Step 1. Conservation of Essence. The vital fluid
of procreation.
Step 2. Restoration of Essence. Through proper
diet and nutrition that is energy enhancing.
Step 3. Transmutation of essence.
Accomplished by sound vibrations contained in
the breath.
Chi Techniques
Step 4. Nourishing energy. Accomplished by
audio and visual techniques.
Step 5. Transmutation of energy. Accomplished
by Shugyo.
Shin Techniques
Step 6. Nourishing the Spirit. Accomplished by
Chinkon Gyo.
Step 7. Transmutation of Spirit. Accomplished
by Za-Zen.
Step 8. Transmutation of pure cosmic Spirit into

4. KONGO ZEN
THE TRADITION OF SANTEI
S A N T E I
"San Tei" is the term used to
describe the above 3 paths of the
Journey. They are sequenced as
above in direct relation to the
advancing practitioner on the path.
These disciplines were widely used
by Buddhist & Taoist practitioners
and in time, they formed the basis
for the techniques of the martial
arts which spread throughout
China.
BODHI DHARMA
Approximately 1500 years ago the Indian monk,
Bodhidharma, left his native land Kanchi, to
revive the proper teachings of Buddha in China.
SHAOLIN TEMPLE
He is well known in Asia for his introduction of
za-zen meditation to China. Along with Zazen
he also taught Ekkingyo during his stay at the
Suzan Shorinji (Shaolin Temple) in what is now
known as Hunan province.
DOSHIN SO
Kaiso Doshin So, took the various martial
techniques which were practiced in single
forms and the philosophical teachings of
Buddha and Bodhidharma which he
learned in China and organized them into a
single system. This complete system of
Spiritual Martial Training is called:
Santei Sanpo Nijugo Kei.
5. KONGO ZEN
To signify the establishment of a revitalized spiritual martial art, he turned to the
Suzan Shorinji and its long history of training great scholars and great leaders, of which
he himself was the 21st successor. The name "Shorinji Kempo" was originated by
Kaiso, and it has no precedent in China, ancient or modern.
