developed
 I want to study BA (Hons) Film production
course because I’ve always been passionate
about the creative media industry,
especially when it comes down to all kinds of
filmic videography.
 What I find so interesting and so
captivating about the film production sector
is the passion, love and the artistic
dedication to everyone’s craft.
 I love how there is a role for pretty much
anyone & anything, and everybody has just
as an important role to play in, as the rest.
Wither it’s being a Camera-man, Lighting
technician, set designer, editor,
director/producer I find all of it be to so
interesting.
 I confidently think that this course offers
me just that, an opportunity to personally
educate, broaden and specialise in what I
would like to do within the future.
 My interest leaning more heavily towards
the ‘post-production’ side of things (meaning
Editing, Sound Design, Colour Grading and
Visual Effects) came from when I was
watching a lot Zack Snyder films, back when
I watched The 300 (2006) along with
Watchmen (2009) and his DCEU Movies, I
feel in love with his style of cinematic
language.
 So dark, brooding, dramatic, serious and
suspenseful. A mixture of grandeurs
imagery and soundtrack choice, he was able
to say so much ‘visually’ without the
characters or the plot saying much of
anything apart from there body language,
expression and both foreground and
background had so much to say and packed
with lots of detail. A true eye of visual
storytelling.
 I got hooked on colour side of things very
quickly and wanted to learn more of how it
was done, shot and created. Colour grading
is now something I do a lot in my spare time
now. Practicing both during my college
projects and spare time.
 Obsessing over other people’s film grades
and wanting to know as much I could about
adobe primer pro’s colour mixing/grading
ensuite. I quickly bought more own camera
and started shooting subjects of choice,
whether it was through my time at the
college or in my spare time, I could never
put it down and still can’t. Lens choice has
hugely impacted my personal test as well, I
tend to shot as low of an aperture as
possible cause I enjoy the smooth, creamy
bokeh, and the shallow depth of field in my
video work and images.
 My favourite genres of film are both
‘Horror’ & ‘action’ but there is no sub-genre
of film that I wouldn’t be willing to try at
and give a go.

do with your degree?
Why?
 I’m hoping that taking on this degree helps
me gain a better chance at opening new
doors with pursuing a career in film media.
 This course is going to help further realise
my skills and help develop my knowledge
enough with the industry craft, till I know
what I would like to specialise in later down
the line. I am excited to work with camera
operators and industry standard equipment,
and I’m really look forward to meeting/
networking with potential clients, businesses
and generally those who love their art and
craft, just as much as I would do.

 During my time in bede college studying my
level-2 media we visited Sunderland
University’s Sir Tom Cowie campus (down
next to St. Peters) down there we had the
privilege with having a tour around the
campuses’ facilities especially involving the
‘media’ department.
 It was there where we meet up with some
of University lectures and took part in
operating the news room/studio. We
operated the cameras (learned how to work
them) Taught about the different type of
job roles involving it e.g. floor manager etc.
We also got an inside view of the
overlooking studio console and how the
sound engineering and live mixing was
controlled and distributed.
 I learned a lot of information about the
courses offerings as result and enjoyed my
time there immensely. I learned
distinctively how to work as a team involving
5 or more people and even had a go at being
main manager of the live editing board.
 This is where I gained a lot more respect
and admiration to those within this job role
as good listening skills and reaction time was
key to what makes the whole operation move
smoothly as possible.
 The experience that I gained was to always
to listen to each other and to know your
place in the role that you were assigned too,
for maximum efficiency within a live a
studio.

developed through
your college studies?
Through my college studies I have developed a
strong sense of independence in regards to my
workflow, I am able to listen carefully and
intuitively to instructions & tasks that are given to
me, And are able to work calmly, smoothly and
efficiently under the pressure of strict deadlines.
College has helped me develop both my work ethic
& personality significantly and has encouraged to
gain more confidence with sharing/communicating
ideas with my fellow peers.

 I am positive, hardworking, methodical and
highly motivated student.
 Who always strives to complete jobs and
tasks to the highest of standards.
 I work calmly and smoothly whilst under
pressure and can communicate effectively
with my fellow colleagues to make ends meet
and reach target deadlines.
 My additional strengths are that I’m an
extremely analytical and a very critical
person, who is always reflecting on what was
learned how it could’ve been done even
better the next time. (Positives & negatives)
 I’m also a huge perfectionist when it comes
to project work and like them to be done
properly, acutely and professionally.
 However my weakness is mostly time
management as I tend to get lost within my
own mind/thoughts and tend to dwindle on
aspects that might not affect the end
result of a project.
 The ways of which I counteract this is to
set timeline goals for myself, wither that’s
setting dates on calendars or notification
bells on my phone, or a word document so I
should know when it’s time to reframe and
move on to something else.

Writing your personal statement: Tips for success

  • 1. Writing your personal statement You should make notes in preparation for writing your personal statement. Section Notes Queries and questions to ask tutor Why do you want to study your chosen subject? Explain how your interest has developed  I want to study BA (Hons) Film production course because I’ve always been passionate about the creative media industry, especially when it comes down to all kinds of filmic videography.  What I find so interesting and so captivating about the film production sector is the passion, love and the artistic dedication to everyone’s craft.  I love how there is a role for pretty much anyone & anything, and everybody has just as an important role to play in, as the rest. Wither it’s being a Camera-man, Lighting technician, set designer, editor, director/producer I find all of it be to so interesting.  I confidently think that this course offers me just that, an opportunity to personally educate, broaden and specialise in what I would like to do within the future.  My interest leaning more heavily towards the ‘post-production’ side of things (meaning Editing, Sound Design, Colour Grading and Visual Effects) came from when I was watching a lot Zack Snyder films, back when I watched The 300 (2006) along with Watchmen (2009) and his DCEU Movies, I feel in love with his style of cinematic language.  So dark, brooding, dramatic, serious and suspenseful. A mixture of grandeurs imagery and soundtrack choice, he was able to say so much ‘visually’ without the characters or the plot saying much of anything apart from there body language,
  • 2. expression and both foreground and background had so much to say and packed with lots of detail. A true eye of visual storytelling.  I got hooked on colour side of things very quickly and wanted to learn more of how it was done, shot and created. Colour grading is now something I do a lot in my spare time now. Practicing both during my college projects and spare time.  Obsessing over other people’s film grades and wanting to know as much I could about adobe primer pro’s colour mixing/grading ensuite. I quickly bought more own camera and started shooting subjects of choice, whether it was through my time at the college or in my spare time, I could never put it down and still can’t. Lens choice has hugely impacted my personal test as well, I tend to shot as low of an aperture as possible cause I enjoy the smooth, creamy bokeh, and the shallow depth of field in my video work and images.  My favourite genres of film are both ‘Horror’ & ‘action’ but there is no sub-genre of film that I wouldn’t be willing to try at and give a go. What do you want to do with your degree? Why?  I’m hoping that taking on this degree helps me gain a better chance at opening new doors with pursuing a career in film media.  This course is going to help further realise my skills and help develop my knowledge enough with the industry craft, till I know what I would like to specialise in later down the line. I am excited to work with camera operators and industry standard equipment, and I’m really look forward to meeting/ networking with potential clients, businesses and generally those who love their art and craft, just as much as I would do.  Communicating, sharing & creating.
  • 3. Have you any relevant experience? (work experience/shadowing or evidence of interest)  During my time in bede college studying my level-2 media we visited Sunderland University’s Sir Tom Cowie campus (down next to St. Peters) down there we had the privilege with having a tour around the campuses’ facilities especially involving the ‘media’ department.  It was there where we meet up with some of University lectures and took part in operating the news room/studio. We operated the cameras (learned how to work them) Taught about the different type of job roles involving it e.g. floor manager etc. We also got an inside view of the overlooking studio console and how the sound engineering and live mixing was controlled and distributed.  I learned a lot of information about the courses offerings as result and enjoyed my time there immensely. I learned distinctively how to work as a team involving 5 or more people and even had a go at being main manager of the live editing board.  This is where I gained a lot more respect and admiration to those within this job role as good listening skills and reaction time was key to what makes the whole operation move smoothly as possible.  The experience that I gained was to always to listen to each other and to know your place in the role that you were assigned too, for maximum efficiency within a live a studio. What skills have you developed through your college studies? Through my college studies I have developed a strong sense of independence in regards to my workflow, I am able to listen carefully and intuitively to instructions & tasks that are given to me, And are able to work calmly, smoothly and efficiently under the pressure of strict deadlines. College has helped me develop both my work ethic & personality significantly and has encouraged to gain more confidence with sharing/communicating
  • 4. ideas with my fellow peers. What skills have you developed through work experience? What extra-curricular activities have you taken part in? What skills have you developed? What are your personal qualities?  I am positive, hardworking, methodical and highly motivated student.  Who always strives to complete jobs and tasks to the highest of standards.  I work calmly and smoothly whilst under pressure and can communicate effectively with my fellow colleagues to make ends meet and reach target deadlines.  My additional strengths are that I’m an extremely analytical and a very critical person, who is always reflecting on what was learned how it could’ve been done even better the next time. (Positives & negatives)  I’m also a huge perfectionist when it comes to project work and like them to be done properly, acutely and professionally.  However my weakness is mostly time management as I tend to get lost within my own mind/thoughts and tend to dwindle on aspects that might not affect the end result of a project.  The ways of which I counteract this is to set timeline goals for myself, wither that’s setting dates on calendars or notification bells on my phone, or a word document so I should know when it’s time to reframe and move on to something else.
