Dear Mr Hawkins,
For our upcomingproductionof ‘Beautyandthe Beast’,Iwouldlike toapplyfora role inthe stage
managementteam. Iwouldlike thisrole asIwantto be a part of the show as much as I can withas
manyteamsand creative andtechnical people asIcan, so thatI can getthe most outof the
experience I’ve wantedtodosince Isignedupfor the course and learningaboutstage managing
made me want itevenmore.
I thinkI will be successfulin the stage management teamasIam well organisedandIam goodwhen
workingasa team(meetingwiththe otherteamsinthe production) andworkingindependently
(makingnotesoneverythingrelevant). Ifeel thatforthese reasonsIwill workwell inthe teamand
with/benefitthe productionasawhole. Ifeel thatmyconsistentsinworkethicandgreat
punctualitywill helpwitharole inthe stage managementteamasI will be consistentinmy
attendance torehearsalsandmeetingswhere Iwill make notesoneverythingof importants.My
noteswill be organisedandIwill meeteverydeadlinenecessarywhichwill insurethateverything
that needstobe done isdone on or before the deadline.Iamnot justgoodat workingasa team but
alsoworkingindependentlyandtakingordersfromhigherroles.Iwill take ordersfromhigherroles
and complete thempunctuallyandtoa highstandard.Thisis because Iam passionate about
productionasa whole andIcare about the qualityandstandardsof the performance andbackstage.
I have performingexperienceinsmall productionsinhallsandsmall stagesandIfeel thisexperience
will helpwitharole inthe stage managementteam.Thisisbecause manyof these shows(due toa
small groupof actors andone or twoteachers) were veryunprepared andlastminuetonmany
things,suchas propsand workinglights,setandsometimesmusic.Sothisexperience allowedme to
take initiative alearntoworkunderpressure instressful,productionrelated,situations.This
experience hastherefore givenme usefulskillsthatIcan applyto a stage managementrole.
I feel thatthese experiencesandqualitieswill allowme totake on a role inthe stage management
teamsuccessfullyandinaway that will benefitmyexperienceandthe show asa whole.
My secondchoice of role wouldbe props.Thisisbecause Iam fascinatedbe waypropshelp
performancesandhowspecificpropsneedtobe the detail usedtofindand/ormake props of a
performance.Ithinkmyskillsof organisationandnote takingapplytothisrole aswell because the
researchthat will be done forthe numerouspropsandcostume props,candle stick handsanda cup
on a trolley,willneedtobe precise aspossibleforaccuracyin eraand safetyof the actors. I am also
intrigue bythe waythe props are made fromthe materialstothe detail of the era and style.Thisis
importantas I feel thatasI am interestedinitIwill domore researchand lookintothe detailsmore
makingthe overall showlookmore realisticandaccurate to the time.I,as I mentionedbefore,am
goodat takingorderswhichwouldbe goodforthisrole as propsneedto be trackeddown/found
and will needtobe foundquicklyandefficientlyandwill needtobe of the standard anddetail that
the props designer/director/stage managerwants. Alsomypunctualityandorganisationwill help
whenitcomesto the deadlines,whichwillbe atthe verystart of the rehearsalsforthe costume
props.I feel asthoughI will be able totake care of the propsduringthe show a I will organise them
efficientlysothatthe actors can accessthemquicklyduringthe show readyforquickscene changes.
I feel thatI will provideabeneficial approachtobothof these rolesandwill use themtoimprove the
showinany way I can.
