1. Studying different eukaryotic cells in the microscope
You need:
Light microscope, toothpick, slides, coverslip, water, human hair, dye liquor, red onion,
slides with plants- and human cells.
Studying finished slides of plants- and human cells
•choose a ready-made preparation of plant- or human cells
•add a slide on the stage and learn how to move the slide. Start with the smallest
magnification and set the best possible picture.
•draw a picture of what you can see
Make a preparation of human hair
•put a drop of water on a glass slide and add a hair in the drop
•add a coverslip
•set the best possible picture
Studying your own cells
•gently scrape the inside of the cheek with a toothpick
•apply the mixture of cells in a layer on a glasslide
•add 2-3 drops of the dye liquid at the cellsample and then add a coverslip. Wait 5
minutes.
•study the cellsample under the microscope.
•draw a picture of your cells and name the cellparts you can see
Studying cells of the red onion
•pull off a small piece of the red layer which exists between each layer of the onion
•place it in a drop of water on a glass slide
•add a coverslip and study the cells under a microcope.
•draw a picture of the onioncell and insert the name of the cellparts you can see
