2. LIGHTING
In an indie rock magazine they typically use low key lighting and earthy colours to give a somber
effect this could be the clothes that they wear or the setting. The lighting often highlights the
person/artists face so that they are shown as important. The background is usually a white or creamy
colour so that is looks mellow and peaceful. The colours that are used in indie bands tends to be
earthy which gives a
3. CLOTHING, COSTUME AND PROPS
the people in the indie magazines often wear simple clothes that look worn out and
old but this helps for them to look more obscene or different. They also tend to have
a very straight face with peculiar hair. Typically the band members or artists wear
very laid back casual clothing which can often make them seem arrogant. The
props that indie rock bands use tends to be acoustic guitars bass guitars drums and
vocals,
4. SETTING
In indie rock the settings are almost always low budget, which is why the music
videos often take place in suburban locations like back streets, terrace housing ,
rundown places. These sort of locations help to create a sense of mystery. They
are used in indie rock because it is meant to make the viewer focus on the artists
performance .
5. STOCK CHARACTER/REPRESENTATION
The general target audience that indie rock appeals to is late teens and early
twenties. I think that this music can be quite relaxing and also loud which this age
group like to help block out the outside world. Also this sort of music can be quite
relatable to this age of people.
6. FONTS
The fonts often used in indie rock magazines are usually sharp looking, this helps to
look more stern and straight than bubbly fonts associated with pop magazines.
7. MY SELF REFLECTION
In the indie rock magazine that i have to make i known that the people on the cover
and in the images will have to be wearing clothes that can be classed as “indie”
this could include denim/leather jackets, hats or skinny jeans. That colours that i
will be using in the magazine will need to look worn out and the colours i use will
be earthy colours like browns beiges and creams.i will try to make the setting for
my magazine images a urban looking disused street or building that looks
rundown.
