. I chose
Pompeii because I heard about the devastating event that took place in the ancient Roman city in
various television programs and books. As a result, I wanted to learn more about the event and the
daily life of Pompeii before the volcanic eruption occurred. I thought that watching the movie would
give me insight about Pompeii and the ancient Roman civilization. In addition, I also chose this film
because it features talented actors such as Kit Harington, Adewale Akinnuoye–Agbaje, Carrie–Anne
Moss, and Emily Browning. The historical context of Pompeii is the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79
CE that did significant damage to the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum, a town northwest of
Pompeii. Before the eruption, Pompeii was an important and lively city filled with thousands of
inhabitants. According to Dorothy Hinshaw Patent, the author of Lost City of Pompeii, a book that
has detailed information on the city, states, "Estimates of its population run from 6,400 to 30,000 ,
but most experts think that between 8,000 and 12,000 people lived there year–round" (Patent 14).

Wal–Mart is a company that leads its industry in numerous areas. The areas which impress are the
accomplishments the company has made. "About 140 million people in 11 countries shopped at

Less impressive is the company being involved in over 6000 active lawsuits and what seems to be a

Symbolism In To Kill A Mockingbird
" I'd rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you'll go after birds. Shoot all the
bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." [p.119] In the
novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this issue is mentioned various times. There are three
mockingbirds, Mayella Ewell, Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. In order to categorize them as
mockingbirds, the reader has to know what a mockingbird is. So what does it mean to be a
mockingbird? A mockingbird symbolizes innocence, thus the character has to have the personality
characteristic of purity. As Miss Maudie says, " Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for

childishness, when you think about it, she's not the only childmind like mockingbird. With Boo
Radley not only is he innocent but his actions are innocent too. For instance, during the fire when he
gives Scott a blanket so that she won't get a cold, it shows that he obviously cares about them. Boo
has protected them ever since the book started. Even though, according to the book he's more than
30, he still has a child mentality which means anything he does is innocent. He doesn't know. Like,
although the book suggests that he was the one who killed Bob Ewell, he wasn't blamed because, the
officer makes it clear that what he says happened is exactly was happened. He says, " ... To my way

committed a crime, but in the officer's eyes he's innocent in a way where it's innocent enough to
convince him that it's not worth mentioning that he was even there. Unfortunately, Tom Robinson

Allegory Of Mrs. Dubose
Jared Crane Mid Term Essay Intro to Literature 2200 Instructor: Russell Burrows October 4, 2017 A
close reading of Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose. Mrs. Dubose is an allegory that is found throughout
To Kill A Mocking Bird. People cannot be judged on first impressions; if we scratch the surface
we'll find that they are better or worse than first thought. They may have redeeming qualities or
skeletons in their closets. Mrs. Dubose was first seen as a grouchy, sharp tongued racist who was
steeped in traditionalism. As the story progresses she transforms into a resilient fighter, full of
courage. Scout see's Mrs. Dubose as the mean old lady up the street (39). She refers to her age as
"...close on to a hundred..." (103). When Jem and Scouts fixation on Boo Radley ended and they
wanted to venture downtown, they couldn't avoid Mrs. Dubose's house anymore. They could have
walked around, but it would have added an extra mile to their trip and they had to grow up sometime
(114). Mrs. Dubose is a Southern institution down to her name. The name Dubose has French
origins, it means by or in a wood. The Name Henry is also French, but it has noble origins. The
Normans introduced the name to England and it was used by eight kings, ending with Henry VIII.
Lafayette, another French name, means birch tree and flatterer in England. It's very ironic that a

Lee Scott 's That Deadman Dance Begins With Bobby...
Kim Scott's That Deadman Dance begins with Bobby Wabalanginy's poetic imagination illustrating
the Australian ocean shore (Scott, 1–5). Throughout the whole novel, the landscapes of Australia are
described by an Aboriginal entertainer, Bobby, who tells his story through the eyes of both the
natives and British settlers, depicting two very different portraits of the land; a bountiful home and a
deadly unknown place. Similarly, Kate Greenville's Secret River describes Australia as a harsh
environment in the point–of–view of her protagonist; a reluctant colonist called William Thornhill.
This essay will focus on the descriptions of Australian landscapes in the views of two different
communities: of the inhabitants of this land and of the new settlers, and how this influences their
interaction with living in this country. Then, it will discuss how appropriation of the land by the
British colonists influenced the environment and how the settlements affected both the settlers and
the natives.
For the men who came from 'over the horizon' (Kim Scott, 61), the Australian landscape was vast
and yet Gothic–it was a strange, harsh environment.
At the start of That Deadman Dance, when the Chaine family first arrives to Australia, the land is
described as if to dominate them. The rocks "rose majestically from the sea", some "balanced high
above, some perversely shaped", and "ready to roll" and crush the boat. "The passengers looked
around nervously, wanting to recognize the scent of

The, The Gray Ghost, By Harper Lee
Completing the Puzzle
Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel about a young girl growing up in the racist South, tests
one's ethics and delves into some of the more profound human principles. The story of Maycomb, a
sleepy Southern town, is rooted with the values, lessons, and symbolism of Harper Lee. Throughout
the novel Harper Lee pays attention to even the smallest details, making sure that all writing has a
purpose. That said, there are three books that Harper Lee mentions: Ivanhoe, The Gray Ghost, and
Blackstone's Commentaries. Although seemingly insignificant, the books that appear in To Kill a
Mockingbird have symbolic and very much significant meanings, reinforcing what has been written,
revealing parts of the novel, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Dubose won... She was the bravest person I ever knew" (149). Atticus is subtly telling the story
of Ivanhoe, reinforcing the struggles of both Mrs. Dubose and Wilfred of Ivanhoe. Ultimately, these
characters act courageously, and despite not being accepted originally, regain the respect of their
doubters as their true nature shows through. Blackstone's Commentaries, one of the most important
books on British Law (as well as an important influence on American Law), was written by Sir
William Blackstone in an attempt to allow common folk to read and understand the law. Calpurnia
briefly mentions the book while Jem and Scout are wondering how she and her son, Zeebo, learned
to read and write, explaining that Blackstone's Commentaries is influential in her ability to speak
"proper" English., "Jem was thunderstruck... 'That's why you don't talk like the rest of 'em'" (166–
167). Jem comes to this realization after Calpurnia's explanation, and understands what
distinguishes her speech from that of other African–Americans of Maycomb. Although not made
explicit in her writing, Harper Lee intends for Blackstone's Commentaries to be interpreted directly

Atticus Finch and the White Savior Trope
Harper Lee's classic bildungsroman novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, is a staple in many high school
curricula. It is an excellent and informative read, but not for the reasons most White educators
believe. This story was ultimately written by, for, and about White people. By showcasing Atticus
Finch's heroism and nobility, Lee crafts a novel that degrades Black characters and perpetuates
White savior stereotypes. Although it is still a valuable tool for exploring moral development, To
Kill a Mockingbird strips Black characters of their agency and is thus an ineffective critique of
racism.

Even when viewed through the harshest lens, To Kill a Mockingbird is ineffective but not useless as
a critique on race. Despite its problems, the novel can trigger stimulating conversation and provide a
gentle introduction to race theory for inexperienced White readers. It may be most effective as a
critique on race when read alongside similar works by well–regarded Black authors: Toni Morrison,
Ralph Ellison, and Alice Walker, to name just a few. Because race is obviously not just a "black and
white" issue, students will also likely benefit from reading many authors of color who are not Black.
Where To Kill a Mockingbird fails on racial issues, it succeeds on illustrating a variety of moral

The novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee is set in the South during the Great Depression.
Scout, the main character, has a brother name Jem and a friend name Dill. She is almost six years

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
"Human beings are poor examiners, subject to superstition, bias, prejudice, and a profound tendency
to see what they want to see rather than what is really there" ~ Scott Peck. Harper Lee's novel To
Kill A Mockingbird abounds with the injustice produced by social, gender, and racial prejudice. The
setting of the book takes place in the 1930s, where racism is a big deal in society. In the novel
Harper Lee uses a mockingbird as an analogy to the characters. The Mockingbird is a symbol for
Three Characters in the book, Atticus Finch, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley. The people of
Maycomb only know Boo Radley and Tom Robinson by what others say about them. These
Characters are then characterized by other people 's viewpoints. In the novel there are many themes
that are adjacent to our lives, the one that is found in To Kill A Mockingbird is Human Conflict
comes from the inability for one to understand another. " You never understand a person until you
consider things from his point of view– until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." (39)
Atticus Finch is one of the first characters introduced to us in the book. He is also one of the most

Characteristics Of Southern Literature In To Kill A...
The Features of Southern Literature that have the most effect on the life decisions characters in To
Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, take part in, can be debatable. Certain Features of Southern
Literature greatly affects characters in Harper Lee's inspiring piece. She expresses traumatic actions
in the characters throughout her novel because of these certain features. These three features are the
most relevant features in the act of shaping heroes in To Kill A Mockingbird because of the impact
they have on the lives of those in TKAM. Calpurnia, a character in said novel portrays certain
aspects of an unlikely hero, as a result of the influence of her family and community, the effect of
race relationships correlating with her, and the impact of her loyalty towards others.
Throughout the story, Calpurnia Shows loyalty in the means of taking responsible risks, and helping
others, which are qualities that any true hero portrays. In To kill A Mockingbird, Calpurnia is viewed
as not only a hero but also as a friend. Although some might say Calpurnia is a slave to the French
family, they accept her as more of a family member because of her loyalty to them, "'She's a faithful
member of this family'" (182). We can see that Calpurnia has faced many hardships including those
of stereotypes, racism, Chandler is on, etc. Though, she does have many Constance, one of them
being her loyalty. She remains oil and looks out for people, never letting them down. For example
rather than saving herself when the mad dog came walking down the street, she persistently tried
warning to others, and she succeeded, "Calpurnia's message has been received by the neighborhood"
(124).
Calpurnia not only shows loyalty, but she is also expressed as an unlikely hero because of her
actions toward people of different races then her own. She continues to get along with, and treats,
everyone fairly no matter the color of their skin. "She has been with us ever since Jem was two" (7).
This shows how Calpurnia, and African American woman, is raising a child. To her, it doesn't matter
what color the child skin is. What does matter to her, is that he is a human. Another instance and
where Calpurnia's actions affect her character, is

Analysis Of Lee 's ' The Great Gatsby ' By F. Scott...
At the age of 1 to 16, there is one odd girl who had turned my world upside down. Daphne Lee was
born on February 5th, 1997. She lived in Colorado with her parents and little brother. From the

Even during the summer, she will wear them with her sandals. Nothing looks wrong with her feet,
she just really loves socks. They are not the ordinary kinds of socks, though. Sadly they are the
kiddy kind. She has two drawers filled entirely with them. From my perspective, it seems like she
has enough to last her for two years. Periodically she chooses to speak a different language. One day
she speaks English, the next day Spanish, etc. and gibberish eventually. Her taste in music is very
interesting because she seemed like the kind of person who liked happy songs, but she actually likes
very dark music such as metal and screamo. My cousin is very different from our other relatives I
have met, yet that is what I like about her.
In public, she gets really crazy. Not just a little crazy but hyper crazy. She is constantly up and
about. She is not afraid to blare her music for the whole world to hear. People are usually looking
over their shoulders, their attention to the creepy dancing ballerina bunny. I try to keep my distance.
When there is candy involved, there is more crazy to come. She gets as mad as a hatter; Singing,
skipping, hopping, and running around in circles. When nonsense talking becomes involved, I
usually speed walk to the car while she runs to catch up to me with her bunny ears flopping up and
down. The positive side of this crazy girl is that people get to have a good laugh. Her feelings will

To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
In this breathtaking novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, all of my expectations were hit and
more; when reading a story about racism and injustice in the world I learned that the world is in
worse shape then I thought. Atticus Finch is a white defense lawyer, who defends a black man that
has been accused of raping a white woman. Atticus has two young children; Jem, and Jean (Scout)
who are growing up in a society where the color of your skin and the differences you have affect
your life. The death of our loved ones brings grief and sadness into our lives, and Murder can be
especially hard on the families of those we have lost. In today's society we have experienced many
shootings in the past couple of years, many of which shouldn't have occurred. The murders of

The reasons for exploration in the novel's larger questions takes place within the own perspectives
of the children in which the education of children is necessarily involved in the specific
development of all of the novel's natural themes. The role of education is important and apparent in
the entire book. Towards the beginning of the book, Scout is getting ready to start the first grade and
shows that she is excited for this, however after school starts, she alters her opinion on it and hates
it. The school system is starting a new system for the students. Scout has been guided how to read

small town named Maycomb, Alabama. The general subject matter of the book focuses on the racial
bigotry that was prevalent in society during the great depression. This is exemplified by the
treatment of fourteen–year–old black youth, named Tom Robinson, that was accused of raping a
white woman, Mayella Ewell, and forced to seek legal defense, during a time when society believed
that if a black man did anything to a white woman, he was guilty no matter what. The underlying

Gregory Peck, and Jean Louise "Scout" Finch, played by actress Mary Badham. In addition, special
mention must be made to the actor James Anderson and actress Collin Wilcox Paxton, for their
portrayals of Bob Ewell and his daughter Mayella Ewell. Furthermore, actor Brock Peters rendered

Examples Of Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird
"You never really know a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" Atticus Finch;
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

public transport this happened however. It was also seen in water fountains and restaurants; certain
areas being designated for blacks. Those areas usually lacked luxuries that areas for whites had and
sometimes even lacked basic sanitation. With this unfairness, people, predominantly black,

with a sash, general's sword, hat, white gloves, and shined boots. Grant on the other hand always
look disheveled. He wore a simple private's uniform with general insignia added on, complete with a
jacket that looked slept in. Many people accredit this look saying that "His mind was too busy on
winning the war than on looking presentable." His personal account of how he came to this shows
more, "I was impatient to get on my uniform and see how it looked, and probably wanted my old
school–mates, particularly the girls, to see me in it. The conceit was knocked out of me by two little
circumstances that happened soon after the arrival of the clothes, which gave me a distaste for
military uniform that I never recovered from." Being presentable was something

American Born Chinese Themes
'American Born Chinese' by Gene Luen Yang is a graphic novel broken up into three individual
stories but all tie together at the end. It discusses race, puberty, friendship and tradition all while
exploring the identity of growing up a minority. Through the struggles portrayed in beautiful images
that, while detailed, maintain their simplicity. This book reminded me of 'Scott Pligrim Versus the
World' by Brian Lee O'Malley with it's art style and pacing. This book evoked several reactions in
me, both confused and pained. A common theme through each story is being called names. The
Monkey King is so hurt by the Gods excluding him and calling him a monkey (even though he is
one) that he rebrands himself as the Great Sage, Equal of Heaven and plans revenge on all the ...

All of them come together in the very end where Jin gets his head pulled out of his ass and told by
the Monkey King to go make amends with his best friend, who took his insult of "FOB" to heart and
became an Asian gangster complete with a souped–up sports car and a bass so low dogs in the area
become alerted of his presence. This brings every perspective we see to a fluid story and at the very
end when the Monkey King asks Jin to remind his former best friend of right and wrong then
whimsically tells him that he wishes he appreciated his Monkey self sooner before floating away on
a cloud. Jin waits every night, for a month, inside a boba shop Wei–Chen passes by frequently.
When he finally sees him, Jin apologizes and tells him that he spoke with Wei–Chens dad, which
reminds him of his humble roots. They then make up and become friends again showing that

Analysis of WalMart's Approach To Employee Management...
In the past it was noted by Snell, Youngy and Wright (1996:62) that organisations would purposely
'take human resource out of the strategic equation'. Today it is widely accepted that linking HR to
strategy because of a shift in ideas concerning competition and firm advantage (Snell, Shauder and
Wright (2001:3)). This shift was identified by Quin (1992:241) "with rare exceptions, the economic
and producing power of the firm lies more in its intellectual and service capabilities than in its hard
assets"
Wal–Mart are aware of this and so by examining Wal–Marts practices using the 'best fit' perceptive
will give a better understanding as to why they have adopted their various practices by linking them
to their key organisational strategy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also ensure employees only work enough hours to count as 'part–time' employees so Wal–Mart
does not have to contribute towards health care costs.
Wal–Mart's stance on not allowing unions can also be accredited to their cost leadership approach.
When I outline Wal–Mart's business policy at the start of this essay, I suggest that they were a
central–control based organisation that tried to ensure it controlled all aspects of the firm. This is
linked to cost leadership, by having tight control they know exactly where money is going and
where it is coming from which allows for better development of efficiency.
This notion of control is especially noticeable on their management of employees, for example
through such action as cutting hours, understaffing, minimum wage levels and stopping overtime. If
they were to allow a Union to be formed then employees would be able to group together to try and
abolishes they tools. For example workers in Unions at other supermarkets earn approxiamtly 30%
more then non–union workers as Wal–Mart,(Bureau of labour Statistics (2004) and 72% of union
workers have guaranteed pension schemes whereas only 15% of non–union employees (such as
those at Wal–Mart) have the same sort of deal. Wal–Mart can use these tools to control their staff
because of the poor labour laws in America (Miller (2004)).
This 'external fit' notion has been criticised because

The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay
Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah
Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature
has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history,
comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew,
changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with
it.
Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic
artist ("Comics Theory"). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which
was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The
Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in
America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in
America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the
United States (Töpffer 2014).
Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted
(Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the
"Funnies", the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ("Comic Theory"). His debut
led to an explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips
in 1897.

The novel urges us to understand others and to show compassion towards the people around us. Skype McDonald– Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology, UNSW in her article Explainer: how we understand people and why it's important. Social cognition is our ability to understand other people, and it enables us to predict their behaviour and share experiences. It's also critical to understanding the many nuances underpinning everyday speech, because people frequently mean something different to what they actually say. "When people talk, listen completely. • 5. Boo Radley In Lee's Novel 'To Kill A Mockingbird' Isabella Scott Mr. Abney English 9CP Per. 3 6 December 6, 2014 Essay In Lee's novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, the author characterized Boo Radley in a way that paralleled Maya Angelou, showing how their expanding perspective of prejudice lead to their aspiration to overcome false beliefs created by ignorant people. In Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the author utilized the theme of an expanding perspective to show how Boo Radley was prompted to show Jem and Scout that the town of Maycomb's opinion of him was wrong. First, Boo Radley expanded his perspective by taking an interest in Jem and Scout and leaving them gifts, such as gum and Indian head pennies, in the knothole of the Radley lot's oak tree (Lee 44–81). Boo Radley showed Jem and Scout, through these gestures of kindness, that he was a gentle human looking for a friend as opposed to the vicious threat, told by Maycomb's rumors. In addition, though he did not speak to people as the typical person would, by giving gifts to Jem and Scout, the Finch children were able to see that he was communicating to them in a way that he knew how, a way that spoke louder than words that he longed for a ... Furthermore, Boo Radley and Maya Angelou both confided in specific people, which helped them cope with their trauma and disabilities. Communicating with these special people disproved other's opinions that Boo Radley and Maya Angelou were incapable of real relationships. • 7. Review Of ' The Sky ! ' It 's A Bird Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a comic shop retailer trying to gain consumers' business! During an era when the world economy is still recovering from the mortgage crisis and minimum wage is not sufficient to help most citizens support and maintain their respective households, it can be hard to justify frivolous, unnecessary spending. However, those who can afford to self–indulge a bit may choose to take up a hobby such as comic book reading or collecting. Even people who decide that they are willing and able to spend a few extra dollars here and there to pursue something they love must be able to choose wisely so as to avoid suffering from buyer's remorse. It is essential that readers use criteria such as price point, publishers, characters, genre, and creators to sift through the wide variety of comic books in order to determine which ones they feel are truly worth their hard–earned cash. As tends to be the case with anything people buy, price matters. Miller (2016) tells us that the average price of a new comic book in August of 2016 is $3.99. Additionally, according to the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, a single issue of any given comic book is 32 pages long, with about 20–24 of those pages filled with actual story content and the remainder with advertisements (2012). There are some exceptions to these rules, but for the most part anyone expecting to purchase as few as ten comics per month should be prepared to pay a little over $40 after taxes. ... • 11. Scout In To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis of Scout from "To Kill A Mockingbird" (Details from Part One) In this world, there are many classic sources of literature. Whether it be "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, or "Gone With the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell, these classic pieces teach us lots about their characters and their growth over time. One classic example of literature, "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, is especially good at this. In "To Kill A Mockingbird", Lee characterizes the protagonist Scout by showing how she does not conform to or care for stereotypes, has a bad temper and is vindictive, and by showing that although Scout is intelligent, she still lacks maturity. Firstly, Lee characterizes Scout by showing she does not conform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her intelligence is first shown on page 7, where Jem says "'Scout yonder's been readin' ever since she was born, and she ain't even started to school yet'". However, even though Scout is unquestionably intelligent, she still lacks maturity. This is seen on page 6, when Scout asked Dill about his father. Scout says "'Then if he's not dead you've got one, haven't you?'". This is not a question to be asked when first meeting someone. To be that intrusive and to already be calling someone out upon first meeting them shows one lacks maturity and the social knowledge one gains when they grow. The way she matter–of–factly told Dill he was wrong about his own life just shows that she just is not developed enough to understand the negativity in her actions. Additionally, on page 90, Uncle Jack asks Scout "'You use words like damn and hell, don't you?". The usage of these profane words is to express extreme annoyance, and even though these words are used in everyday life, the use of them still shows that the user is immature. In Scout's case, she doesn't know the meaning or power of these words, so she is portrayed as even more ignorant for using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the Civil war to Nuclear Warfare heroes were created for the purpose of keeping children's happiness from fainting into darkness. Batman, Superman, Thor, Hulk and She– Thor were the beacon of light of my childhood and the reason why I dreamt about a better civilization. "You humans slaughter each other because of the color of your skin, or your faith, or your politics, or for no reason at all, too many of you hate easily as you draw breath"–Magneto. This quote was once said by the strongest villain in comic book history as he described humans in the war against Mutans. Comic books have the power to make even famous of people realize how amazing they are as Nicolas Cage described "Are modern mythology, they reflect our fears, embody our ideals, and personalized our culture." Our civilization has created movies, books, action figures and tv shows as they ingrained comic books into our everyday culture. We identify heroes by their persona as we have become to known Superman "as the man of steel" and Batman " as the Dark Knight" these characters have paved the way for new beginnings, ideals that weren't imaginable at the time they were created. • 15. Examples Of Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird "You never really know a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" Atticus Finch; To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee, Coretta Scott King, and Gwendolyn Brooks show how important the topic of inequality is as the main characters and people of focus are dehumanized and rejected from society due to their differences. First, in the 50s, whites were held about people of colour, seen as superior, and blacks being seen as less than human. An example of literature that inequality can be examined in is the bestselling novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout the book, Tom Robinson, a man who had only ever helped people who needed it, was accused of raping a white woman. The claim arose due to wanting attention. Given the time, everyone took the woman's word even though evidence proved otherwise. Had Tom Robinson not been a person of colour, this likely would have went differently. Accusations such as these were fairly common against blacks at the time. Another example is seen in the churches in the story. When Scout goes to Calpurnia's church, she sees that the black church is far less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also seen in water fountains and restaurants; certain areas being designated for blacks. Those areas usually lacked luxuries that areas for whites had and sometimes even lacked basic sanitation. With this unfairness, people, predominantly black, boycotted busses and even went to places meant for whites. Anderson and written by Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler. The movie was adapted from a 2003 book with the same title that was written by Robert Harris. I chose Pompeii because I heard about the devastating event that took place in the ancient Roman city in various television programs and books. As a result, I wanted to learn more about the event and the daily life of Pompeii before the volcanic eruption occurred. I thought that watching the movie would give me insight about Pompeii and the ancient Roman civilization. In addition, I also chose this film because it features talented actors such as Kit Harington, Adewale Akinnuoye–Agbaje, Carrie–Anne Moss, and Emily Browning. The historical context of Pompeii is the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE that did significant damage to the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum, a town northwest of Pompeii. Before the eruption, Pompeii was an important and lively city filled with thousands of inhabitants. According to Dorothy Hinshaw Patent, the author of Lost City of Pompeii, a book that has detailed information on the city, states, "Estimates of its population run from 6,400 to 30,000 , but most experts think that between 8,000 and 12,000 people lived there year–round" (Patent 14). Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." [p.119] In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this issue is mentioned various times. There are three mockingbirds, Mayella Ewell, Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. In order to categorize them as mockingbirds, the reader has to know what a mockingbird is. So what does it mean to be a mockingbird? A mockingbird symbolizes innocence, thus the character has to have the personality characteristic of purity. Even though, according to the book he's more than 30, he still has a child mentality which means anything he does is innocent. He doesn't know. • 31. Allegory Of Mrs. Dubose Jared Crane Mid Term Essay Intro to Literature 2200 Instructor: Russell Burrows October 4, 2017 A close reading of Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose. Mrs. Dubose is an allegory that is found throughout To Kill A Mocking Bird. People cannot be judged on first impressions; if we scratch the surface we'll find that they are better or worse than first thought. They may have redeeming qualities or skeletons in their closets. Mrs. Dubose was first seen as a grouchy, sharp tongued racist who was steeped in traditionalism. As the story progresses she transforms into a resilient fighter, full of courage. Scout see's Mrs. Dubose as the mean old lady up the street (39). She refers to her age as "...close on to a hundred..." (103). When Jem and Scouts fixation on Boo Radley ended and they wanted to venture downtown, they couldn't avoid Mrs. Dubose's house anymore. They could have walked around, but it would have added an extra mile to their trip and they had to grow up sometime (114). Mrs. Dubose is a Southern institution down to her name. The name Dubose has French origins, it means by or in a wood. The Name Henry is also French, but it has noble origins. The Normans introduced the name to England and it was used by eight kings, ending with Henry VIII. Lafayette, another French name, means birch tree and flatterer in England. • 33. Lee Scott 's That Deadman Dance Begins With Bobby... Kim Scott's That Deadman Dance begins with Bobby Wabalanginy's poetic imagination illustrating the Australian ocean shore (Scott, 1–5). Throughout the whole novel, the landscapes of Australia are described by an Aboriginal entertainer, Bobby, who tells his story through the eyes of both the natives and British settlers, depicting two very different portraits of the land; a bountiful home and a deadly unknown place. Similarly, Kate Greenville's Secret River describes Australia as a harsh environment in the point–of–view of her protagonist; a reluctant colonist called William Thornhill. This essay will focus on the descriptions of Australian landscapes in the views of two different communities: of the inhabitants of this land and of the new settlers, and how this influences their interaction with living in this country. Then, it will discuss how appropriation of the land by the British colonists influenced the environment and how the settlements affected both the settlers and the natives. For the men who came from 'over the horizon' (Kim Scott, 61), the Australian landscape was vast and yet Gothic–it was a strange, harsh environment. At the start of That Deadman Dance, when the Chaine family first arrives to Australia, the land is described as if to dominate them. The story of Maycomb, a sleepy Southern town, is rooted with the values, lessons, and symbolism of Harper Lee. Blackstone's Commentaries, one of the most important books on British Law (as well as an important influence on American Law), was written by Sir William Blackstone in an attempt to allow common folk to read and understand the law. Calpurnia briefly mentions the book while Jem and Scout are wondering how she and her son, Zeebo, learned to read and write, explaining that Blackstone's Commentaries is influential in her ability to speak "proper" English., "Jem was thunderstruck... Jem comes to this realization after Calpurnia's explanation, and understands what distinguishes her speech from that of other African–Americans of Maycomb. Although not made explicit in her writing, Harper Lee intends for Blackstone's Commentaries to be interpreted directly as an object symbolizing the law. As a result, the factor that differentiates Calpurnia and Zeebo from other African–Americans is not that they are literate and have the ability to speak proper English, but that they know the law. The setting of the book takes place in the 1930s, where racism is a big deal in society. In the novel Harper Lee uses a mockingbird as an analogy to the characters. Although some might say Calpurnia is a slave to the French family, they accept her as more of a family member because of her loyalty to them, "'She's a faithful member of this family'" (182). We can see that Calpurnia has faced many hardships including those of stereotypes, racism, Chandler is on, etc. Though, she does have many Constance, one of them being her loyalty. She remains oil and looks out for people, never letting them down. For example rather than saving herself when the mad dog came walking down the street, she persistently tried warning to others, and she succeeded, "Calpurnia's message has been received by the neighborhood" (124). Calpurnia not only shows loyalty, but she is also expressed as an unlikely hero because of her actions toward people of different races then her own. She continues to get along with, and treats, everyone fairly no matter the color of their skin. "She has been with us ever since Jem was two" (7). This shows how Calpurnia, and African American woman, is raising a child. To her, it doesn't matter what color the child skin is. What does matter to her, is that he is a human. Another instance and where Calpurnia's actions affect her character, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She lived in Colorado with her parents and little brother. From the outside, she seems completely ordinary, but not so much on the inside. She does not have any problems mentally or physically, though I am surprised she does not. She has changed my perspective on everything. Her obligation to rainbow bunnies can be a bit bizarre, but her persona is wonderful and bright if you are ever in need of some sunshine. Periodically she chooses to speak a different language. One day she speaks English, the next day Spanish, etc. and gibberish eventually. Her taste in music is very interesting because she seemed like the kind of person who liked happy songs, but she actually likes very dark music such as metal and screamo. My cousin is very different from our other relatives I have met, yet that is what I like about her. In public, she gets really crazy. Not just a little crazy but hyper crazy. She is constantly up and about. She is not afraid to blare her music for the whole world to hear. • 59. To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis In this breathtaking novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, all of my expectations were hit and more; when reading a story about racism and injustice in the world I learned that the world is in worse shape then I thought. Atticus Finch is a white defense lawyer, who defends a black man that has been accused of raping a white woman. Atticus has two young children; Jem, and Jean (Scout) who are growing up in a society where the color of your skin and the differences you have affect your life. The death of our loved ones brings grief and sadness into our lives, and Murder can be especially hard on the families of those we have lost. In today's society we have experienced many shootings in the past couple of years, many of which shouldn't have occurred. The murders of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and Walter Scott were unnecessary just as much as Tom Robinson's in To Kill a Mockingbird. In the novel, Tom Robinson was found guilty of rape after trying to help Mayella with chores. "You're a mighty good fellow, it seems–did all this for not one penny?" "Yes, suh. I felt right sorry for her, she seemed to try more'n the rest of 'em–" "You felt sorry for her, you felt sorry for her?" Mr. Gilmer seemed ready to rise to the ceiling. The witness realized his mistake and shifted uncomfortably in the chair. But the damage was done. Below us, nobody liked Tom Robinson's answer. The general subject matter of the book focuses on the racial bigotry that was prevalent in society during the great depression. This is exemplified by the treatment of fourteen–year–old black youth, named Tom Robinson, that was accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell, and forced to seek legal defense, during a time when society believed that if a black man did anything to a white woman, he was guilty no matter what. The underlying subject matter focused on the children growing up in a time of prejudice and injustice, and the love of a dedicated father who sought everyone as equal rather than being a ... In addition, special mention must be made to the actor James Anderson and actress Collin Wilcox Paxton, for their portrayals of Bob Ewell and his daughter Mayella Ewell. Furthermore, actor Brock Peters rendered an exemplary rendition of a submissive slave fearful and hesitant to defend himself while being falsely accused of rape, when in actuality he rejected Mayella Ewell's sexual advancements. Clearly, with this cast, it is no small wonder that the movie won thirteen awards, and sixteen nominations spanning from 1963 to as late as 2003. Next, the cinematography of To Kill A Mockingbird, although filmed in 1962, thirty years from the story date allowed the setting location to be realistic and believable of the 1930's. This credit goes to the art directors for bringing a small southern town during the depression onto the big screen. It was also seen in water fountains and restaurants; certain areas being designated for blacks. Those areas usually lacked luxuries that areas for whites had and sometimes even lacked basic sanitation. Ranging from appearance to actions they hardly shared any similarities. This makes them both easily comparable. Both had their ups and their downs, but in the end, General Robert E. Lee was the best general overall. Let us start somewhere easy, let us start with their appearances. Lee stood at a 5 ft. 11 in., weighing 175 lbs., and Grant stood under him at 5ft. 7 in., weighing 140 lbs. While Lee was compared in size to the great Abraham Lincoln, it has been said that Grant had to stand on a stool just to address other soldiers. As for their attire Lee was always seen in a perfect uniform. His jacket pressed, complete with a sash, general's sword, hat, white gloves, and shined boots. Grant on the other hand always look disheveled. He wore a simple private's uniform with general insignia added on, complete with a jacket that looked slept in. Many people accredit this look saying that "His mind was too busy on winning the war than on looking presentable." His personal account of how he came to this shows more, "I was impatient to get on my uniform and see how it looked, and probably wanted my old school–mates, particularly the girls, to see me in it. The conceit was knocked out of me by two little circumstances that happened soon after the arrival of the clothes, which gave me a distaste for military uniform that I never recovered from." Wal–Mart's stance on not allowing unions can also be accredited to their cost leadership approach. When I outline Wal–Mart's business policy at the start of this essay, I suggest that they were a central–control based organisation that tried to ensure it controlled all aspects of the firm. This is linked to cost leadership, by having tight control they know exactly where money is going and where it is coming from which allows for better development of efficiency. This notion of control is especially noticeable on their management of employees, for example through such action as cutting hours, understaffing, minimum wage levels and stopping overtime. • 77. The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it. Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic artist ("Comics Theory"). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States (Töpffer 2014). Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the "Funnies", the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ("Comic Theory"). His debut led to an explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
