Exegesis Of Proverbs 31
Exegesis of Proverbs 31 Woman
The qualities of good entrepreneurs are closely analogous to those found in Proverbs 31:10–31. The
pericope, Proverbs 31 is perceived extraordinarily and equivocally, since it proposes that a capable
wife is tough to find and still the verse immediately continues to praise one. This one woman may
be the 'perfect' wife that one man cannot find. Still, even if she is a challenge to find, she is probably
working hard to achieve that patriarchal goal. Verses 14 and 16 describe that a woman working hard
everywhere is like doing everything that needs to be done. In verses 12, 15b, 20, 21b, 24b, and 27a,
a woman works hard starting from sunrise (verse 15a) to sundown (verse 18b). Many societies
might well be apprehensive that Proverbs 31:10–31 describes an immaculate and inventive woman
was designed in a patriarchal perspective.
These above apprehensions are genuine. Still, there is a lot to understand what the Scripture is
actually saying. Passing the life of the biblical world through the fire of homiletical thought tells me
more, however, than just apprehensions about patriarchy in Proverbs 31:10–31. Truthfully, while
focusing on the biblical world and the specific world of Proverbs, I discover there are two
significant elements about that particular verse which describes the proficient wife where she looks
after her family and home. Below are my two exegetical observations:
First, this Proverbs 31 painstaking woman is exactly described as

Proverbs: Choice and Discernment, the Two Ways of Living
In studying the book of Proverbs there is a similar theme of choice and discernment, the teachings of
decision–making and the repercussions of your actions. These books are made up of extremes and
polar opposites. The dualisms are the rich and poor, the righteous and the wicked, and the wise and
the foolish. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they
will fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person's discernment and ultimate
choice to which one they will get to live. This paper will focus on Proverbs 10, 12, and 14,
Solomon's Proverbs, to display this theme of choice and discernment. Proverb 10 is an ... Show

The passage is most explicit to what will actually happen if a man chooses the wrong kind of wife.
He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience physical
ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be
rewarded for acting wisely. "If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work
hard, you will get a fortune" (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions
can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will come
into wealth and get what you are after in life. "Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term,
however, for the English word connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than
gradual consequences". This passage is showing that there is not just consequences, there are
rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about
choosing which way of life suits you; in all cases, having better judgment and being righteous will
always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this dualistic
approach on advice. "Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness"
(14:1). This passage is very interesting because Proverbs has been directed mainly to men, and this
is telling the men that their women are wise. It would be foolish to not listen to a woman. Your
house is not built with

A Theoretical Presentation Of Proverrbs On Language And...
Language is of the most important way of communication. In folklore among all the variety and
richness of its poetical significance and forms it is difficult to find more interesting and researchable

emotionality, expressiveness to the speech. That is why this research paper has the aim to deal with
the history of the proverbs and analyze them and their influence upon language, to show their
components or equivalents if they exist in compared languages, and the ways of their translation.

The first chapter "A Theoretical Presentation Of Proverbs, Theoretical View On Language And
Gender" represents a division into four subchapters which have to deal with general ideas about the
topic and with basic definitions of gender, proverbs and other key terms. The four subchapters focus
on the definitions, origin of the proverbs and their evolution, proverbs' features. The last subchapter
also touches upon the characteristics of language and gender in English and Romanian languages,
what are the differences and what these two languages have in common concerning gender.
The second chapter „The Cultural and Linguistic Representation Of Men And Women In English

Job Proverbs, Ecclesiastes And
The books of Wisdom : Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs are hugely different
from the preceding books of history. They focus on raising questions about God, creation itself,
humanity and the essence of evil and suffering. In Job, we see one of the most famous individuals in
the Old Testament. His continual struggles and trials cause him to call out to God for answers, and
he receives one in Job 40:2 "Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?He who
rebukes God, let him answer it." It's hard to read of Job's suffering and crying out to God without
questioning why God would let him suffer, but it does show us the peace that can be found in
recognizing God's sovereignty. In Psalms, we see a collection of lyrical poetry, songs and prayers.
Many of these were written by King David himself. The book covers almost the entire gamut of
human emotion, from sorrow to joy, from doubt to faith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, in Proverbs 10:4–5, we see that working hard will lead us to a better life, but slacking
off will cause us shame. In Ecclesiastes: we have Solomon's (generally agreed upon to be the
author) analysis of life. It seems cynical, but overall the message of the book is hope in God. In
Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 we get Solomon's basic lesson to those who are seeking a full and abundant
life " Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For
this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing,Whether
good or evil." In Song of Songs, we see another lyrical, poetic book. This book is only one of two in
the Bible that do not mention God directly. It gives us an insight on how love, marriage and even
sex are to be viewed and practiced in a loving Christian home. Some people view this book as an
allegorical view of Christ's love for his

Proverbs And Proverbs Of Culture
The National Center for Cultural Competence defines culture. as an "integrated pattern of human
behavior that includes thoughts, communications, languages, practices, beliefs, values, customs,
courtesies, rituals, manners of interacting and roles, relationships and expected behaviors of a racial,
ethnic, religious or social group; and the ability to transmit the above to succeeding generation. This
means that language is not only part of how we define culture, it also reflects culture. Thus, the
culture associated with a language cannot be learned in a few lessons about celebrations, folk songs,
or costumes of the area in which the language is spoken. Culture is a much broader concept that is
inherently tied to many of the linguistic concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Is An Old Proverb
Where there is a will, there is a way "Where there is a will, there is a way" is an old proverb which
almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if you
are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and you will
find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of
heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way to
release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful. And we know that
sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goal or dream in our lives. The reason
why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not
know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead.
Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want
opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by setting up ideals and
ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also has a firm resolution and an inflexible
spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On
many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the
objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of

The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible
Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew canon, is
a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no mention of the
Israelite forefathers, God's promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite history. Similar to Job
and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus on patterns of life to
observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The purpose of Proverbs is
to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word "wisdom" (hokmah in
Hebrew) occurs thirty–nine times and the adjective "wise" (hakam) forty–seven times throughout
the 31 chapters. The scope of wisdom applied in the Book of Proverbs ranges from wealth to work
to the words we speak, encompassing nearly every aspect of life.

It is written entirely in poetry. Parallelism, a well–known phenomenon in biblical poetry, is
especially present in Proverbs. Certain proverbs are experiential, "telling it the way it is," more
practically than theoretically. At other times, the biblical saying goes beyond mere observation, to
urge a certain course of action. Portions of the Proverbs may have been assembled due to a desire on
the part of later scribes to preserve Israelite traditional wisdom, which was in danger of being
forgotten. The poetic form provided mnemonic value, as short, pithy sayings lent themselves more
favorably to memorization, securing their transmission to future

It has been acknowledged that one of the chief attraction of a language its national culture. A critical
element that makes great contribution to this special appeal is the use of proverbs, especially ones
containing the word "dogs". This kind of animals has been friends with human beings since the early
days of history. Therefore, it is easy to understand why they appear with high frequency in the
collection of proverbs in the two languages. Proverbs are important in any language because of not
only their concise meaning s but also their symbolic and practical values. Additionally,English and

According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, a dog is " a common animal with four legs, especially
kept by people as a pet to hunt or guard things. In addition, it is used to refer to "a person who is
unpleasant and not to be trusted." That is the definition in the dictionary, in real–life situation, there
are a number of other feelings and thoughts about dogs. In some situations, dogs can be human
beings' friends, companions and soul mates. As Rogers ( 2010) states in his book, what we count on
in life is our dogs' love and trust as we are people who fully comprehend their feelings and emotion
(p. 4). In addition, in some occasions, due to this intimate friendship, Westerners tend to regard dogs
as a human being ( Rogers, 2010, p.8). These special four–leg friends have so many great virtues
that they usually appear in English proverbs with positive images. For example, people say " a dog
is a man's best friend" because they believe that dogs are undeniably loyal and devoted to their
owners ( Manser, 2002, p.58). In addition, according to Whiting ( 1977), the proverb " every dog has
its day" carries an implication about the assurance that every person has period of wealth, affluence
and power in life. Therefore, the image of the dog gives the lowest and unluckiest amongst
individuals the hope of being successful sooner or later in life. Another positive aspect of dog
proverbs is also illustrated by the saying " a good dog deserves a bone" (Apperson & Manser, 2007,
p.150). It is essential to acknowledge that there is cultural viewpoints on the way people treat dogs.
Westerners believe that dogs need to be treated with love and affection hence it is appropriate for
them to be rewarded with their favorite gifts. Similar to the proverb " One good turn deserves
another", this dog proverb indicates that once you do something good, you are eligible for another
good thing. The positive image

An Interpretation Of The Book Of Proverbs : Selfishness...
Characterizing his book, Toward an Interpretation of the Book of Proverbs: Selfishness and
Secularity Reconsidered, as standing in line with canonical interpretation, Zoltán S. Schwáb takes
careful heed to the possibilities of theological reflections of the Book of Proverbs in resonance with
its canonical context and the church tradition. As a consequence of his focus on theological, constant
self–reflection, he leaves behind the historical quests to find out original settings/meanings,
redactional layers, or compositional development of the book. His efforts is attuned to understand
the text rather than to know. He, in this way, contributes to constructing a theology of Proverbs. In
this book, Schwáb delves into two major topics that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Thomas Aquinas' moral theology, "self–preservation is the most basic human end
(97)" and this is not something to be condemned. "This principle is subordinated to the higher ends
like living in community and knowing God (95)." Virtues guide one to comprehend the right
hierarchy of ends. Among virtues of Thomas' thinking, Schwáb understands, the virtue of prudence
is parallel to the practical admonition of Proverbs. And this prudence "is the right sort of (practical)
self–love, the self–love which is beneficial for the individual, the human community, and also for
the relationship of humans with God." "The natural inclination for Self–preservation and the priority
of self–love does not mean selfishness (98)" in Thomistic moral theology. Schwáb's systematic
analysis on Deuteronomy presents that the motive clauses in Deuteronomy are about effectiveness
and long life that are not indifferent from Proverbs' self–interest. Reading Proverbs 1–9 as the
context of Proverbs' sentence–literature levels out the seeming non–Yahwistic characters of
Proverbs. These results allow Schwáb to view that Proverbs is no more self–interested than the rest
of the Bible. He goes on to say that the honor as a result of wise life and the openness of better–than
sayings allude to Proverbs' search for non–material gains, the search that is similarly visible in
Thomistic system. Winding up Part III, Schwáb

Approaches to the Figure of 'Divine' Wisdom in the Book of...
Modem Feminist approaches [c. 1000 words]
Discussing the contemporary sociological perspective of modern feminism to 'divine' wisdom
should involve a brief overview of the theology's focus. McGrath suggests that 'Feminism is a global
movement, arguing for gender equality and a right understanding of the relationship between
women and men to be affirmed by contemporary theology and practice' (McGrath, 2011: p.88).
Thus, when discussing wisdom in the scriptures the feminists are observing how gender is
represented and the effect of this representation upon helping or hindering a 'right relationship'
between the genders.
To recap, Proverbs illustrate Wisdom as both teacher and as a personified woman, whereas in John,
Wisdom is incarnate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather it compels us to continue the struggle with conventional masculine language for God and the
exclusivist authoritarian functions and implications of such language. Feminist theology must
rearticulate the symbols, images, and names of Divine Sophia in the context of our own experiences
and theological struggles in such a way that the ossified and absolutized masculine language about
God and Christ is radically questioned and undermined and the Western cultural sex/gender system
is radically deconstructed (Fiorenza, 1995: p.162).
Therefore Fiorenza believes that the language signifying feminine impetus of God is a way of
realising gender equality and thus a better understanding of the relationship between genders which
has been oppressed too long by the over emphasis on masculinity. Fiorenza further explains that
without the 'loving attention and divine care' as 'embodied and made present in the figure of Divine
Sophia' the true meaning of the Father is diminished (Fiorenza, 1995: p.154) Another feminist
theologian, Johnson, also suggests that reclaiming the feminine Wisdom could challenge the
patriarchy embedded in classical Christology. Johnson realized as discussed above, that the early
Christian's use of personified Wisdom was a developmental step in the understanding

The Guide To Life: The Book of Proverbs

Bible Project
The book that I studied was the Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is part of the Books of
Wisdom in the Old Testament of The Bible. The books in the wisdom section of The Bible (includes
the book of Job, Psalms, Proverbs,Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Book of Wisdom and Sirach) are
meant to try and spread wisdom to the reader and show the right way, or better ways to live your life
in faith. The book of Proverbs is made up of guides on how to live a faithful life, and how to deal
with different situations that you may come across in your life.
Proverbs is a collection of instructions and sayings composed into a book (usccb.org, 2016). The
Book of Proverbs is made up of both long and short guides to life that have to deal with certain
situations. These passages can range from a length of seven verses to thirteen chapters. The
situations that are written about are very common in today's society. These situations that are written
about in Proverbs range from laziness to laughter. Proverbs includes two types of writings: long
instructions that are addressed to younger people and shorter sayings that are meant for all ages.
Parallelism, which is the state of being parallel to something, or corresponding to something is very
common in The Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs stresses that faith is a matter of right

Meaning Of Proverbs

times, the meaning of a proverb is not obvious and this is why knowing all necessary information

misunderstandings and confusion.
Norick (1985) marks two levels of comprehension: literal and figurative (implied). The former
relates more to proverbs that can be understood on literal level, e.g. Like mother, like daughter

Mieder (2014) claims that proverbs are irreplaceable tools in teaching children moral behaviours,
experience and general wisdom. However, not every proverb has its didactic function, and one
should be careful while selecting them in order to teach others (Norrick 1985). Proverbs can be also
used to teach foreign languages by translating exercises and at the same time pupils can learn about
specific culture, heritage and moral precepts (Mieder op. cit.). Worth mentioning is the fact that
proverb can have direct and indirect didactic tendency. Nevertheless, all proverbs can be considered
as a didactic tool in particular context (Norrick op. cit.). In conclusion, it is commonly known that
proverbs are good sources of wisdom and experience that can be also transmitted into other
purposes, for example learning foreign languages or teaching about human nature (Mieder op.

Proverbs Essay
The age of the proverbs and sayings, as well as the age of the folklore is very difficult to be
determined. There is relatively little and seldom convincing evidence about their origin. They
appeared in literary form, and are in most of the cases and adaptation of the oral communication.
The proverbs have been transmitted from generation to generation, until they were recorded as being
a national treasure. Each country has its own proverbs that represent the culture [16]. It is also said
that the proverbs are so old that they are going out of fashion or changing into clichés but still they
have a very important role for the language.
Most of the proverbs have unknown authors. It is told that the origin of proverbs can be traced back
to the time when lived Aristotle. Many proverbs and sayings have their origin in Bible and other
kinds of holly books. The origin of proverbs can be also traced according to the earliest Sumerian
cuneiform tablets (2500 B. C. ) which gave grammatical rules in proverbs, and the philosophical
writings of Aristotle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing The Book Of Proverbs And Ecclesiastes
Looking at the books of wisdom of the Old Testament, the ideas of diligence and laziness have been
greatly captured. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which has
been greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old
Testament (Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined making
them closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that the books
of proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdom that have handled the two ideas in more
expansive manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details.
As stated above, the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes provide a wide description ... Show more

In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a
lazy person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy person
who is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10–12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of
Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and
blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their
end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a
lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which
are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good can ever come out of
them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious and valuable. Laziness is
therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and no one should pay attention
to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages us to pay more attention to the
diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into practice; the results are good and

A Lexical Pragmatic Analysis of Proverbs in Femi...
This essay is a pragmatic reading of moral and socio–political decadence in Femi Osofisan's
Midnight Hotel. It does this by analyzing ten out of twenty–five proverbs deployed in the text. In
analyzing the proverbs, this essay observes that each has at least an ad hoc constituent which
requires semantic modulation to get at the meanings of the proverbs. This modulation is not
arbitrary, but contextually negotiated until the reader reaches his optimal relevance.
Wilson and Carston argue that metaphors are cases of ad hoc constructions (7), for instance, when a
speaker says, 'The boy is a lion'. While a literary scholar would see this as metaphorical, Wilson and
Carston believe that the above sentence is a case of the use of an ad hoc ... Show more content on

One of such is with Ossie Onuorah Enekwe where he says that:
To get desperately close to the spectator, to each and every one I have trapped in the darkness or half
light, to penetrate very close and intimate, like a knife in the ribs. I want to make that spectator
happy but uncomfortable. I want to turn him open, guts and all, spice him, cook him in the filthy,
stinking broil of our history. I want him washed inside out, in the naked truth, and then I sew him
back again a different man. (18)
The playwright's closeness to a reader of Midnight Hotel is predicated on the contemporary subject
matters raised in the text. It is true the essence of the play is to effect a social change (as it is with
most literary works), but this change cannot occur if the reader finds it difficult to comprehend what
the text says. Thus this essay lends a hand in that direction, by working out an easy, systematic,
pragmatic format for understanding Osofisan's Midnight Hotel.
Commenting on the playwright's art, Awodiya submits that "Osofisan is prolific and theatrically
fertile in creating flexible dramatic forms that have great stage adaptability" (15). Awodiya further
notes Osofisan's penchant for invoking traditional African elements of music, dance, songs, mime
and improvisation (15). One of such is proverbs with which he attaches the African sense. Awodiya

Language, Language And Personal Security
Proverbs chapter ten talks about quite a few topics, to list the moral categories mentioned
throughout the proverb there is diligence, laziness, language and personal security. This proverb
comes from Solomon and starts off with the difference between the foolish son and a wise son. The
wise son gives joy to the to the parent whereas the foolish one brings sorrow. In the same sort of
comparison continuing on with the foolish like the lazy and the wise like the diligent, the proverb
continues on in saying that lazy people are quick to become poor and the diligent person who's

Ending with language again the godly provides wise counsel unlike form the deceitful tongue of the
wicked that will be cut off.
Chapter eleven of Proverbs deals with the moral categories of first integrity then judgment, personal
prudence, kindness, cruelty, generosity and selfishness. Beginning with integrity the proverbs speaks
of the prideful leading themselves to disgrace and that wisdom is produced through humility. Godly
people get their direction from being honest, honesty also is the form which guidance is given but
only to those who are good. So when it comes to integrity not being prideful, humility, honesty and
godliness are key characteristics that one needs in order to maintain a good integrity fitting to the
Lord. When it comes to God's judgment riches won't help people on that day much less their sin as
well as ambition these in turn only trap them making them fall instead. Truly only the godliness of
people is the quality that rescues them in implying the day of judgment. So dishonest gain is
something that the Lord hates being something that is not good when facing him while he is angry.
Then personal prudence is explained in when the proverb talks about a nation falling due to lack of
wise leadership, but just the opposite happens that is safety that comes to those with several

The Personification Of Sexuality In Proverbs By Keutvim
Proverbs is an interesting book in the Ketuvim, as it is written seemingly in the form of a patriarchal
system of father passing on wisdom to his son, but yet, one of the most vital pieces is the
personification of Woman Wisdom. Not only are wisdom and folly personified as woman, there is
an inherent sexual nature surrounding their personification–such as in 5:3, talking about the
"immoral woman" and how her lips "drip honey", one cannot read these words without
understanding the intertwining of intimacy and sexuality within it. This concept is further solidified
not only for the Woman Folly, but also for our beloved Woman Wisdom, with the hyper–focus on
the lips in 8:6, 16:23–24, and among many other places within the book. From 8:6 where "the
opening of my lips will come right things" to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The personification of woman as wisdom and folly suggests a polarization that lives between the
two worlds. Woman (or simply rather humans, I suggest woman because of the word choices that
appear to assume life as seen through the lens of birth) cannot simply have a middle ground, they
must play into the tropes of "good" womanhood, the Woman Wisdom, or "harlotry" womanhood, the
Woman of Folly–oh how Proverbs hates and fetishizes her! An interesting thought written about this
very idea comes from Claudia Camp, a professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Texas Christian
University. Camp wrote, "Along with her counterpart, Woman Stranger [Woman Folly, in my
paper], she [Woman Wisdom] may be seen as part of patriarchy's perennial classification of all
women as either all–good or all–evil..." (Camp). This idea that woman (or maybe more universally
humans?) must live in either realm, not a middle is certainly interesting when considering what the
author is trying to convey about

The Book Of Proverbs By King Solomon
The book of Proverbs is a collection of proverbs, poems, and parables written by King Solomon in
efforts to teach wisdom to God's people. Although I would not deem myself to be an extremely
religious person, I believe I identify with with Proverbs the most because whether you are religious
or not this book of biblical wisdom teaches many moral lessons that can be applied for a better life
and connect with many contemporary issues. This is important on a grander scale as well because as
many people of my generation see the Bible as something that should only be read and applied to
your life if you believe in God, but these verses reveal that they can used to teach you how to live a
good life in this day of age regardless of religious background by looking at the Bible as a literary
source instead of solely just a religious one.
One of the most common contemporary issues today is relationships. King Solomon touches on the
idea of finding the perfect significant other when he states, "A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies" (New International Version, Proverbs 31:10). King Solomon is
saying that a woman of good honest character is more valuable than any material object. You could
have an influx of riches and a sexy model girlfriend, but what does it matter if she is constantly
cheating on you with other men and using you for your money. I closely identify with this excerpt in
particular because it applies to my generation's relationship

up with a variety of answers. However, answers to these questions can also be seen in the Bible
through books that are defined as wisdom literature, or literature that gives thought to "universal,
humanistic, and philosophical standpoints" (Dell 1). We can especially see these questions answered
in unique ways through Job, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs. Job as a whole address the why's of life, but
when taking a look at a specific chapter of Job it can be seen

Judging Words and Not Appearances
The proverb, "Examine what is said, not him who speaks", comes from Arab and is stated to learn
more about it and it's meaning. It means, in other words, that the quality of a citizen's character and
their knowledge comes before their clothing, appearance, and their skin color. The stated proverb
comes from the place of Arab. Arab consists of twenty–two countries total and contains a population
of three hundred sixty–six million people. This proverb fits society's beliefs today because there is
currently still racism around the world even though men and women, of each and every race, are
created equally. People need to include the proverb into their lives to improve the society's all

The citizens in the communities around this area, especially in St. Louis, have noticed and observed
the racism towards mostly African Americans because of some shootings. African Americans, today,
feel hate and started a movement to present how they feel and their lives matter as well (Beck).
These black citizens want everyone in the area to open their minds and ears and listen for a moment
about how they feel. The movement connects to the proverb because they want the world to examine
them for their knowledge and words and not how they look or what their skin color is. Also, most of
the black citizens are friendly and calm towards everyone else, including the white citizens, but still
some white citizens don't care about that and only care about their looks. For instance, "... they are
black Americans who feel disenfranchised and aggrieved; they are believers; they are my neighbors
and my fellow citizens" (Beck). Most white citizens are not racist but

Analysis of the Gospel John 1:1-6 Comparsion Genesis 1 and...
Analysis of the Gospel of John 1:1–6 and its comparison with Genesis 1 and 2: 1–3 and Proverbs 8
gives us insight into how a Christian text references Hebrew texts implicitly and explicitly. In
chapter one, verse 1–6, of the Gospel of John, we not only witness the explicit references from
Genesis and Proverbs, but also see how different ideas present in the two Hebrew texts have been
reframed by the Gospel of John. We see a highlight of this reframing in the verse one of the Gospel
of John, which states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God." In this verse, for instance, the notion of "The Word" is, one could argue, similar in its
meaning and connotation to the idea of "Wisdom" present in ... Show more content on

Thus, the idea of Word in verses 1 through 3 of Gospel does in reframes the notion of Wisdom from
Proverbs 8 in Verses 1 through 2 and 22 through 30.
On delving further into the deconstruction of the verses 1 though 5 of the Gospel, we witness the
reframing of some more concepts from Genesis, chapter 1 and 2, and Proverbs, chapter 8. For
instance, in the Gospel the idea of creation if mentioned in the following way: "All things came into
being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4 in
him was life, and the life was the lights of all people" (John 1:3–4) While the discussion of creation
in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis is quite comprehensive and includes details, the gospel references to
the same concept of creation, but keeps it succinct and terse. The reference to creation depicted in
the Gospel could also be traced to the verses 24 through 29 in the Proverbs, which also present an
account of hoe God created heavens and the earth, and the things that exist in between them.
Moving on to the verse 5 of the Gospel of John, we see a mention of the dichotomy of light and
darkness. This dichotomized concept of light and dark is resented in the following words, "the light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." (John 1:5) This idea seems to have
been a reframing of the concept of light and darkness in the Genesis chapter of the Hebrew text,
which is phrased in the following

Proverbs in Things Fall Apart
Proverbs are wise sayings that address the heart of the discourse in any given context, truthfully and
objectively. In Africa and in Nigerian cultures especially, they are considered the reliable horses,
which convey meanings to their destinations or hearts of the listeners. This study investigates
aspects of the meaning of proverbs in the work of a Nigerian author, Achebe's Things Fall Apart. It
is contended that meanings of Nigerian proverbs can be worked out within the semantic, referential,
ideational, stimulus–response, realist and contextual theories. Types of meaning and proverbs are
addressed and situated within the two works. It is advanced that proverbs play significant roles in

Theory: Stimulus–Response Types: Denotative, Affective. Analysis: There is a tact advice almost
coinciding with the English proverb, "one good turn deserves another" here. If a person accords
honor or reverence to the successful ones, it is likely that he is also going to be successful. In other
words, the sense of the proverb is that a person who helps another man helps himself indirectly as he
gets familiar with what that man engages in – and this will ultimately lead him also to greatness,
directly or indirectly. 5 A toad does not run in the daytime for nothing.15 Theory: Ideational Types:
Denotative/Stylistic Analysis: The proverb tasks our mental conception or general knowledge of the
toad as a nocturnal animal. If such an animal therefore does "run" (a lexical item preferred by the
author for metaphorical or stylistic effect, against the normal collocative word, "jump") in the day,
there must be something amiss. The sense of the proverb is that there is a cause for anything strange
that happens; there must be a reason, at least "no smoke without fire". A toad running in daytime is
probably pursuing something or certainly something is pursuing it. It has to do with the "cause–
effect" relationship. An old woman is always uneasy when dry bones are mentioned in a

started by excluding friends from our group that we had been friends with forever, and there was not
a reason for this. As the friends of mine, who were being excluded started to notice the distance we
created from them, I let myself be persuaded into doing what I know wasn't the right thing, I was
hurting them. I started to constantly feel guilty about completely cutting them off for no reason.
After about three girls were kicked out of our group, I started to hear in great detail, a tremendous
amount of gossip going on about one another. When these types of situations would occur I tried
convincing myself that they weren't doing anything wrong, that talking behind their backs was not a
bad thing. It would play back and forth in my mind with me thinking, do I listen to the inside voice

Examples Of Greediness In The Book Of Proverbs
Greediness
In the book of proverbs we are given advice to help us in our daily lives. An important theme in
proverbs is greediness. Greediness in this generation is very common especially in adolescents.
Most teenagers these days are more concerned about what's in the media and what the new trend is.
For example the hover–boards, phone accessories, jewelry, lipsticks, makeup, etc. In our generation
everyone thinks that if you have the latest gadget or trend you are popular, but that is where
everyone misses the point. In reality none of these things matter, what really matters is your
character, morality, etc. It is more important to please God than your friends. In an episodes of

This verse applies to me as a 7th grader because this year was filled with a lot of difficult situations
and a lot of temptations to sin. I learned that when I let myself in the gossip and all the middle
school drama I ended up losing because I didn't learn anything valuable and I could easily be
blamed for something I did not do. When I stopped paying attention to what was going on with
people that didn't concern me or affected my life I was better off because I was focused more on
myself than other people.
A proverb that relates to me as a seventh grader is ,"an inheritance gained hastily in the beginning
will not be blessed in the end". I refer to this verse throughout the week a lot because it has a lot of
meaning. For me it means that if I rush all my homework at once and I don't check it to make sure I
got anything wrong or something that I need to change, and I just get it all done in less then 15
minutes I'm obviously going to get a bad grade because I didn't put any effort in to it. So everyday

Proverrbs On Crooked By Education
While there are many proverbs in the world, there is one that sticks out the most,'Crooked by nature
is never made straight by education' which is a proverb that originated from Italy. This proverb
means that if from birth a person is twisted, in the sense that they are bad, will never be fixed. It fits
in today, or the past, because so many people are born with a corrupted mind set, and the education
system tries to fix it, but will fail. Thus this proverb can be seen in the past, with Luis Garavito and
Ted Bundy, and in literature including Stephen King's 11/22/63, and finally today ISIS gives
examples of this proverb.

Muslims, who are believers of Islam, are heavily dedicated to Allah, or their god. "The atomistic
metaphysics of the Ash'arites created a fatal breach between cause and effect in the natural world.
Fire does not burn cotten; God does. Gravity does not make rocks fall; God does. To say that a rock
fall because of gravity is an act of shirk..."(Reilly) Shirk, as stated in the evidence, means to neglect
or avoid a duty or responsibility. Which means that muslims have to believe that Allah causes
everything. Along with believing that everything is caused by Allah, they also think that their death
is what Allah wants as well. "Speak with any American soldiers who have served with Iraqi troops,
and you will find that the Iraqis will resist things as simple as wearing seatbelts or kevlar vests...if
my time has come as decreed by Allah, the seat belt or the kevlar vest is not going to save me. If my
assigned time has not come, why do I need to use the seat belt or wear a kevlar vest"(Reilly).
Because they think that death will come to them no matter what, and in anyway shape or form. This
kind of thinking makes them blame ISIS murders on Allah, or ISIS's attacks saying that that's what
Allah wants. ISIS also believes that Allah will punish anyone who has sinned, and reward those who
haven't. "Whether it is an Asian tsunami or American hurricane, Ash'arite muslims will explain it in
terms of God's punishing sinners for their disobedience. Therefore Allah punished the United States
with Hurricane Katrina for its interference in the muslim world. Also, Allah placed the oil under the
sand of the Arabian Peninsula as a reward for following strict sharia law"(Reilly). Again, with that
kind of thinking, ISIS can say that Allah told them to attack the US, or other countries. Them

Marilyn Monroe Proverbs
"Do not protect yourself by a fence but rather by your friends" is a proverb lived by many people
who have struggled with addiction and thoughts of suicide. This proverb originated from the people
in Czech. Ranked at the 6th most peaceful country in the world, the people in this country are very
friendly with each other though they had once been captivated by German infidels in 1945. The
proverb can be reworded in many ways but mostly by stating don't fight battles by yourself. Still
being used today the proverb helps people suffering from mental illnesses.
Marilyn Monroe was one who should have followed this proverb, she was depressed and saw no

was because their were pill bottles found next to her bed and mental instability ran in her family

Two Women in Proverbs 9 Essay
Two Women in Proverbs 9 Proverbs has always been one of the most renowned and loved books of
the Bible. According to the prologue, it was written "to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge
and prudence to the young" (1.4), and to "let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the
discerning acquire skill" (1.5). It is primarily addressed to young men, as the author makes frequent
references to "my son" throughout. The purpose of this book was to help prepare young men for
leadership and life. A proverb, which serves the purpose of drawing a comparison between two
forms of behavior to teach moral wisdom, explicitly fulfills its role in particularly chapter 9 of
Proverbs. In light of this father–to–son instruction, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reward of the assiduous will far exceed that of the indolent in the long run. Lady Wisdom and
Lady Folly not only own their own homes, but they are situated at "the highest places in the town"
(9.3, 9.14). Because both women dwell at the promontories of their respective cities, they are able to
look out and gain a perspective that is much broader than those who are standing on level ground.
They have the advantage of being able to observe other people and what they are doing. By being
able to observe others' every move, their neighbors are at their most vulnerable state without even
being aware of it themselves. Lady Folly uses her advantageous location to remember the
weaknesses of others that she catches and files them in her memory storage for later use. While
Lady Folly uses young men's weaknesses by using them against them solely for her own gain, Lady
Wisdom selflessly uses her high promontory for the benefit of others. She uses the information she
learns, to teach others their mistakes and to help them in any way she can. The speaker is portraying
the importance of leadership–that instead of being consumed with their own selves, the young men
must also be able to pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses to help them, not to use against them.
The next similarity that these women share is that they both call out to people, inviting them over to

Proverbs is a book based on metaphor. It is packed with word–pictures of universal truths.
Throughout Proverbs, wisdom is anthropomorphized as a woman. As early as Proverbs 1:20,
wisdom is compared to a woman who shouts in the streets, chastising fools and scoffers. Proverbs
31 provides a detailed metaphor of feminine wisdom in the context of a family and a community.
A good, supportive, trusting wife is a blessing to a man. A woman who partners with her husband,
who is reliable and looks out for his interests, gives a man a security that is greatly lacking in the

Thesis Statement : Proverbs Of Hell By William Blake
THESIS STATEMENT: In "Proverbs of Hell," William Blake writes strongly philosophical proverbs
without the orientation of religious or traditional beliefs. He challenges the popular views of
society's beliefs.
Often when we are bound by rules, we feel trapped and helpless. The author shows a unique angle
by going against the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Blakes's proverbs are liberating and provide
many separate ideas, which can be read together as a theme. Blake's style allows us the opportunity
to go off conscious control and allows our thoughts to float freely thereby expressing what is on our
minds.
Blake believes that if we do things excessively, we will become wise and have a wealth of
knowledge. In line one, "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." It implies that a goal
driven persistence pays off a greater price. It compare and intersect "excess" and "wisdom" in this
proverb as of excess leads to several places and would open one up to the pursuit of wisdom. In the
palace of wisdom, an overflowing wealth of knowledge and understanding is found. When we think
from a traditional point of view, there are few places where the road of excess leads, but wisdom is
not one of them.
Dreams without goals remain dreams and may lead to disappointments. In line two, "He who desires
but acts not, breeds pestilence." Blake is not sugarcoating here. Goals on the road to achievement
cannot be fulfilled without discipline. If we want something, we should not repress our

BIBLICAL WOMANHOOD BASED ON PROVERBS 31
INTRODUCTION
As a fairly young girl, in my early twenties, I read Proverbs 31. Not that that was the first time I was
reading it. It just happened that this time, it so captivated and impressed me that I found myself
praying it back to God on an almost daily basis after that. I desperately desired to be like this woman
of noble character candidly described in Proverbs 31. Could it be that having just come out of that
age and season of teenage and adolescence I had increasingly become aware of my femaleness and
hence my womanhood? Could it be that I was unconsciously reaching out for an anchor by which to
measure my womanhood? Was it the inner realization that I was falling far too short of God's will
and expectation of me as a woman, at least from my point of view? What would it take to be the
godly woman God wanted me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let me say that having done this study a number of years now with young women, and having had
to check what God was also saying to me, I realized the need to put on paper the various aspects of
the godly woman that God had revealed to us from His Word in a way that the young woman on
campus or college, and the young single and married woman can identify with and work towards, as
I said earlier, in the spirited endeavor to align her life to what God is saying; a gesture that honors
the lord through obeying his word
Secondly, I must say I have been a beneficiary of the writings by godly women from the west. Their
books have been an immense blessing to me. I however began to realize that there didn't seem to be
a book based on Proverbs 31 written in our African context addressing our realities; at least not in
the way I was seeking to have these realities addressed. As I sought to contextualize the book I was
using to suit and address the young women's needs, the thoughts of someday writing a book on this
chapter began to solidify in my

Franklins Preface To Poor Rich Essay
In Benjamin Franklin’s preface to Poor Richard Improved, "The Way to
Wealth", Franklin offers many adages to help the reader conserve money. Many of these
sayings are common even today. The title of this preface makes since because the title, "The
Way to Wealth", can be interpreted as The Road to Wealth. If the reader does as these adages
tell them, he or she should be on their way to wealth. Franklin offers advice to just about anybody.
Franklin believed that wealth was important because it led to both frugality and industry. Frugality
and industry were listed as his fifth and sixth virtues.
Franklin tells us that in order to be industrious, we must always be employed in something useful.
His proverb, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Franklin tells us that in order to be frugal, we can’t waste anything. People who spend
lavishly should listen to the maxim, "Silks and Satins, Scarlet and Velvets put out the Kitchen
Fire". This saying reminds us that the nice, expensive things all work just as well as the
generic ones. Another proverb that a person with no frugality should abide by is, "Women and
Wine, Game and Deceit, Make the Wealth small, and the Wants great." This is one I can
definitely relate to. Women, wine, and playing around all do put a dent in your pocket book.
"Early to Bed, and Early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy, and wise", is another I
can relate to. This maxim is directed to all slothful people. My constant tardiness proves my laziness
and my need to abide by this one. Another similar adage is, "Plough deep, While Sluggards
sleep, and you should have Corn to sell and to keep." Both of these maxims tell us that in
order to get ahead, you can’t be lazy.
Franklin believed that a person that listens to the sayings would avoid being poor. He wrote that
poverty robs a person of their spirit and virtue. His proverb, "‘Tis hard for an
empty bag to stand upright", lets us know that it is hard to function with no spirit or virtues. I
would suggest reading this preface to anyone who has problems with money. The sayings still hold
true in today’s society. Many

The Book Of Proverbs: The Teachings Of Hebrew Wisdom
There are several books in the Bible that teach different things and speak differently to each reader.
However, there are certain books that stand out in particular; for example, Proverbs. This book is
one of the greatest books in the Bible! Reason being, is it teaches and informs of Hebrew wisdom. It
explains the teaching of wisdom and how it relates to a persons everyday life. The book of Proverbs
really explains the fact that the key to wisdom and knowledge is fearing the Lord. Therefore, a
person needs to be reliant on the Lord and try to make every decision based on what the Lord wants

Furthermore, "a theme throughout the book is that a person's well–being directly relates to the
choices he or she makes" (Branch, 2012, p. 8). In this book, of the Bible, it proclaims the picture of
Christ is to be the wisdom if God. Furthermore, "Jesus is the ultimate expression of Gods wisdom"

failings in a person's life. Hindson and Yates describe it as a person making wrong decisions even if
the right decision is known by the person (Hindson & Yates, 2012). Hindson and Yates also state
that "indeed, the greatest folly would be for a man not to enjoy the few short years that God has

The Form And The Literary Style Of Wisdom

Wisdom literature within the Old Testament consists of a broad collection of books that reflect on
Israel's religious faith. Within the Catholic designation, seven books that of Proverbs, Job, Psalms,
Ecclesiastes (Qoheleth) Song of Songs, Sirach and Wisdom are proffered. These books differ in both
style and subject matter, nonetheless they share common characteristics which distinguish them
from other biblical books. Wisdom has a focus on divine salvation proclaimed by the Torah and

Solomon not written down until two centuries later in the time of King Hezekiah of Judah. Other
smaller collections are attributed to wise teachers and kings. Proverbs is a book largely made up of
maxims or in Hebrew the mashal. The sayings within offer a key to proper conduct in the course of
daily living and cover everything from table manners to sexual behaviour in setting forth the norms
for a good life. It is based on the reverence for God and obedience to his laws with the "fear of the
Lord" the essence of all true human wisdom. The origins of the Wisdom (personified as a woman)
literature are often identified with court circles where young men were trained in the discipline and
skills of royal life. Israel was not alone in this with many example of this type of wisdom on other
Near Eastern culture. Education was seen as valid and applicable to much of life's circumstances and
suitable to that of a postexilic monarchy. It is generally alleged that it was after this period that
'proverbs' were collected and edited. It is proposed that some of the collections of proverbs
originated within family and

Analysis of Proverbs 31
The "Worthy Woman;" what a title. Everyone who has some knowledge of the Bible has heard this
phrase. Almost anyone can name some catchy phrase or saying that is from the Bible whether it is
from the Psalms or Proverbs or any other book. We all know those verses that tend to get stuck in
our mind. However catchy they may be, unless one actually comes to an understanding of what is
being said and applies it to their lives, these catchy phrases can just be surface knowledge. Every
Christian can get caught in that trap. When someone is considering a Bible passage they should try
to learn everything they can about that passage; any background information, what certain words
mean, who the author is. The knowledge one can gain from the ... Show more content on

Lemuel's mother asks, "An excellent wife who can find?" The verses following that question give
descriptions of this most excellent wife that it seems nobody can find. This passage is not just
speaking to women, but to men also. Obviously, Lemuel's mother was talking to him, a man, when
speaking these words. Most people these days see it as a passage of characteristics women should
try to mirror. Not to say that that is not true, but this passage can also be read by men to give them a
picture of what kind of a godly woman they should be searching for. Many of these qualities the
woman possesses would be good for the man to possess too. The English word virtue is what most
Bibles have translated the original word describing this woman into. But, according to Greenstone
the original meaning of the word contains much more meaning. It denotes energy, capacity, and
goodness (333). The first six verses, starting with verse ten, have this overall idea of her home and
household and how she handles the needs of it. She is so good, that her worth is more valuable than
rubies (KJV). Rubies today are expensive, so they had to be much more expensive in the days that
this was written. So, basically she is priceless (v. 10). Verse 11 brings the husband into context
stating that he trusts her so much that he knows he will never lack gain. It does not just say that her

The Book of Proverbs Essay
The Book of Proverbs
The book of Proverbs explains the wisdom of the Lord and the duties towards God and our parents.
We should praise God for his wisdom because He created us and the world. God tells us that we
need to be prepared when we serve Him because He will judge us when we die. We need to accept
whatever falls upon us and make the best of it like God would want us to do. The book of Proverbs
tells us that we need to cling on to Him which to me that means we should follow His teachings and
do whatever it takes to be with God so we can share in
God's life in heaven. When something bad happens to us and we don't know how to handle it we can
always pray to God for help, instead of doing what may seem right to ... Show more content on

That to me is one of the biggest commandments that God gave us. In chapter four it talks about the
poor. I think that most of the poor did not choose the way they live but they do need our help most
of all.
We can help the poor by not turning away from them but by helping them with what they need, like
giving them food or water, by giving them shelter and clothes, and by helping them turn to God for
help too because that way they can try and live the way God wants them to live. There are also poor
people who bring it onto themselves by maybe dropping out of school, quitting their jobs, running
away from their homes, and by taking big risks. But they too need help and we can help them by
doing all that we can for them. Chapter four also talks about the rewards of wisdom. I know that if
we help people who need help then God will in return will let us be with him in heaven. But if we
don't then we will eventually regret the things that we could of done in our lives on earth when we
are judged. We also need to ignore the evils so that we don't fall into sin.
God tells us not to show favoritism because it is to our own discredit. I think when we do show
favoritism that is when people will use us and that is when it is to our discredit. He also tells us that
we should not refrain from speaking at the proper time and not hide our wisdom. God wants us to
use our wisdom and our talents that is why he gave them to

Exegesis Of Proverbs 31

  • 1. Exegesis Of Proverbs 31 Exegesis of Proverbs 31 Woman The qualities of good entrepreneurs are closely analogous to those found in Proverbs 31:10–31. The pericope, Proverbs 31 is perceived extraordinarily and equivocally, since it proposes that a capable wife is tough to find and still the verse immediately continues to praise one. This one woman may be the 'perfect' wife that one man cannot find. Still, even if she is a challenge to find, she is probably working hard to achieve that patriarchal goal. Verses 14 and 16 describe that a woman working hard everywhere is like doing everything that needs to be done. In verses 12, 15b, 20, 21b, 24b, and 27a, a woman works hard starting from sunrise (verse 15a) to sundown (verse 18b). Many societies might well be apprehensive that Proverbs 31:10–31 describes an immaculate and inventive woman was designed in a patriarchal perspective. These above apprehensions are genuine. Still, there is a lot to understand what the Scripture is actually saying. Passing the life of the biblical world through the fire of homiletical thought tells me more, however, than just apprehensions about patriarchy in Proverbs 31:10–31. Truthfully, while focusing on the biblical world and the specific world of Proverbs, I discover there are two significant elements about that particular verse which describes the proficient wife where she looks after her family and home. Below are my two exegetical observations: First, this Proverbs 31 painstaking woman is exactly described as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Proverbs Essay Proverbs: Choice and Discernment, the Two Ways of Living In studying the book of Proverbs there is a similar theme of choice and discernment, the teachings of decision–making and the repercussions of your actions. These books are made up of extremes and polar opposites. The dualisms are the rich and poor, the righteous and the wicked, and the wise and the foolish. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they will fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person's discernment and ultimate choice to which one they will get to live. This paper will focus on Proverbs 10, 12, and 14, Solomon's Proverbs, to display this theme of choice and discernment. Proverb 10 is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The passage is most explicit to what will actually happen if a man chooses the wrong kind of wife. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be rewarded for acting wisely. "If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune" (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will come into wealth and get what you are after in life. "Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term, however, for the English word connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than gradual consequences". This passage is showing that there is not just consequences, there are rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about choosing which way of life suits you; in all cases, having better judgment and being righteous will always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this dualistic approach on advice. "Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness" (14:1). This passage is very interesting because Proverbs has been directed mainly to men, and this is telling the men that their women are wise. It would be foolish to not listen to a woman. • 7. Job Proverbs, Ecclesiastes And The books of Wisdom : Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs are hugely different from the preceding books of history. They focus on raising questions about God, creation itself, humanity and the essence of evil and suffering. In Job, we see one of the most famous individuals in the Old Testament. His continual struggles and trials cause him to call out to God for answers, and he receives one in Job 40:2 "Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?He who rebukes God, let him answer it." It's hard to read of Job's suffering and crying out to God without questioning why God would let him suffer, but it does show us the peace that can be found in recognizing God's sovereignty. In Psalms, we see a collection of lyrical poetry, songs and prayers. Many of these were written by King David himself. The book covers almost the entire gamut of human emotion, from sorrow to joy, from doubt to faith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in Proverbs 10:4–5, we see that working hard will lead us to a better life, but slacking off will cause us shame. In Ecclesiastes: we have Solomon's (generally agreed upon to be the author) analysis of life. It seems cynical, but overall the message of the book is hope in God. In Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 we get Solomon's basic lesson to those who are seeking a full and abundant life " Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing,Whether good or evil." In Song of Songs, we see another lyrical, poetic book. This book is only one of two in the Bible that do not mention God directly. It gives us an insight on how love, marriage and even sex are to be viewed and practiced in a loving Christian home. Proverbs And Proverbs Of Culture The National Center for Cultural Competence defines culture. as an "integrated pattern of human behavior that includes thoughts, communications, languages, practices, beliefs, values, customs, courtesies, rituals, manners of interacting and roles, relationships and expected behaviors of a racial, ethnic, religious or social group; and the ability to transmit the above to succeeding generation. This means that language is not only part of how we define culture, it also reflects culture. • 11. The Is An Old Proverb Where there is a will, there is a way "Where there is a will, there is a way" is an old proverb which almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if you are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and you will find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful. And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goal or dream in our lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of ... • 13. The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew canon, is a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no mention of the Israelite forefathers, God's promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite history. Similar to Job and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus on patterns of life to observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The purpose of Proverbs is to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word "wisdom" (hokmah in Hebrew) occurs thirty–nine times and the adjective "wise" (hakam) forty–seven times throughout the 31 chapters. The scope of wisdom applied in the Book of Proverbs ranges from wealth to work to the words we speak, encompassing nearly every aspect of life. Literary Form ... Certain proverbs are experiential, "telling it the way it is," more practically than theoretically. At other times, the biblical saying goes beyond mere observation, to urge a certain course of action. Portions of the Proverbs may have been assembled due to a desire on the part of later scribes to preserve Israelite traditional wisdom, which was in danger of being forgotten. The poetic form provided mnemonic value, as short, pithy sayings lent themselves more favorably to memorization, securing their transmission to future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A critical element that makes great contribution to this special appeal is the use of proverbs, especially ones containing the word "dogs". This kind of animals has been friends with human beings since the early days of history. Therefore, it is easy to understand why they appear with high frequency in the collection of proverbs in the two languages. According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, a dog is " a common animal with four legs, especially kept by people as a pet to hunt or guard things. In addition, it is used to refer to "a person who is unpleasant and not to be trusted." That is the definition in the dictionary, in real–life situation, there are a number of other feelings and thoughts about dogs. In some situations, dogs can be human beings' friends, companions and soul mates. As Rogers ( 2010) states in his book, what we count on in life is our dogs' love and trust as we are people who fully comprehend their feelings and emotion (p. 4). In addition, in some occasions, due to this intimate friendship, Westerners tend to regard dogs as a human being ( Rogers, 2010, p.8). These special four–leg friends have so many great virtues that they usually appear in English proverbs with positive images. For example, people say " a dog is a man's best friend" because they believe that dogs are undeniably loyal and devoted to their owners ( Manser, 2002, p.58). In addition, according to Whiting ( 1977), the proverb " every dog has its day" carries an implication about the assurance that every person has period of wealth, affluence and power in life. Therefore, the image of the dog gives the lowest and unluckiest amongst individuals the hope of being successful sooner or later in life. Another positive aspect of dog proverbs is also illustrated by the saying " a good dog deserves a bone" (Apperson & Manser, 2007, p.150). It is essential to acknowledge that there is cultural viewpoints on the way people treat dogs. Westerners believe that dogs need to be treated with love and affection hence it is appropriate for them to be rewarded with their favorite gifts. Similar to the proverb " One good turn deserves another", this dog proverb indicates that once you do something good, you are eligible for another good thing. The positive image ... Characterizing his book, Toward an Interpretation of the Book of Proverbs: Selfishness and Secularity Reconsidered, as standing in line with canonical interpretation, Zoltán S. Schwáb takes careful heed to the possibilities of theological reflections of the Book of Proverbs in resonance with its canonical context and the church tradition. As a consequence of his focus on theological, constant self–reflection, he leaves behind the historical quests to find out original settings/meanings, redactional layers, or compositional development of the book. His efforts is attuned to understand the text rather than to know. He, in this way, contributes to constructing a theology of Proverbs. In this book, Schwáb delves into two major topics that he ... "This principle is subordinated to the higher ends like living in community and knowing God (95)." Virtues guide one to comprehend the right hierarchy of ends. Among virtues of Thomas' thinking, Schwáb understands, the virtue of prudence is parallel to the practical admonition of Proverbs. And this prudence "is the right sort of (practical) self–love, the self–love which is beneficial for the individual, the human community, and also for the relationship of humans with God." "The natural inclination for Self–preservation and the priority of self–love does not mean selfishness (98)" in Thomistic moral theology. Schwáb's systematic analysis on Deuteronomy presents that the motive clauses in Deuteronomy are about effectiveness and long life that are not indifferent from Proverbs' self–interest. Reading Proverbs 1–9 as the context of Proverbs' sentence–literature levels out the seeming non–Yahwistic characters of Proverbs. These results allow Schwáb to view that Proverbs is no more self–interested than the rest of the Bible. He goes on to say that the honor as a result of wise life and the openness of better–than sayings allude to Proverbs' search for non–material gains, the search that is similarly visible in Thomistic system. Modem Feminist approaches [c. 1000 words] Discussing the contemporary sociological perspective of modern feminism to 'divine' wisdom should involve a brief overview of the theology's focus. McGrath suggests that 'Feminism is a global movement, arguing for gender equality and a right understanding of the relationship between women and men to be affirmed by contemporary theology and practice' (McGrath, 2011: p.88). Thus, when discussing wisdom in the scriptures the feminists are observing how gender is represented and the effect of this representation upon helping or hindering a 'right relationship' between the genders. Rather it compels us to continue the struggle with conventional masculine language for God and the exclusivist authoritarian functions and implications of such language. Feminist theology must rearticulate the symbols, images, and names of Divine Sophia in the context of our own experiences and theological struggles in such a way that the ossified and absolutized masculine language about God and Christ is radically questioned and undermined and the Western cultural sex/gender system is radically deconstructed (Fiorenza, 1995: p.162). Therefore Fiorenza believes that the language signifying feminine impetus of God is a way of realising gender equality and thus a better understanding of the relationship between genders which has been oppressed too long by the over emphasis on masculinity. Fiorenza further explains that without the 'loving attention and divine care' as 'embodied and made present in the figure of Divine Sophia' the true meaning of the Father is diminished (Fiorenza, 1995: p.154) Another feminist theologian, Johnson, also suggests that reclaiming the feminine Wisdom could challenge the patriarchy embedded in classical Christology. The Book Of Proverbs By Sam Maxwell Essay Sam Maxwell The Guide To Life: The Book of Proverbs Sam Maxwell Period 5 December 9, 2016 Bible Project The book that I studied was the Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is part of the Books of Wisdom in the Old Testament of The Bible. The books in the wisdom section of The Bible (includes the book of Job, Psalms, Proverbs,Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Book of Wisdom and Sirach) are meant to try and spread wisdom to the reader and show the right way, or better ways to live your life in faith. The book of Proverbs is made up of guides on how to live a faithful life, and how to deal with different situations that you may come across in your life. Proverbs is a collection of instructions and sayings composed into a book (usccb.org, 2016). The Book of Proverbs is made up of both long and short guides to life that have to deal with certain situations. These passages can range from a length of seven verses to thirteen chapters. The situations that are written about are very common in today's society. These situations that are written about in Proverbs range from laziness to laughter. Proverbs includes two types of writings: long instructions that are addressed to younger people and shorter sayings that are meant for all ages. Meaning Of Proverbs Each and every proverb has its own meaning and can only be used in particular situations, many times, the meaning of a proverb is not obvious and this is why knowing all necessary information about isabout is of the utmost importance. Using proverbs in text or in speech incorrectly may cause misunderstandings and confusion. Norick (1985) marks two levels of comprehension: literal and figurative (implied). The former relates more to proverbs that can be understood on literal level, e.g. Like mother, like daughter (Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs 2004), the literal meaning of this proverb is 'mother and daughter are alike', there is nothing metaphorical in it and it is understood literally, the letter, however, is more sophisticated when it ... Worth mentioning is the fact that proverb can have direct and indirect didactic tendency. Nevertheless, all proverbs can be considered as a didactic tool in particular context (Norrick op. cit.). There is relatively little and seldom convincing evidence about their origin. They appeared in literary form, and are in most of the cases and adaptation of the oral communication. The proverbs have been transmitted from generation to generation, until they were recorded as being a national treasure. Each country has its own proverbs that represent the culture [16]. It is also said that the proverbs are so old that they are going out of fashion or changing into clichés but still they have a very important role for the language. Most of the proverbs have unknown authors. It is told that the origin of proverbs can be traced back to the time when lived Aristotle. Many proverbs and sayings have their origin in Bible and other kinds of holly books. The origin of proverbs can be also traced according to the earliest Sumerian cuneiform tablets (2500 B. C. ) which gave grammatical rules in proverbs, and the philosophical writings of Aristotle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 27. Comparing The Book Of Proverbs And Ecclesiastes Looking at the books of wisdom of the Old Testament, the ideas of diligence and laziness have been greatly captured. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which has been greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old Testament (Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined making them closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdom that have handled the two ideas in more expansive manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details. As stated above, the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes provide a wide description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a lazy person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy person who is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10–12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good can ever come out of them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious and valuable. Laziness is therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and no one should pay attention to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages us to pay more attention to the diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into practice; the results are good and much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. A Lexical Pragmatic Analysis of Proverbs in Femi... This essay is a pragmatic reading of moral and socio–political decadence in Femi Osofisan's Midnight Hotel. It does this by analyzing ten out of twenty–five proverbs deployed in the text. In analyzing the proverbs, this essay observes that each has at least an ad hoc constituent which requires semantic modulation to get at the meanings of the proverbs. This modulation is not arbitrary, but contextually negotiated until the reader reaches his optimal relevance. Wilson and Carston argue that metaphors are cases of ad hoc constructions (7), for instance, when a speaker says, 'The boy is a lion'. While a literary scholar would see this as metaphorical, Wilson and Carston believe that the above sentence is a case of the use of an ad hoc ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of such is with Ossie Onuorah Enekwe where he says that: To get desperately close to the spectator, to each and every one I have trapped in the darkness or half light, to penetrate very close and intimate, like a knife in the ribs. I want to make that spectator happy but uncomfortable. I want to turn him open, guts and all, spice him, cook him in the filthy, stinking broil of our history. I want him washed inside out, in the naked truth, and then I sew him back again a different man. (18) The playwright's closeness to a reader of Midnight Hotel is predicated on the contemporary subject matters raised in the text. It is true the essence of the play is to effect a social change (as it is with most literary works), but this change cannot occur if the reader finds it difficult to comprehend what the text says. Thus this essay lends a hand in that direction, by working out an easy, systematic, pragmatic format for understanding Osofisan's Midnight Hotel. Commenting on the playwright's art, Awodiya submits that "Osofisan is prolific and theatrically fertile in creating flexible dramatic forms that have great stage adaptability" (15). This proverb comes from Solomon and starts off with the difference between the foolish son and a wise son. The wise son gives joy to the to the parent whereas the foolish one brings sorrow. In the same sort of comparison continuing on with the foolish like the lazy and the wise like the diligent, the proverb continues on in saying that lazy people are quick to become poor and the diligent person who's hardworking will acquire wealth. Godly people get their direction from being honest, honesty also is the form which guidance is given but only to those who are good. So when it comes to integrity not being prideful, humility, honesty and godliness are key characteristics that one needs in order to maintain a good integrity fitting to the Lord. The Personification Of Sexuality In Proverbs By Keutvim Proverbs is an interesting book in the Ketuvim, as it is written seemingly in the form of a patriarchal system of father passing on wisdom to his son, but yet, one of the most vital pieces is the personification of Woman Wisdom. Not only are wisdom and folly personified as woman, there is an inherent sexual nature surrounding their personification–such as in 5:3, talking about the "immoral woman" and how her lips "drip honey", one cannot read these words without understanding the intertwining of intimacy and sexuality within it. This concept is further solidified not only for the Woman Folly, but also for our beloved Woman Wisdom, with the hyper–focus on the lips in 8:6, 16:23–24, and among many other places within the book. From 8:6 where "the opening of my lips will come right things" to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The personification of woman as wisdom and folly suggests a polarization that lives between the two worlds. Woman (or simply rather humans, I suggest woman because of the word choices that appear to assume life as seen through the lens of birth) cannot simply have a middle ground, they must play into the tropes of "good" womanhood, the Woman Wisdom, or "harlotry" womanhood, the Woman of Folly–oh how Proverbs hates and fetishizes her! An interesting thought written about this very idea comes from Claudia Camp, a professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Texas Christian University. Camp wrote, "Along with her counterpart, Woman Stranger [Woman Folly, in my paper], she [Woman Wisdom] may be seen as part of patriarchy's perennial classification of all women as either all–good or all–evil..." (Camp). This idea that woman (or maybe more universally humans?) must live in either realm, not a middle is certainly interesting when considering what the author is trying to convey about ... Although I would not deem myself to be an extremely religious person, I believe I identify with with Proverbs the most because whether you are religious or not this book of biblical wisdom teaches many moral lessons that can be applied for a better life and connect with many contemporary issues. This is important on a grander scale as well because as many people of my generation see the Bible as something that should only be read and applied to your life if you believe in God, but these verses reveal that they can used to teach you how to live a good life in this day of age regardless of religious background by looking at the Bible as a literary source instead of solely just a religious one. One of the most common contemporary issues today is relationships. King Solomon touches on the idea of finding the perfect significant other when he states, "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies" (New International Version, Proverbs 31:10). King Solomon is saying that a woman of good honest character is more valuable than any material object. Analysis of the Gospel of John 1:1–6 and its comparison with Genesis 1 and 2: 1–3 and Proverbs 8 gives us insight into how a Christian text references Hebrew texts implicitly and explicitly. In chapter one, verse 1–6, of the Gospel of John, we not only witness the explicit references from Genesis and Proverbs, but also see how different ideas present in the two Hebrew texts have been reframed by the Gospel of John. We see a highlight of this reframing in the verse one of the Gospel of John, which states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." On delving further into the deconstruction of the verses 1 though 5 of the Gospel, we witness the reframing of some more concepts from Genesis, chapter 1 and 2, and Proverbs, chapter 8. For instance, in the Gospel the idea of creation if mentioned in the following way: "All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4 in him was life, and the life was the lights of all people" (John 1:3–4) While the discussion of creation in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis is quite comprehensive and includes details, the gospel references to the same concept of creation, but keeps it succinct and terse. The reference to creation depicted in the Gospel could also be traced to the verses 24 through 29 in the Proverbs, which also present an account of hoe God created heavens and the earth, and the things that exist in between them. Moving on to the verse 5 of the Gospel of John, we see a mention of the dichotomy of light and darkness. This dichotomized concept of light and dark is resented in the following words, "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." In other words, the sense of the proverb is that a person who helps another man helps himself indirectly as he gets familiar with what that man engages in – and this will ultimately lead him also to greatness, directly or indirectly. 5 A toad does not run in the daytime for nothing.15 Theory: Ideational Types: Denotative/Stylistic Analysis: The proverb tasks our mental conception or general knowledge of the toad as a nocturnal animal. If such an animal therefore does "run" (a lexical item preferred by the author for metaphorical or stylistic effect, against the normal collocative word, "jump") in the day, there must be something amiss. The sense of the proverb is that there is a cause for anything strange that happens; there must be a reason, at least "no smoke without fire". A toad running in daytime is probably pursuing something or certainly something is pursuing it. It has to do with the "cause– effect" relationship. An old woman is always uneasy when dry bones are mentioned in a proverb.p.15 Theory: Stimulus – Response Types: Denotative/Thematic Analysis: This proverb also exhibits "causes–effect" ... My group of friends consisted of eight girls, but shortly changing to five girls as freshman year approached. My desire was to have a tight group of friends I could trust during my high school experience. The summer going into freshman year was smooth, no issues I had seemed to notice. My friends were the type of people I always wanted to be around, but I was oblivious to the fact my character was slowly changing. Winding down towards my the end of summer, along with freshman year approaching, things started to seem different. It started by excluding friends from our group that we had been friends with forever, and there was not a reason for this. As the friends of mine, who were being excluded started to notice the distance we created from them, I let myself be persuaded into doing what I know wasn't the right thing, I was hurting them. I started to constantly feel guilty about completely cutting them off for no reason. After about three girls were kicked out of our group, I started to hear in great detail, a tremendous amount of gossip going on about one another. When these types of situations would occur I tried convincing myself that they weren't doing anything wrong, that talking behind their backs was not a bad thing. It would play back and forth in my mind with me thinking, do I listen to the inside voice that's saying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Examples Of Greediness In The Book Of Proverbs Greediness In the book of proverbs we are given advice to help us in our daily lives. An important theme in proverbs is greediness. Greediness in this generation is very common especially in adolescents. Most teenagers these days are more concerned about what's in the media and what the new trend is. For example the hover–boards, phone accessories, jewelry, lipsticks, makeup, etc. In our generation everyone thinks that if you have the latest gadget or trend you are popular, but that is where everyone misses the point. In reality none of these things matter, what really matters is your character, morality, etc. It is more important to please God than your friends. All a person should want and need is good character, morality, and a strong relationship with God. This verse applies to me as a 7th grader because this year was filled with a lot of difficult situations and a lot of temptations to sin. I learned that when I let myself in the gossip and all the middle school drama I ended up losing because I didn't learn anything valuable and I could easily be blamed for something I did not do. When I stopped paying attention to what was going on with people that didn't concern me or affected my life I was better off because I was focused more on myself than other people. A proverb that relates to me as a seventh grader is ,"an inheritance gained hastily in the beginning will not be blessed in the end". I refer to this verse throughout the week a lot because it has a lot of meaning. For me it means that if I rush all my homework at once and I don't check it to make sure I got anything wrong or something that I need to change, and I just get it all done in less then 15 minutes I'm obviously going to get a bad grade because I didn't put any effort in to it. Proverrbs On Crooked By Education While there are many proverbs in the world, there is one that sticks out the most,'Crooked by nature is never made straight by education' which is a proverb that originated from Italy. This proverb means that if from birth a person is twisted, in the sense that they are bad, will never be fixed. It fits in today, or the past, because so many people are born with a corrupted mind set, and the education system tries to fix it, but will fail. Thus this proverb can be seen in the past, with Luis Garavito and Ted Bundy, and in literature including Stephen King's 11/22/63, and finally today ISIS gives examples of this proverb. Luis Garavito, a colombian serial murderer and rapist who was convicted of nearly 200 murders. Garavito had a rough life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Muslims, who are believers of Islam, are heavily dedicated to Allah, or their god. "The atomistic metaphysics of the Ash'arites created a fatal breach between cause and effect in the natural world. Fire does not burn cotten; God does. Gravity does not make rocks fall; God does. To say that a rock fall because of gravity is an act of shirk..."(Reilly) Shirk, as stated in the evidence, means to neglect or avoid a duty or responsibility. Which means that muslims have to believe that Allah causes everything. Along with believing that everything is caused by Allah, they also think that their death is what Allah wants as well. "Speak with any American soldiers who have served with Iraqi troops, and you will find that the Iraqis will resist things as simple as wearing seatbelts or kevlar vests...if my time has come as decreed by Allah, the seat belt or the kevlar vest is not going to save me. If my assigned time has not come, why do I need to use the seat belt or wear a kevlar vest"(Reilly). Because they think that death will come to them no matter what, and in anyway shape or form. This kind of thinking makes them blame ISIS murders on Allah, or ISIS's attacks saying that that's what Allah wants. ISIS also believes that Allah will punish anyone who has sinned, and reward those who haven't. "Whether it is an Asian tsunami or American hurricane, Ash'arite muslims will explain it in terms of God's punishing sinners for their disobedience. Therefore Allah punished the United States with Hurricane Katrina for its interference in the muslim world. Also, Allah placed the oil under the sand of the Arabian Peninsula as a reward for following strict sharia law"(Reilly). This proverb originated from the people in Czech. The proverb can be reworded in many ways but mostly by stating don't fight battles by yourself. Still being used today the proverb helps people suffering from mental illnesses. Marilyn Monroe was one who should have followed this proverb, she was depressed and saw no other way out. Reasonable suspicion was ruled about her alleged suicide case. According to the prologue, it was written "to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and prudence to the young" (1.4), and to "let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill" (1.5). It is primarily addressed to young men, as the author makes frequent references to "my son" throughout. The purpose of this book was to help prepare young men for leadership and life. A proverb, which serves the purpose of drawing a comparison between two forms of behavior to teach moral wisdom, explicitly fulfills its role in particularly chapter 9 of Proverbs. Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly not only own their own homes, but they are situated at "the highest places in the town" (9.3, 9.14). Because both women dwell at the promontories of their respective cities, they are able to look out and gain a perspective that is much broader than those who are standing on level ground. They have the advantage of being able to observe other people and what they are doing. By being able to observe others' every move, their neighbors are at their most vulnerable state without even being aware of it themselves. Lady Folly uses her advantageous location to remember the weaknesses of others that she catches and files them in her memory storage for later use. While Lady Folly uses young men's weaknesses by using them against them solely for her own gain, Lady Wisdom selflessly uses her high promontory for the benefit of others. She uses the information she learns, to teach others their mistakes and to help them in any way she can. The speaker is portraying the importance of leadership–that instead of being consumed with their own selves, the young men must also be able to pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses to help them, not to use against them. The next similarity that these women share is that they both call out to people, inviting them over to their respective houses. Lady Folly calls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Proverbs 31 provides a detailed metaphor of feminine wisdom in the context of a family and a community. A good, supportive, trusting wife is a blessing to a man. A woman who partners with her husband, who is reliable and looks out for his interests, gives a man a security that is greatly lacking in the world. She is worth more than a substantial paycheck. • 65. Thesis Statement : Proverbs Of Hell By William Blake THESIS STATEMENT: In "Proverbs of Hell," William Blake writes strongly philosophical proverbs without the orientation of religious or traditional beliefs. He challenges the popular views of society's beliefs. Often when we are bound by rules, we feel trapped and helpless. The author shows a unique angle by going against the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Blakes's proverbs are liberating and provide many separate ideas, which can be read together as a theme. Blake's style allows us the opportunity to go off conscious control and allows our thoughts to float freely thereby expressing what is on our minds. Blake believes that if we do things excessively, we will become wise and have a wealth of knowledge. In line one, "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." It implies that a goal driven persistence pays off a greater price. It compare and intersect "excess" and "wisdom" in this proverb as of excess leads to several places and would open one up to the pursuit of wisdom. In the palace of wisdom, an overflowing wealth of knowledge and understanding is found. When we think from a traditional point of view, there are few places where the road of excess leads, but wisdom is not one of them. Dreams without goals remain dreams and may lead to disappointments. In line two, "He who desires but acts not, breeds pestilence." Blake is not sugarcoating here. Goals on the road to achievement cannot be fulfilled without discipline. It just happened that this time, it so captivated and impressed me that I found myself praying it back to God on an almost daily basis after that. I desperately desired to be like this woman of noble character candidly described in Proverbs 31. Could it be that having just come out of that age and season of teenage and adolescence I had increasingly become aware of my femaleness and hence my womanhood? Could it be that I was unconsciously reaching out for an anchor by which to measure my womanhood? Was it the inner realization that I was falling far too short of God's will and expectation of me as a woman, at least from my point of view? What would it take to be the godly woman God wanted me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let me say that having done this study a number of years now with young women, and having had to check what God was also saying to me, I realized the need to put on paper the various aspects of the godly woman that God had revealed to us from His Word in a way that the young woman on campus or college, and the young single and married woman can identify with and work towards, as I said earlier, in the spirited endeavor to align her life to what God is saying; a gesture that honors the lord through obeying his word Secondly, I must say I have been a beneficiary of the writings by godly women from the west. Their books have been an immense blessing to me. I however began to realize that there didn't seem to be a book based on Proverbs 31 written in our African context addressing our realities; at least not in the way I was seeking to have these realities addressed. If the reader does as these adages tell them, he or she should be on their way to wealth. Franklin offers advice to just about anybody. Franklin tells us that in order to be frugal, we can’t waste anything. People who spend lavishly should listen to the maxim, "Silks and Satins, Scarlet and Velvets put out the Kitchen Fire". This saying reminds us that the nice, expensive things all work just as well as the generic ones. Another proverb that a person with no frugality should abide by is, "Women and Wine, Game and Deceit, Make the Wealth small, and the Wants great." This is one I can definitely relate to. Women, wine, and playing around all do put a dent in your pocket book. "Early to Bed, and Early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy, and wise", is another I can relate to. This maxim is directed to all slothful people. My constant tardiness proves my laziness and my need to abide by this one. Another similar adage is, "Plough deep, While Sluggards sleep, and you should have Corn to sell and to keep." Both of these maxims tell us that in order to get ahead, you can’t be lazy. Franklin believed that a person that listens to the sayings would avoid being poor. He wrote that poverty robs a person of their spirit and virtue. His proverb, "‘Tis hard for an empty bag to stand upright", lets us know that it is hard to function with no spirit or virtues. I would suggest reading this preface to anyone who has problems with money. The sayings still hold true in today’s society. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, there are certain books that stand out in particular; for example, Proverbs. This book is one of the greatest books in the Bible! Reason being, is it teaches and informs of Hebrew wisdom. It explains the teaching of wisdom and how it relates to a persons everyday life. The book of Proverbs really explains the fact that the key to wisdom and knowledge is fearing the Lord. Proverbs encapsulate the human experience in its universality and comprehension, and is a classic example of postexilic composition, with a lengthy history dating back to the Solomonic era. Some sayings have been attributed to the civilisation of the Sumerians in 3000 B.C. with later additions by Solomon not written down until two centuries later in the time of King Hezekiah of Judah. Other smaller collections are attributed to wise teachers and kings. Proverbs is a book largely made up of maxims or in Hebrew the mashal. The sayings within offer a key to proper conduct in the course of daily living and cover everything from table manners to sexual behaviour in setting forth the norms for a good life. It is based on the reverence for God and obedience to his laws with the "fear of the Lord" the essence of all true human wisdom. The origins of the Wisdom (personified as a woman) literature are often identified with court circles where young men were trained in the discipline and skills of royal life. Israel was not alone in this with many example of this type of wisdom on other Near Eastern culture. Not to say that that is not true, but this passage can also be read by men to give them a picture of what kind of a godly woman they should be searching for. Many of these qualities the woman possesses would be good for the man to possess too. The English word virtue is what most Bibles have translated the original word describing this woman into. But, according to Greenstone the original meaning of the word contains much more meaning. It denotes energy, capacity, and goodness (333). The first six verses, starting with verse ten, have this overall idea of her home and household and how she handles the needs of it. She is so good, that her worth is more valuable than rubies (KJV). Rubies today are expensive, so they had to be much more expensive in the days that this was written. So, basically she is priceless (v. 10).
