Plot the following points on a coordinate grid.Connect the points to create
a graph.
Scaffolding Questions:
1.What do you know about the point (0,-4) ? What is the vocabulary
associated with this point ?
2.What do you know about the points (-2,0 ) and (2,0 )?
Do you know of another term associated with these points ?
We know that points (-2,0) and (2,0) are called x-intercepts because the
graph crosses the x-axis but mathematically in the context of quadratic
function we call them zeros,roots or solutions of the quadratic function.
X= -2 and x = 2 are zeros because these are the x - values that make the
function f(x) or y equal to zero.
2. Graph the function
using your calculator .
Scaffolding Questions :
1.Does the graph cross the x- axis ?
2. What are the zeros of the quadratic?Verify these zeros using your table
in the calculator.
3. If a quadratic function does not cross the x - axis, is there a solution ?
