- The trailer started off with quick cuts which
instantly created enigma. It began with lowkey
lighting and flashlights during the quick cuts.
Enigma is a convention of a documentary as it
leads to people to want to know what will happen
next.
- The cuts got faster and faster and then suddenly
stopped making it very dramatic. Another way
that made it very enigmatic is the use of the back
of the members heads. They never showed their
faces which made the audience wonder who is
who and allows them to anticipate for the big
reveal.
7. THIS IS US: SOUND
The trailer consisted of voiceovers which is a convention of a
documentary. It began with different news reporters reporting about One
Direction. One of the reporters said " People started lining up 5 years ago"
which emphasizes how famous they are. the sounds also consisted of their
fans cheering and had special sound effects. In the beginning the sound
effects involved loud bangs and increasingly got faster. This created intensity
and enhanced enigma again . It suddenly came to a halt and played
contrasting music. The music it switched to was more gentle and presented
the One direction members when they were younger which demonstrates
another convention, 'realism'.

allows us to gain background knowledge on their lives and how they started off. To

The title is centered in the middle and is in bold
capital letters. This indicates that they are trying to
gain peoples attention since it is set in the centre
especially teenagers as the title has the word 'gang' in
it. Teenagers can relate the most and are attracted
more to this documentary as most of them are in
gangs or are surrounded by gangs.
- The title is white so it will stand out more from the
low key background.
- The title also reflects the topic as it has gang in the
title and the documentary is all about 'gangs'.
11. - This poster conforms to the conventions of a
documentary as it represents a boy looking down hiding
his face which creates enigma. His hat and hood
maintains him to be discrete. The fact that we cant see
who this person is makes it extremely mysterious and
leaves the audience to wonder who this person is.
- A long mid shot is also utilized to present a man in a
puffy jacket which is what a typical gangster would wear.
Stereotypically gangsters are viewed as 'dangerous' and
makes the audience assume he is up to no good.
- The enigma was emphasized due to the setting which
reflects the topic. It is set in a council estate which is
usually rough and where most gangsters usually chill
therefore most of the mayhem occurs there.
12. CONVENTIONS
The trailer of gangland starts off with a convention such as voiceovers and realism. It presented the real
actors in action on what they do on a daily basis. It also started off extremely enigmatic as it consisted of low key
lighting making it very mysterious. An aspect that enhanced the mystery was what the gangsters were wearing. Mid
shots and close up shots were used to present the gangsters outfits. Their outfits consisted of all black puffy
jackets and a mask. Their mask covered their entire face and ensured only their eyes were on display. This
emphasises the enigma as it leaves the audience wondering who they are and why it is imperative that they are in
disguise.
Close up shots were even used to present the drugs and guns they were dealing with. This clearly indicates
they are gangsters and are extremely dangerous.
Interviews were also included which conformed to the conventions.
13. SOUND
The sound of the trailer was very upbeat through out the trailer and symbolized
an action film. The fast music gave the audience an impression their life is anarchic
and have to deal with dangerous business.
This was successful when promoting the main product as both the posters and
trailers consisted of documentary conventions which allowed the audience to
understand what genre it is. It also displayed many aspects that teenagers can relate
too and the majority or teenagers know gangster or are a part of a gang.
