1. 1. Screenshots of my poster, trailer and website.
2. 2. In terms of the poster, there is a distinct house style to fit the conventions of the horror genre. I feel that the use of colours such as deep dark blacks, reds and greys connote horror and bloodshed, and the picture of the dead body shows the stereotypical 'victim' of a horror film. However, I feel that the downside is that due to the convergence of the poster from my original idea to the group idea which took a more psychological route. Due to other work pressures I felt I didn't have sufficient time to improve my poster a great amount in order to help it fit better to the more specific genre that Shortcoming comes under. The website took a similar theme as it's theme matched that of the poster in terms of font and style etc. with the black and red which I feel worked well. I feel that the trailer fit some of the conventions of my poster and website, however I feel that the group merging our ideas took the plot for our trailer in a slightly different direction.
3. 3. My poster and website do help to promote my group’s film as it opens up more mediums to advertising and distribution in both print form and through the internet etc. And the website is a good example of technological convergence as the trailer can be viewed via a link on the website.
4. 4. I feel that the trailer targets the audience most successfully because it has many more exciting elements due to all the time that me and my group put into it. Also, I feel that we all managed to bring different strengths into our trailer as it was the only group project. We all managed to create a scary soundtrack, capture different eye-catching shots such as the shot from the perspective of the killer and fast paced shots thanks to the editing process, which I feel would all contribute to enticing the appropriate audience for a psychological horror.
5. 5. The elements that I am most proud of are the planning and preparation of the trailer as my group and I spent many hours making health and safety checks, preparing recording equipment and making props to ensure that the end result would be as good and authentic as possible. I am also proud of some of the amazing shots that we managed to produce, such as point of view shots etc, and of course the editing process which pieced the jigsaw together to a brilliant standard.
6. 6. I definitely feel that the trailer was much stronger than my poster and website due to a number of reasons. One of these reasons is that the majority of mine and my group’s time went on the trailer due to the high number of marks available and the amount of time and effort that goes into making a trailer. I also feel that the trailer was strong due to it being a group effort and therefore the group could merge our individual strengths (such as filming and editing skills etc.) which helped to strengthen the piece. Futhermore, I feel I am personally better at filming creatively than I am constructing posters and websites, and using programmes such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
7. 7. I definitely think that I would make improvements to my website if I could. I feel that webpage design is not a particular strength of mine, and although I managed to construct a working website to a rather basic level, I would have liked to have learnt to use more sophisticated programmes in order to make my website more enticing to the audience, such as Flash and sound programmes. However, I feel I would have learnt at a slow pace which would most probably have compromised my other areas of work.
8. 8. My skills have advanced and developed across the portfolio in a number of ways. For example, I have a slightly better understanding of web design, despite finding it difficult. I also feel I have had more experience handling film equipment, making props and being more practical in general. Furthermore, I feel I have gained skills in time management and organisation through organising to meet up with my fellow group members and filming at certain times of the day etc.
