As a whole, society has mixed sentiments regarding vigilantism. However, society, for the most
part, has a preconceived notion that vigilante based justice consists of some superhero taking action
into their own hands to stop the "bad guys". Vigilantism should not be confused with a personal
duty to investigate crimes happening within one self's personal community. According to The Free
Dictionary, vigilante refers to "a person who is not a member of law enforcement but who pursues

Vigilante based justice is by no means justice. In essence, vigilantism strips people of their
constitutional and legal rights. If vigilantism was allowed, suspected lawbreakers would have no
presumption of innocence. Another right that would be lost would the right to have procedural due
process. In addition to the rights being lost, a vigilante will often carry a bias and/ or they do not
have law enforcement training. With the absence of training, the vigilante will more than likely
detain the suspected law breaker in a harmful way, and the vigilante does not know how to properly
screen a suspected law breaker to collect facts. All of this being said, vigilantism does not provide
suspected law breakers with adequate resources and time to fight any allegations. For a moment
place yourself in someone's shoes that has been wrongly accused of murder. Without any hesitation,
one of the family members of the deceased was allowed to murder you because of the preconceived
notion that you had killed his/her family member. This is what vigilantism looks like and why it is

As I am filled with even greater questions of morality towards the pro–life movement. Are pro–life
supports willing to justify murder to stop a woman from aborting an unwanted child? Fears of
aggression like this are made real in this article as we are told of the dilemma this issue raises for
those supporting pro–life. Some see it as being justifiable thus making dear's action justifiable
meanwhile, others see it as being wrong as it goes against the meaning of pro–life. I've come to
think through this article that this movement wants to end the abortion practice but is unwilling to
support those that have taken direct action.
By the time I reached the ending of this article. I believe that I may have gained great clarity and a
better understanding on this issue. Because it has told me that people are at very opposite ends of
how the pro–life activism. Though we all understand why the view is so controversial to the public.

My personal overview of this article is one that is filled with indifferences towards pro–life.

Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society
confronts problems. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante
and how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr.
Manhattan, Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and
violence differently. To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the
reader look to the gutter of the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the "Human
imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea" (McCloud 66). In his
chapter "blood in the gutter" McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect
reader's sensibility. However, violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything
deemed perhaps too risqué also happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character's sexuality
will also take place in the gutter. Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps

It is a right that is imbued into ourselves from the very moment that we begin to exist, and ends with
our dying breath. Enforcers have always had the most dangerous of jobs, living under the constant
threat of their lives being at stake. When one such enforcer faces a situation such as the one stated
s/he is allowed by the laws of all established governments to protect himself/herself from imminent
danger, and take the life of the suspect if necessary.
Of course, the act of self–defense can only be condoned if the enforcer in question has ensured that
"the perceived attacker poses a clear and imminent danger to one's vital interests and that the
attacker bears responsibility for this danger" (Statman 04). The victim (which in this case, is the
enforcer) must also verify that the attacker is, beyond a shadow of doubt, responsible for the crime
for which s/he has been accused. Until and unless these conditions have been fulfilled, self–defense
cannot be accepted as an argument for the extra–judicial killing. However, if that is not the case, the
enforcer is allowed to do whatsoever necessary to protect himself/herself.
Furthermore, a nation's government may choose to eliminate individuals or organizations which

Figurative Language In The Hunted Oak And The Lynching
The poems by Paul Dunbar and Claude McKay both use figurative language in the poems the "The
Hunted Oak" and "The Lynching". The ways that they talk about it are completely different and
invoke different feeling out of you as both writers wanted to talk about an important issue. "The
hunted oak" was written in 1913 and "The Lynching" was written in 1920 so this tells us that it was
a prominent issue at the time. Each author used different literary devices to convey their feelings
and to express themselves. Their perception of terror is the same for both but how the convey it is
different. The poems are meant to have a sense of terror and fright.
The genre of the poem "The Hunted Oak" is drama because the author let's all the characters speak
throughout the poem. The subject of this poem is that there is a lynching going on and the tree is
affected by the actions. The theme of this poem is that terror but not to a person but to thing. There
was a lot of forms of diction in this poem. For example, there was connotation when he said "And
why, when I go through the shade you throw runs a shudder over me" (Dunbar). That line also gave
the reader imagery by using the word shudder, a person can physically see someone physically
shuddering. The tone of this poem was a somber one. It just gives the reading bad feeling for the
tree at the end of the poem.
This poem is unique because it is told from the tree's perspective. Dunbar gave the tree feelings, this
can be seen here "I feel the rope against my bark against my bark". The theme of the poem is terror
because the tree has conveyed emotions that make it seems that he was emotionally scarred by this
event. This can be seen in the line "For I feel his curse as a haunted bough on the trunk of a haunted
tree". Also, the way that the tree describes the event as a whole brings a sense of terror. For
example, in the line "I feel in the throne of his final woe the touch of my own pain. This not say that
the victim who is being lynched is taking his last breath so does the tree. This also can be perceived
that the tree and the victim are interconnected, as their souls both leave the earth at the same time.

America's current socio–political events and values are reflected through the film industry's

Heroes have the tendency to fight crime or serve the public without having to have a personal
reason, this is not the case for Batman. Batman regularly, if not constantly, fights crime for his own

The use of vigilante justice is illegal but, at times it can be understood. Vigilante justice is
considered legal when dealing with it as self–defense.. The term vigilante justice means someone
has gone outside the law to carry out a punishment for a crime. In other words vigilante justice
means that a citizen has taken justice into their own hands. One of the defining elements of
vigilantism is a response that involves violence that exceeds the legitimate use of force in self–
defense. These people who take justice into their own hands are called a vigilante.
