  2. 2. <ul><li>Think about your own viewing habits through out the day – what do you watch or listen to and why? </li></ul><ul><li>Will you only buy certain brands, if so why? </li></ul>

  4. 4. <ul><li>The idea of Media is built in to the production of a Media text. At the very least, the producer has thought about a specific target audience and how they might make sense of the text. Traditional Media is often very expensive so companies need to be confident that the appropriate audience exists. There for research is carried out. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Demographics <ul><li>Audiences can be classified into groups using quantitative data about age, gender and socio-economic groups? They can be identified by professional status, geographical location, religion, ethnicity, and so on. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Socio Economic groups <ul><li>AB – Professional, business and white collar. </li></ul><ul><li>C1 – Higher skilled Manual </li></ul><ul><li>C2 – Lower skilled Manual </li></ul><ul><li>DE – Semi and unskilled Manual. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Psychographics <ul><li>This is a system for measuring consumers’ beliefs, opinions and interests. It’s like demographics but instead of counting age, gender, race, etc, it gathers info (opinions on abortion, religious beliefs, music tastes, personality traits etc). These are called ILO which stands for Interests, Attitudes and Opinions. Groups can be classified in terms of variables like personality, values, attitudes, interests or lifestyles </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>Go on BARBS website and find out what is the most watched show on terrestrial television for BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. (How many millions watch). </li></ul>
