Evaluation Q7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
full product?
Foley Sound
In my progression from my preliminary task to my
opening sequence I have learned a variety of things.
The first thing that I have learned that from my
preliminary task is that foley sound is a key aspect of
films as it makes the things that are happening in the
film more realistic as it creates sounds you would
normally associate with it the action. The audio box I
used was called the Zoom H4n.
Foley Sound
Rather than just the audio from the camera which is not a
good and in some cases does not emphasize the action
enough to get the best effect of what is happening for
example in my preliminary task there was no foley sound
for the punches therefore it did not make the punches
seem as realistic and as effective. So for my opening
sequence I used foley sound for things like the chair
being pulled out and footsteps. This made the scene feel
more realistic as you can hear all the sounds you would if
you did the actions.
Audio
Another thing that I learned for my preliminary task to my opening
sequence is the audio in conversations is also important because in my
preliminary task I only used the camera microphone for the audio of the
conversation and because I was in an empty changing room there was a
large echo which made the audio quality worse.
However if I had used a proper microphone
for it the echo would not have been there
and if it was still not good enough then I
could have recorded it afterwards in another
location where there is no echo and got the
actors to say their lines again and match it
up.
Audio
For my opening sequence I used a microphone when
filming the conversation to help improve the audio
quality. When adding in the audio I noticed a problem
which was that my actors by accident changed the lines
a few times so when I had to put the clips together what
they said did not always match the audio.
Also I used Filmstro for the
audio that would be played be
played behind the video.
Verisimilitude
Another thing that I learned from my preliminary task is that your
actors need to look the age that they are playing. Although I did
do this in my preliminary task I learned how important it is
because otherwise when people watch your film they will think it
is more professional. In big movies they always get people to
play their age group otherwise it looks odd and less
professional. These photos are of my preliminary task actors.
Verisimilitude
So when deciding who to act in my opening sequence I had to
first cancel out all the people who did not look the age range I
wanted them to play. As there was only two actors that I could
get for the days we were filming I had to also ask my brother to
be in the film. These photos are of my opening sequence actors.
Continuity
Another thing that I had learned from my preliminary task is keeping
the continuity of my film. I unfortunately still had a few continuity errors
in my film however was hard to avoid because I was filming in public
therefore had little control over the people around us. In my
preliminary task there a few continuity errors during the fight which
therefore made the actors jump around the ring a little. For my
opening sequence without realizing there was one or two continuity
errors while people were walking past.
