SHIATSU – BASIC PRINCIPLES
BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO SHIATSU
THE SEIHO WAY OF LEARNING
PROFESSIONAL COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY
BY SHORINJI KEMPO INDIA
HUMAN BODY FIELD
THE SOUL, as the ego, ascribes to itself all the limitations and circumscriptions of the body. Once so identified, the soul can no longer express its omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence. It imagines itself to be limited.
This limited bodily field of activity and consciousness of the ego, is actually divided into three parts, according to the manifestation of the three influencing qualities inherent in Cosmic Nature. These qualities are: Positive attribute, Negative attribute and Neutral attribute.
HUMAN BODY FIELD- 1st PORTION
The first portion of the three divisions of the bodily field consists of the periphery of the body and includes the five instruments of knowledge and the five instruments of action.
5 instruments of knowledge are: ear, skin, eye, tongue, nose.
5 instruments of action are: the mouth, which produces speech; the hands and feet; and the organs of excretion and procreation.
The dominant forces of nature are: Negative 90% - Positive 10%
HUMAN BODY FIELD- 2nd PORTION
The second portion of the three divisions of the bodily field consists of the cerebrospinal axis with its six subtle centers of life and consciousness and its two magnetic poles.
The 6 subtle centers are: medulla, cervical, dorsal, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal.
The 2 magnetic poles are: Mind and Intelligence.
The dominant forces of nature are: Negative 10% - Positive 90%
HUMAN BODY FIELD- 3rd PORTION
The third portion of the three divisions of the bodily field is in the brain. It extends from the point in the middle of the eyebrows to the medulla oblongata.
The 3 bodies of human beings (physical, astral and causal bodies) are in their finest forms in the brain. It expresses the life and consciousness that is the source that creates and sustains human beings.
The subtle energies and vibratory forces that create life and sustain it, flows down through the cerebrospinal axis to enliven the body and its senses of perception and action.
MAGNETIC FIELD
The in between moments of life and death causes innumerable battles created by perception. Information comes from the environment into the human body. This mingles with emotions within the human body and causes extreme bi-polar activity such as joy and sadness, success and failure etc.
This bi-polar activity happens within the two poles of mind and intelligence. The Soul which is identified with the human body field and feels limitations, is now at war with itself. This is the start of all dis-ease and dis-order.
MAGNETIC FIELD - POLARITY
In the Medical Philosophy of India, everything is energy, everything is in constant flux. This creates constant motion and nothing is static. All matter mutates as it passes in time and space. All matter has an internal organization and rhythm which works in a synchronized manner with the cosmos.
The bipolarity between mind and intelligence creates this synchronized rhythm in cosmic nature and in the human body. In the human body this rhythm is described as the 5 elemental vibrations.
MAGNETIC FIELD – ELEMENTALS
The bipolarity between mind and intelligence creates this synchronized rhythm in cosmic nature and in the human body. In the human body this rhythm is described as the 5 elemental vibrations.
Space stands for mobilization, bringing into motion, growth.
Air is collecting, taking form.
Fire is expansion, maximum development.
Water is condensation and binding force.
Earth is explosion, distribution, destruction.
MAGNETIC FIELD – FLOW
The bipolarity between mind and intelligence creates this synchronized rhythm in cosmic nature and in the human body. In the human body this rhythmic flow of 5 elemental vibrations are multiplication of 4s:
Space : 00.00-00.04 mins / duration 4 minutes
Air : 00.04-00.12 mins / duration 8 minutes
Fire : 00.12-00.24 mins / duration 12 minutes
Water : 00.24-00.44 mins / duration 20 minutes
Earth : 00.44- 00.60 mins / duration 16 minutes
MAGNETIC FIELD – ORGANS
In the human body , cosmic vibration is condensed into organic matter and is in sync with the circadian rhythm of the universe in every earthly hour. The polarity of the organs are Liver-Spleen, Lungs-Kidney. Heart is the neutral force.
Space : Liver / duration 4 minutes
Air : Lungs / duration 8 minutes
Fire : Heart / duration 12 minutes
Water : Kidney / duration 20 minutes
Earth : Spleen / duration 16 minutes
MAGNETIC FIELD – HARMONY
In the human body , cosmic vibration is condensed into organic matter and is in sync with the circadian rhythm of the universe in every earthly hour. When the human being is in harmony with nature the organic actions are:
Space : Liver – human kindness and benevolence. Intimate relationship to a person’s capacity to feel pain
Air : Lungs – virtue of preciousness. Ability to capture moments of perfection and completeness
Fire : Heart – correct behavior, timely interactions and relationships. Ceremony & propriety
Water : Kidney – virtue of wisdom. Relationship between unknown and known. Understanding destiny
Earth : Spleen- faithfulness, loyalty, sincerity. Supporting manifestations of cosmic forces in one’s being
MAGNETIC FIELD – IMBALANCE
It is the vital cosmic energy that feeds the senses. The strength of the vital energy current is directly proportionate to the strength of character in human being. Human desire, wish and wants forms the weak subtle currents of energy. Needs and necessities in life, forms the strong currents of vital energy. The human volition forms the indomitable spirit of energy.
The magnetic field of energy is also affected by distractions of the mind through senses. Sensations, thoughts roused by sensations and past memory-thoughts roused by present thoughts are the 3 ways by which the vital energy currents weaken.
MAGNETIC FIELD – BALANCE
It is the vital cosmic energy that feeds the senses. We understand that energy is bi-polar and originates between the poles of mind and intelligence. We also understand the this flow of energy has 5 vibrational elements. The entire science of healing is based on restoring balance between the positive and negative attributes in nature.
To bring balance and orderliness in oneself and the universe at large, we must understand the cyclic rhythms of imbalance. In Eastern Medical Philosophy there are 3 cycles of imbalance: “Shen” cycle, “Ko” cycle and “Mo” cycle.
MAGNETIC FIELD – CYCLE
To bring balance and orderliness in oneself and the universe at large, we must understand the cyclic rhythms of imbalance. Evolution happens in human beings as per his desires and culmination of desires. It is best described as a cycle of want – needs – fulfillment.
Shen cycle is about WANT. Here the elemental vibrations are in early production stage.
Ko cycle is about NEED. Here the elemental vibrations are in formation stage.
Mo cycle is about FULFILLMENT. The need to achieve one’s needs and enjoy the result of the same is indomitable. The vital currents are violent and agitated.
EVOLUTION OF HUMAN BEINGS
The ego evolves constantly through imperfect ways based entirely on the 5 senses of knowledge and action. As a result, the delusive ego is constantly at war to liberate itself from the delusive world.
The soul awakens from the delusive state of illusion wherein it was known as ego. The process of the self realization through miseries is described in the following slides.

DISCRIMINATION & WILL
More confining than stone walls are the prison bars of habit. You carry this invisible prison with you wherever you go. But you can be free!
Don’t be bound by habits that make you say, “I can’t do that,” or, “I have to do this,” or, “ Don’t do that to me, it makes me nervous,” or, “I can’t stand the cold,” and so on.
Determine now to break out of the jail of habits and race for freedom.

CONTROLLING DESTINY
Man is not an automaton controlled by destiny.
Analyze yourself. What happened to your good intentions and noble ambitions of the past year? Did you let them die for want of dynamic will-to- accomplish?
Plan your time. Resolve that you are not going to be an automaton run by the world and by your own habits; that is not the way to true happiness.
The human mind is elastic. If you pull it gradually, it will yield to your tugs.
Jing (Well) Points (Ashaya – desire) Location: Meridians start at Jing-Well points; they are located on the fingers and toes of the four extremities.

SHIATSU : BASIC PRINCIPLES

  • 1. SHIATSU – BASIC PRINCIPLES BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO SHIATSU THE SEIHO WAY OF LEARNING PROFESSIONAL COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY BY SHORINJI KEMPO INDIA
  • 2. HUMAN BODY FIELD THE SOUL, as the ego, ascribes to itself all the limitations and circumscriptions of the body.
  • 3. HUMAN BODY FIELD- 1st PORTION The first portion of the three divisions of the bodily field consists of the periphery of the body and includes the five instruments of knowledge and the five instruments of action. 5 instruments of knowledge are: ear, skin, eye, tongue, nose. 5 instruments of action are: the mouth, which produces speech; the hands and feet; and the organs of excretion and procreation. The dominant forces of nature are: Negative 90% - Positive 10%
  • 4. HUMAN BODY FIELD- 2nd PORTION The second portion of the three divisions of the bodily field consists of the cerebrospinal axis with its six subtle centers of life and consciousness and its two magnetic poles. The 6 subtle centers are: medulla, cervical, dorsal, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal. The 2 magnetic poles are: Mind and Intelligence. The dominant forces of nature are: Negative 10% - Positive 90%
  • 5. HUMAN BODY FIELD- 3rd PORTION The third portion of the three divisions of the bodily field is in the brain.
  • 6. MAGNETIC FIELD The in between moments of life and death causes innumerable battles created by perception.
  • 7. MAGNETIC FIELD - POLARITY In the Medical Philosophy of India, everything is energy, everything is in constant flux.
  • 8. MAGNETIC FIELD – ELEMENTALS The bipolarity between mind and intelligence creates this synchronized rhythm in cosmic nature and in the human body. In the human body this rhythm is described as the 5 elemental vibrations. Space stands for mobilization, bringing into motion, growth. Air is collecting, taking form. Fire is expansion, maximum development. Water is condensation and binding force. Earth is explosion, distribution, destruction.
  • 9. MAGNETIC FIELD – FLOW The bipolarity between mind and intelligence creates this synchronized rhythm in cosmic nature and in the human body. In the human body this rhythmic flow of 5 elemental vibrations are multiplication of 4s: Space : 00.00-00.04 mins / duration 4 minutes Air : 00.04-00.12 mins / duration 8 minutes Fire : 00.12-00.24 mins / duration 12 minutes Water : 00.24-00.44 mins / duration 20 minutes Earth : 00.44- 00.60 mins / duration 16 minutes
  • 10. MAGNETIC FIELD – ORGANS In the human body , cosmic vibration is condensed into organic matter and is in sync with the circadian rhythm of the universe in every earthly hour. The polarity of the organs are Liver-Spleen, Lungs-Kidney. Heart is the neutral force. Space : Liver / duration 4 minutes Air : Lungs / duration 8 minutes Fire : Heart / duration 12 minutes Water : Kidney / duration 20 minutes Earth : Spleen / duration 16 minutes
  • 11. MAGNETIC FIELD – HARMONY In the human body , cosmic vibration is condensed into organic matter and is in sync with the circadian rhythm of the universe in every earthly hour. When the human being is in harmony with nature the organic actions are: Space : Liver – human kindness and benevolence. Intimate relationship to a person’s capacity to feel pain Air : Lungs – virtue of preciousness. Ability to capture moments of perfection and completeness Fire : Heart – correct behavior, timely interactions and relationships. Ceremony & propriety Water : Kidney – virtue of wisdom. Relationship between unknown and known. Understanding destiny Earth : Spleen- faithfulness, loyalty, sincerity. Supporting manifestations of cosmic forces in one’s being
  • 12. MAGNETIC FIELD – IMBALANCE It is the vital cosmic energy that feeds the senses.
  • 13. MAGNETIC FIELD – BALANCE It is the vital cosmic energy that feeds the senses.
  • 14. MAGNETIC FIELD – CYCLE To bring balance and orderliness in oneself and the universe at large, we must understand the cyclic rhythms of imbalance.
  • 15. EVOLUTION OF HUMAN BEINGS The ego evolves constantly through imperfect ways based entirely on the 5 senses of knowledge and action. As a result, the delusive ego is constantly at war to liberate itself from the delusive world. The soul awakens from the delusive state of illusion wherein it was known as ego. The process of the self realization through miseries is described in the following slides.

  • 21. DISCRIMINATION & WILL More confining than stone walls are the prison bars of habit. • 22. CONTROLLING DESTINY Man is not an automaton controlled by destiny.
